Google FAILED

It was snowing the next day. I had been expecting it for weeks, but the whole situation with Renee kinda took more of a priority in my mind.

Kat and I sat on the couch, her iPad in her shaking hand. It was very cold, and we had the heater turned up as high as it could go. We had also put on our footie pajamas, our fuzzy slippers, and wrapped a warm blanket we just got out of the dryer around us, but even then I was shivering. Though, now that I look back on it, I think it was just nerves.

"Ready?" Kat asked. I nodded, and she turned on the iPad screen. She swiped and taped on the Google Chrome app and a blank page popped up. She went to Google.com and the colorful letters popped up above the search bar.

"What was it called again?" Kat asked as the keyboard popped up.

"Project Omega," I said. She repeated it quietly to herself as she typed it in and hit Enter.

I held my breath as the page loaded. It took longer that Google usually does, but it pulled up a long list, each one saying "Project Omega" or something along those lines.

"Yes!" I pumped a fist in the air. "Finally, some answers!"

Then the weirdest thing happened, something I had never seen Google do before.

Suddenly, all the results disappeared, leaving a blank screen. Then, to my utter surprise and shock, the iPad went dark.

Kat and I looked at each other. "You didn't turn the screen off, did you? I asked her quietly.

Kat shook her head. "Have you ever seen an iPad do that before?" she whispered.

"No." I don't know why we were being quiet, but it seemed like the natural thing to do.

"Will it turn back on?" I asked.

Kat hit the power button, but nothing happened. "Must have turned all the way off," she muttered to herself. Kat held down the power button on the tablet and I held my breath until the white little apple with a bite taken out of it showed up on the dark screen.

I let out the breath I was holding in relief. "Thank goodness," I said. "I'd hate to think what would happen if it didn't work."

The home screen came on, all the little app boxes shining normally. This only lasted a moment and then the iPad let out a loud BEEP! that made me jump out of my fuzzy bunny slippers. The iPad went dark again and bright red letters flashed across the screen:

ATTENTION: WHAT YOU HAVE JUST TRIED TO SEARCH IS IN VIOLATION OF ACT 2319 ON THIS DEVICE. IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE DATA ON THIS DEVICE, YOUR IPAD WILL NOW SHUT DOWN FOR TWENTY-FOUR HOURS.

Kat and I looked at each other, and when we looked at the screen again, it was dark.

We were silent, just staring at the dark little screen in Kat's hands. Finally, Kat broke the silence and said, "What's Act 2319?"

I shrugged. "I don't know, but we need to find someone who does."

We were silent again, the shock of what had just happened still fresh in our minds.

"Next time," Kat said, breaking the silence, "we use your iPad."

Author's Note: It's been a while since I've updated this. Almost two months! Anyway, why do you think Google didn't work? What's wrong with Kat's iPad? What is Act 2319?
