Chapter 5 (Part 5)

Josephine rises from the floor, her knees straining, and stands beside Gregory. She then glances at Gregory in the eyes while he peers intently at Oliver. Inhaling deeply, Josephine and Gregory's gazes converge upon Oliver, a sense of worry reflecting on their faces.

"Let's bring you to your room so you may rest," Josephine suggested, her voice bashful and meek.

Reaching forward, Josephine and Gregory loop their arms around Oliver's fragile frame, their elbows intertwining. Grunting, Oliver winces his eyes and stands up, summoning every ounce of stamina within him. With their arms locked, Oliver, Josephine, and Gregory stride towards the lobby and up the grand staircase with careful and precise steps. Meanwhile, Kevin and Gabriel stay inside the dining room, watching Oliver, Josephine, and Gregory depart. With faint breaths, they exchange worried glances as their brows furrow.

Upon reaching Oliver's bedroom, Gregory extended his fingers and twisted the doorknob. He then pushed the doorway open and passed through alongside Oliver and Josephine. Crossing the threshold, Oliver took a sharp breath through his mouth, his teeth clenching.

Carrying Oliver in their arms, Josephine and Gregory led Oliver towards the bed. And there, they placed him beneath the warm cover of the mattress, providing him comfort and heat. Oliver laid his head on the pillow, his body sinking into the plush surface. With a trembling breath, Oliver closed his eyes and took a moment to relax, seeking a momentary respite from the situation.

As Oliver opened his eyes, he glanced at Josephine and Gregory and addressed them with a soft, delicate voice. "Please, be safe... and follow Jean before he harms himself..."

Josephine and Gregory glance at each other in the eyes. Despite yearning to save Jean from peril, a sense of trepidation shocks their core, hastening from their heads to their spines. They refuse to leave Oliver alone, yet they know they must set forth immediately to catch up with Jean. Left with no choice, Josephine and Gregory offer Oliver a silent farewell through a polite nod before turning from the room and closing the door with a faint slam.

Alone in his bedroom, Oliver sees the opportunity to ponder and seizes it. Underneath the blanket, he enters into a profound state of introspection as he closes his eyes. The warm flickering candlelight surrounding Oliver casts a faint glow upon his skin as he contemplates his existence in this tragic world. Breathing in through his nose and releasing a heavy breath through his mouth, Oliver opens his eyes and gazes at his bedroom, his glance wandering.

Oliver wonders if he should trust Jean's word when he says he will reach the next century, though he believes his death is near. Yet, he cannot do anything but remain motionless on the bed and accept his fate. With his breath turning more composed, he ponders how his family's lives will be if his soul departs from his earthly vessel so soon.

Mustering his remaining strength, Oliver flings the blanket off his body and slithers towards the edge of the bed. Then, with a grunt, he stands up, his eyes wincing in pain. Turning towards his desk, Oliver walks forward and pulls a chair. And there, he reclines and takes a moment to rest his heavy eyes.

Amidst an ocean of books on the side of the desk, Oliver leans forward and grabs a thick tome with a red cover and gilded lettering. Flipping the pages open, Oliver's eyes dart towards the sheet and scan the word. He then peruses the book, engrossed by the vast ocean of words.

"In the fallout of his family's assassination... Oliver Podeshire bore the burden of a life filled with labour under the sovereignty of his first adoptive parents. He then entered an arranged marriage devoid of love, and when he defied his fate, he was cast out. In a desperate escape, he stumbled upon his family's assassins, but with perseverance, he claimed what he rightfully deserved..." Oliver read silently, his eyes examining the words. Flipping the page, he ventured, "A year later, after a pivotal change in his life, he faced a wave of battles against the Pyrovoidians, saving Asbranne and the world from doom. This led to people yearning for him, yet he refused to marry until he slowly longed for his devoted companion, which eventually paved the way to a passionate civil union." Oliver paused, catching his breath. "Soon, he was summoned by world leaders to mend the ravages of catastrophes with his sole elemental powers. And soon... he created a family. However, amidst the merriment, one of his sons, Jean, fell victim to kidnapping. Driven by his paternal duty, he rescued him..." he read, and with a satisfying conclusion, he closed the tome.
