You could decide to first notice the muddy potholes thick and sticky, or the growling gutter, hot and stinky or you could even start by noticing the roughness of all the walls in the district or the greyness of the doors and gates of the houses or even the chaos caused by the tattered children running up and down or the raised voices from the elders latest evening Senate gathering talking about politics and women, but Teeta was far lost in her thought as she walk by you will assume she was fascinated by the usual state of her old street.

But all these were not her worries right now, she was on her way to visit her sick friend Maria which means more serious worries to. attend to Maria was her childhood friend, they grew up in these same squalid area before her father got bigger and they moved out to a much renewowned part of the town. they were really close back then people literally think they were twins due to there exact physical size, they used to be both small and tiny so even till date they still keep pretty in touch until Maria was made an arranged marriage with her father's friend, a clingy and annoying fifty year old man.

Teeta hasn't heard from her since her last miscarriage until her younger sister Malka informed her what happened this afternoon.

Maria's maternal home was just as old as all the neighbouring houses the Veranda was all littered with animal waste giving rise to the terrible aura blowing, she raised her head to view the dark cloud heading overhead in its full force it was going to pour any time soon.

She looked at the poor slanted wall, it is evident how the weather is affecting its strength by the permanent dampness and cracks.

The Inside wasn't any better as she remembered it, the only development was the broken entry door it now had.

The late evening and the dark clouds supplemented the grave darkness inside the room Maria was Nursing in, Teeta had to fetch her iPhone to lit the room.

'ah ah my mother is that you' Maria's mother exclaimed as she entered and sat by the edge of the dingy mattress Maria was sleeping.

'yes Naana, it was Malka that called me earlier' she managed a closed mouthed yet sincere smile for the old woman's sake, She can tell how she's trying to appear okay with the situation.

'let me get you something my mother' - and she went out to do as she said, still ranting excitedly

'you shouldn't have bothered my dear'

'she's even getting better day by day'

'is just some minor infections'

Teeta can't help but smile, she has always admire this tough woman who Despite all the troubles life had to offer she had always been patient and strong.

'uhmm, Nana thank you' she drank a little from the cold water as Naana sat at her former spot.

And then an inevitable silence filled the tense room, Teeta had so much questions to ask but kept quiet she knew is a very sensitive issue, and she knew how the poor woman always like to withhold family secrecy even though it's clear in this current one she is on her own.

'she is not getting any better' Naana finally broke the silence, Teeta silently gasped in shock, not sure whether by the mother's sudden outburst or by the bitterness of the truth.

'there is nothing we can do about it, the doctors said she is too young' she added and then a new silence descended again, this time laced with sadness and fear, Teeta wasn't sure what to do there is no words, no solace, can console the poor mother she has been caused pain and left with no ailment.

she looked at her friend laying peacefully on her back, her mouth was slightly open, her breathe was raspy, you can tell on closer look it wasn't an actual peaceful sleep.

'I never supported Maria's marriage, for God sake she was just fifteen' Nana declared.

'and now it's just been a year and everything has already gone wrong' she sighed tiredly.

for a strong person like her to feel so defeated it's really the end of the world' Teeta thought

'what about her husband' Teeta ask yet Dearing the obvious.

'hmm.... Kani field a divorce'

'naana....i.... um.....what if we further.......'she stammered not sure if she is to console or offer hope.

But what hope, she wondered even though the last thing she wants to think is that Maria's case is hopeless.

'Ittihajj, there is no hope. My daughter has chronic vaginal cancer'

Just then it started raining heavily.

Back home Teeta tosed and turn anxiously on her bed.

'ittihajj there is no hope'

She don't want to view it the way
Naana has voiced it earlier, There must not be hope right now but it must be find at all cost.

She fetch her phone.
'Siri, how do I help my friend maria'

Loading......

'Siri could not find what you are looking for. The chirpy computer voice said.

'she has cancer, She was forced to get married at fifteen her husband just divorced her' she explained further

Loading......

'please wait, Siri is processing your request.

Teeta dropped the phone this is ridiculous she mused, how can she expect even Siri to help her when even Maria's father is shunning away.

Maria's future has been destroyed. she went silent in deep thought for some time, before she picked her phone again.

'Siri, how do you help people whose rights have been violated'

Let's breed a world in which we shall no longer need feminism, let's live in a world where every girl should have a right to education.
