8- Top floor

After our little dramatic moment, we decided to go stand check out my room. We had to wait a few minutes for an elevator as there where so many students trying to get to their floors. But, we finally stepped into an elevator with three other people, and hit the button with the number 7. Floors 2,4 and 5 where lit up before us, but as one of the perks of being a member of the society, the elevator went to our floor first. We stepped out into a similar hall as Peter's, only there was just one door, labeled #17. I grabbed the handle and opened the door slowly.

My eyes widened and I swear I could feel my jaw dropping a but, as I saw what was inside. The living room was as big as my house, no wonder there was only one room on the floor. The kitchen was as big as Peter's entire dorm! One of the living room walls was made of glass, looking over the ocean. There was an electric fire, set in a sheet of glass in another wall. Water ran down the glass in front of the fore on each side. As I looked through the fire place, I realized that there was another room right behind it. I looked up and saw a wooden door, rushing over and opening it.

Inside was a large bedroom. The wall at the front shared the fireplace with the living room. The walls looked like they where also made of thick glass. There was a small dial with a colour wheel on the side of the wall. I turned it slightly, jumping back in surprise as the walls shimmered. Then, they settled down and I realized they had changed colours. The room now had walls coloured a medium grey.Peter and I never said a thing. We just kept exploring in aw, for close to an hour. There was so much to look at. Every piece of furniture surprised me again and again.

In total, there where two bathrooms, a lounge, a kitchen, a living room and a work space in the hall. The ceiling was high, ten feet at least. And the air seemed almost fresher inside then it was in the forest. Everything matched, a modern white colour with a black trim. If made me feel quite out of place. It was beautiful, but so modern. In my house nothing matched, and it made it feel very cozy. But here, I was so small in the massive place.

"I guess this is what she meant by they have a surprise for me." I said with a nervous laugh. Peter smiled.

"Let's check out our schedules." He said.

"Okay. I'll bring mine down in a few minutes." I responded. Peter nodded and left to go retrieve his schedule.

I was more then happy to get out of the room. I'd get more familiar with it, but for now, it was a little too much.

I picked up the envelope on the table, knocking a small object over as I did so. I bent over to pick it up, realizing it was a small, silver key. If would probably lock my room. It wasn't like I would need it. Nobody was crazy enough to break into a society member's room. Still, I slipped it into my pocket and opened my envelope. Inside was a thick piece of paper, containing my timetable.

It was arranged in columns and rows by date and time. Today, Tuesday, we where meant to explore a bit until lunch. Then teachers would do a tour of your classes and get to know you. At seven thirty, diner was brought to your rooms and lights out was at ten.

Alright then. Let's explore. I said to myself. I folded the paper into squares and stuffed it into my back pocket with my key. I locked the door and waited for the elevator once more.

The ride down felt allot longer, as the nervousness sunk in once more. Today I would be meeting members of the society. ACTUAL members, not just the ones at the ceremonies. They would be teaching me what to do. They would be judging me, and telling me what I would need to do differently. I would need to put on my best face for them.

I knocked on Peter's door and entered. He was sitting on the couch, reading his own schedule.

"Hey" he greeted meekly, focused on his paper.

"Hey. So what do you have first?" I asked him.

"Well, I'm supposed to go explore the place or something for a bit. Then I meet my class and teachers. I think." He said.

"Me too. Maybe we can find Skyler." I suggested.

Peter nodded and we made our way downstairs, venturing down the hallways for a bit, peeking into rooms with open doors. We say a girl unpacking her things, a group of teens giggling and jumping excitedly in a circle, a boy crying in a corner, mumbling about a break up and much more.

We ran away down the hall, laughing about what we had seen.

"Did you see that totally cute guy? He was like totally into me." I mimicked one of the girls.

"Ew! Emma, he's like a brother to me!" Peter played along in a strangely high pitched sing song voice.

"What in god's name have you turned into?" Skyler's confused voice appeared out of no where.

We turned to see her standing in the open doors of the elevator. All three of us burst out laughing at the situation. It was a running joke that she always caught us spying, stealing and sneaking around.
