3 - Rich Mother-In-Law

DDay - 1

"These look absolutely hideous."

Eunji sucked in a breath of air as the wedding planner who she was just speaking to left to make some more minor adjustments with her team across the spacious banquet hall. Forcing a smile to her lips, Eunji turned on her heel to check on what her mother-in-law was complaining about this time.

Mrs.Jeon held a fork that was laid next to other a set of silverware and plate for a guest's designated seat for the wedding taking place the following day.

"This is what they call fine-star? I used to feed my son with these when he was a baby."

Eunji felt a presence move behind her.

"Mother, they said that this was their best silverware, remember?"

"Their best is sterling silver? I wanted fine silver at least." Mrs.Jeon harshly put the fork back into its spot and scoffed. "Bet they have it stashed somewhere here, they're just not giving it to us."

Jungkook stepped past you and towards your mother-in-law, putting an arm around her shoulder.

"It's just for one night, I don't think any of the guests will notice."

"I notice. Do they think we're poor? Do I look poor to them? She's poor," she gestured her hand towards Euji before continuing, "but I am fully capable of buying all my guests silverware made of fine silver, and not whatever this crap is. Actually, that's not a bad idea." She had turned and looked up to her son who had her identical doe eyes. "I should tell Yuna to buy some right now."

She can't be serious.

Eunji was more than ready to walk out the door and call it quits. Instead she stood across mother and son with her arms crossed over her chest while chewing the inside of her cheek.

"Mom, what are you going to do with all that silverware afterwards?" Jungkook sighed.

"Keep it just in case. I could use it for your sister's wedding. After all," she smiled and caressed her dear son's cheek "my children only get married once. It has to be the best wedding ever." Her hand fell and she threw a glare at her daughter-in-law.
"Even if it's with some useless poor bride like her."

Fixing a glare at Jungkook, Eunji received a defeated look in return. Without saying a word, she turned on her heel and decided that the large flowers decorating the tables for the guests were more interesting than her mother-in-law who hated her guts.
There was a lot she had to say, but for the sake of respect and not canceling her wedding the day before, she swallowed it all in.

She had never liked Mrs.Jeon, and the feeling was mutual. She discovered years ago that the elder had some type of mindset that anyone who didn't earn millions of dollars yearly was poor, and not worth her time.

And Eunji didn't exactly meet that criteria with her income of only a few thousand dollars monthly as a once full time nurse who was capable of living well off on her own although her parents owned their own successful company, but she had grown tired of proving that to her close-minded mother-in-law.

If she wanted to call her poor then she could go ahead, because in the end she was the one marrying Mrs.Jeon's favourite child (her dearest son) and she was probably going to be the mother of Mrs.Jeon's first grandchild.
That was enough to give Eunji the upper hand and satisfaction.

"Sis!"

Eunji diverted her attention from the delicate white roses that were part of a table's centerpiece and towards the direction of the voice.

A smile curled up along her lips as she caught sight of the twenty-four year-old rushing towards her in heels with open arms and bright round eyes that screamed excitement more than her brother himself.

And he was the groom.

Eunji wasn't surprised that the younger crashed into her with impact, almost having her topple back onto table 16 meant for guests that were supposedly Mrs.Jeon's friends coming from France.
It would definitely be interesting to meet them.

The soon-to-be-bride felt the air squeezed out of her lungs as her sister-in-law didn't hesitate to give her a tight hug. One that was a bit too tight, but she was used to it by now.

"How's everything going?! I haven't seen you in like forever!"

Eunji giggled as Yuna held her at arms length, her eyes gleaming and dark curls effortlessly beautiful as always.

"You would've if you had joined us at the family dinner last night." Eunji replied and the younger scoffed jokingly.

"And sit through the most boring dinner ever? I don't think so."

"C'mon, it wasn't that boring. This time I was called a poor maid serving people who are about to die anyways."

Yuna rolled her eyes and scoffed again, crossing her arms over her chest at her mother's remark from the previous night.

"And my brother didn't do shit, did he?"
Eunji tilted her head and smiled.

"Nope."

"Remind me why you're marrying that bitch again,"

Eunji laughed this time, feeling her mood triple from what it had been all morning.

As much as Yuna and Jungkook were literal siblings, their personalities were worlds apart and she was very much grateful for it. She knew for a fact that if her sister-in-law turned out to be as cold and annoying as Jungkook himself, then she would've never made it this far.

"So is everything going smoothly?" Yuna had hooked her arm into Eunji's as they began to stroll around the large banquet hall that was very much expensive just as her mother liked it.

Thankfully Jungkook had offered to pay for all the wedding expenses since he knew his mother well and didn't want to burden Eunji with the amount that it would cost her to satisfy her mother-in-law.

"So far, yes. Your mom wasn't really happy with the silverware, and I'm not really sure how Jungkook handled it, but I think that's it."

"Oh good," Yuna replied as they both came to a stop, spotting mother and son across the room with Mrs.Jeon giving one of the employees a hard time about the decorations along the wall.

"How about you, how are you feeling?" Yuna had taken a moment to tightly hold Eunji's hand as she gazed at her caringly.

"Really stressed." Eunji gave a light laugh, a pained smile appearing. "This is a big step in my life, and I'm really nervous with how it's going to turn out."

The younger gave her an understanding nod and side hug.

"You can still back out. As much as it would be a crappy move, it's nothing compared to living a miserable life with someone you don't love."

Eunji sighed and nodded, soon forcing a smile.

"Yeah I know. But in a way, I feel like I need to do this. I don't know, it's hard to explain."

Yuna squeezed her hand this time for comfort.

"Okay then, I trust you."

"So Ji, are you ready to lose your virginity tomorrow night?" Iseul nudged Eunji's shoulder with a grin, taking a sip out of her cocktail right after.

"Yah! Can we not talk about my brother's sex life?" Yuna yelled over the loud music that pounded, her nose wrinkling and making the other two girls' giggle. Eunji pulled her drink forward, taking a sip as her cheeks burned.

"I don't know. I don't think I'm ready." The soon-to-be-bride played with her pink straw while avoiding her friends' gazes.

"What do you mean? It's the wedding night. You gotta spice it up, hun." Iseul spoke with disbelief, staring at her once coworker, and friend with wide eyes.

Eunji chewed on her bottom lip.

"But we don't have that kind of relationship. We've always been just friends." she murmured a reply and shot a glance at the people crowding the dance floor. "It would be hella awkward, and I don't think I'm comfortable with him to that extent yet."

Although she felt like she was backing out of her slight dream to have a romantic first night with her husband, and probably sounded lame to everyone listening, but Eunji knew she had to see the reality of it all. And that was that although her and Jungkook were getting married, they were nothing close to being an actual couple.

At least the type that loved each other romantically.

Feeling her hand engulfed in warmth, Eunji glanced at Yuna who had captured her hands with a sincere twinkle in her eyes.

"Then no one is pressuring you. Yes it's your night together, but together doesn't always mean you have to have sex. Get to know each other more. As much of a jerk my brother is, he has a soft side somewhere in that stone heart of his, and I'm sure he'll let it surface eventually."

Eunji returned her smile, showing her gratitude. Although Yuna was much younger than her, with the circumstances of living with strict parents and a mother that sometimes acted more childish than herself, she had been forced to mature earlier than her peers. And of course it was the same case with her brother, but they both chose different paths to cope with it.

And she wasn't wrong about Jungkook. He was a jerk, yes, but he held a soft spot for the people he loved. He and his sister would argue and insult each other daily, but in the end he always knew the perfect gift to get her, and Eunji herself had witnessed him sneak in some snacks for his little sis that he had bought while out.

"She's right. You take it at your own pace." Iseul had placed a hand on her friend's shoulder, gazing at her with her brown eyes that twinkled with the lights that flashed in the club. "And you never know, maybe you both will fall in love."

"But!" Iseul continued, "you still put on that sexy lingerie cause everyone deserves to feel sexy on their wedding night babe. Even if he doesn't get to see it."

"And if he forces you into anyt
hing in any way, you call me up right that instant, and I'll beat that bitch's ass." Yuna spoke confidently and gave her sister-in-law a wink, making her laugh and relax slightly from all the tension.

"I will." Eunji grinned and her two friends joining her for her mini bachelorette party returned their own grins.

"Anyways!" Iseul stood up and gulped down the rest of her drink. "We're here to celebrate!" She pulled the bride-to-be onto her feet and ushered her towards the dance floor. Laughing along with them, Eunji couldn't help but let the carefree vibe of the club consume her and didn't hesitate to let her troubling thoughts go to enjoy the rest of her evening.
