<2> Starlight
The table suddenly moved again, changing so that I was facing the floor instead of a wall. I felt something from behind me slide down. The cold air of the room hit my neck first, but the feeling extended downwards until the entire middle of my back and neck was visible.
I tried to shift and get my back to a warmer, less open spot, but the entire back of the metal table had slid down and the only thing that was still open were the sides and bottom. Being a metal plate just above my butt again. I felt the metal bars tighten around my limbs: harder over my waist, chest, and arms.
Then the man pressed down on the areas just around my spine, and around my ribs and neck. Then they grabbed the brown strap now hanging beside my head and brought it across my fore-head before tightening it on the other side and pinning my head in place with the only motion I could move being backwards. Then they went to my right side and pressed something on the right underside of the table.
The table suddenly started to move forwards, not like closer to the wall, but closer to the floor. When it stopped all I could see were the scientist's shoes moving around like a pair of mice as they went to and fro in my field of vision. Then they pressed another button and the metal at my sides inches closer together across my back. Something long and pointy flashed just below the table and I freaked out.
"What's that?" I said loud and clear, but they kept on moving like I didn't say anything in the first place "What are you doing with that? Don't you dare—"
I was interrupted by the sharp pain of something thin and long entering the small of my back. I clenched my teeth in pain as the feeling went deeper and deeper, it felt like it wasn't going to stop, and then it did. The feeling receding for a moment. I breathed in relief as a clink sounded and then the feeling of the sharp pain came back, but higher up in my back. After the fifth I couldn't hold in the pain anymore and a scream escaped my lips.
Five more times this went on; giving me unbearable pain, the pain stopping for a short moment while they changed something. Then coming back, stopping, and coming back and by the time they started to walk around again. I was barely able to see straight as they pulled the sharp thing out again and walked off humming while pushing around something on wheels.
Then they started to put things on my back and I was surprised to find no more pain cane, but instead a soft, cotton-like feeling covered the entirety of my back and neck. They actually placed a stand at the top of my forehead and undid the strap so they could fold the metal beside my head to wrap the softness around my neck. I was grateful that the stand was there as I had lost all feeling in my neck and head so as soon as that strap was removed my head came to rest on that stand.
The cotton feeling near my neck was particularly big, and then the table moved again. Increasing my field of vision slightly as I was raise higher away from the ground. I pushed down the pain as the sudden shift of position caused my back to burn up. at me and I gritted my teeth as it went searing through my nerves and muscles.
Then one of them came to the front of me and put a sort of brace on my neck, and then the table moved backwards. I grit my teeth once again as the shift caused more pain, and now I was staring at the ceiling. It started moving again, going in the opposite direction from when I woke up here.
Once I passed that first hallway, now on my left, that man walked into view and the table slowed for him to walk by my side.
"Now that wasn't so bad was it?" he said and I growled at him, glaring the best I could through watery eyes. Just breathing hurt so much right now, "Now I just have to wait till you survive the next stage and then there only be one more stage to go through."
"Oh don't worry, you survived the worst part of it all...we think. Kinda walking on unknown territory with you being out last surviving chance after all. If you survive this next stage of cleansing, then I know that you'll survive the full transition.
Then we can finally show you to the world and you can turn it into the way it is supposed to be once and for all." The man went behind me and I tried to look back at him but the neck brace prevented me from moving too much, as did the pain. I grit my teeth as the table suddenly jerked right and into another darkened room.
"Now your gonna what, kill me or something?" I growled and he smiled
"Oh no, I bet you will want to die, you may even beg us to kill you, but no sorry, this process will be a slow one." He walked into my center of vision and strained to try and spit in his face, but I was in too much pain too suddenly to even move my head properly. Much less try to angle it or open my mouth.
"Those bandages will absorb as much blood as they can, but whatever they can't absorb will leak through, and we're giving you an anti clotting agent so that this process completes properly. I hope to come back in an hour with you laying here, either unconscious, or with a large puddle of golden blood underneath you." He was crazy, a crazy and twisted scientist who relished in my pain.
"Don't you dare leave me in here," I yelled as he walked from my vision, regretting it immediately. I didn't even notice that there had been another set of needles inserted into my arms. The door started to close, slowly, tauntingly as if he wanted my to hate him more
"Don't you dare leave me in here!" I screamed in rage and partial fear. I tried to fight, break out of these restraints, but it was hopeless. I thrashed and screamed for a god while. Then came my mental breakdown: my family was taken from me, and now soon would my own life, and I couldn't even fight against it either.
Then came the gradual feeling of weakness. How long had it been, it only felt like I'd been here only around twenty minutes. The door opened and the man stepped in looking at me in surprise.
"You're still awake?" He exclaimed but I was too tired to even think about moving at the moment. Don't fall asleep, don't fall asleep, oh good he left, don't fall asleep don't fall asleep—
I soon became a trances to the sound of my beating heart, and then the darkness seemed to get more alluring, peaceful even. Eventually it lead me to close my eyes and I was sent wandering through the abyss.
----------------------
Beep, beep, beep
I came out of my slumber to the monotonic sound of beeping that was surprisingly sharp in my ears. Cutting through my sweet escape to darkness and silence.
Beep. I wanted it to stop! I felt a part of me move, and the song stopped. Ah, that's much better, not I can...my eyes snapped open and saw that I was in a different room, also it was pretty well lit. Not hurting my eyes or anything, and then I looked up and saw that the lights weren't even on! What how was that possible?! Actually does this mean that I'm nocturnal, or can I just se in the dark?
I really hoped it was the second one.
I could feel something on my head, neck, and past my butt. I lifted my head up and saw that I still had human hands and feet. They were just tipped with two inch claws, I had a tail in between my legs, drooping off the end of the table, thankfully that seemed to be the end of the noticeable changes so far. I could live with this.
I thought that he meant that I would transform into something hideous, something that no one would accept without trying to kill first. I looked left, nothing. Same for the right, well, except for the strange black stuff going from a series of packets hanging along the wall to tubes leading into my arms and legs.
I strained and the sharp pain of my back came back once again in full force, and I was knocked breathless for a moment. Then I realized that I could only feel my back, it made me uncomfortable. Now what did they do to me? And why was so much of that thick looking black stuff going into me?
"Don't worry, were just giving you the blood that you lost during the bleeding process" the man's voice came in through what sounded like a speaker system. It cut me from any observation and sent lava through my ears. I strained to cover my ears, but the metal over my arms and legs prevented me from moving.
"You really like talking don't you?" I growled, come in here why don't ya, so I can rip your ass apart." What was wrong with me? I was strapped to a metal table, in pain all over, half dead and deaf, and now I'm challenging a psychopath that could make my life worse?!
"Oh ho, it seems like the Phoenix blood and dragon marrow are finally getting along with each other." He seemed smug, I wanted to rip his face off more for it. And the speakers were still to loud you idiot. "Sadly I cannot come in there as this is a critical part of the final process. You see the blood needs to have a clean, germ free, uninterrupted environment to actually work like it should.
"Otherwise it might be influenced by something we don't want it to be effected by and that would either mutate or straight out kill you." I glared at the ceiling, not like it could could react, but I was angry and wanted to direct that hate towards something. Would've been nicer if that something was a certain crazy person, but the wall will do for now. Wait is that a crack I see?
"And what if I interrupt the process?" I said threateningly
"Oh please, be my guest, if you can't get out of those bonds I'll let you walk out of here. If you can even walk right now, and you aren't getting out of those. I've seen what they are capable of restraining." The man scoffed and I growled louder, what was wrong with me?! I didn't growl, I wasn't an animal, and yet I felt closer to one than I did human.
There was a strange raw power coursing through my veins, it was strange and yet quite welcoming. I felt like I needed to let it happen, shed my current form and turn into something...better than human. Yet I felt scared of what might happen should I give in. I doubted I had a choice in the matter anyway.
"Ah it seems the changes are almost complete, your mind must be swarming with intense feelings right now " he said and I growled reflexively. Turn down those dam speakers, they hurt my ears. But I couldn't seem to actually say anything about that, was that something changed as well? Not wanting to admit when I'm uncomfortableness in pain?
"Honestly we should probably be more cautious about how these two species will interact within the human body. If they don't agree with you, and it seems they are taking to you quite well. The worst that would happen is us just having to remove your dead body and put you into something that they would both agree with." I could hear his daring voice trying to goad me into showing my fear and pain, and that just further solidified that my best choice was to stay silent about any sort of weakness at the moment.
"What if I stay dead?" I asked curious about what they do to failures, and since I seemed to be the last experiment I expected to hear something different than simply dump or burn the body and get another subject.
"Well then we'll just transfer you to something that is able to withstand the changes, or at least grow and adjust in response to them all." The man said and I growled in annoyance. Either way I was going to be a prisoner, and I didn't like that, at all. I must've been overworking myself because I found myself on the blank black plain darkness of unconsciousness once again.
--------------------
When I woke up I looked right and saw that the bags were completely empty, and the large multi-split tubes were now hanging against the walls with their tips gleaming a darker violet color. I noticed that the lights weren't onon XD again and I could see the color perfectly fine in this darkness.
Had I changed even more: I could see perfectly fine in the dark, I smelled things stronger than normally. Things like the old blood on the needles and in the bags, the chemicals used to clean the rooms, but for some reason I was extremely hungry.
I could hear the electricity in the wires now too, and I could feel where each was for some reason. Even through the thick concrete/metal reinforced walls. I looked down expecting to see my human feet and hands, but instead I saw two paws. Two dragon like appendages with five-inch dark black claws tipping each of the toes. I looked underneath me and breathed in relief as I smelled like I hadn't changed gender. Didn't know how I knew, but I knew that I was still female.
I was taller than what I had been when I was human, and I didn't even see any part of my human body anywhere. So I must've changed during my blackout, or whatever it was. I looked at my back and I saw two large wings connected to my shoulders, both of them being exact copies of each other. Now that I think about it why wasn't my body been read trained already, and how did I break out of the cuffs to be laying on my belly?
I noticed my whole body was faintly glowing a molten red color with hints of violet lines, I looked closer. The violet lines were my veins, and then they turned solid black, and then back to violet, and I barely kept myself from freaking out and cutting into my hand to see what color it came out. I would do that later, and not when I was in the middle of a crazy person's lair.
The door suddenly opened and I stopped studying myself as a light swept through the area nearest to the doorway. I glanced above myself up and saw that due to some new instincts, my tail had raised to be positioned above my head and my claws were digging into the metal, glowing slightly stronger than before.
I shook my head to refocus myself and looked back at the door as the guard stepped in flashing a beam of light coming from a black stick around. I think it was called a flashlight, and when he stopped on the table that I used to be on he froze. Yeah I had moved, you think I would've just sat there and waited as he burned out my eyeballs with that bright stick of light?! Ridiculous.
I looked down at the state of the table now lit up for me to see better. It was melted downwards. the straps were snapped off of the entire thing seemingly to brute strength, but it could've just been the pressure of my transformation being too much for the straps.
The metal cuffs were also in a sorry state, they looked like they, along with half of the table, was melted and burned away during my transformation. I had ripped out of the bottom ones due to pressure it seemed but that wasn't the most interesting thing at the moment.
I watched as he went over to the table and touched the bars, which were slightly glowing. He yowled in pain pulling his hand back while I barely kept myself from pouncing on the guy and ripping out his poor neck.
They did look hot so wouldn't the be hot you dumbass, and I watched as his light went around the room, first behind him and then clock-wise to the door, past my head for but a moment and halfway along the left wall. Then like it was an acted part the motion stopped and shot back to the spot I was, but I had moved and was standing right above him with my tail raised viciously.
His flashlight finished his search and he went to talk into his radio when I acted. I hissed and he stopped moving completely and looked up. His scream reverberated throughout the room shortly as my tail went through his throat. Killing him immediately.
I realized that I had struck like a scorpion, quickly in and out, with no warning. A clean kill and my tail was back to resting behind the rest of my body as if nothing happened. I stopped to think for a moment. I had just killed a human, sure they might've been involved with something that was above their pay grade, but I still had killed a person. And I felt nothing.
It was as if they were never there anymore and I felt nothing of my actions other than self-gratification and desire. I turned to the door and then looked back to the person, their face locked in a permanent moment of fear and I realized that he had a scanner for doors and other things probably to get out of the building with. I held the card in my paw, trying it to make sure it didn't touch any part of my skin of glowing scales.
I went towards the door, and it seemed to scan the card automatically and it clicked open allowing me to get out. I put a paw on the door and slowly pushed it open, thankfully it opened soundlessly. Then I stuck my head out and looked around vaguely aware that my tail was over my head again defensively. I could feel something hot in my mouth, bearable but hot and...rather comforting actually.
I stuck my head out and looked forwards, left, right, and back at the room before stepping out and throwing the badge in side of the room and I noticed that as it closed, the plastic started to reveal the burning stench of melted plastic as I broke into a run. The floor seemed to be melting with every step and with it I felt something gooey sticking to my claws, and paws, as I ran, but it wasn't burning me.
I looked down and realized that I must've been living, breathing fire or at least something close to that realization that's why it was comfortable with everything so far. I wasn't even trying to go anywhere in particular, I was just running aiming to go up. I didn't know where I was going, and when I smelled fresh, outside air and then I realized that my instincts must've been directing me out of this horrible place.
I could feel that I was closer with every step, and then the halls turned red, and a loud alarm blared, but I payed no attention to it as I ran towards freedom. Well that is until I was stopped by half of one of the last hallways having already been filled with masked soldiers aiming rifles towards me. I growled in annoyance as I saw that man within their ranks, slowly walking towards me.
Thanks for reading chapter 2 (part 3) of this remake. I hope that you all enjoyed the 3400+ words I used to make this.
Anyways it is past midnight, and I am practically falling asleep writing this small authors note.
See you next time — Time: 1:21 of April 28, 2022. 😜🙃
