Prologue (Rewrite)

~* Ink's POV *~

I was observing the multiverse within the DoodleSphere, patrolling the masses for any evil. Error hadn't been destroying anything recently, and that would've been a opening to one of my creation sprees to let out all that pent-up inspiration held back by stopping Error. Sadly, I was suffering from a sickness known as 'Lack of Motivation', uncurbable by medicine and could only be cured by waiting. Waiting wasn't one of my grand skills. Great timing, Error...

Despite not having a soul, I was bored. Incredibly so. It was just simple matinence checks, nothing fun or exciting about that. "Undertale, check. Outertale, check. Underfell, check." I swiped through portals, all showing normal and all boring to me. No spice or color in my eyesockets. My hand drifted over my vials. I had tried to drown out the bordem with viarities of feelings, but the lingering bordem stuck with me.

"Underswap, check. Storyshift, check. Littletale, check. Dreamtale, check. Axetale, check.--" My hand hesitated to go to the next. I swore I saw something... I quickly circled back to Dreamtale, leaning closer to the one-way portal to clarify if what I saw was just a trick of the eye. Nope, it was there. Clear as the starry Outertale skies.

It was something Dream and described as 'Nightmare's Apple'.

The pitch black apple laid on the ground, untouched. I could basically feel the negative aura from here. The bordem fizzed out. Taking the chance, I quickly gulped down a couple vials. The full feel of fake curiousity, joy, and slight nervousness graced me once more.

Making the portal two-way, I stepped through. Looking both ways as if on a street looking for danger, I quickly grabbed it and took it to the safety of the DoodleSphere. I didn't think there were any of these left! Nobody thought any of these were left! Everybody thought they were all hidden, eaten, or destroyed. (A lot of rumors and theories were spread around the multiverse over the years.)

Staring at the apple longer than I realized, I snapped back into reality. 'What do I do with this..?' I had taken it, the shock of actually finding one made me take it, probably because the multiverse didn't need a common enemy getting stronger. 'Sci will know! He's smart!' A childish smirk spread across my face. It kind of felt how a child would show a project they were proud of to another.

I opened a portal to in front of Sci's Lab, not wanting to barge in randomly, and betraying my newfound pep in my step. Knocking on the door to a simple tune, it only took a few moments for the door to open.

"Nice to see you Ink, what brings you here?" My grin only widened, holding the apple behind my back. "I happened to come across something rather interesting~..." I said, trailing off for extra emphasis. Waiting for a eyebrow-bone-thing raise, which did came, I revealed the apple.

Sci went wide-socketed, staring at the apple with a obvious emotion shift, no vials attached.... lucky bastard.... "I-is that... Nightmare's Apple?!" I looked at him, wasn't that obvious? "I... think so?" Maybe his question was rhetorical, because he ignored it completely.

"How did you find this?!" His expression turned to something next to Blueberry's, stars visible in his eyelights.

I gave him the apple, him examining every single inch of it. Shrugging, I said "I just did, it was on the floor, in Dreamtale." He looked back at me. "Do you realize what we can do with this?!" I looked at him, slightly confused. "No...?" Sci grabbed my shoulders, slightly jumping in place. "We can find a way to fix Nightmare!" I looked at him, adopting the sparkles in my eyelights as well.

Smacking my hands together, I began to formulate a plan. "That's it! If we help fix Nightmare, then his whole gang will go down! That leaves Error totally left alone. Sure, he barely interacts with the Nightmare Gang, but they're the ones who got them out of all those sticky situations! Sci, we could finally bring justice and peace to the WHOLE MULTIVERSE!"

He took me by the hand with the apple in the other, dragging me inside the Lab. "Come inside, Ink! We have a lot of work to do!"

x+Time skip through multiple days+x

I felt exhausted yet releived. Me and Sci had been working tirelessly for days, luckily no instances occurred that would drag either of us from our work. Me and Sci exchanged a smile. Through multiple button-pressing, percise-timing, and trial-and-Error, (pun intended) we had finally gotten results.

"I'd say... -huff- ...we'd celebrate but... -puff- ...we gotta tell everyone about this!" Regaining breath, and standing up from where we both took a break sitting, I grabbed my phone. "I'm gonna call a meeting, sterilize the needles and cap the vials!" Sci nodded, running off once again to get equipment while I quickly tapped on the phone.

'If I called a normal meeting, not many would show... maybe a level up? Nah, let's just do a emergency meeting instead? Yeah that sounds good.' Tapping out the text to everyone I knew, telling them to pass it on, I dashed to help Sci to make sure days of work weren't wasted.

It had only taken a minute to properly get a fair amount of the newly made antidote into two separate test tubes. Sci and I shared a high-five, him handling the tubes whilst I took the apple and made a portal to a vacant part of Dreamtale, the place we usually held all meetings.

As soon as I stepped through, the nuke of a million questions went off. Most of them wondering why the hell I called a emergency meeting. On the bright side, the desired ammount of people came. "Alright everyone, calm down!" I stood on top of Broomie so I could get a better view of everyone as well as everyone get a better view of me. Thankfully the barbombing of questions calmed down, replaced with murmurs here and there.

I smiled, it seemed like calming people down wouldn't be a hastle this time. "Me and Sci have created something that'll help us all!" Sci somehow found his way through the crowd, standing next to Broomie. "We've created something that should fix Nightmare, Dream's brother, into his passive state!"

Before the crowd could go bonkers again, Dream, who could now be identified amongst the crowd, said. "You have?!" I nodded, signaling Sci. "Y-yes, we beleive so. We've stored what we beleive to b-be the anitdote in this vial." Sci raised the vial, liquid sloshing within it. "If we inject him with this, t-the goop should completely dissapear, a-and he should return to his r-right mind."

The murmurs in the crowd began to raise in size and sound, but was quieted once again by Dream before they began again. "What if... it dosen't? What would happen to my brother..?" Me and Sci exchanged glances. "Well... we're not quite sure, but-" I was cut off by a worried Dream, even if his brother was a corrupted mess, he was still concerned. "Is there any way we can be sure? I only want him back, not some lonely shell of him if the antidote goes wrong. What if it's fatal?!" Well... he does have a point.

I put a hand to my chin, the action letting everyone know I'm thinking.

How can we be sure? Nightmare is a no-no for antidote testing.

No one else is like Nightmare...

I snapped my fingers, a smile coming across my face once more.

"Ah-hah! What if we test it on someone else that's not Nightmare instead?" Dream looked elsewhere, rubbing his elbow area. "But how? No one else in the multiverse is like Nightmare... he's his own special case." I chuckled, not sure to be sheepish or proud we had a plan developing. "Well... we may or may not have found... one... of... Nightmare's... Apples..." Everyone's gazes just made it feel more awkward for some reason. Was I supposed to tell everyone about it as soon as I found it?

Dream's eyesockets widened. "Wait, what?!" I looked back at him. Emotions were weird when you don't understand them, especially when some of them make situations even less understandable. "You heard me... right? I even have it right here!" I reached in my pocket, bringing out the apple. "No...way..." Dream's mutter was loud enough for me to hear. He looked back up to me, a bittersweet expression on his face. "This is perfect... but... who will be...?"

The atmosphere imedieantly became tense, all looking away while others raised their hoods. "Anyone..?" I looked around again. No one.

I lower the apple, a minor frown on my face. I know no one wants to volunteer, but this is Nightmare. All originals are cancelled out automatically, them being very important. I need someone that wouldn't make others worry if something went wrong. Someone everyone could easily forget. Or I could just pick favorites. Who do I hate...?

Perhaps Error...? He would obviously say no, being, well, him. Maybe we could... force him? It sounds evil, sure, but Error had done things worse than everyone in the multiverse combined. He obviously deserves this and much more. He won't have a choice.

"I got it. Alright Sci, let's go. I'll call another meeting with the results, promise." I hopped off of Broomie, pushing Sci through a portal back to the Lab.

Before I could leave with Sci, Classic spoke up. "Wait, Ink... Who are you going to ask?" I look back to him, smile still on my face. "Just a old... 'friend'..." Seeing no more questions were provided, I followed through the portal, closing it behind me.

As soon as it closed, Sci turned to me. "Who's going to be... 'it'?" I couldn't hold back a childish giggle as I said, "It's a surprise~!" I knew he'd back down when he'd realize we were going after 'The Destroyer', so it's best if I just... keep it a little secret. "Can you put the antidote in a needle? I'll work on extracting some... juice --I guess?-- from the apple." I grabbed my own needle, Sci nodding and going to get the other one he left out.

I leapt through the portal, Sci following me.

The white abyss was never to my appeal. Just so white... and bland... it was just a horrible place! The color code was horrible-- there wasn't any color code to begin with! I gritted my teeth, holding back from painting the hell out of this area, and forcing a smile to hide my annoyance from this stupid place. My hate for this area was unlimited.

"U-uh... where are we?" It seemed like Sci was intimated by this place. We both seemed to share negative emotions of this place, although not being similar. "Welcome to the Anti-Void, Error will be our test subject." I could hear him choke on air, almost dropping the vial. I patted his back, him calming down ever so slightly. "Calm down, it's not like he'll do anything with me around!" and winked.

~* Error's POV *~

I was knitting a new jacket, the last battle I had destroying the hood and some of the lower parts of it. I held my piece up into the nonexistent sunlight, taking off my old one and slipping on my new one. I smiled.

A chorus of voices judged my work, most saying crude things about it. "Y-yeAh, hAtE-e yOu ToO." I rolled my eyelights, I learned how to deal with them shortly after I confirmed insanity.

Ink hadn't been creating much recently, which gave me a bit to relax. The stupid rainbow asshole had three creative sprees this month, and the month wasn't even halfway done yet!

Footsteps. Huh, that's new. I never thought I could go more insane, guess I'm reaching new heights. I wonder if--

Something hard gripped my hands, putting them close together behind my back. A wet substance coated my wrists, quickly changing to solid and restraining movements as what felt like a shoe pushed against my spine. Tilting my head to the side, I looked to my captor.

Ink.

"wHaT D-dO yOU wAnT-t-T, SqUiD??" My facial expression made it clear I would tear him apart at any moment, yet he smiled. "Oh, I just need a volenteer for a little project we've been working on... Now Sci."

I felt someone I couldn't quite see with my current position rip my sleeve, much to my displeasure. "h-HeY! I wOrKeD haRd oN tHaT!" I wiggled a bit, now able to see Sci with a needle, whiping my bone with a sort of sanitizing whipe. It was obvious he was nervous in my presence, but Ink's own presence outdid mine.

Sci began to whipe the end of the syringe, positioning it to hit the sterilized bone with the needle slightly raised balkwards so he could add extra force to perce the bone. God I hate shots. Wait a second...

"wHaT-t tHE heLL aRe yOu D-dOiNG?!" I stared harder, as if that would help. I kinda hoped it would. "I-I'm sorry Mr.Destoyer Sir, try t-to stay still..." Sci tried to find a way to keep my arm still, me moving as much as I possibly can. Maybe I could just break my arm, then I won't have to do this! No... that would hurt... ShitWhatDoIDo?!

I looked back up to Ink, craning my head a bit out of the comfort zone as I continued to squirm. "H-hEy, wE cAn TaLk aBOuT t-ThiS, rIgHT?! I d-Don'T wAn'T pArT iN yOuR wEiRd... SciEnCy sHit... wAn'T mE tO sTop dEsTroYing FoR a BiT? i'LL sToP foR tWo... nO- tHrEe wEeKs!" I could see Ink roll his eyelights, looking back over to where Sci was. "Nope, continue Sci." I closed my eyes, not sure what to expect. "Oh, and Error?" I peeked my eyes open a bit, seeing Ink leaning over me, a smug grin on his face.

"This might hurt a bit."

I felt the sharp end of the syringe peirce my bones, feeling the needle curve around the inside of my being. I felt as the wet substance was pushed inside whatever bloodstream I had, infecting and burning every esence of me, spreading from my arm to the rest of me.

OhGodOhGodOhGodOhGodOhGodOhGod--

My hearbeat quickened, my soul thumping against my ribcage as it was taken over by the substance aswell, thumping harder as if it would get it off of it. It felt entoxicating.

NoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNo--

I felt as every atom was infected, aching, hammering against another as it wanted to grow. It wanted to infect more. It didn't care about my own limits, only theirs.

PleasePleasePleasePleasePleasePlease--

Everything hurt, thumping hard to the beat of my soul. God, oh god it hurt. When will it end? It feels like days to me, but how long have I actually been here? What did they do? Everything was reaching it's limits- my limits.

And then...

Everything split apart.

My being split, I felt as a thick liquid covered me.

I didn't even realize I was screaming until my throat was covered in the frosting-like substance, muting me. I didn't even realize I was crying until a curtian of goop covered my left eye, preventing it's use. I didn't even realize I gave in, until I began spasaming uncontrollably.

I feel like I'm choking.

I feel like I'm drowning.

I feel like I'm dying.

No.

It feels diffrent than that.

It feels...

I try to look back to them. Everything is sore. I look back anyways.

Ink looks unfazed by this, and that only made me try to fight back more, despite their science experiment already complete. I squirm to the best of my limits, weird limbs on my back also doing their best to assist me. It was barely half a minute for me to wear out in this sore, weak form.

I try to at least spat a insult at this stupid squid. The tar in my throat prevents me to. I try to give him a angry glare. I only got half a glare out, and that half looked tired. I try to rekindle my ability to fight. I don't seem to be able to muster the willpower.

I could only weakly look up at Ink.

And it infuriated me.

Still, I held my gaze, I'm not letting him have the upper hand.

Even if he already had it.

I won't.

Ink passed Sci another needle, Sci, snapping out of his shaken state, began sterilizing this one too. "Pffft. Didn't think I'd see the day you'd give that reaction." My gaze hardened. "This should change ya' back. Wonder if it'll hurt more or less. You'll have to tell me!" I could see Sci shake a bit in the corner of my eye... But...

I don't want to turn back.

I began controlling my breathing, getting a hold of myself. I swayed these things on my back once. They responded. I swayed again. They swayed slightly more furiously. I stopped.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Breathe in.

Attack.

The limb's tar like form rearanged to sharper ends, and in a split second, Ink was impaled.

I stood up, throwing Ink a few feet away with my newfound power. He let out a sharp, jagged breath of pain as he skidded to a stop with gravity's assitance. It felt good to get that stupid artist back. I would've laughed if my mouth... wasn't.... NEVERMIND-!

I heard Sci scream behind me, frozen in panic. "Sci!" Sci turns to Ink, who is now standing with a portal ready besides him. "Run." Listening to Ink, Sci ran, dropping everything. I look at the dropped syringe, picking it up. I feel Ink become terrified with whatever left of a soul he had keeping him alive. I smiled.

Ink took a step forward, silently debating what to do before I decided to do something while I did some of my own. Winning my small debate before Ink, I crushed the vial. I threw the contents away, the few drops that stuck to me slightly stinging before dissapearing. "NO!"

Sci grabbed Ink, dragging him through the portal before he had a chance to do anything else, the portal closing.

I stood there for a moment, trying to rub the substance off my eye. Heh. As if my eyesight wasn't bad enough. The goop covered it up before I had the chance to even blink. I groaned through the tar-like curtain covering my mouth, barely audible.

"Oh, wow. Is that a corrupted apple I sense?" I turn, seeing Nightmare with a portal closing behind him. I look at him, an unamused glare. "Seems you've had some... changes." He started to circle me, I kept my unamused look but kept my one eye on him. "No comments?" I grumble through the mouth goop, but it came out less than a whisper.

Nightmare raised whatever eyebrow he had. "Can you... even speak?" I roll my eye, letting out the loudest annoyed sigh I could, gestering to my clearly visible goopy plug in my mouth. "That's a good point." He stopped infront of me.

"Seems you're in need of assitance." I knew the line by now. Everytime he said this or something alike, it was his way of saying 'Your help for mine.' I nodded, looking at him for the 'What's your condition?' part. "You can stay around the Mansion, I could help you with your new... attatchments, and other things that came with the whole 'Corrupted Apple Package'. And in return, you help out with our missions. Hell, you could join if you desire, and make it permanent until you resign."

I swore, he'd ask the 'Join us.' since day one. Both me and him common enemies of the multiverse's whims and similar 'hobbies' probably keep on making him think I'd say 'yes'. He'd obviously left the 'joining the team' part as optional, because he knew I'd refuse. Atleast he was finnaly getting the point.

I nodded.

"Perfect. Follow me." Nightmare opened the portal once again, leading me into my temporary living space.

Let's just say... I'm still not sure if that desion was great... or horrible.

((Hello guys! I was planning on putting the rewrite of the Prologue and Chapters 1 and 2 into one full chapter like I did with the original, but I'm so good at making things long and detailed, it kinda got out of hand. All of this (Without the A/N here) Is about 3,500 words compared to the original story, which was about 2,500 words together, prologue, chapters, all. As you can see, this took me 2 amazing days to write this.

I just started online camp today, and it'll go on for some days, so this'll be a bit longer than normal to write the rewrites. I remade the 'Corrupted Error' a bit, reference sheet below. I know my writing is a bit messy when I don't care so I'll make translations below.

Dark Cyan - This side more goopy, especially the place injected (Tears on this side also slightly goopy.)

Dark Purple - Less goopy, not near ejected area (Added : Still goopy, but just a little more put-together.

Here is a full blown Corrupted Error, and that's gonna be the cover I finished today also.

(I like to think his mouth goop might be from his many tongues lol.  Error's tongues always were fun to play with on my side, whether it be for reactions or fun can-eat-anything, always fun to write about.)

Anyways, see ya until the next update!!!  <3 ))
