Chapter 33
"Hey Shinso, do you think your quirk works with sign language?"
"No I don't think it does, want to try?" They had only a few days left until the sports festival. Everyday for almost 2 weeks both Hitoshi and Iruka had trained before and after school. Often times training hand-to-hand after school.
During this time Iruka had also been slowly teaching Hitoshi sign language. He was curious as to how Iruka knew it so well but she wouldn't tell. Hitoshi asked Iruka a simple question and when given a reply in sign nothing happened.
"Guess it has to be a vocal response." Iruka sighed.
"Shouldn't you two be heading to class?" Shota asked. It was rare for him to loiter around after morning training but to say he wasn't curious about the possibilities of Hitoshi's quirk would be an understatement. He found it rather intriguing. "Don't forget about later's training."
"We never do. See you then Aizawa sensei." Hitoshi waved at the man. He'd been opening up more, though still very reserved in classes he was fairly social with Shota and a few members of 1-A.

The bell had just rung and Iruka was about to go find Hitoshi when she noticed a crowd outside the door.
"What is everyone doing here?" She questioned, looking around. Some of the people there she recognised as members of class 1-B and 1-C.
"They're scouting the competition because we're the students that survived a villain attack." Katsuki scoffed. "But I ain't here to be gawked at so move it extras." He tried to push through but was wacked in the head.
"Don't go calling people names Kacchan." Iruka scolded. She looked around trying to find a way to get out.
"Do all of you act this snobby or is it just the ones that think they're going to win?" A blond from 1-B asked.
"Huh? I'll win the sports festival and I'll leave all of you in the dirt." Katsuki looked ready for a fight and Iruka knew someone had to do something and fast.
"Ok ok that's enough. I don't know why all of you decided to block our way out but some of us have a train to catch and if you don't move right now I'm jumping out that window." Iruka said, pointing towards the open window. Some of them looked surprised and others looked rather worried. Luckily they got the hint that she wasn't joking and moved out of the way.
============
"Hey you ok kid?" Shota asked the stupid question. Of course she wasn't ok, today was the day of the sports festival and Iruka wasn't one for crowds.
"F-fine, just ner-nerves is all." Iruka sputtered out. Even after training so hard she still wasn't ready, not even close to it. She's felt nervous but never this nervous. It's probably because the damn world would be waiting.
"Well if you need anything and I mean anything at all, we'll be in the announcer's booth." Hizashi spoke out. Sure he didn't show it but he was pretty worried about Iruka's mental health at this point. She almost looked like she was sweating bullets but in reality she wasn't.
"I still wonder how Nezu let you become the announcer, especially after that one time a student complained about how their ears were bleeding off." Iruka laughed.
"That's pretty much the only reason why I'll be in the announcer booth." Shota sighed. "To keep him in check." All it took was the small joke for Iruka to burst into a fit of giggles. Hizashi and Shota smiled, at least she didn't look ready to crawl into a pit and die anymore.
"I think I should get going, Kacchan promised to do my hair in braids today." As bad as Iruka was at doing her own hair she absolutely loved getting it styled, specifically by Katsuki. The blond was just good at too many things.
As promised, on the train ride there, Katsuki braided Iruka's hair as she and Izuku chatted their nerves away occasionally getting the "You'll be fine dumbass," comments from Katsuki.
"We should head to the waiting room." Iruka said. The room merely had Momo, Tenya, and Shoto. It was still pretty early on so there weren't any surprises there. Izuku and Iruka started chatting with Momo and Tenya while the other two opted to sit on their own, most likely getting rid of their nerves in their own odd way.
Soon the room was filled with the chatter of class 1-A. Some discussing how it would go, others giving each other pep talks. Iruka was passing around earplugs she had bought the day she knew her papa was going to be an announcer. "Your ears will thank me later." She said as she passed them around.
"Midoriya,"
"Uh Todoroki-kun, is there something you need?" Izuku questioned.
"From an objective standpoint I am stronger," Izuku nodded nervously, not understanding what Shoto was getting at. "However you have the number one hero backing you up. I won't try to pry what's going on between you two, but just so you know I will be beating you."
Everyone had been listening in on the conversation, including Iruka. She too didn't understand what he was getting at but she could only guess it had something to with the need to beat All Might.
"I don't know what's going through your head or why you thought you had to tell me you were stronger and ya you definitely am stronger than me, but that won't stop me from aiming for the top."
"Everyone get ready, we will be heading out soon." Tenya said. Now the tension in the room was replaced by nervousness. Iruka tried to distract Ochaco while simultaneously distracting herself from her own.
When Present Mic was introducing her class Iruka couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed. He was hyping up their class for surviving a villain attack and Iruka knew it would help internship wise but it didn't stop her from wanting to crawl in a hole and die.
Present Mic had been announcing the first year classes with less and less enthusiasm earning a good wack in the head by Shota, "Don't be so biased and comment properly."
"Now everyone you should all play fair." Midnight announced as she flicked her whip. Everyone gawked at her like they've never seen a woman before. "Now let's choose a player rep." Midnight paused purely for suspense. "Bakugo Katsuki of 1-A." She announced earning a fair amount of outrage.
It was only her classmates that were shocked while everyone else only scoffed in disgust.
"Sensei," He started. "I'm going to win first place." To most it may have sounded cocky but to Iruka it was determination and Izuku knew this as well. When he walked back down to the class Iruka burst out laughing.
"Kacchan that's a horrible way to show determination." She laughed out.
"Sounded like being cocky to me." Hitoshi whispered to Mezo. Hitoshi although didn't hate the blond, he never was on good terms with him.
"Now with that let us start with the first event." They really don't take break's at UA. " Onto the preliminary round as they called it, and this year's will be an obstacle race."
Midnight went on to explain how all 11 classes will be competing in a 4km race around the school. They were given permission to win by any means necessary. Soon everyone shuffled to their starting point.
"Shinso, you aren't afraid of heights right?" Iruka asked quickly.
"Well not really."
"Well you better hold on tight." Hitoshi had no time to ask because the buzzer had gone off and soon everyone was shuffling out of the tight hallway space.
Before she lost sight of him Iruka jumped up and transformed her arms and legs into wings and bird legs respectively. She grabbed Hitoshi off the ground and took flight. She didn't look down but Hitoshi had informed her that Shoto had used his quirk to have as many stuck in that hallway.
Once out of the hallway Iruka tried to fly higher but Hitoshi's weight didn't allow it, making her slow down. Because of this Katsuki had a clear shot and aimed right for the two. Thanks to this both fell right to the ground.
"Go go. I'll catch up I promise." Hitoshi yelled at her as more of their schoolmates caught up. She had to have faith in Hitoshi so she transformed fully this time as a gray headed albatross. She sped through as fast as she could keeping an eye out for anyone who was airborne.
Soon she saw the obstacle courses. The first was the zero pointers from the entrance exam. Iruka knew their purpose was to slow people down so she kept flying past. She felt it was rather odd that they hadn't tried to add any kind of air obstacle course but she felt it was well in her favour.
Iruka was suddenly very thankful for her dads being the commentators because she could tell just who was behind her and how far away with her. When she did have a fair distance away from everyone else, Present Mic shifted his focus on Iruka. Explaining how her quirk worked most probably for all the pro's who were interested in recruiting her.
Just as she was reaching what looked to be a minefield, Iruka heard a fairly familiar voice. She made the mistake of looking back. It was Izuku and Shoto practically going head to head with each other.
She was quick to fly right past the minefield and scared her two classmates might over take her. From behind she heard explosions and knew either Izuku did something stupid or was planning something stupid.
Not wanting to risk looking back Iruka just booked it for the finish line.
"AND THE FIRST ONE TO REACH THE FINISH LINE IS IRUKA ITO!" Iruka landed on the ground before destransforming and when she did the crowd went wild.
