9 - Mission: Make Eunji Happy Again

Day 2

Eunji's eyes fluttered open, the sunlight seeping through the large windows of the master bedroom seeming way too bright for the new bride who just felt like curling up into a ball and hibernating for the rest of her days.

It was day two of her marriage, and the new beginning that she thought she was having was already going in a direction that she hadn't planned.

With the little amount of energy within her, she groaned, turning her body to face the other side of the bed where her husband slept next to her.

Supposed to be sleeping, at least.

It was nearing eight am and her husband's side of the bed remained empty with the sheets visibly used overnight.

Jungkook was already awake before her?

That didn't seem right as the workaholic himself usually woke up later in the day to get to work at eleven since he wasn't at all a morning person, unlike her.

The jerk probably went to work

Eunji rolled her eyes, pulling the covers over her head before stopping.

Wait.

The soft smell of food was just being registered by the half asleep bride, making her sit up moments later wide awake.

Was that what she thought it was?

Eunji pushed off her blanket and got up from bed, rushing to her bedroom door before creaking it open and taking another whiff.

It's exactly what she thought it was.

Without even thinking, she was rushing down the stairs and turning the corner to the kitchen before coming to a halt and meeting chocolate orbs that had widened at her sudden arrival mid flip of the fluffy dough that soon found its way onto the floor.

Husband and wife both stared at the sad pancake that had met its fate on the kitchen's tile floors.

Putting the pan aside, Jungkook sighed, reaching for a paper towel and picking up the pancake to throw it out as Eunji remained still.

"Good morning." he finally broke the silence, turning back to his wife to see that she hadn't moved an inch.

Eunji blinked, looking at him and then to the fresh pile of pancakes that sat on the table.

Clearing her throat, she tilted her head up and crossed her arms over her chest.

"Good morning." she said with a tad bit of attitude, indicating that she was still upset over the conversation they had the previous night. "You made pancakes?" she asked as Jungkook nodded, now pouring some of the liquid dough onto the flat pan.

Making her favourite breakfast treat while she's upset with him?

Sus.

Real sus.

"Don't look at me like that." Jungkook sighed, catching Eunji off guard as she was squinting at him suspiciously.

"I'm not doing anything." she replied. "Isn't it a bit early for you to be up right now?"

Jungkook just shrugged as he platted another pancake.

Her husband not being able to sleep while she's upset with him, and proceeding to make her favourite breakfast?

Really really sus.

"You're still looking at me weird." he spoke, flipping a pancake making Eunji frown.

"I am not." she fired back, getting a sigh in response.

"Do you want to eat or not-?"

"Yes." Eunji was quick to reply, later clearing her throat and shuffling her feet. "I guess I will since you were so gracious to make some food so early in the morning."

Eunji rounded around the island, taking a seat on a high chair as Jungkook reached out from one of the cabinets to grab a pair of plates for the both of them.

"Well, you made breakfast yesterday, and I thought it was only fair." he spoke, handing her a pair of forks and knives as well.

"I didn't know you could cook." She was tilting her head now, suspiciously looking at him.

He leaned onto the island, resting his elbows, also tilting his head.

"How do you think I survived 10 years living alone?"

Okay fine, that was a valid argument. But there was a difference between cooking and cooking.

Jungkook seemed to be capable of cooking when she always thought he ordered out instead.

Which was great, that meant she could make him cook instead of doing it herself all the time.

"You're thinking too much about it." Jungkook spoke, turning back to the stove to check on the pancakes as Eunji blinked back, noticing that she had zoned out moments ago.

"Eat your pancakes before they get cold." He added another pancake to their pile.

Without another word, the bride grabbed the strawberry jam that her husband had previously taken out, and spread it across her pancakes, later cutting into it and munching happily.

Okay, so he could cook cook.

"Well?" Jungkook tilted his head, leaning back on the island once more while waiting for her reaction, and noticing the way that her brows met in the middle giving off an angry look.

"This is so-" Eunji cleared her throat after the outburst, immediately neutralising her reaction "It's okay."

Jungkook's brow rose.

"Okay?" he asked.

Eunji shrugged, cutting into the pancake once again to munch on a new piece.

"Yeah, it's okay. I could make it better, but thanks anyways."

No she couldn't. Cause it was as if the pancakes themselves had flown down from heaven with little wings made of maple syrup and strawberry halos.

How could you make a better pancake when these tasted like God made them himself?

But she would never let Jungkook know that. He didn't have to know the minor details.

"Well then," Jungkook turned to put away the used pans and bowl once filled with dough, then took a seat next to his wife who once again looked angry while munching on the pancakes aggressively. They ate in silence, nothing but the sound of the air conditioner and chirping of birds outside making it to their ears.

Normally silence was perfectly fine for Jungkook. In fact it was what he preferred to have most of the time, but at that moment the silence was way too loud, partially due to the things that he had been wanting to say eating him up inside.

The previous night left him feeling guilty, which he hated over everything. It left him awake and wondering how he could make up for his actions, part of the plan he came up with being to wake up early and make Eunji's favourite choice of breakfast.

So far it seemed like a failure because his wife was still giving him the cold shoulder.

Therefore, plan B had to come in.

Jungkook cleared his throat once swallowing his food.

"Eunji?"

She hummed in response, bringing another piece of pancake to her lips without sparing him a glance.

Oh God, why was this so hard.

He was chewing on his inner cheek now, mentally screaming at himself to just let it out and get it over with already.

He was hoping that she was way too immersed into the food to give much attention to what he was about to say.

His eyes squeezed shut for a moment.

"Would you like to go out with me tonight?"

A weight was lifted off of his chest the moment the words had left his lips, but his moment of relief was cut short as he noticed the series of coughs coming from his wife.

His eyes widened.

This was not the time to die on him.

Jungkook was quick to jump to his feet grabbing a glass and filling it with water from the fridge to hand it to her and pat her back.

After a few more coughs and gulps of water in between, Eunji let out a last gasp for air before sighing and easing back into her chair.

She looked up at her husband who stood next to her.

"Did you just ask me out on a date?" she asked and Jungkook slowly nodded.

Eunji bit back her smile.

"And why should I accept?"

Her husband's brows furrowed at her comment, watching as she gave him a neutral stare, almost as if she didn't care.

"Isn't that what you wanted?"

"It was what I wanted. But, why should I accept a date with someone who doesn't want to spend time with me?"

Jungkook let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand over his face.

It had been two days, and this woman was already driving him crazy.

Seeing as plan B was a failure, that meant he was left with nothing but plan C.

"I'm sorry."

Eunji's head snapped up to look at him in surprise.

Jeon Jungkook apologising? Was she dreaming?

Letting out another breath, he gazed down at her.

"I should have been more considerate of your feelings and set the day aside to spend it with you. So to make up for it, I've decided to stay home today and bring you out on a date, if you would like to join me of course."

Eunji couldn't hide her smile this time, her lips curving up as she chewed on her bottom lip.

"Since you were so kind to ask, yes, I'll go on a date with you."

Letting out a breath of relief, Jungkook internally celebrated.

Mission, making Eunji happy again, was a success.
