"Promise You"

"Hyung, I'm not here to fight with you. I just want to talk." Jungkook explained with a strained voice, clearly trying to keep his anger in check. However, Mark scoffing had let loose the tiger hidden inside the cute flower boy. "Is this about Y/n? You like her, don't you?" Silence ensued as Jungkook's grip on his collar slightly loosened.

"Well too bad, she likes me. In fact, I'll ask her out right now." Jungkook's eyes widened when Mark made attempts to go back inside the building. The risk of losing her to Mark was too great at the moment, as Jungkook fought to keep Mark in his place. "Hyung! If you already know I like her, then why are you still doing all this?" Jungkook growled as Mark shoved Jungkook back.

"Because I also like her! She likes me back, so you just can just get lost." Mark jeered as Jungkook swung at Mark's cheek and breathed heavily, not believing he attacked his sunbae (older class/work-mate) over Y/n. Mark charged forward but suddenly Y/n popped out and stood in front of Jungkook.

"Y/n, you're protecting him?" Mark asked, in disbelief and anger as he stared at Y/n holding his fist down in place. "Please don't attack him." She pleaded shakily as Mark scoffed in defeat. "Congratulations Jungkook, you win."

Y/n clearly saw the mark on him made by Jungkook yet she still chose to defend Jungkook. Clearly she loved Jungkook and not him. A hopeful smiled decorated the latter's lips, wishing that meant Y/n loved him. "You helped me instead of Mark?" He asked, in shock as her eyes widened. "Y-yeah. Don't make me regret it." She spat coldly and sauntered off, still bitter from what she saw of him and another girl.

"Y/n!" He chased after and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a back-hug, he rested his face into her hair and sighed. "Jungkook, let go! Go to your girlfriend!" She fought to get out of his arms as he stood his ground and tightened his grip.

"No! I'm sorry, Y/n." He apologized and buried his face into her hair, constantly mumbling his apologies as Y/n felt herself soften. "Even if I didn't see you with the girl this morning, I still won't feel secure with you. You're not sincere and it's hard for you to commit to one person."

She uttered with tears brimming her eyes as his heart shattered. "You have that little trust in me?" He questioned, although he knew it was all his doing. She had grown up with him, of course she knew girls can't trust him. "You're right, it's all my fault that you can't even trust me to give me a chance. You've known me for years, you know just how easily I can break a promise and...a heart. I won't bother you anymore."

Her heart painfully pounded in fragments as she stole a glance at his tear-stained cheeks. How she wanted to reach out and wipes his tears but doing so, she knew would result in her own tears shedding in the future. "Goodbye." She whispered with tears rolling down her cheeks.

Her reply made it even more certain for him that she didn't love him, that's why she was ready to let him go.

Weeks passed by and they never said a word to each other. 'Don't think about him, y/n. You never had him in the first place so you couldn't have lost him.' Her mind lectured but that couldn't stop the river of tears.

"I miss him." She uttered, before burying her face into a pillow and sobbing once again. Her sister walks into the room sighing while pulling y/n into a hug. "Oh sweetie, you need to stop crying over him." Her sister soothed and rubbed her back in circles.

While Jungkook was entertained by his 6 family-like friends. Jin and Jimin coddled him while the others chatted and joked around with him. "Come on, Kookie. You know fully well how you're like, you can't expect her to jump into your arms immediately, right?"

Jin explained as a weepy Jungkook nodded slowly. "But I don't want to lose her." Jin sighed and grabbed Jungkook his shoulders. "Then tell her that, tell her you don't want to lose her, tell her how you feel, tell her how much she means to you. But of course, just talk but no action is meaningless. You need to show her that with her, other girls will never be in your eyes for there is only her. You need to show her, you'll give up your bad habits for her. If you can do that, I'm sure she'll come running into your arms."

For days, Jungkook kept an eye out for Y/n, providing her with everything she needed and avoided all the other girls like a plague. Although for the first few days, she responded by only glaring at him or give him confused expressions towards his actions.

What really annoyed her was that his avoidance of other girls had caused them to build an aversion for her. She couldn't even work in peace without their snide remarks right behind her whenever they walk by.

Soon, he noticed a change. "Thanks." She replied with a smile when he grabbed her books out of the locker for her and walked her to class with the heavy books in his arms. And another time, he grabbed her lunch for her, she smiled and used the fork to get some food before bringing it to his mouth.

"What are you doing?" He questioned softly as she chuckled. "Giving you some food to repay you for saving me the wait in such a long line." She answered and fed him the moment he opened his mouth. Later on, she used the same fork to eat as he stared in amazement. 'She didn't mind that my lips had been on there.'

"Why do you keep staring at me?" She asked with a laugh in her voice as he smiled brightly. "Because you're beautiful." She blushed and turned away as he grabbed both of her hands.

"Y/n, I promise you I'll do whatever I can to make sure you feel secure with me, to make sure you always know what's going on in my mind, and to make sure you know how much I love you. Okay?" He promised as she grabbed on to his arms, his piercing stare and warm words made her knees weak as she leaned against him.

Before he knew it, she planted a swift kiss on his lips. "I love you too, coconut head." She teased as he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her in for a sweet kiss.

"I promise you."
