Y/N-
Being back at my parents' house after so long felt warm and comforting. The moment I stepped in, memories of my childhood came rushing back—how I used to run around this very living room, the late-night talks with my mom, and the scent of my dad's cooking that filled the entire house. My parents were all smiles as they saw me, pulling me into warm hugs, and I could tell they were just as happy to have me here as I was to be home.
But as much as I was excited to be here, a part of me missed Taehyung already. His face when I told him I'd be staying here for a week kept replaying in my mind. He looked so adorably dismayed, his lips forming a slight pout. "A whole week without you? How will I sleep?" he'd asked, his brows knitted in genuine worry.
I laughed, reminding him, "Taehyung, it's just a week, and besides, you'll be busy with work."
"But who will I cuddle with? And who will remind me to eat my meals on time?" he'd teased, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "And don't even get me started on how many times I'm going to miss you just being there."
I couldn't resist how endearing he looked, so I'd hugged him tightly, feeling his arms wrap around me, warm and secure. "I'll miss you too," I'd whispered. And just before I left, he'd kissed me, slowly, as though he were storing up enough affection to last the whole week.
Here, now, as I sat with my parents, those moments replayed in my mind, bringing a smile to my lips. My mom noticed and gave me a look, one of those knowing glances she'd always give me when she suspected I was hiding something.
She leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand. "So, what's making you smile like that?"
I bit my lip, trying to hold back my grin, but it was no use. "Nothing, just... remembering Taehyung."
My dad chuckled, setting down his mug of tea. "Ah, young love. I remember when your mom would come to visit her parents, and I'd feel the exact same way. You'd think a week was a year with the way I'd count the days," he said with a laugh, glancing over at my mom, who rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her own smile.
I laughed too, feeling a little bashful. "He was so cute about it, Dad. He acted like I was going away for months! And he kept saying he'd miss our late-night talks."
"Sounds like he's smitten," my mom said, her voice gentle but full of affection.
I nodded, feeling a surge of warmth. "He really is, Mom. And... it's the little things he does, you know? I never thought someone would make me feel this way." I hesitated, thinking about how much he'd come to mean to me. "Taehyung isn't just caring. He's thoughtful, understanding, and... he just makes me feel safe. Like I'm where I'm meant to be."
My dad gave me a soft smile, reaching over to pat my hand. "I'm glad you're with someone like him, sweetheart. Every time I see you two together, I can see how much he cares for you. That's what I always wanted for you."
My mom nodded in agreement, her eyes misty with pride. "And you seem so happy, Y/n. There's a glow about you that I haven't seen before. Taehyung's clearly taking good care of you, but you're also taking good care of each other, and that's beautiful to see."
I couldn't help but blush. "Yeah, he really does look out for me, even when I don't ask him to."
My dad gave a small nod, folding his arms thoughtfully. "That's how you know it's real, Y/N. Love isn't about grand gestures or fancy words. It's about the little things, the things you might not notice at first, but then you realize you can't imagine your life without them. The way he remembers what you like, or how he's always there when you need him."
I nodded, feeling the truth in my dad's words. Taehyung had always been there, quietly understanding and respectful, never pushing me but always showing me he cared in his own ways. It was like he understood me without words, and every little thing he did made me feel valued.
My mom looked at me, her face soft. "So, tell us, what's your favorite thing about Taehyung?"
I thought for a moment, smiling as memories of him filled my mind. "It's hard to pick just one thing," I admitted. "But I think it's the way he listens. He never tries to fix things or tell me what I should do; he just listens, really listens. And when he does speak, he says things that... I don't know, they just make me feel better. It's like he knows exactly what I need to hear."
My dad nodded thoughtfully. "That's important. A good partner listens. It's clear that Taehyung really sees you, Y/N. And you're lucky to have found someone who makes you feel that way."
I felt a swell of gratitude. "I really am. Taehyung's... he's everything I didn't know I needed."
My mom smiled knowingly. "And look at you now, talking about him like he's your whole world."
I laughed, realizing how deeply I felt about Taehyung. Somewhere along the way, he'd become not just my partner but my friend, my confidant, and my greatest comfort.
After our conversation, my mom led me to the kitchen, talking excitedly about making all my favorite dishes. As we cooked, I thought about how lucky I was to have this love in my life and the support of my family. My parents' encouragement filled me with even more certainty about Taehyung and everything we shared.
Later that night, as I sat in my old room, a message popped up on my phone. It was Taehyung:
"Missing you. Can't wait to have you back home. 😊"
My heart swelled, and I felt a familiar warmth spread through me. I typed back:
"Miss you too. Only a few more days! Hope you're taking care of yourself."
A second later, he replied:
"Only because you made me promise. 😅 Have fun with your parents, Y/n. Just know I'll be counting the days."
I couldn't help but smile, feeling a thrill at how close we'd become. This was more than just affection; it was a love that I hadn't seen coming but now couldn't imagine my life without. As I put my phone down and drifted off to sleep, I realized just how deeply I cared for him, and how lucky I was to have him by my side, in this life, and in all the little moments in between.
TAEHYUNG-
I glanced at the clock; it was late, but the quiet house felt heavier tonight. It was the fourth day since Y/n had left to visit her parents, and I'd never realized just how loud the silence could be until now. Before we got married, I used to enjoy the stillness after a long day at work, but now, everything felt hollow, like something was missing. Or rather, someone.
The empty bed was what got to me the most. Without Y/n here, I found myself rolling over instinctively, reaching out for her warmth, only to be met by an empty spot. I couldn't believe how quickly I'd gotten used to her presence, her laughter, the little conversations we'd have late at night, even her soft snores when she was really exhausted. I missed everything.
Lost in these thoughts, my phone buzzed, breaking the silence. It was a message from Y/n. The screen lit up with her name and a simple message: "Missing you ❤️." My heart warmed instantly, and without a second thought, I hit the call button.
She picked up after a couple of rings, and hearing her soft, familiar voice was like a balm to my lonely night.
"Hey," she greeted me, and I could hear the smile in her voice.
"Hey, yourself," I replied, trying to keep my tone light, but she could probably hear the relief in my voice.
She laughed softly. "So, did you miss me?" she teased.
"Is that even a question?" I replied with a chuckle. "Of course, I missed you. The house feels like a completely different place without you, Y/n. And by different, I mean lifeless."
"Oh, come on," she said, her voice full of warmth. "I've only been gone four days."
"Four days too long," I murmured, a bit more honestly than I'd planned.
She giggled, and the sound made me smile. "Taehyung, you're so dramatic."
"Maybe, but only when it comes to you." I leaned back against the headboard, settling in as though she were here with me. "Honestly, though, I didn't think it'd feel this... empty without you around. I keep looking over, thinking I'll find you somewhere in the house."
There was a brief pause on the other end. "You really mean that?" she asked softly.
"Of course," I said without hesitation. "I think you're the one who turned this house into a home, Y/n."
She didn't reply right away, and I could picture her on the other side, probably blushing a little. Finally, she said, "You're making me miss you even more."
I grinned, feeling my heart swell. "Good. Then maybe you'll come back sooner."
"Oh, you'd like that, wouldn't you?" she teased, a playful tone returning to her voice.
"You have no idea. I don't even sleep properly without you here. Do you know how many times I've rolled over expecting you to be there?"
"Aww," she cooed, laughing softly. "Who knew Taehyung was such a softie?"
"Only for you," I replied, letting the words hang in the air. "But seriously, what are you up to? Are you having a good time with your parents?"
"Yeah, I am," she said. "But... it's strange. I love being here, but it doesn't feel the same anymore. It's like... a part of me is missing."
I felt my chest tighten. "Is it weird that I'm glad to hear that?"
She laughed. "Not weird at all. And don't worry, I'll be back soon enough. I think my parents are even starting to notice how much I talk about you."
I grinned, feeling a sense of pride. "Oh, yeah? What do you say about me?"
"Nothing too mushy, don't worry," she replied, feigning a casual tone. "Just... the truth. That you're sweet, and thoughtful, and that you're someone who's always there for me."
I didn't even try to hide the smile in my voice. "Is that all? No mention of how handsome and charming I am?"
"Oh, please, do you really need the ego boost?" she teased, but I could hear the affection behind her words.
"Well, maybe just a little," I joked. "I don't have anyone else here to shower me with compliments, you know."
She laughed again, her voice like music to my ears. "Fine. Yes, Taehyung, you're incredibly handsome and very charming. Happy?"
"Very," I said, my tone warm. "But, really, how are things going over there? Are you getting enough rest?"
"Yes, yes, I am," she assured me. "Mom's been spoiling me, of course, making all my favorite dishes. And Dad keeps asking about you, you know. I think he misses his 'new son' just as much as I miss you."
I chuckled, touched. "Well, tell him I miss him too. And your mom, of course. I hope they're treating you like the queen you are."
"Oh, they are," she replied. "But it's not the same as having you around, Taehyung."
I let her words settle, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. "I'm glad to hear that," I replied softly. "I never thought I'd feel this way, Y/n. I mean, it's only a week, but it feels so much longer."
"I know," she whispered, her voice gentle. "I feel the same."
There was a comfortable silence, the kind where words weren't necessary because we both knew how the other felt. It was moments like these that reminded me of how lucky I was to have her in my life, to share this journey together.
Finally, she broke the silence. "Taehyung?"
"Yeah?"
"When I come back, let's go somewhere together, just the two of us. Maybe a weekend getaway?"
I smiled, the idea already making me feel lighter. "I'd love that. Anywhere you want to go."
"Great," she replied, sounding as excited as I felt. "And while I'm here, I'll start planning. I want it to be something special, something memorable."
"Every moment with you is special," I said, meaning every word.
Her laugh was soft, almost shy. "You really are something else, Taehyung."
"Just telling the truth," I replied. "But alright, enough mushy stuff. When are you coming back?"
"Three more days," she said, sighing a little. "Not too long, I promise."
"Alright," I agreed reluctantly, "but I'll be counting every hour."
"Me too," she replied softly.
We chatted a little longer, about small things—how her mom's been making all her favorite dishes, and how her dad kept bringing up memories of when she was little. It felt like I was there with her, sharing in her happiness and her memories, even from a distance.
Finally, when we said our goodbyes, I lay back on the bed, my heart a little lighter. Three more days. That didn't seem so bad, not anymore. And as I drifted off to sleep, I thought about everything we'd shared and everything we were yet to experience. I was a lucky man and I knew it.
Y/N-
After I hung up with Taehyung, a smile lingered on my lips as I thought about our conversation. But as I set my phone down, I remembered my talk with Tzuyu when she came over to visit me a few days ago. She had brought up something I hadn't been able to shake from my mind since.
We were sitting in my room, sipping on tea, when she gave me that knowing look—the one she always had when she was about to say something outrageous.
"So," she began, leaning in with a grin. "Have you and Taehyung... you know," she wiggled her eyebrows, "taken the next step yet?"
My cheeks burned instantly, and I couldn't help but stammer. "T-Tzuyu! Why would you ask me that?"
She rolled her eyes, giving me an exasperated look. "Because it's been ages since you two got married! I mean, seriously, Y/n. You two look so close, so in love—"
"Wait, wait," I interrupted, waving my hands. "We've only... hugged and kissed. And that's it. Nothing... beyond that."
Her mouth dropped open, and her eyes grew wide. "What? Only hugs and kisses? But... I mean, Y/n, you two seem so close!" She paused, and I could see the wheels turning in her mind. "Wait, you haven't even told him you love him yet, have you?"
I lowered my gaze, feeling a little embarrassed. "No, I haven't."
"What?!" She practically shouted, looking at me as if I had just said something completely ridiculous. "Yah, Y/n, it's been so long since you guys got married. What on earth are you waiting for?"
"It's... complicated," I mumbled, playing with the hem of my shirt. "I mean, I feel it—I know I love him. It's just, confessing it out loud feels... nerve-wracking."
She sighed dramatically, crossing her arms and giving me a look that clearly said she wasn't buying my excuse. "Y/n, he's your husband. And if you love him, you shouldn't keep it to yourself. You've come this far already; what's holding you back?"
"It's just..." I paused, searching for the right words. "Taehyung's been so patient with me. He's never pressured me for anything. It's like he's waiting for me to be ready, and I appreciate that so much. I just want everything to be perfect when I finally do tell him."
Tzuyu groaned, clearly unimpressed with my response. "You're being too careful. Sometimes, you just have to take the leap. He's already shown you how much he cares for you—do you really think he needs perfection in a confession?"
I shook my head, feeling a little silly. "No, I guess not. But it's still hard to get the words out."
She put her hand on my shoulder, squeezing it gently. "Y/n, I get it—you've been through a lot before, and you're probably overthinking this. But if you really love him, he deserves to know. You deserve to feel the happiness that comes with saying it out loud, you know?"
I nodded, sighing softly as I mulled over her words. "You're right. I just... need a little push, I guess."
Tzuyu grinned, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Well, what are best friends for if not to give you that push? Next time you're with him, don't think too much. Just go with what you feel in the moment."
I smiled, her words making me feel a little more confident. "Thanks, Tzuyu. I really needed to hear that."
"Anytime," she said, nudging me playfully. "And if I find out you didn't say it by next week, I'll come over and force you to confess!"
We both laughed, and in that moment, I felt a weight lift. I knew Tzuyu was right; I couldn't keep holding back. The next time I saw Taehyung, I'd find the courage to tell him what I'd been feeling all along.
My heart felt lighter just thinking about it, and as I lay down that night, I imagined his reaction, the warmth of his smile, and the joy that would come with finally saying those words.
