Promise

God promises me, a true friend indeed.

Part I
Memory~

"I weigh 87 pounds. And I'm only twelve, oh my god!"

"That's no big deal, strong girl. I weigh 90 and I'm like, six months younger than you. Not to mention shorter."

"But you're a guy, Adrian. You can weigh absolutely anything and not be criticised."

"I don't see anyone criticising you. And if they do, tell me."

The girl put her head down on the desk and wondered why it was that she was the only one that weighed that much. The only girl.

She wasn't even as tall as the others, and her weight sure as hell wasn't just 'bone weight'.

"Go away Adrian," she groaned, tugging her sleeves to her wrists and bringing them closer to her face.

She was looking for the comforting lime scent. Her scent.

The boy frowned. "I don't see why it's a big deal. That's it," he shrugged. His voice was sincere and he was, indeed, clueless.

The girl didn't respond and Adrian was just too stubborn to leave.

"Plus, you're stronger than basically everyone..." he tried cheering her up.

He watched her for a silent moment, the rest of the world just sinking into the insignificant background of their own, new story.

And it worked.

The girl's head snapped up, eyes slightly glistening from the held back tears.

"You think so?"

"Yeah," the boy nodded, still confused as to why the 'strong girl' of the class was nearly crying.

She held out her arm and the boy backed away in fear.

"No way. I'll lose and you'll tell everyone," he panicked.

The frown teleported to the girl's face. "Why would I?"

The boy didn't answer. His little brain raced to find a comeback, but his heart was something that worked faster.

"Come on Adrian, it's just a small test. You'll probably be stronger when you're older. I'm just making a memory to keep."

He didn't get the point and obviously didn't want to. But still...

"Memories? Stuff to remember?"

The girl nodded enthusiastically, her previous sadness disappearing. All that remained was her usual cheer.

"It's for you to tease me about when we're old and gray, right?" he asked, the full realisation of her evil plan dawning on him.

But his heart...

She smiled shyly, looking out the window. "I wouldn't take it that far..."

He knew she was lying, but still, he held onto her hand to wrestle.

The rest of their classmates continued jumping around in the teacherless classroom like monkeys. Probably making memories.

Part II
Promise~

Adrian walked down the street, his three year old daughter holding on to his coat sleeve. They walked out of the school that was a big part of both their lives.

A tall boy of about seven raced past them and into the school. Adrian chuckled, memories of himself flooding his brain.

A woman, who appeared to be his mother, watched fondly after him.

"Adrian! Slow down," she called out, smiling elegantly. Something about her gave her the whole 'strong and independent' air.

Not physically, obviously.

She walked past Adrian, barely noticing his presence. The sweet, citrus smell of her perfume was the only thing that lingered long after she'd left.

Adrian sighed as an unwelcome memory started playing in his head in the wake of that smell. A memory of his friend.

His daughter's eyes, though, were glued to the beautiful woman.

Adrian's steps faltered when he could finally register the exact words the woman had uttered.

The woman's footsteps too, slowed down in the distance.

A promise, indeed.
