Silence

Clara lent over the sink in the bathroom and took long deep breaths while she clutched the rim of the sink. After a few more breaths she looked up into the mirror where she saw Rose stood next to her absentmindedly touching up her lipstick. Clara turned to her shaking her head, before rinsing her hands in the sink before then moving to grab a paper towel to wipe her hands.

''How are you not worried about any of this. They left the room with guns and knives,'' Clara exclaimed, glaring at Rose as she continued to apply lipstick.

''I'll worry when gunshots go off or people start screaming. They've had enough time to do that by now, so they're only going to use it if necessary. We've got time,'' Rose clarified screwing the lipstick down before placing it back inside her clutch.

''Yeah, but how much time before they start doing that. Also how much time have a got before Marshall starts asking some serious questions that I can't just answer by plucking a lie out of thin air,'' Clara hissed.

Rose shook her head and took a couple of steps forward so she was stood in front of her fellow agent. She reached up cautiously placing a hand of reassurance on her shoulder. Clara didn't shrug the hand off, which Rose had been expecting, instead, Clara stood staring ar Rose waiting for her to speak.

''Clara everything is going to be ok. You were unbelievably calm during what had just happened. Marshall in none the wiser about you being nothing more than an assistant. You overthink, everything is going to be alright,'' Rose explained and Clara nodded her head slowly, still a little unconvinced, but convinced enough that whatever happened during the rest of night, they'd do the best they could possibly do.

''I just have one question,'' Clara proposed and Rose nodded, ''if Marshall is outside and we're both in here. Who the fuck is looking after Curtis,'' Rose's face dropped, her mouth hung open, which she covered by placing her hand over her face.

''Shit. I gotta go find him,'' without another word she hightailed it out of the bathroom door.

Clara followed behind slower as to not cause any alarm towards Marshall. She found Marshall peaking out for behind a statue that was placed opposite the toilets. He was looking to his right at the retreating figure of Rose, he brow creased as if he was trying to work out where she was going. Once her figure finally disappeared around the corner her turned his head back straight and yelped in utter shock as Clara stood just inches from him, her arms folded over her chest and her eyebrow raised.

''Fuck don't sneak up on me like that,'' Marshall spat out, his eyes still a little wide and his chest rose and fell as he tried to get his breathing back under control.

''Be more aware of your surroundings Mathers,'' Clara shot back.

''Me, we both got kidnapped and tied up because we hadn't heard those weirdos behind us,'' Marshall pointed out directing his index finger at her.

''Wait are you saying what just happened was my fault, because if you hadn't followed me I guarantee none of us would have been in that situation,'' she bit back, not moving at all from her position in front of him her arms still crossed.

''How the fuck do you know that. Maybe you would have still been taken tied up and wouldn't have had a clue and how would have you gotten out of it,'' he added, moving towards her slightly. He towered over her small frame, but she wasn't intimidated in the slightest.

''I would have gotten out of it the same way. Who do you think I am? Some helpless damsel in distress. Oh, Marshall won't you be my prince charming,'' she scoffed.

''I can be whatever you want me to be,'' he whispered. Clara shook her head taking a step away from him, but he took another step forward to close the gap again. She was about to open her mouth to speak again when a voice from down the hall made her freeze.

''Hey you two aren't...'' But the male voice trailed off as he saw what was occurring in front of him. The man was only a waiter from the hall, but Clara had no idea who it could have been, so she had to think fast.

Without so much of a murmur as to what she was about to do to Marshall, she just flung herself at him smashing her lips onto his. At first, Marshall was confused and unsure how to act, but as she continued to take control over him he soon relaxed and kissed back with more ferocity then perhaps was needed. His hands gripped ahold of her waist as he pulled her closer and Clara's arms behind his neck tightened in response. It wasn't until she pulled away from him, that he realised she'd only done it to get rid of the waiter who was about to tell them to get out of the corridor.

''Right I think we should get back to the main hall now,'' Marshall was left awestruck as she walked away from him. He was puzzled at how she could have just shared in his opinion a pretty heated kiss and then just walk off as if nothing had happened, ''Clara you're one strange chick,'' he mumbled before jogging after her.

The walk back to the main hall was conducted in silence. However, it wasn't the silence between her and Marshall that Clara found uncomfortable, it was the silence that surrounded them that made her stop in her tracks. Marshall had been behind her and the moment she stopped he bumped right into her nearly knocking them both over.

''Why'd you stop? Wanna snog me again? Ow,'' Clara smacked him across the chest to get him to stop talking, he didn't because he kept mumbling under his breath about her.

''Will you shut up and listen,'' she turned around and snapped at him. Marshall immediately fell silent at the sharpness in her tone.

''What am I supposed to be listening to. I can't hear shit,'' Marshall whispered in her ear.

''Exactly, around that corner in the ballroom, where everybody should be. There was a band playing earlier, but now it's dead silent,'' Clara explained and the moment she explained it, he grabbed a hold of her hand and pulled her way.

''We gotta get out of here,'' Marshall pointed out dragging her down the hall further and further away from the ballroom. Clara could have resisted if she wanted, but he had a point they needed to get away, but the only difference is that she wanted to find out what was going on.

They finally stopped, when Clara let his hand slip out of hers. Marshall was confused at the lack of contact and when he turned around her saw her stood at the bottom of a staircase. He glanced up at the plaque that had been placed next to it, which read: 'To Balcony.' He furrowed his brows as he saw her place her heel on the bottom step.

''Why do you want to go up there?'' He questioned.

''It'll be the best way of finding out what's go on,'' she shrugged taking another step. That was a far a she got before a pair of hands wrapped around her wait lifting her off and back down onto the ground.

''Our best bet is to hide or get out of here,'' Clara sighed, pulling herself out of his grip.

''Fine, why don't we hide in here then,'' she pushed open a random door, which opened up to reveal a bedroom. There was a fourposter bed in the centre of the room, a desk in the right-hand corner and two doors plus the one they'd used to enter. One of them led to a bathroom, while the other Clara had a feeling led to another room.

''Oh look we can finish what we started,'' Marshall grinned jumping onto the bed, laying spread egaled on it.

''What's stopping us?'' his eyes nearly popped out of her head as she strolled towards him. He sat up on the end of the bed as she stood inbetween his legs.

''Really,'' he gulped looking up into her eyes as her hands ran across his scalp.

''Close your eyes,'' he nodded. Clara shook her head and walked away from him, ''I'm sorry Marshall,'' she mumbled before she grabbed the key to the room that had been left on the dresser by the door.

Marshall heard the door click shut, but thought nothing of it until he heard the turning of the key and another click. He snapped his eyes open and groaned in frustration, falling backwards so he was once again spread across the bed. He didn't even attempt to go and open the door because he was well aware Clara had gone and locked him in. She was determined and clever, he couldn't deny that.
