7- An Introduction
Soon enough, the school came into view. It was enormous. Probably as big as my block. It was split into two, white buildings. One fore residence and one for classes. The bus pulled into a large parkinglot, and we all got out, looking wide eyed at the school. Our bags where unloaded and left in a pile. I dug around in the pile for a moment before pulling out Peter's bag, then mine. Just then, a woman rushed over, wearing a dark blue skirt and top. Her dark red hair matched her lipstick and was pulled up in a high ponytail.
"Welcom!" She sang as she approached us.
"My name is Sifa Flemming, and I am the school supervisor. Please form a lign and I will give you your dorm numbers." She finished with an over enthusiastic grin.
Peter and I managed to get into the front part of the lign, however it still took a few minutes before she reached us. She scanned her list for Peter's name
"Ah, here you are. Room 311, third floor. There will be a schedule, on the table for you." She waved him off, before turning to me.
"Oh, Cora. Wonderful to meet you. We've got quite a nice treat for you. Room 17, top floor." She said, once more with her signature smile.
I thanked her awkwardly and walked away quicker then I should have. I couldn't properly explain the feeling of distrust building inside of me, but I guessed it was because of the unnatural angle of her mouth.
"Let's go see yours first." I said to Peter as we entered the building.
Everything was very futuristic use and automatic. The walls where pure white and looked like either plastic or glass. The floors where made of similar materials, just cut into tiles. The doors where a slightly darker shade and stood out from the plain corridors.
At the front of the building was a sort of help desk. Behind it was a long hallway, with dorm rooms on each side. We walked down the hall to the end, where we found an elevator. We entered and found a panel with buttons, ranging from 1 to 7. Peter pressed number 3 and the elevator started to climb. The doors opened a second later and we stepped out to see a similar hallway, only with different room numbers. We quickly found number 311 and Peter opened the door.
Inside was a large room with a fully equipped kitchen, a table and chairs and large windows.
"This is so awesome!" I exclaimed as we stepped inside. I looked around the corner and saw two mor doors. I opened one to find a small washroom, while through the other, there was a large, blue bed, bedside table and various dressers and closets. We walked around the place, opening drawers and testing things out. Then Peter made us two cups of tea and we drank it on the couch, looking out the windows. The other side of the building had a beautiful view of the ocean, and could watch the sun rise in the morning, while Peter's side looked out on the city
The cars zipped along the streets so fast they just looked like streaks of light. The hoverpass was in the background, far away, where not many people could pick it out with so much movement in the city. But it was there. I could just make our where it started, right at the edge of the forest, near the ocean. The society said it was made to scare away the animals, and so people could travel without the problem of getting lost. But there where some people who thought it might have been created for another purpose. Maybe I'd find out, now that I was going to join the society.
We sat in silence, both admiring the view, before I finally spoke.
"How do you think we'll turn out, after all this? Where will we be?" I wondered out loud.
Peter set down his cup, and stood up. He gestured that I follow him. He led me to a mirror, and we just looked at it for a moment. It seemed like he was going to say something poetic and emotional, about how Id always be the same person, just so long as the mirror was working, or something like that. Like they did in the movies. But then I felt his hand brush against the back of my neck...
As he put my hair up in a tight bun.
It was funny how something so simple could be so realistic. I looked exactly like a member of the society. I giggled and he joined in.
"Don't forget about that stunning platinum suit you'll be wearing." He added.
"Me, I'll probably be saving some little boys life, after some horrific hover booting accident." He said with pride. I could't picture him being mature enough to even egg through schooling, let alone save someone's life.
