<6> Starlight

I know that this picture is used quite often, but it just fits so perfectly with the image of a nice dragon people have...I wanted to use this one —

And just say mix the two together, but that doesn't really matter when there's that perfection does there?

————————————

I opened my wings and shot into the air, the wind felt amazing as it swept around my head, wings, scales, and body, but it didn't distract me from the main reason why I went into the air. The flashes of shiny dark blue were going further and further away, and I growled in frustration and gave chase.

I wasn't used to using my wings this hard and the Blue streak just kept on getting further and further away, so I angled my body and aimed to intercept its path.I got closer and closer and suddenly it shifted to the right and I crashed into the space where it had been.

I growled in frustration as I tore myself from the giant crater and noticed that the path it made was like a frost trail. It was starting to get colder and colder and I wasn't comfortable in advancing due to my body being made of molten fire, and the fact that I had never felt with ice or frost before.

I couldn't resist the curiosity gnawing at the edge of my mind, and eventually I caved moving forwards deeper into the mist surrounding me. It started cooling down my external temperature by quite a degree and I was forced to allow my internal heat to rise and balance out the difference in temperatures.

Come on Starlight, now is not the time to be regretting a bad decision I hissed at myself, but my body didn't seem to want to move further as the fog got denser and the trees became coated in ice. I caught sight of that glacier blue color again, and this time it was running through the frozen side of the forest. Just looking at those trees made me shiver and hiss with displeasure and annoyance.

I went through the top of the trees on my half and decided to see if I could go around. I set my claws on the bark near the tree directly beside me and climbed. The bark steamed and blackened as soon as my claws touched it, but it hadn't burst into flames yet so I was fine. I quickly made my way through, going from branch to branch, but making sure not to stay on one for too long otherwise the branches might dry out too much and they might snap underneath me or burst into flames.

At that moment I was glad for my sleek, hunter's build, and my expertise in climbing trees up and down continuously in this form. I looked around, not even bothering to look at the tree as I went down, just letting my instincts take over while I surveyed the area. I noticed that lower to the bottom of the ground, there was a slight fog still over the entire section of forest floor. I stepped off of the last branch and sighed digging my claws into the tree trunk and then blowing at the fog a little. My razing breath immediately cooled the ground and breached the fog for almost ten feet before the fog retook the area. I could feel the bark growing weaker and drier underneath me, so I closed my eyes, opened my wings slightly for balance, and lept into the air, letting a little of my heat through my scales.

I let only enough heat to cause the fog to disappear from around me, and create a sort of pocket of warm area that I was the center of. I stood there for a second looking around as the fog drifted around me deciding whether to continue into the large circle of frozen woods or not. The ground looked like it was gathering snow and the air was definitely cooler than it had been above the tree tops. I didn't smell any humans, nor any other animals around, in fact I didn't hear anything either, but I guess that was reasonable. I mean, you wouldn't be making noise if there was an mysterious piece of frozen forest with one, potentially two apex predators around.

I heard a slight drag in the leaves behind me and I immediately turned to face the potential threat with my mouth slightly open and lava spilling over the sides of my maw. But there was nothing there. Then I saw something move on my left, in the corner of my vision and I let loose a magma ball ahead of where I saw the movement, and the heat melted away the fog and part of the frost forming on trees before lighting up a gigantic bulky creature covered in ice. Then the creature was sealed by the fog once again and I was left with nothing to go off of.

I rumbled the forest with my growl. Upsetting the fog around me and making the ground around me rumble slightly. I was getting to the point of just going full flare and attacking whatever it was that was stalking me. I closed my eyes and thought about nice things to cool down my fire. Think about shiny rocks, gleaming metal, gold, and flying. I had pushed my fire a little deeper inside of my body, and my scales lost a bit of color. I quickly climbed the nearest ice-covered tree, and began walking around in the tree tops. Then I noticed something coming forwards through the fog, something that I never would've seen if I had been giving off heat as greatly as I had before.

The figure was at least twenty feet long, only a couple feet longer than me, and for some reason I knew that the figure was male, about my age, probably a little older, and maybe only stronger through the pure muscle underneath all of those scales. I had to give him a little credit though, he did a good Jon at keeping hidden and keeping other things out.

I set a goal of incapacitating him before he got the chance to register the ambush. He was almost underneath me now and I could see that his teeth, scales, and horns were a dark blue, his teeth looked like the sharp icicles forming on the branches around us. His were bigger though, with fangs at least a foot and a half long, maybe slightly bigger and the rest of their teeth weren't much shorter.

His eyes were a deep blue color, perfectly matching the the rest of his chest plating. He had four horns, larger ones on side top of his skull and two short ones in the center a bit further up near the eyes. Purple at the bottom and fading into a dark ocean blue and then into a medium shade of icy blue at the very top. The middle ones just having barely a little dark blue coming the bottom half, and the rest being the medium-light colored blue shades.

His scales, being the same thing, purple, deep dark blue, and medium blue shades, and they were shifting like water as his powerful muscles moved him around. I just sat there stunned for a second at his beauty, and then his clueless head came to a stop underneath me and I came to my senses again and remembered what I wanted to do. I revolved around to hang upside down on the branch I was on and then I let go flipping mid-air to land on my feet, on his back.

He had noticed the movement, but I was already on him, letting my scales come to full heat. The rush of my heat flooding my muscles made me faster and stronger, but he was faster than I had realized. I still rammed into his side instead of his full back, and he growl-screeched as he fell and we rolled a few times. Breaking through trees and flattening grass in our tumble before eventually coming to a stop. With me on top, my tail positioned around my shoulder a foot from his neck, ready to put a hole through two sides of it with a single motion, and with my full body weight pressing down on him to keep him trapped on his back.

He surged up and tried to overpower me with his strength but I anticipated this and used his momentum to fly into the air and come back down with full force right on his horns causing him to turn into a face planting dragon pancake underneath the stronger, smarter female above him. My back left leg was now pinning his tail, which has a two and a half foot long icicle at the end of it and more going a few feet around and up. However I doubted he could also shoot the tip of his tail as a fast projectile like I could and grow the end back within three minutes. The rest of my body was laying against his and his forelegs were trapped underneath his body with no leverage for a power haul move like before.

He started to struggle for a good five minutes, and once he realized that I wasn't going to budge, he went limp underneath me and turned his head to the side to expose his neck more. His eyes closed and he reeked of shame and partial fear. I spit a glob of molten fire a little ways above his head so that I was clear to speak. That wasn't a threat, I swear.

What were you trying to accomplish? I asked, Scaring me? Leaving me alone long enough to let down my guard? He looked genuinely surprised to hear me speaking for some odd reason.

I am sorry, he said looking me in the eye with one of his own and I noticed that his voice was also full of shame, and he was trying his best not to growl or lash out due to the pressure and absolute power I held over him, but he was also very powerful and I admired him for it. I thought that you were one of their eperiments sent to capture me again, but you were acting too strangely to be a slave to the MLC's so I was trying to observe you more instead of attacking. I tilted my head at the last part. What in the world was an MLC, and why was that important at the moment?

What does MLC mean? I growled pressing his face further into the earth and that got a growl from him, but I just smirked in response. Be as mad as you want, you will still have no choice but to answer my questions.

Its a term I came up with when talking about the Mad Lab Coats so I don't have to say their full title. You should know them, they're the crazy people that turned you and me into these...things. He growled faintly and I realized that he could be a potential friend, but I didn't move for now. He seemed to be a fighter, but at the same time he was fighting himself and it was causing him to miss things his instincts should be covering.

Okay, I said, I understand that now, I escaped from them about a half year ago, but you seem different from me, you still smell human. Why is that? I eyed him suspiciously and set a false measure of trust to see if he'd try anything.

What do you mean? He asked looking at me strangely, do you not have family that are still humans? I shook my head and growled.

No my family was taken from me by raiders and an ambush with those other creatures. I didn't know what he called the Mutated so I'll just stick to that.

Oh, I apologize—

Don't. Just tell me how are your humans dealing with your transformation? I asked him and he was silent for a moment. I just stepped off of him and moved to the side. I readied myself to shoot a beam of plasma at him in case he did something stupid.

I-I don't know. I think it helps that I can change forms, from dragon to human, but some of my dragon-like features were transferred to my human transformation, and they are still getting used to my appearance. I suddenly felt cold, and he must've noticed that my scales had dulled considerably because he took a step closer to me, and I growled and took a step back.

Can. Can you not change forms? He asked and I looked away. I couldn't cry, the heat of my scales, no matter how toned down would evaporate my tears immediately, but that didn't stop my eyes from watering.

No. No I can't, I said. For some reason I was starting to get angry again, and I knew that it wasn't at him, it was at the Scientist that turned me into this creature in the first place, but he was there to feel it anyways. I still couldn't help but feel jealous of him because he could do something that I could not do and would give anything to be again, even if it meant having different features.

Have you tried to at all? I heard him say, and I shook my head. I needed to get away from this right now. Being near him wasn't helping my mood and I was going to do something that might shatter whatever it is between it moment of peace. I could feel him getting closer, his cold body was a very big signal to my heat sensing the things around me, and I just lifted my tail and pointed it at him to warn him.

I would think that thinking of memories of my past human life would've made me shift between forms about four and a half months ago I growled, that wasn't a fun time for me, but I couldn't bring myself to end my own suffering. He was silent, probably having nothing to say, and I broke and roared.

There was no real reason why other than pure anger, but it made me feel better. The sound of it made birds fly into the air, and I could feel the body heat of so many animals as they ran away. The other male dragon was frozen in a state of shock and reluctance.

I decided that maybe a hunt would make me feel better, and I gave no warning before I shot into the sky at lightning speed. My wings and tail severing through several trees as I blasted upwards. I caught my first kill before the shards of frozen tree bits could hit the ground. I killed three more deer before my anger subsided, so I grabbed the two remaining bodies, spreading my wings, and shot into the air once again to head home.

The flock of birds flying away from my previous roar were just ahead of me, and I was in no mood to deal with them. My maw opened and white-hot flames consumed their small light bodies, turning them into ash in mere seconds. And I just gathered up the rest of my anger into my throat and let out my final roar. A roar that shook me to the bones, the deer bodies in my grip were turning into ash as I continued, but I didn't care. I wouldn't be able to eat them anyways, and they were ash before I was finished but I felt much better having let that out.

The shock wave had sent fleeing birds crashing back into the trees, of which creaked and toppled to the ground after a half minute or so, my maw was spewing white hot fire. The liquid fire cooling as soon as it dropped from my maw, but the height I was at sent them down like bullets ripping through anything in their path.

Before I realized my wings weren't carrying me through the air it was already too late. I was falling through the air, the ashes of the two deer creating a thin cloud above me, and my body too weak and strained to move. Then I saw green, the leaves of non-frozen trees as I passed through. I heard the branches breaking underneath me, but I didn't feel them at all. Then my entire body stopped and so did my sight.

Thanks for reading and I hope that you like the new addition to the book. They are actually a character that was thought up and modified by posiden9999, so I want to thank them so suggesting a new character and for those that enjoy reading the new version of the story even though it's been a while since I've updated it.
