23 - Office Date
Day 15
"I can't believe she said that!"
"I'm honestly not too surprised anymore," Eunji muttered a reply as her car came to a slow stop at the red light. "Her hatred for me has only been growing."
"I'm sorry," Yuna replies on the other side of the call that connected to Eunji's car speakers. "I really wish I was there."
Eunji leans back against her leather seat, sensing the sadness and disappointment in her sister-in-law's tone after having told her the events of the previous night.
"It's okay, you couldn't have done anything anyway."
"Now you're wrong there girl, but I'm just surprised that my brother handled it well. I would've never expected that from him."
"Me neither,"
And even after spending a night and half her day sleeping on it, she still couldn't get the dots to connect. Jungkook's mother had said so many rude things to her in every setting she could think of - other than her wedding, which she was thankful for - yet he chose that night to finally say something.
It was just odd.
And definitely another day of not having him figured out, which she was just giving up on at that point.
"So what are you up to?" Yuna asks after a short while of comfortable silence as Eunji drives through the familiar streets of Seoul.
"I'm heading to Jungkook's work. I made lunch for us."
"Aw~" Yuna coos into the phone, "I don't get why you would spend a second of effort on making him lunch, but that's just adorable."
"It's for the challenge," Eunji replies, "Otherwise making him lunch would be pointless. I doubt he'll even touch it so I won't leave until he does."
Her sister-in-law laughs on the other end of the call, "Dedicated much?"
"I'm just bored, okay?" she mutters in defense, "I've had nothing to do with my time, so I might as well give it my all while I can."
"All I'm saying is that if you wanted a husband who would reciprocate the effort, you shouldn't have married my brother."
"He's not that bad,"
"Your standards have dropped that low, huh." Eunji hears her tease.
"I mean, the other day he pretty much took care of me while I was dying 'cause of my period."
"He's not a heartless monster, just a jerk in some ways."
"Well I still appreciated it. It was more than I would have expected from him."
"He's still an asshole, though."
"You know if you miss your brother that much, you might as well just call him." Eunji finally calls her out, following it with a light laugh as she drives into the underground parking garage of her husband's company. "I'm sure he misses you too."
"Oh please, the only thing he misses is his work." Yuna grumbles.
"Just call him, alright?" Eunji replies as she parks into an empty spot and turns off her engine "And I gotta go now. I'll text you later so we can make plans."
"Alright~"
Both girls say their final goodbyes and end the phone call, Eunji getting out of her car with the bag she had packed their lunch in so that she could head into the building. She walks through the doors and receives greetings from the staff that recognize her, the secretary at the front giving her a keycard for the elevators as usual.
There was no lie in the fact that she enjoyed visiting the building in a way. The furnishing was so naturally modern and nice to look at, the staff treated her well, and well, her husband owned a huge ass company! Of course it was great to visit it once in a while.
"I'm sorry, Mr.Jeon is busy."
Eunji stared at her husband's secretary, who she didn't happen to recognize from her previous visits.
"Sorry?"
"I said Mr.Jeon is busy." the young secretary repeats once more, rolling her eyes.
So much for the staff being nice.
Eunji clears her throat, not wanting to be rude.
"When will he be free?" she asks, as if she wasn't given any attitude.
The secretary looks up from the computer in front of her, scanning over Eunji's figure with a stare that leaves her very uncomfortable and wondering if there was anything wrong with her outfit. Sure, she wasn't dressed her best, but you could never go wrong with a pair of jeans and a tight black bodysuit with no sleeves.
"You would have to book your appointment with him a few weeks in advance, who are you here on behalf of?"
Eunji blinks at her, her brows drawing to the center in confusion.
"I believe there's a misunderstanding," she slowly begins, "I'm Jungkook's wife."
The secretary snickers as she stares at her screen.
"And I'm his girlfriend."
"Excuse me-?"
"Eunji!" a low tone calls her name from somewhere behind her, catching her off guard before Namjoon appears out of nowhere, placing a comforting arm around her shoulders with his usual smile.
"Jungkook shouldn't be busy right now. We can head there together," he says before briefly turning to the young secretary, his friendly grin turning to a deep frown immediately, "And Mis.Won, know that Jungkook will be informed of your inappropriate attitude. You may begin packing your things."
Her features break out into shock before she scrambles to stand, about to protest just as Namjoon directs Eunji towards Jungkook's wide office doors, ignoring the call of his name.
"I apologize for her attitude, Eunji," Namjoon begins with a slight frown, "I've caught her disrespecting several people in the office, but that definitely drew the line."
"It's okay," Eunji replies, a little surprised that he had pretty much fired her on the spot. "It was just unexpected."
"And it will definitely not happen again," he reassures her before knocking on the large wooden doors to her husband's office and not bothering to hear a reply before swinging one open. And there Jungkook sat, behind his large desk, his eyes flickering up from his laptop and the files that were spread in front of him. His brow cocks up when noticing his wife, his head tilting to the side.
"You need to fire your secretary," Namjoon begins, Eunji following behind him to the comfortable armchairs in front of her husband's desk.
"Why, what happened?" Jungkook asks curiously, slipping off his blue light glasses and setting them on his desk as they take a seat across from him
"She wasn't letting Eunji in because she didn't believe that Eunji's your wife." Namjoon explains, his gaze serious, "And continues to sarcastically remark that if Eunji's your wife, then she's your girlfriend."
"It's honestly not that big of a deal," Eunji cuts in right after, her gut twisting with guilt that someone was getting fired because of her, "I'm sure she's learned her lesson-"
Jungkook tsked in disapproval, the look in his eyes just as serious as Namjoon's from the news. "It's not a good reputation for the company. I'll have a talk with her."
"Perfect," Namjoon replies, clapping his hands before smiling and coming to a stand. "I'll be heading back to work then. See you two later,"
Eunji says her goodbyes before he leaves, promising to make plans for dinner once more.
"What's in the bag?" Jungkook asks once Namjoon had left, closing his laptop this time.
Eunji grins, picking up the bag that she had set down next to her feet.
"I made us lunch."
"I have a meeting in fifteen minutes."
"And what? Your mouth doesn't work before your meeting?"
Jungkook sighs, leaning back against his chair.
"Do you need to heat it up?"
He watches her consider it for a moment.
"I think that would be better."
She watches him grab the phone sitting on his desk, pressing a button and waiting a moment for it to ring.
"Mrs. Yeo, can you please come to my office for a moment? Thank you."
He puts the phone down and looks at her.
"It's for the challenge isn't it?" he asks, already knowing the answer from the way she sheepishly nods. "Mrs.Yeo will heat it up for us hopefully in time before my meeting."
"What's your meeting for?"
Jungkook pauses for a moment before replying.
"To go over the revenue analytics of the new game."
"Can I come?"
"You want to come to an hour-long meeting and do nothing?"
"I mean, is there something I can do?
"No."
"Then yes."
Jungkook brushes his hair back, knowing very well that no matter what he said, his stubborn wife would still try to find a way to come with him.
"I just want to see how you work, that's all." Eunji adds, giving a small smile.
"Fine."
- - -
Watching the way that Jungkook worked in front of others was definitely interesting, and after spending an hour of him doing so, Eunji realized that this was his comfort zone, and in a way, what he loved to do. His features remained calm, yet in a way, intense. He was listening to every word that was said, and analyzed all the data that was put up in front of him by his employees to show the success of their new release, following it up with questions she didn't quite understand.
But, to say the least, they were making a lot of money.
And maybe she happened to underestimate how much her husband really had in his pocket.
"So how much of that do you get?" Eunji asks curiously as they walk back to his office from the meeting,
"Five percent," he replies, a stack of files held in his hand as curious glazes were sent their way from some of the employees that caught them passing by. But still, Eunji covers her mouth, absolutely shocked.
"Five percent?!"
"Why is that so surprising?"
"I don't know," Eunji begins, still recovering, "That's like, a lot of money."
"I'm aware."
"Maybe I shouldn't go back to school."
Jungkook gives her a side glance as they walk into the elevator, pressing the button for the top floor where his office is located.
"No you should. Otherwise you have way too much free time on your hands."
"Why? Is that bothering you?" She questions while raising a brow as he takes out his phone and briefly looks at a new message before putting it back in his pocket.
"Yes." he answers, looking down at her, "Otherwise you'll find some new challenge to keep yourself busy."
Eunji frowns this time, crossing her arms over her chest as she catches the small curve of his lip.
"I know you're secretly enjoying it."
"Absolutely. Keep telling yourself that, love."
"We've kissed three times already because of it!"
This time Jungkook lets out an amused chuckle, his eyes wrinkling at the corners as she looks irritated with him laughing.
"You don't have to come up with some challenge to kiss me, Eunji. Some things are a lot simpler than you think."
And before she could even respond, the elevator doors opened at the top floor, her husband casually walking away with a smug grin spread across his lips.
