<5>Starlight
I slept good that night, well as good as you can on a burning metal platform that is. Maybe it was slightly better this time just because of the four Mutated that I had eaten. Or maybe it was the power I held over those two humans yesterday. Either way I had slept good last night. Sadly it was interrupted by a human coming into the barn that I was sleeping in.
Why me universe? Wasn't getting turned into a literal lava dragon enough?!
He, based on scent alone, was loud, so loud in fact that I was sure that some of the Mutated lurking around just outside of my territory had surely heard him come in. They don't anymore, makes it rather boring now, but I was grateful for the peace I had. They were either waiting for him to leave due to my presence, or they hadn't heard him at all, and I seriously doubted that side of things. Like seriously dude, let a dragon sleep in peace! It wasn't even noon yet!
I rose to my feet, the scorched cement underneath me black from the heat that I unconsciously fluctuated between while I slept. I was surprised that I hadn't burned right through to the metal yet, but at the same time I'm glad it has held. I stretched quickly and peeked over the edge to see a man in dark clothing, brandishing a sword with a heavy metal net on his back with a rifle over it. Ah, so that's what was making that much noise, I'm surprised he hadn't been ambushed already. There were also two swords in his hands, and he was looking around warily. I huffed. Another hunter...great.
You humans just don't give up do you? I growled in my head. Ether way I guessed by the slight clicks on the metal ramp I had made in case I was lazy and wanted to drag my heavy self up to the platform. It wrapped around half the warehouse's walls before connecting to the side of the platform in a wide sort of partial hourglass.
That the hunter would have an easier time climbing the building and dropping from the giant hole in the roof than going all the way around. I turned around and lay looking at the direction he was going to come from anyways, and it took a while but he eventually reached the high rise over the platform and decided to just jump over and grip the edge with his hands. So. Much. NOISE.
I had to shift again and that alone annoyed me to no end. I was big, I was heavy, and I was tired, so some stupid ass Hunter trying to capture me for fame wasn't going to ease my mood...
Okay watching him struggle to get over the edge with that much fear was amusing.
He got over the top, 'dusted' himself off, and looked up only to freeze. Seeing that I was already watching him lazily with glowing red eyes filled with annoyance and partial amusement. I saw his eyes go wide before I blasted him through the top floor North windows. The Mutated can have this guy, he's too stupid to eat.
I sighed and went up through the roof. There I found the truth of why nothing was following him inside. There were quite a few bodies not too far from the front entrance. Huh how nice of you to leave me a morning snack, but I guess that this means the punk didn't get any other attention huh?
I went over to the north side of the building and smelled the blood before I got to the scene. The guy had gone through the rusted steel beam of a former light pole and then across the road into a shop. Creating a rather sizable hole in its side, but he had already gotten up and fled during my feast. Dammit I was too lazy right now to chase him. Maybe he'll get eaten by a group of Rippers or a pack of wolves with how much blood he's losing.
---------------------------
Three months later I found the two humans from the forest again, and they seemed to be doing better physically, and they were tracking something. I was in the trees at the moment watching them from maybe two hundred yards away. Thanks to my superior vision I could track them at this distance. The girl suddenly looked up and got out a bow and arrow and they walked West, towards my town and I growled. They were only about three miles away from the warehouse I called home and I did not like the aspect of the city discovering where I slept.
As I got closer I saw just how much better they looked now than when I first saw them. Instead of their clothes being in tatters, with dirt all over them and the crappy weapons that they used to have. They now had actual armor and better, cleaner clothes; Their skin was also shiny and clean and they had better weapons
The girl had a metal compound bow with arrows that had metal tips and woven shafts that glowed in the midday sun above us. Along with all sorts of knives along her waist, and probably even more hidden in her armor and clothes. There were even a pair of pistols on her thrifts. The male had two swords on his back, a spear and shield in his hands, and two pistols at his hips, and I guessed he also had more things hidden but I couldn't see where they would be.
I stepped down from the tree that I was on and was another few kilometers closer to the town in a flash of crimson light. They both looked at the buildings and a flash of gold caught all of our attention, and I waited till they went into the building before following and going atop a house right next to them. The roof hissed and gave off smoke as my claws dig into its frame and my body melted everything else.
Suddenly the back door crashed outwards and the familiar male had his spear at another's throat and a foot in their chest. It was just a kid, a kid that had a single brick of gold, maybe pure, maybe colored, but still eye-catching....no, not the time to get possessive.
I craned my head over the side of the roof to get a better look inside but the girl wasn't in view, and I risked moving to another house before looking back to see the guy putting the gold brick in a bag at his side. He hauled the kid up to his feet and the girl stepped out from where she was on the back porch of the building. Ah, I guess she looked out for dangers and he deals with the threats then.
The kids eyes were wide as he found my eyes and I bared my teeth as all the color drained from his entire body. Great, you just ruined my study time human. The others had noticed the kid not paying attention to them and they followed his gaze to mine, and where I lay on the building watching them lazily. The guy and the girl stepped in-front of the kid and then I heard something crack in the wind and a glint in the edge of my vision. I lashed out my tail and cut a bullet in half as it flew towards my chest, the edges glancing off my shoulders and ricocheting into the buildings below. I mini-flared in rage. Another hunter?! Seriously? I thought you all had given up a month back?
I was so mad that the aura of heat I had become used to suppressing surged forward with full force. My scales become a multitude of glowing colors: white, red, yellow, orange the hotter the color the deeper inside of my body it got. With my scales becoming red at the tips and then green, blue, and white where the white extended into the lines between the scales.
The building under me disintegrated due to the heat and collapsed from under me. The remaining structure collapsing inwards and then bursting into flames. I stepped out into the street behind the two now healthy kids to see a group of three hunters in the center of the street in-front of me. One of them had a rifle in his hands already aiming down range towards me.
Another group coming from behind them, also with large hunting rifles in their hands. I looked back and saw at least ten more coming towards me and then the roofs and alleys came to life. Soon I saw maybe forty hunters around me, and I looked over and saw the girl, guy, and their captured kid standing there in shock.
The kid came to his senses and fled as soon as I looked at him but the other two stood there in shock as hunters poured in around them, ignoring the children for the bigger prize. I growled as two hunters came closer to me at each side and they must've seen my eyes flash dangerously before yelling to each-other.
"It's charging something! Spray it NOW!" said the one North of me, and guessing by his smirk and his gun that already smelled of burning gunpowder. He was the one that shot me o-so-fearlessly, and he was their temporary leader. I then realized what he had said and my heart dipped to my tail. They had hoses, water; they had fire's natural enemy, my enemy.
When I wasn't taking a nice swim in a nearby lake or anything and enjoying the water around me water wasn't that bad. If you looked over the fact that all of the aquatic creatures were boiled alive and floated lifeless by the time I was done. But I got free, cooked fish and now that I think about it that wasn't a so bad side effect to have.
Four jets of water came at me from all directions breaking my train of thought. It cooled my scales making me feel rather nice, but it also caused by heating core to cool and fire became hard to generate. I glared at the leader in annoyance, bath-time was tomorrow, not today you punk. But they seemed to have put a lot of preparation into this and thought that they were going to capture me with just this, but I was not gonna let it be easy.
My skin sizzled and I flared anyways, it was a little trick I figured out how to do when some idiots cornered me in a house when I was still getting used to my new body. An accident but it still taught me something, so I figured out how to use it and mastered it enough for something like this. The water on my scales and the water around me vaporized in an instant, but sadly they were protected from incineration and the water kept on coming. I bared my teeth in annoyance and roared at them, my tail lashing madly.
Fine, if I can't vaporize you, then I'll just tear you all apart, I thought and shot backwards to the now twenty behind me, the others were more spread out so I could deal with the bigger group first. There was also the fact I wanted to save the leader for last, but who said that was leading my actions.
I punched through the water, causing it to split around me as I shot towards them at full speed. I rammed the hose with all power I held as well as the others around it and it was ripped from the humans' grips and torn to shreds. I smirked as the humans flew around me, literally, some in shreds, some with broken bones and bruises. I was angry, these fudgers had taken away my fire, and in doing so most of my power.
Several went into the air and I screeched with glee as they crashed through buildings and flew into alleyways, never to come out again. I turned to the others injured and barely standing. The shredded hose was spraying in several directions and I tracked where it was coming from, a different building a little further back. I grabbed a couple hunters in my mouth and one with my tail and sent them at the source, biting down on the ones in my mouth to taste the sweet human blood they held.
Their squishy bodies and fragile bones crunched and split as my teeth easily cut through armor, muscle, and bone. The other, already dead, crashed into the house, and it's piping and the water from the hose went down to a trickle and it's pipe warped and burst. Spraying water in all directions like a backwards waterfall. I leapt around tearing into the rest with blood and body parts flying everywhere else including onto me. No one was safe from my wrath.
Once they all ceased to breathe, I shot through several walls for the stragglers in the roofs and alleys untouched by carnage. They saw me on the other side of the street and screamed for the others to move but they were too late. I grinned maliciously and devoured the slow ones, all of them.
I passed the other source and my tail lashed out and cut out the hoses piping clean through. I almost felt bad, so much water was being wasted in their fruitless efforts. Water that could've been used to feed or help those city dwellers in some way. The people all around me split in half or into pieces as my claws and tail passed through them. Or they were snatched up in my maw and promptly swallowed. My fire was slowly coming back, as only one hose was able to track me properly now. I jumped over the 'leader' who was taunting me with random words, of which I just ignored, his bullets couldn't do anything to my hardened scales now unlike a half year prior.
I wasn't even sure if he knew he'd switched to a different language entirely, but it was still hilarious to see the disparity and utter helplessness in his eyes as I passed over him. I let my tail cut into his cheek slightly as a warning and tore into the ones behind him. There was truck that held these guys' water but it was crushed underneath my weight and pierced in several places due to my claws. Once all of the hunters behind him were in bloody pieces all around the street. I turned to the area that the rest should've been hiding in alleys or roof but they were gone. The 'leader' was also now long gone, and I hopped off of the metal scrap pile on wheels and tipped it over purposefully.
I smiled and launched myself into the air, looking around with my heat vision: There was the kid about fifteen miles away and walking now, the two that had tracked him here were once again on his trail, the fading heat signatures of the other dead hunters underneath me, oh wait one was still alive, in a house, eh whatever. The Mutated could deal with him.
I looked away and turned in the air until I saw what I wanted to the left area that I was originally looking at. I was surprised that they didn't bring any Changed here honestly, apparently the Wolf men and Tiger women were insanely strong being enhanced creatures and all. They sounded fun to fight, but sadly I don't think that would happen for a good while.
The 'leader' was there to the south, running in a straight line towards a boxy car that had a slight heat signature still I guess that was his getaway car? It was so far away though. Oh wait that was that 'Jeep' I had mutilated a while ago to test out the sharpness of my claws when they're heated to become white.
I had stuck a few white hot claws into the hood slowly and they burned a hole straight through with no resistance. Then I swiped at the sides quickly just to see how a quick strike faired and it melted and cut through the steel like it wasn't even there. I then decided to bite off the hood but spit it out not a second later due to a weird taste and smell coming from inside.
I shot up, turned in the air until I was diving and opened my maw. My flame was bad and fully prepared now so I let loose a jet of white-hot plasma from my maw. I aimed towards the man just as the jet of heat and light erupted from my mouth and I think he just went poof.
Oh did a also mention that I did then same thing to every single car out there. What?! I was Bored, looking at the steel wall of a warehouse for days on end does that to you. And if I didn't destroy the cars it would've been the buildings, and those provided protection and slowed down anyone coming from the city.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw a crystal blue color in the forest somewhere. I looked up from my destruction and nothing was there. I just landed and decided to envelope a car in lobs of magma and watch what happened. The magma drifted over the sides, into the back and front of the car, and it sealed the sides shut with molten metal and intense heat.
I went around to the front of the car, and saw that the inside was starting to turn into a raging fire. I wonder if it would be fun sleeping or swimming in a pool of lava, or maybe erupting a volcano just to feel how hot they got.
I look back to the forest to see if I could catch that blue flash again and maybe go after it. As if it read my mind, a long vertical flash of icy blue dropped down from a tree and disappeared into the forest, with me hot on their trail now.
So apparently I am in the mood to seemingly rewrite all of my old stories for some reason. Even though I have TONS OTHERS To be writing at the moment 😪
Sorry to those waiting on Tortured Warrior, Project Predator, or Generation Fur. I am having a sort of apocalyptic mood right now...in the sense that I want to write about post WW3 stuff, zombies, and non-human creatures (furries).
