Chapter 55
I'm not going to lie, although the 2 weeks helped I'm definitely super tired. It's ok though cause I plan to at least post for a month before thinking of going on break again.
Now on with this week's chapter!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Now that your exams are settled I'm sure you know what's next?" Shota asked his class.
"Hell ya, it's training camp time!" Denki pumped his fist into the ait in excitement.
"But before that, you'll have a parent-teacher meeting. Iida, hand these out to everyone," Shota said as he handed the papers to him. "It'll happen next week on Monday. For those whose parents might not be able to attend, tell me in advance. If they can't attend for any unavoidable reason I'll either set a time to meet up with them or have a file with all the info for them to read."
"Um, sir it says here we'll be able to leave with our parents?" Some others nodded at Kyoka's questions a little confused themselves.
"Yes once the meeting is over you're allowed to leave early with and only with your parents. That doesn't mean those whose parents aren't coming don't have to come, I'm sure the staff will appreciate any help they can get on that day."
Iruka walked into the classroom and looked curiously at how everything had been placed. She noticed earlier in the halls that there were chairs lined up outside, most likely for the waiting parents that would arrive soon. In her classroom, most of the tables had been pushed to the back of the wall, some chairs placed in the centre and two in front of her teacher's desk.
Most of her classmates were already there, bustling about as usual.
"Ohayo everyone." Iruka chimed. A few replies later and Iruka sat herself down onto an empty chair.
"Iruka are your parent's coming, Kero?"
"Oh no no, they're too busy so Aizawa-Sensei is going to have that meeting another time." And by another time Iruka meant later in the afternoon once all her other teachers were done with Paren-Teacher day so they could all have one big discussion together. Iruka rolled her eyes at the thought. Not like they don't talk about their students among themselves anyways. "What about you Tsu?"
"My mom is going to try pop by later on but she wasn't quite sure so I gave Aizawa Sensei the heads up." Iruka hummed. She offered to have her help around the school. Notifying teachers, help grade papers for the teachers who didn't have homeroom.
Iruka herself would be in the class helping Shota with whatever he needed but she was mostly there to notify her classmates that their parent or parents have arrived. Because they weren't required to wait in the classroom until their guardians arrived most of the students ended up roaming the school or training since training grounds were still open.
The first parent that came in was Tenya's parents. Both well dressed and Iruka wouldn't have expected otherwise. Tenya had an eerie resemblance to his mum but definitely acted more like his dad.
When Iruka wasn't doing much, she would walk around getting to know her classmates' parents. It was certainly an experience. Denki's mum had been what one could call a tiger mum. Intimidating and very protective of her son. Koji's father was talkative and very heartwarming.
Whenever Iruka was asked, she happily told fun stories of her classmates to their parents. The good ones of course. She wasn't going to risk accidentally making their parent's worry after all.
Before long Iruka saw a familiar pair. She asked just to make sure it was them before texting Eijiro. His mums recognized Iruka immediately which only made her stomach flutter for some reason.
"Iruka Ito right?" One of them asked. She had long black hair tied in a ponytail which made Iruka wonder what Eijirou would look like having his hair tied up like that.
"Oh uh yes, I'm your son's classmates."
"He's talked a lot about you and your class. I'm glad he's getting along well." Eijirou's other mother said with a toothy smile.
"He gets along with everyone best actually."
Eijirou arrived at their class a little bit after, Katsuki tailing him. They must've been training together again.
"Hey Ma, Mum." Eijirou hugged his parents before he told them he'd hang out in class until it's their turn.
"Woah Kirishima are those your parents?" Hanta asked genuinely curious.
"Oh uh ya."
"They're so coooool!" Mina exclaimed.
"I can see where you get your hair from." Fumikage glanced over at Eijirou's mum with bright red hair.
"Oh no no, my natural hair colour is black but Mum dyed her hair with me."
"Damn dude, what's it like with two mums?" Denki wondered.
"Pretty cool actually. Had a really hard time trying to not mix up Ma and Mum when I was younger. Oh and constant teasing."
"Doesn't sound any different from having two dads." Iruka chuckled lightly not realising what she had said.
"You have two dads?" It was Kyoka's turn to ask. Katsuki could see how Shota tried to look their way.
"Uhh ya..." Iruka bit her lip hoping she didn't just screw herself over. "That's not weird is it?"
"Is it supposed to be?" Shoto interjected.
"I uh I mean no?" Shoto raised his eyebrow as if asking 'Then?'
"But don't you get exhausted by the number of dad jokes?" Hanta joked.
"I'm sorta used to it at this point I guess. I think Papa word vomits dad jokes at work so I usually hear it from Dad. That man has no clue how to make dad jokes and it shows." Iruka pointedly ignored Shouta's death glare.
"Ok, but how bad are they?" Mina asked.
"What's a good dad joke?"
"None," Shoto deadpanned sending the class into a fit of laughter.
==========
When Inko arrived she was an immediate class favourite. Izuku and Iruka didn't shy away from telling all sorts of stories about their mother (because of course, Inko is as much of a mother to Iruka as she is to Izuku). Even Katsuki (who had opted to hang around class ever since Eijirou left) had stories of his own to tell.
"When did you make cookies with Mom*? You're never at Izuku's house."
"Ya neither are you!" Katsuki retorted. "Every time you nerds had sleepovers at your place I'd drop by to keep auntie company because you obviously didn't."**
"How did you know when we weren't home though. That's creepy."
"No it isn't! Auntie texts me when you're out. Can't you just drop it?"
At some point everyone who was lingering in class surrounded Inko in the hall where she waited, listening to even more stories. Shouta took the opportunity to have a subtle break.
Upon Mitsuki's arrival chaos broke out. Mina was the first to ask her for stories of Katsuki and with each one fits of laughter echoed through the halls.
Unfortunately, the laughs and giggles didn't last long. Enji Todoroki walked through the halls and a deathly silence blanketed them. Many of the class that had lingered for stories bolted out of the class to who knows where. Shouta let out a sigh. Enji was the person he did not want to deal with today.
Iruka sat near the door, a notebook in hand as she stared daggers into Endeavour's back. He was asking about Shoto's progress in school and Iruka didn't like the vibe he was letting of. It felt wrong. It felt like he was ready to be violent for whatever reason. Shouta must've noticed because he threaded very carefully when answering Endeavour's questions.
Shoto just sat there, head hung low looking like he was ready for yelling or worse.
"What is he like during training?" Ooo a dangerous question. One that made Shoto flinch ever so slightly.
"He's doing very well, building up his control on both aspects of his quirk as well as learning to work in a team which-"
"Why is he working in teams? Is he not capable of doing exercises by himself?" Endeavour snapped which ultimately got a glare from Shouta.
"He is very much capable at working on his own but more often than not a hero is required to team up with one another so working in teams for an exercise should not sound so absurd to you."
"He's striving to be the number one and the number one doesn't require teamwork. Have you seen All Might working with a team?" Shouta's blood was boiling. Iruka was seething in her chair, trying so hard not to interfere.
"Yes, I have actually. Being the top hero does not mean you cannot rely on others. I have seen more than once All Might teaming up with many other heroes, myself included so if you think a hero does not require help when taking down a villain I suggest you get your reality checked." Shota snapped. It was becoming a glaring war, one that Endeavour was very obviously losing.
"Very well if we are done here I shall be taking Shoto home now." He looked hesitant, more so than usual. He must think something is going to happen.
"Actually Mr Todoroki, Shoto is still assisting me with things here at UA so he won't be leaving with you," Shouta stated surprising Iruka and Shoto.
"You have many other people to help you with. Come on Shoto." Shoto whispered a thank you, bowing to Shouta before he follows his father out.
"Be careful with your words Endeavour," Iruka growled as they left.
"You know something, don't you?" Shouta asks.
Iruka walks over with a raised eyebrow. "I think we both know there doesn't have to be a reason to dislike Enji Todoroki."
"But your dislike for him is different. So care to tell me why?"
"It's not my place to tell you." Shouta sighs for the umpteenth time that day.
"I'm trusting your judgement on this Iruka because if anyone is in danger for whatever reason you would do whatever it takes to help them."
"No one is in danger. Don't worry." Shouta hums and asks Iruka to call in the next parent.
==========
Once her dad was done with his class Iruka walked around the school waiting for the other teachers to finish.
When they did, the discussion they had was more than interesting. It definitely wasn't an unusual discussion. A teacher talking to their student's parents. Except the difference was her parents were also her teachers. Not just Hizashi and Shota but actually the entire UA staff could be considered her parents. So the discussion was, interesting so to say.
It was a little amusing watching the teachers discuss without being biased. There were some that brutally wreck Iruka, like Shota and Sora*** but Iruka didn't mind it much. Sometimes you just needed a good smack in the face by reality. That is of course until her grades were brought up. It was as though Iruka was swimming but barely kept her head up. She isn't a straight-A student and never was but didn't make it hurt any less when she heard directly from her teachers just how much she could improve.
Sometimes when you hear how much you could improve you push yourself to actually improve. Other times it makes you realise you haven't been doing enough to get better. Iruka's brain unfortunately chose to think of the latter. Sending her into spirals, wondering how much she could've improved with all the help she had gotten before finals.
There was the rational side of her brain reminding her that the fact her grades were even that high after so much going on in the year is incredibly impressive.
Iruka let out a sigh once the meeting was over. She could finally drag herself out of her thoughts into conversations with the staff members, keeping herself busy. Contemplating whether she did enough was left for another time.
*Ok so if you're a long time reader you'll know Iruka actually calls Inko Auntie in earlier chapters buttttt I plan on changing that in the re-write and it was meant to be brought up later on in the fic but I didn't know the opportunity was here so ya.
**I love the idea of Katsuki and Inko still being close even after his and Izuku's fallout
***Another OC from tik tok, by @ carlychrisfarley
This was the only middle ground of an ending I could write in time. I wanted to add more both to this chapter and the one before but I never figured out what, definitely something to think up for the rewrite
I just realised my grammar in this chapter is present tense (。ŏ_ŏ). I blame the other story I'm working on /hj.
Ah, so school is starting up for me so that's exciting (read:terrifying). My mind is sorta blanking as I type this even though I had so much to tell you all.
Anyways, thanks for being patient with me. If you enjoyed this chapter leave a vote and/or comment, either are highly appreciated.
Have a lovely day, night, weekend, wherever, whenever you are.
Stay safe,
Bye Lovies~
