10 - Date Night

"So like, what type of outfit should I wear?" Eunji stood across from Jungkook who scrolled through his phone on their bed. "Like, if it's at a park or the movies, I'll go for something more cute and comfortable. If it's something like going out to eat, then maybe something more fancy? Then again, it depends on where we're going. Unless it's something like a cafe you had in mind, so we can get something quick before having dinner—"

Jungkook sighed, putting his phone down and staring up at his wife who continued to ramble.

"Dinner, Eunji. We're going out for dinner at a restaurant along the Han."

Eunji's lips shaped into an 'O' before nodding in return.

"So should I go for something more fancy then?"

"That would probably be ideal for a five star restaurant."

"To be fair, you never mentioned it was five stars. Nor which restaurant it is, and what time the reservation is at." Eunji's hands were now placed on her hips in defence as Jungkook sighed.

"The place is called Lab 24, it's a luxury French-Korean restaurant near the Han river, and our reservation is at 7pm. Happy?"

Eunji gave him a tight lipped smile while tilting her head.

"Very much."

"This is nice," a soft whisper left Eunji's lips as her eyes trailed around the view in front of her.

When he said by the Han River, he wasn't kidding.

The table that the hostess was currently bringing them to on the patio outside gave a breathtaking view of the calm river and the life around it; the setting sun, the boats floating by, the cars busily crossing over the bridge to get to the other side.

It was beautiful, and she felt that it had been a long time since she stood there and admired the beauty of life and the city from afar.

"May I offer you a drink to start off?" the hostess asked just as they took their seats.

Jungkook made no move to pull out her seat for her.

"I'll just have a water for now," she answered, glancing at her husband afterwards.

"I'll take water as well."

The hostess nodded before wishing them a nice meal and leaving them alone to look through the menu.

"You've been full of surprises today, you know." Eunji put down the menu to stare at her partner across from her.

"You think so?" he asked, flipping over a page to take a look at the entrees.

"Yup. I didn't expect you to bring me somewhere...this nice."

"Do you not like it?" His brow had risen this time, lifting his eyes from the menu to look at her.

"I do! Well, I can't say anything about the food yet, but so far it looks like a good place. It's nice being out of the house and finally being able to relax after all the wedding preparations."

Jungkook hummed and they both turned back to the menu.

"Have you ever been on a date before?" Eunji was now cutting into the korean sirloin she had previously ordered, bringing it to her lips while waiting for an answer from her partner.

Although they had always been friends, neither would bring up their dating life, even though they probably should have given the life changing promise that they had come to make and keep.

All they knew was that at the age of 28, they both were still very much single.

Then again, Jeon Jungkook was like a coconut. You really had to hammer him down to make him tell you anything about himself.

It didn't help that he looked like one too at times.

"Only once," he responded. "And that's only because my friends had set me up while in college."

Eunji raised her brow, watching as he took a sip of his water.

"Have you really never considered dating before?"

Nothing but a shrug was given to her at first as she continued to stare him down.

"I've told you this already, I have different priorities in life."

He did indeed.

Maybe she should have taken that as a red flag. But then again, she would've just been lonely for the rest of her life.

"But you've had sex before?"

Jungkook was surprised with the question, his chewing slowly coming to a stop as he gave her a cocked brow.

"Yes?"

Eunji was now nibbling on the inside of her cheek, knowing that she probably shouldn't have asked him that while they were out. But was it wrong to be curious about how much experience her husband had?

Seeing that Eunji was now avoiding his gaze, Jungkook sighed.

"It wouldn't happen all the time. Mostly during college, and then if someone approached me while I'm alone at a bar."

She bit her bottom lip, contemplating her next question.

"What if someone approached you now? Not that it would matter, we're not married for love anyways-"

"I wouldn't, Eunji. I'm an asshole at times, but I wouldn't go so low." His gaze didn't falter from hers as he spoke, giving her a softer look. It made her relieved in a way to know that he thought that way, because she definitely wouldn't enjoy her husband messing around with other women when she was there.

"And before you ask me about my body count," he shifted in his seat for a more comfortable position, clearing his throat and looking back at her, "I don't know. And I haven't cared to count."

"Oh,"

"Is my interrogation over?"

Eunji's eyes widened, waving her hand.

"I'm sorry if I made it seem that way, I was just-"

"Curious to know about you're husbands sex life?" He nodded and shrugged his shoulders, finishing off her sentence. "I guess you have the right to. But that means I do too, am I wrong?"

He had tilted his head now, leaning back into his chair as Eunji stood frozen for a moment before blinking and looking off to the side to the table several feet away where a girl was clearly having a heated argument with her parents.

"What do you want to know?" She gulped, prying her eyes away from the table and down to the steak and veggies in front over, pretending to be preoccupied with them.

"Have you had sex before?"

Her breath hitched.

"Well —"

"I HATE YOU!"

A chair fell to the floor by the table beside them as the girl from before pushed it back to stand up, interrupting their previous conversation. Her finger was angrily pointed at the elder man that Eunji assumed was the girl's father, who sat across from the girl, with an older woman holding onto his arm

Everyone was staring at them.

"I'VE DONE EVERY FUCKING THING YOU'VE WANTED FROM ME, AND YOU STILL HAVE THE AUDACITY TO TAKE AWAY MY RIGHTS TO CHOOSE HOW I WANT TO LIVE MY LIFE."

Eunji was left startled, blinking at the scene that was unfolding before her, but didn't fail to notice the father bringing his hand to his chest.

"I'M NOT GOING TO MARRY HIM I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU DO. TAKE MY CAR, MY HOUSE, TAKE EVERYTHING, BUT I SURE AS HELL WON'T BE COMING BACK."

Those being her last words, the girl grabbed her purse and turned on her heel, heading into the restaurant and leaving.

The elder man seemed to be heaving now while rubbing his chest as the girl left, his wife looking at him in concern as the daughter seemed too oblivious to have noticed any signs.

The signs of a heart attack.

Eunji immediately stood up, knowing she had to intervene, and took long steps over to their table.

"I'm a nurse," she spoke to the wife who looked frantic, trying to get her husband's attention. "Sir, can you hear me?"

The elder's eyes fluttered open between gasps as he continued to rub his chest, staring back at her with unfocused eyes.

He nodded.

"My name is Jeon Eunji. I see that you're in pain, and I'm here to help you." He nodded once more, his breaths becoming more shallow.

"Does he have any medical conditions?" Eunji was quick to ask his wife, noticing that his eyes were beginning to close as his skin grew paler.

"He has high blood pressure and diabetes-"

The elder man's eyes closed, his head falling back and causing his wife to gasp as Eunji's eyes widened.

She had to start CPR, and she had to do it now.

"Jungkook!" Eunji yelled over her shoulder while pulling the elder man to rest on the ground, catching him jumping to his feet immediately at the sound of his name.

"Call an ambulance!"

She laid him down onto the floor, checking his breathing followed by his pulse.

Nothing. There was nothing.

She checked for Jungkook over her shoulder, seeing him frozen in place as he and everyone else watched her in shock.

"Jungkook! Call an ambulance now!"

Next, her hands were clasped together, pressing them against the man's chest as his wife sobbed across from her.

She began counting as she began the chest compressions and looked back to see Jungkook bringing his phone to his ear.

"Put the phone on speaker," she spoke, and he obeyed immediately, holding it out for her while kneeling next to her and the unconscious man.

"119, what is the emergency?,

"We need an ambulance asap. A male, late 60s to 70s is currently unconscious and undergoing cardiac arrest. It's been a minute or two since he's passed out, and I'm currently performing CPR on him."

"What is your location?"

Eunji locked eyes with Jungkook for a moment.

"The restaurant is called Lab 24, located downtown near the Han River." she answered.

"Okay ma'am, I'm sending an ambulance your way, they should be there in a few minutes, hang in there."

°•°•°•°

The peaceful first date night that Eunji thought she would be spending with her husband had definitely not turned out the way she imagined.

Thankfully, the ambulance hadn't taken too long to arrive, and within minutes the man had been loaded into the ambulance, his wife brought in with him. Later, she was given many thanks by the manager of the restaurant, and offered to have their dinner on the house, which she had no choice but to accept.

"Can we get ice cream please?" Eunji had tilted her head to look at Jungkook while they drove home, who nodded without a word and eventually parked his SUV in front of an ice cream shop nearby.

They later sat on a bench outside facing the road in silence, consuming their choice of ice cream bit by bit.

Eunji sighed, staring off to the street.

"You did...really well today." Jungkook was the first one to break the quiet air between them, watching the way that Eunji's straight black strands of hair that had escaped her tight low bun now swayed with the breeze.

She smiled in a way that didn't reach her eyes.

"Just doing my job." she answered.

"Are you sure you want to go back to it?"

It took a moment for her to answer.

"I wouldn't exactly be going back to it. I'm hoping that being a nurse practitioner would be less hectic, and I'm planning on choosing a calmer field than the ER."

"So you're studying for another two years?"

Eunji nodded, taking a bite of her cone.

"I don't think I can deal with the ER anymore. I want something more laid back and shorter shifts, especially since we're married now."

The cool august breeze slightly picked up, making Eunji shiver for a moment in her thin strapped black body-con dress as a comfortable silence fell between them once more for a few minutes.

"Thank you for bringing me out today." Eunji spoke quietly, not giving him a glance as he turned to look at her. "And for paying for the ice cream."

"You're welcome."

She bit into her cone again, chewing then swallowing.

"Tomorrow's challenge is a movie night, so I hope you can spare your evening for me." she muttered, not having the courage to look him in the eyes.

Jungkook internally sighed.

Did he even have a choice?

"I'll be home by seven."
