24 - Late Night Wine

"What happened to you?"

Jungkook looks to the side as he places his bag filled with files down on the kitchen table as he spotted Eunji folding some laundry in the living room across.

He sighs and turns to grab a cup to pour himself some water.

"Long day at work."

"Oh," she places his shirt that she had just folded aside and uncrosses her legs to stand and join him in the kitchen.

"I made some pasta if you'd like. I already ate since you said you'd be late, so..." she trails off just as he gulps down some water and massages his forehead. "Did you want me to heat it up for you?"

Jungkook sets the cup on the table and they lock eyes, the bags under his eyes telling her that he had definitely had a long day at work.

"I'm not feeling hungry right now," he mutters.

"Oh okay,"

She watches him move towards their living room and to their mini bar against the wall. He pulls out a bottle of wine from the mini fridge and a glass.

"You're drinking now?" Eunji asks curiously only to hear him sigh.

"Do you want some?" he asks, looking over his shoulder.

"Sure."

He turns back and unscrews the bottle, pouring some wine for the both of them this time. Eunji then heads towards him, grabbing her glass of wine and taking a seat on the couch before he does too. She watches him take a sip before leaning back against the couch, letting his head fall and his eyes shut.

She didn't think she had ever seen him like this. Sure there were times when Jungkook came home tired and proceeded to lock himself into his office to do some more work, once having dinner, but never having a drink on an empty stomach right after getting home.

On the other hand, Jungkook felt like his head was ready to burst any moment, and the aftermath wouldn't be good. With the pile of meetings he had to attend, along with displeased customers that he had to deal with in order to keep their partnerships secured, and lastly a nice scolding from his father for not doing things his way had him done for the day, and perhaps the year. He generally enjoyed his job, or at least gotten used to its not so pleasing demands, but there were still times where he wondered what he was wasting away his life with. And those were the days where alcohol seemed like the only solution.

"Do you want to talk about it?" he hears Eunji say from where she sat next to him, clearly expecting him to mention at least something.

"No." he mutters, eyes still shut before he twists his neck and attempts to roll his shoulders.

It had been a while since he had hit the gym and it was taking a toll on his body.

Perhaps he would go tomorrow.

"Alright then," Eunji mutters, not too surprised by his answer. It wasn't like he was one to talk about his feelings anyway. "I wanted to ask if you had anything in mind that you wanted to do for your birthday."

It takes him a moment to respond.

"No."

"Okay great, then you can think about it for a bit and get back to me on that."

He doesn't even bother with an answer, instead lifting his head for another sip of his wine which ended with him drowning down all that was left. Eunji's left staring, thrown off as he stands to grab another glass.

"Want some?" He asks, his back turned to her.

"No..." she responds, still attempting to piece together his behavior. "By the way, what did you do about your secretary?"

"I fired her." Jungkook mutters, turning back to her with his cup now filled with wine once more. Eunji looks up at him with big eyes as she watches him walk back to his previous spot next to her.

"Why? I don't think what she did was that big of a deal to be honest-"

"She disrespected you, Eunji." Jungkook answers.

"Still, I don't think it's enough to put someone out of their job."

"It is when it's the CEO's wife. In no way is it acceptable for her to have said such a thing and created some type of fantasy where I am interested in her. In the case where we were genuinely married that could've led to issues between us."

"Right, cause we're not actually married." Eunji scoffs, rolling her eyes as she tilts her head the other way. She hears him sigh, his eyes briefly shutting.

"You know what I mean."

"No, you tell me what you actually mean, how about that?" she responds, her voice sharp as she turns back to glare at him. "I mean I've done everything possible to make this a real marriage. I can't say the same for you though."

"So I'm the problem?"

"Considering it's not me, so yes."

Jungkook takes another sip of his wine and leans his elbows onto his knees, his brows furrowed.

"What more do you want from me?"

"I don't know, maybe have some emotion?!" Eunji bursts, "Like tell me when something is bothering you, tell me about your day, tell me if there's anything you want to do together. I'm making you do this challenge, yes, but you don't have to make me feel like I'm just a burden. I quit my job and I have a bunch of free time. I don't have much friends to go see and you're always running off to work. I just want to have someone to be able to communicate with so that I don't go insane!"

Once finished with her outburst Eunji finally looked his way, his eyes burning into hers.

"You want emotion?"

His voice almost came out like a growl, clearly not very pleased with everything she had to say.

"Yes."

Before Eunji's able to even react, she watches as he grabs her cup of wine, placing both their glasses on the coffee table in front of them before his hand is holding her jaw, his breath fanning her lips. Eunji's breath is caught in her throat, her eyes wide as she glances up at his dark eyes that stared right into hers, and within her next breath, his lips envelope hers.
