Alexandra

Dear Alex,

I know it's been weeks since we talked and this letter appearing in your locker must have been quite surprising, especially with the little gift that has accompanied it, but I needed to send it to you as soon as possible, seeing Prom is only two days away. Ha! Send... I feel as if you live countries away and that I had to post this to you via mail. :P Yes, I did just use a smiley face, which actually was missing from your last letter.

Tell me, Alex. What have I done wrong? Was it something I said or did? We haven't had any physical encounters so I'm presuming it's the former. If it was, I want to know what I said that offended, or even hurt, you. I can already imagine you shaking your head at this, saying that I had not offended you but I beg to differ with your successful attempts of avoiding me in school. Yes, I did notice.

I don't know you, Alex. That's a fact. But I want to. That's the truth. Your reaction to the Prom invitation was... Probably more than I could have asked for from any girl and it's not the reaction I got from Susan, who by the way is my ex-girlfriend now.

Did your heart skip a beat at that last line? Mine did. I should have realized sooner but I finally have the chance to be with someone who would actually appreciate me for me and not for my popularity.

So, here's my proposal. I want you to allow me to be your date to Prom. No, this is no mistake. But I believe that the previous one was the best mistake I've made in a really long time. :)

So, what do you say, Alex? You with me on this one?

Will.

I took in a deep breath to calm down by racing heart. Blinking rapidly, I pushed back tears that had formed in my eyes. After all these years of being known as 'One of the Guys', someone decided to break through that wall and actually see me as a girl. What good had I done to deserve this?

"Well?" I heard a deep male voice say from behind me. I turned, only to find the one and only William Simmonds standing behind me with his hands in his jean pockets and a nervous look playing on his face. I was actually speechless. So I looked away.

"Why me?" I mumbled. Something flashed through his eyes and a slight smile appeared on his face.

"Why not you?

"But--"

"Alex," Will interrupted me, taking a step towards me. My breath hitched. I could sense people watching us but I could care less.

"Give me a chance. Please," Will pleaded. I smiled slightly. Looking down, I took a deep breath before looking back up, smiling properly.

"Hi, I'm Alex Gates," I said, holding out my hand. Will let out a laugh.

"Will Simmonds," he replied, shaking my outstretched hand with a wide grin. I laughed, too.

"Can I walk you to class?" he asked.

"That would be awesome."
