Y/N-
I felt a little hesitant as I stepped into Taehyung's house. His grandfather greeted me warmly, making me feel welcome, as always. I had come to drop off a file Taehyung needed urgently. As I explained my purpose, his grandfather smiled knowingly.
"He's up in his room, dear. Just go on up and hand it to him yourself," he said, waving me forward.
I felt a bit unsure. "Are you sure, sir? I could wait until he comes down."
"Nonsense! He'll be thrilled to see you," his grandfather replied, a twinkle in his eye. "Go on. He trusts you."
I nodded, trying to push down my nerves, and made my way upstairs. I knocked lightly on his door but got no answer. The door was slightly ajar, so I hesitated before stepping in, not wanting to intrude. His room was exactly what I expected—minimalistic and organized, with everything in its place.
Just as I was about to leave, I heard the soft rush of water from the bathroom, realizing that he was probably finishing up in the shower. My cheeks flushed slightly as I fidgeted with the file in my hands, feeling more like an intruder than ever. I wasn't sure what to do, so I decided to stand by his bed, close to the door.
A soft click sounded as the bathroom door opened, and there Taehyung stood, his dark hair still wet, small droplets falling onto his shoulders as he stepped out. He was in a simple white shirt, unbuttoned slightly, and casual lounge pants, the look unexpectedly disarming in its simplicity. His eyes widened when he saw me standing there, and I felt a similar sense of shock pass between us.
"Oh! Y/n..." he managed, his voice a mix of surprise and something else I couldn't place. "I... didn't know you were here."
I held up the file, my hands trembling slightly. "Your grandfather said you needed this file... urgently. I... I'm sorry, I should have waited downstairs."
He chuckled softly, brushing back his damp hair, looking more like he'd just stepped out of a daydream than the professional Taehyung I knew. "No, no. It's okay. Thank you for bringing it up. I did need it."
As he walked toward me, he reached out for the file, but our hands brushed unexpectedly, sending a jolt through me. My fingers faltered, and in my attempt to steady the file, I tripped forward. Just as I started to lose my balance, his arms reached out instinctively, catching me before I fell.
Time seemed to slow as I looked up, finding myself in his steady embrace, my face inches from his chest. His warm hand rested on my back, holding me close, and I could feel his heartbeat quicken, mirroring my own. His gaze softened as he looked down, and for a brief moment, neither of us moved.
I felt heat rise to my cheeks as I realized how close we were, my mind racing with a flurry of emotions I didn't dare to name. Just when I thought I'd managed to compose myself, his hand gently moved to my arm, steadying me further.
"Are you alright?" he asked, his voice a low murmur that sent a shiver down my spine.
I swallowed, nodding. "Y-yes. I'm fine. I'm so clumsy, I—"
His lips curved into a small smile, softening his usual serious expression. "You're not clumsy. It was just an accident."
But neither of us moved. There was something about the way he looked at me in that moment that made my heart race even faster. It was as if he was seeing me differently, and I couldn't help but feel the shift between us, subtle but undeniable.
"Thank you... for catching me," I murmured, still flustered.
He chuckled softly, his voice almost a whisper. "Anytime, Y/n."
A hint of something unfamiliar flickered in his gaze, and as he gently let go, I felt the warmth of his hands linger. I took a small step back, still feeling breathless, trying to steady my heartbeat as I finally managed to pass him the file.
"This is... for you. Like I said, I didn't mean to intrude," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Thank you," he replied, his tone softened by the unexpected intimacy of the moment.
I took a breath, glancing down at the floor to avoid his gaze, yet the image of him standing there—hair still damp, a gentle smile on his face—was imprinted in my mind.
"Well... I'll let you get back to your work," I said, feeling my cheeks warm again as I turned toward the door.
But as I reached for the handle, I felt his hand gently rest on my shoulder, stopping me. Surprised, I looked back at him, my heart hammering in my chest.
"Y/n," he started, his voice softer than I'd ever heard. "You know... if you ever need anything, I'm here."
My gaze met his, and in that moment, I felt the weight of something unspoken between us. A feeling that neither of us had acknowledged yet seemed to fill the space around us. I nodded, managing a small, shaky smile.
"Thank you, Taehyung. That... means a lot."
He let his hand fall, stepping back with a faint smile of his own. And as I walked out, I felt the remnants of his warmth still surrounding me, his words lingering in my mind, filling me with a mix of confusion and hope I couldn't ignore.
TAEHYUNG-
The day had been the usual blur of meetings and reports, but my focus was off. Maybe it was because lately, my mind would drift back to Y/n, especially now that we were working together more closely. I tried not to read too much into it, but there was something undeniable about her presence that lingered with me long after we'd spoken or shared a passing glance.
It was late evening by the time I made it back home, feeling a rare sense of relaxation sink in. As I stepped out of my room after a quick shower, still toweling my damp hair, I was completely unprepared to see Y/n standing there, clutching a file.
Her wide eyes met mine, just as surprised, and a stunned silence filled the room. She looked startled, cheeks flushed as if caught in a moment she wasn't expecting. I hadn't been expecting her either, and seeing her in my space like this—an unexpected softness surrounding her—caught me completely off guard.
"Oh! Y/n..." I stammered, trying to regain my composure. "I... didn't know you were here."
She held up the file in her hands, eyes a little unsure as she explained. "Your grandfather said you needed this file... urgently. I... I'm sorry, I should have waited downstairs."
I managed a small chuckle, trying to ease the awkwardness. "No, no. It's okay. Thank you for bringing it up. I did need it."
I stepped forward to take the file from her, but as our hands touched, something happened. A warmth spread from the simple contact, a jolt that seemed to connect us in a way I wasn't expecting. I looked at her, and she looked back, her expression unreadable, but her face suddenly softened in a way that made my heart skip a beat.
In that tiny moment, Y/n's balance wavered, and I instinctively reached out, catching her before she could fall. My hands found her waist as she gripped onto me, her face inches from my chest, our breaths mixing in the small, charged space between us. I could feel her pulse racing beneath my fingers, mirroring my own heartbeat, and my focus narrowed to just the feeling of her against me, delicate and warm.
"Are you alright?" I asked, my voice lower than I intended, a soft whisper.
She nodded, still flustered. "Y-yes. I'm fine. I'm so clumsy, I—"
I smiled gently, shaking my head. "You're not clumsy. It was just an accident."
But I couldn't bring myself to let go, not right away. There was something magnetic about her that made it hard to look away, hard to ignore the way she felt against me, so close yet so distant. I realized, in that brief, unguarded moment, that these feelings I'd been trying to ignore had only deepened over time, and now here she was, right in front of me, in my arms.
"Thank you... for catching me," she murmured, her voice barely audible, and I could tell she was just as shaken as I was.
I nodded, releasing her slowly, but I couldn't help the lingering glance I gave her, memorizing the look on her face. "Anytime, Y/n."
She finally handed me the file, but I could tell she was still unsettled, maybe even avoiding my gaze. There was an undeniable awkwardness between us now, and I wondered if she felt it too or if it was just me struggling to keep my composure around her.
"This is... for you. Like I said, I didn't mean to intrude," she said softly.
"No, really. I appreciate it. Thank you." I took the file, but the words felt empty in comparison to the emotions coursing through me.
She glanced away, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush that she tried to hide, and turned to leave. But a strange impulse overtook me, and before I could stop myself, I reached out, resting a hand on her shoulder.
"Y/n." My voice was softer than usual, and I knew it conveyed more than I intended. She turned to look at me, her eyes wide, searching mine for some explanation, but I could barely speak.
"I just... I just wanted you to know that... if you ever need anything, I'm here," I managed, surprised at my own sincerity. It felt like a quiet promise, one I didn't know if I could keep but meant every word of.
Her eyes softened, and she nodded, a small, tremulous smile on her lips. "Thank you, Taehyung. That... means a lot."
As she finally left, the silence in my room felt louder than ever, and I realized I had been holding my breath. She had a way of affecting me that was new, unsettling, and yet I couldn't deny the warmth it brought.
Standing there alone, I realized that I couldn't keep pushing these feelings down anymore.
