Chapter 8 (Part 4)

In the meantime, inside the chamber, where Jean and Christina speak, the torches cast an unbearable heat upon the room. The rising temperature causes sweat to stream from Jean's face as he steps back from Christina. Meanwhile, the henchman stands on the side of the earthen throne and watches the exchange between Jean and Christina.

"Surely, your twin brother wasn't evil at all. He was just corrupted by the darkness that surrounded him!" Jean reasoned. "Yet, it wouldn't change the fact he killed innocent people in the past and never repented from it!"

"Those innocent people, those bastards, you're talking about weren't innocent! They all played a part in ruining Joel's life!" Christina argued as she stepped closer to Jean.

Jean stepped away from Christina as their eyes locked in a quivering gaze. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry! But don't follow his path! Like your brother who also wanted to change, as you said, you can change, too! Don't let evil take over you!" said Jean.

"Justice isn't evil. And what I'm doing is justice," Christina growled.

"Hurting someone who defended himself against a killer isn't justice!" Jean asserted confidently, furrowing his eyebrows and clenching his fists.

"My brother isn't a killer!" Christina grumbled. Turning from Jean, Christina pointed at him and glanced at her henchman. "That's it! Henchman!"

"Yes, Christina?" the henchman responded, leaping on his toes.

"Kill him!" Christina ordered.

"W-what...!?" Jean gasped in disbelief.

"With pleasure~" the henchman replied, stepping towards Jean.

"Wait! No!" Jean pleaded with glistening eyes.

The henchman snatches a long, gleaming sword from the sheath of his belt and points it towards Jean. Meanwhile, Jean steps back, avoiding the pointy blade. The henchman grins, tilting his head.

"This would be fun," the henchman whispered.

Hurriedly, Jean seizes his sword from the sheath on his back and swings it. Then, the henchman bolts towards Jean and thrusts his weapon towards him. Jean immediately sidesteps, narrowly avoiding the sharp blade. He then strikes, warding off the henchman.

The two clash as their blades meet, and the energy within the room intensifies with the rising heat. The henchman slashes his sword, poised to hit Jean in the head. Swiftly, Jean reacts and blocks the incoming attack, pushing the blade away.

Meanwhile, Christina revels with a sadistic delight in watching the fight between Jean and her henchman. A smirk spreads across her face as she raises her chin and closes her eyes halfway through. Slowly, she lowers herself to her throne and sits on its smooth surface. She then crosses her legs and observes the ongoing battle.

In the corridor leading to the chamber, Josephine walks along, still holding the wooden plank against Vangelle's throat and pulling her hair, followed closely by Oliver and Gregory. As Vangelle is left with no choice but to lead Oliver, Josephine, and Gregory, she guides them to a broader chamber where they see a throne. And there, they witness Jean battling Christina's henchman with a glistening sword.

As Jean charges towards the henchman, he misses a shot and slices the red curtain instead, causing it to fall and drape over the chamber. The curtain rod then hits one of the torches, and like a domino, the pillars of flames collapse, spilling over and engulfing the fallen curtain. A smouldering fire spreads in the chamber, shrouding the air with thick smoke.

Within seconds, the chamber has transformed into a painting reminiscent of hellish inferno. The fire has rapidly expanded, swallowing every blood-red curtain inside the room. A cloud of black smoke has swallowed the area, almost blinding everyone's sight. Nevertheless, despite the surrounding danger, Jean and the henchman continue their clash and charge towards one another.

Oliver quickly hurries towards Jean, seeking to help his son. However, Christina spots his hasty figure amidst the smoke and snaps her fingers with a smirk, casting a spell. Oliver slips to the ground, struck by a searing pain.

"Ah!"

Oliver groaned in misery as the agony threatened to consume him. Seeing Jean fighting someone and Oliver down pulled Gregory along, prompting him to trail behind. But, Christina spotted him, giving her no choice but to inflict a curse upon him as well. Gregory fell to the floor, almost hitting his head against the ground.

Mustering her confidence, Josephine let go of Vangelle, allowing her to escape the burning lair, and charged towards Christina, poised to attack her. However, amidst her sprint, she heard a yelp, causing her to pause. She looked at the centre of the chamber. And there, he saw Jean, his left cheek sliced by the henchman's sword.

A cold wave of chills hastened down Jean's body as he felt a cut on his left cheek. Blood trickled from his wound as he moved back with fear. Jean touched his wound and glanced at his finger, seeing a shade of crimson painting his skin. As Jean was distracted by his injury, the henchman hit his sword, causing it to soar away.

Disarmed, Jean watches in disbelief as his sword flies to the other side of the room. He then looks at the henchman with wide eyes. Meanwhile, the henchman approaches Jean with a sinister smirk. Suddenly, the henchman feels a harrowing pain in the back of his head. Then, he collapses—as if he were knocked unconscious.

Behind the henchman, Josephine stands with a wooden plank in her hands. It turns out that she hit him with the plank. Panting, she glares at the fallen henchman as she gnashes her teeth.

"Screw a mother's child, and the mother will screw you a hundred times worse," Josephine remarked.
