CHAPTER THREE

chapter three
an attack

LYDIA CHAFFMAN WAS LAID across on her bed, just thinking. She still wasn't sure what she thought about Billy, how he was arrested for the murders and then attacking Sidney. It just didn't sit right with her. She wanted more than anything for them to find out who killed Casey and Steven, and now that they have a suspect in custody, she didn't believe it.

She didn't want to believe it. She wondered what Sidney thought about it all, about it being Billy, how Billy attacked her.

The closure didn't feel as good as she hoped it would, because she didn't want it to be someone she trusted.

She glanced around her bedroom. She was home alone, Leon was out working late at the police station, something about being home alone with everything that happened didn't feel right, even if they had somebody in custody.

That's when the home phone started to ring, she jumped before slowly walking downstairs.

She stared at the phone, hesitating to answer, something felt off. Finally, she picked up the phone. "Hello?" She questioned into the phone.

"Hello Lydia," an unfamiliar, but deep voice said.

"Who is this?" She asked. "Tatum? Is this one of your stupid jokes. How are you doing that with your voice."

"It's not Tatum," the voice said. That's when Lydia remembered, she overheard Leon and Dewey talking about Casey receiving a call the night she died and Sidney getting one when she was attacked. That's what got Billy arrested, they thought he made the phone call, according to Leon.

She knew then, she was talking to the killer, or at least someone involved in the killings. "What do you want?"

"I have a question," they said.

She nodded slowly, making her way towards the front door, locking it shut. "What is that?"

She knew their was no point in hanging up, they would just call back. "What's your favorite scary movie?"

"I don't watch horror movies," she said, she was trying to hide the fear in her voice.

"That's a shame. Seems your little... friend, Randy loves them" they said. "Seems he's watching Halloween right now."

Her eyes widened. "What?" she choked out. "Please! Please don't hurt him."

She was nearly begging. "I won't. As long as you answer a few questions correct." They told her. "Now, if you get one wrong, Randy will die, just like poor Casey and Steven. Nobody would even hear him scream."

"Fuck you," She mumbled, she could feel tears in her eyes.

"I'll even make it easy, I'll ask you Halloween questions, the movie Randy is watching at this very moment." They said. She had only seen Halloween once and she barely remembered it. Randy took her to see it when he came out. "Question number 1, who is the final girl in Halloween?"

She knew this one. "Laurie... Laurie Strode!" She exclaimed quickly. "S-she's played by Jamie Lee Curtis!"

"Very good," they said. "Question number two, who played Judith Myers?"

She went quiet, the name was on the tip of her tongue. "Um..." she mumbled.

"Tick tock," they mocked.

She sighed shakily, a name came to her head and she could only hope it was right. "Sandy Johnson."

Their was a long, eerie silence that Lydia hated. Finally, they said something. "Correct." She sighed with relief. "Final question, what was the date Michael Myers killed his sister Judith?"

Lydia nearly smiled, she knew this one. "Halloween!" she exclaimed quickly. "October 31st!"

Their was another silence, before "Incorrect," came through the phone.

Lydia's face dropped, she knew she was correct. "What?"

"The answer I was looking for was October 31st," they said. "1963."

She widened her eyes before quickly hanging up and calling Randy. "Pick up, pick up." She mumbled.

"Hello?" He questioned.

Once she heard her voice, she sighed with a small amount of relief, glad he was still okay. "He's there! The killer!" she suddenly shouted. "H-he called me and said if I got one of his stupid questions wrong he was going to kill you!"

"Woah, Lydia slow down," he said. "What's going on?"

"Randy! The killer!" she screamed. "He's gonna kill you!"

That's when she heard a pounding on her front door and she went silent. "Lydia?" Randy questioned.

She wanted to scream, but she didn't. "I think... he's here."

She dropped the phone, not waiting for Randy to say anything. She quietly walked upstairs to her brother's room and hid in the closet. She felt like her room would be to obvious.

Randy was safe... if it was the killer that was here, she hoped Randy would get her brother... or Dewey or someone to come here, before it was too late.

Ever since Casey and Steve's death, everything that came crumbling down, she constantly wished it was her. But now, she didn't want to die. She was scared to die. Their was so much she wanted to do.

She covered her mouth as she backed into the back of the closet, hiding in the hanging clothes. She was using everything in her to stop herself from screaming, from making even the smallest of noise.

She bit her lip as she could hear footsteps in the hallway, then sirens in the distance. The cops.

She was filled with relief, she could hear movement downstairs and then a door slam shut. She still wouldn't dare get out until she knew it was safe. "Lydia?" Randy's voice called out. She slowly got up and cracked the door open.

She didn't see anyone in the bedroom, but she could hear footsteps in the hallway. She stepped out of the closet and made her way into the hallway. She spotted Randy, he was looking around until he locked eyes with her.

"Are you okay?" He asked quickly as he rushed over to her.

She nodded before she hugged him tightly a "I'm fine, just shaken up that's all," she said quietly. "I just... the killer made it sound like they were at your house, they made me answer these stupid questions."

"Questions about what?" He asked.

"Scary movies, specifically Halloween... they said you were watching it," she mumbled, glancing up at him.

He shook his head. "I wasn't watching anything. I had work tonight."

She knew that, she knew that before. She felt stupid for not realizing it before. "I'm glad you're okay." She said.

He nodded. "You too."

She glanced around. "Is... Leon here?"

He nodded. "He's downstairs, come one." He signaled for her to go with him, so Lydia did. Once Leon spotted her he walked towards her.

"Lydia, are you alright?" He asked. She was somewhat tired of hearing that question over and over again. Obviously she wasn't, she nearly got killed tonight.

But she just nodded. "I'm fine." She lied. Deep down she was terrified and a horrible though crossed her mind. What if it's Randy?
