8 - Go Home, Kook

Day 1

"What the hell are you doing here?"

Jungkook looked up from the files that he was going through, interrupted by his large wooden door being swung open and a tall figure walking in without even bothering to ask.

As annoying as it was, he had no choice but to get used to it.

"Hello to you too, hyung." Jungkook muttered, glancing back down at the paperwork in front of him. "I'm here to work."

"The day after your wedding?" Namjoon exclaimed, holding his hands on his hips while staring down at the younger who sat behind his glass desk, the windows behind him displaying a beautiful view of the city. Being the current CEO of Jeon Corp., a famous company which owned several successful video games and apps meant having an office with a great view of the city down below.

It also meant slightly being a workaholic.

Knowing what was coming with the voice of his work partner, Jungkook groaned and leaned back into his seat.

"What's so wrong about that? Eunji told me the same thing."

"Cause she's fucking right, dumbass!"

Jungkook scoffed and Namjoon took a seat across from him without bothering to ask.

"You're supposed to be spending your first few days together. It's literally your time off to bond and be happy, and act as if love is in the air while you have nothing to worry about."

"That's not how life is." the Ceo tried defending himself, with his arms crossed over his broad chest.

"I don't fucking care, you're supposed to act like it." Namjoon snapped, glaring at him now, almost as if he had committed the biggest crime possible. And all he had done was go to work like any other day. What was wrong with that!

Jungkook sighed, rubbing the side of his temple.

"Why does my marriage life concern you so much?" He asked, slipping his glasses off and clasping his hands on the table.

Namjoon grew comfortable in his chair.

"Because at this rate you're gonna be dumped within a month. You've already screwed up within the first 24h of your relationship."

The younger rolled his eyes at the over exaggeration of his friend.

"And how do you know that?"

"Dude, you're literally at work the day after your wedding! Even after your wife told you the same thing!"

"That doesn't mean I'm a crappy husband." He squinted his eyes this time.

"Nope, just that you're a workaholic who would rather spend his time at work than with his wife."

"Oh and you're the best ever husband, aren't you?"

A confident grin spread across his work partner's lips.

"I am, in fact."

"Bullshit. You were complaining about Hyunji two days ago."

Namjoon's smile fell.

"That's not the same thing."

Jungkook scoffed at him, annoyed by the scolding he was getting. He was a grown ass man now, and people shouldn't be telling him what to do.

"I'll call your dad."

The threat caused Jungkook's brow to rise and eyes slightly widen as the elder snickered.

"You wouldn't want him to know that you're here right now, would you?"

He didn't. Cause that would mean he would have to sit through a long lecture that he couldn't care less about, wasting his time when he could be doing something so much more important.

He sighed.

"I just wanted to come okay? Eunji is going on about this challenge and stupid task, and I just didn't want to listen to her nag me all day about it."

Namjoon perked up, tilting his head.

"Challenge?" He asked.

"She wants us to complete these small tasks together everyday, so that we can bond. I'm supposed to ask her out on a date today."

His partner's face softened, a smile spreading across his face.

"Aw, that's so cute!"

"It's not cute, it's unnecessary. If she wants to go eat out then we can just go eat out." Jungkook spoke, fixing his files and setting them aside. Clearly he wasn't going to be getting any work done.

Namjoon's forehead only creased at his friend's response.

"You're kidding right?"

"No." Jungkook deadpanned, staring blankly at him. His partner groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"She wants to establish a healthy and mature relationship with you, and you're telling me that you think that's stupid?"

"That's not what I meant."

"Yes it is, Jungkook. She's trying to put in the effort to bring you both closer together emotionally, cause that is just so important in marriage. And you just rejected her."

Namjoon sighed.

Jungkook truly was a lost cause.

"How do you think that you're supposed to have kids one day if you're not emotionally connected?"

His partner sitting behind the desk blinked back at him as Namjoon's eyes widened.

"Surely you've thought of the fact that you might have kids one day?!"

Jungkook looked away and scratched his nape for a moment.

"I have, just not thought too much about it."

"You're telling me that you haven't considered having sex?" Namjoon was flabbergasted. How thick of a skull did his partner have? These were important things to consider when getting married.

"That's not the same thing!" Jungkook fired back. "Having kids and sex aren't the same thing. Plus, that's not important right now. We're friends."

"For heaven's sake Jungkook, your wife is not your friend! And you can't keep acting like she is. The moment you took that vow, you've established that you'll be more than friends to each other. If you wanted to stay friends then you should've never agreed to get married."

Namjoon took a breath in before letting out a sigh and massaging his temple. He felt like he had lost a few brain cells since the moment he walked in.

"My advice for you is to just ask her out and bring her somewhere nice. I'm not saying you have to fall in love with her, but show her that you care and that she matters to you, okay?"

Jungkook pursed his lips, staring down at the desk as he heard his hyung stand from his spot across from him.

"I have some work to get done. Just go home Kook, and maybe give your relationship some more thought. It'll be good for you."

Without another word, Namjoon walked away and slipped out into the corridor, leaving his partner alone with his thoughts.

°•°•°•°

Jungkook didn't go home as he was told to. As guilty as Namjoon made him feel earlier that day, his stubborn side refused to give in so easily. He still didn't believe he had done anything wrong since they had no special plans, such as a honeymoon. Neither was he in love with his wife to spend the few days home with her while acting like "love was in the air".

Which just sounded like adults wanting to avoid their responsibilities to him.

Nothingless, he did allow himself to turn over the advice that the elder had given him in his mind in between his breaks at work, and consider his options.

Allowing for the front door's lock to click open when he twisted his key, Jungkook walked in, slipping off his shoes and hanging his keys.

It was nearing 7pm now and the house felt silent.

Walking deeper into his new home, Jungkook noticed a head poking out from the living room as Eunji had sat up from the couch to see if he was home.

"Oh, hi." She greeted him.

"Hey."

He watched her stand up and walk towards him where he stood in the space between the kitchen and living room.

"You didn't really tell me when you'd be home, and I didn't know what to make, so I was thinking we should just order something instead."

"Sure." he nodded, walking past her to place his briefcase onto the table nearby. He watched her take out her phone and open an app to order.

"What are you feeling?" She asked, scrolling through the different restaurants while making her way to the high chairs around the kitchen island.

"Anything is fine." He answered, noticing the grey sweatpants she wore.

He silently smirked for a moment.

She had changed out of her leggings from that morning.

"Okay, well I'm kinda craving japchae. Is that okay?" She asked.

"I'll have whatever you order."

Nodding in response, she completed their order and sent it off, placing her phone on the table.

"How was work?"

"Okay." he shrugged, taking off his suit jacket and placing it over his arm.

A silence fell between them.

"I'm going to go change, I should be back before the food arrives." Jungkook finally spoke, taking his briefcase and giving her a quick glance. Eunji just nodded and picked up her phone to keep herself busy.

"So, what did you do while I was gone?" Jungkook interrupted the silence among them as they sat at the kitchen island, both with a box of noodles of their own and tteokbokki that they shared. Eunji just shrugged as she slurped some noodles, later replying.

"Just watched some shows and figured out how the washing machines work. Nothing much."

Her voice didn't seem as lively as it usually was. It looked like she had something on her mind as she often avoided his gaze since the moment he got home. Not that they were extremely close, but he could often tell if there was something bothering her. Either he was just a great observer, or she just made it too obvious.

He liked to believe it was the first option.

"Eunji?"

She hummed in response, reaching for a rice cake as a few strands of hair fell out of her loosely done low bun.

"Is there something wrong?"

She finally glanced at him.

"No, I'm just feeling tired." she answered, bringing the rice cake to her lips right after and staring down at her noodle bowl.

"From watching t.v?" he asked, raising a brow and allowing for his seat to twist and face her instead. She continued to avoid his gaze.

"Probably from yesterday, you know walking around with the dress while in heels and everything-"

Jungkook sighed, cutting her off.

"What happened to open communication? I know there's something bothering you."

She looked up at him for a moment, her bottom lip caught between her teeth as she chewed on it. She didn't say anything, choosing to stare down at her food and allowed for the silence to surround them.

She was now breaking her own rule.

"Eunji?" Jungkook kept his voice calm as he called out her name, waiting for her to spill what was going through her head.

Pursing her lips for a moment, she finally spoke.

"You didn't have to go to work today, did you?" she muttered, her chopsticks playing with her noodles.

Jungkook raised his brow, clearly confused. Eunji sighed, continuing.

"I called your secretary today to ask when you would be back, in case you were busy or something. She told me she didn't know because you weren't even supposed to come."

He moved his gaze away from her.

"I mentioned that she had called you, and that's why I thought you left, but she told me that she just asked you a question about transferring some of the work to Namjoon while you're away."

Eunji paused for a moment, taking in a shaky breath.

"Do you really hate spending time with me that much?" her voice wavered while she continued to avoid his strong gaze on her.

She hadn't thought much about him leaving earlier in the morning, because she knew how hectic his job was. But once finding out that he left out of choice and pretty much lied to her, it had her slumping in front of the washing machines, contemplating everything.

If he was like this the first day of their marriage, who knows what else could happen.

Maybe she just wasn't meant to be loved. Maybe this marriage wasn't a good idea.

Jungkook's eyes softened once hearing the hurt in her voice. He didn't realize that his actions could lead to her being so upset about it, but then again, she wasn't supposed to find out either.

"I don't hate spending time with you." he answered, Eunji still looking away. "It's just hard for me to let go of work."

"I wasn't asking for much, Jungkook. Just one day." Her arms wrapped around her torso, making her seem smaller with her brows meeting in the center. "And everything was covered for you anyways, you didn't have a reason to be concerned about it."

Now the guilt was really starting to weigh down on him.

"I'm sorry if I sound childish, but I really want this to work. But from what I can tell, you don't really care, and that upsets me." She shut her eyes for a moment, swallowing. "I'm not saying don't go to work, I just wanted a small piece of your time so we can work things out. But if you don't want to, that's fine."

Without another word, Jungkook watched her stand and place her box of remaining noodles in the fridge. She shuffled around the island, making her way towards the staircase.

"I'm going to bed, good night."

He remained mum as he watched her climb the stairs.

Damn, he really had messed up.

Slouching in his seat, he let out a sigh and let his hand run through his hair.

He had to find a way to make her feel better or she would be down for days, which would only guilt trip him more. And he hated feeling guilty, because then it made him feel like he did something wrong. And Jeon Jungkook hated being wrong.

Plus, Yuna could potentially find out. And if she did, she would whoop his ass for making his wife and her one and only sister-in-law upset.

She was very much capable of doing so, and he wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

Huffing, Jungkook stared down at the food in front of him.

He suddenly lost his appetite.

Forcing himself to stand, he began putting everything away, deciding on how to make up for his mistake.
