Chapter 29
It was the first day of school since the USJ attack and Iruka felt slightly uneasy. She had been staying over at Izuku's place that night not wanting to disturb her dad was her excuse. Shota had been discharged and was asked to stay home for the week.
"Who do you think will take care of the homeroom?" Izuku asked the two.
"It better not be Uncle Hizashi or I might claw my ears out and bash my head through the wall." Katsuki sounded almost disgusted by the very idea, you'd think after an entire year of seeing the man, Katsuki would at least start to get used to all the noise.
"You're lucky I don't tell Papa you say these things. I do have a sneaking suspicion it'll be Dad."
"Shouldn't he be at home for the week resting?" Katsuki snarled.
"You'd think that, wouldn't you. But I have a feeling he'll be coming, for something important."
"Hope if he does come it'll be the determination to teach us and not the need to want to expel us."
"Don't worry Izu, even for Dad that's a little too harsh after the USJ thing. Besides if he wants to expel anyone from the class I might not let the paperwork go through since I'm the one that deals with it anyways."
"Maybe that's why no one's been expelled this year."
"Well, no one's requested and been expelled yet. Besides, I don't determine what happens to the students, won't stop me from adding my 2 senses about it though."
When they got to class they were greeted by fairly concerned classmates. The attention was mostly directed to poor Iruka.
"I've got to say, Ito, what you did at the USJ was so manly."
"Ya Kirishima said you fought the Nomu with your bare paws."
"You must've been sparkling."
Katsuki had to shut everyone up so they wouldn't overwhelm Iruka. A little bit after everyone had taken their seats Tenya came rushing telling everyone to be quiet and take their seats. That was kind of useless which got Tenya rather frustrated.
"Morning class."
"Aizawa Sensei what are you doing here?!" Everyone yelled out in shock. Iruka facepalmed.
"Sir it's good to see that you are ok." Tenya piped up.
"You called that ok?" Ochaco and Iruka questioned rather concerned.
"My well being is irrelevant," He paused when Iruka started mumbling Izuku style. "Have something to say, Ito?"
"Ah well, I w-was just think-thinking maybe your-your doctor would've wan-wanted you t-to rest more."
"I appreciate the concern but my health isn't your concern especially when your fight isn't over." Iruka almost had a panic attack on the spot. What does he mean by our fight? What else are we fighting?
"Our fight?"
"Don't tell me?"
"Not more bad guys."
"The UA sports festival is about to start."
"WHY DID YOU HAVE TO SCARE US LIKE THAT!" Somehow everyone shouted in sync but the most noticeable one to shout it out was Iruka.
"But sir is it a really good idea to be holding a sports festival right after the USJ attack?" Kyoka asked, some of the other questions the same thing.
"Apparently the administration thinks this is a good way to show the world that the threat has been handled and that our school is now safe. Plus they're beefing up security this year."
"But we just had a full-blown villain attack," Mineta whined.
"Well that doesn't still mean they can just not hold the festival. It's where you get scouted for agencies. It's the biggest opportunity you'll get as a hero in training." Iruka voiced out.
"She's right. After graduating a lot of people join hero agencies and become sidekicks for the pros." Denki was the one to speak and he was feeling proud about it until Kyoka ruined his mood.
"Ya but that's as far as some people go. They miss their opportunities and end up eternal sidekicks. Actually, that's probably where you're headed Kaminari." Kyoka jokes practically scaring the boy about his future.
Soon after classes started per-usual and in no time it was lunch. All everyone was talking about was the sports festival. Iruka couldn't really blame them, it was an opportunity of a lifetime, even Ochaco was getting pumped up which sorta scared Iruka a little. They were on their way to the cafeteria when Izuku asked Ochaco why she wanted to be a hero so badly.
"For the money?" Izuku questioned.
"To put it simply, ya. Oh, I sound so greedy please don't take that the wrong way. You guys have such admirable motives I hope you don't think less of me."
"Not all. Your goal is to support your well being which is a perfectly admirable ambition." Tenya swung his robotic arms around.
"Mhmm it's just surprising is all." Ochaco then explained to them how her parents' construction company has been going downhill lately and this was one of the only ways she could think to support them without them feeling guilty about it.
"Well if supporting you and your family is why you want to be a hero then I don't see anything wrong about it. Izu over here just misunderstood your words is all." Iruka didn't want Ochaco to think they thought any less of her. Before they could take another step All Might had appeared around the corner offering Izuku to have lunch with him. They gave him the ok before he followed All Might to the teachers' lounge.
"I wonder what he wanted with Deku?" Ochaco questioned as they were lining up for their food.
"Maybe to talk about the USJ since he tried to help All Might or maybe talk about the upcoming sports festival," Iruka mentioned trying to make it seem obvious she didn't know about their relationship outside of school.
"That could be it. Also, remember that time Asui-"
"Tsu."
"Excuse me?"
"Tsu wants people to call her Tsu."
"Yes right thank you for reminding me, Ito. Anyways do you remember when Tsu said Izuku had a similar quirk to All Might's? Since their quirks are similar it's possible he has taken a liking towards Midoriya. How lucky."
"Hope Izu doesn't become a teachers' pet especially not towards All Might." Iruka noticed someone was eavesdropping and she was trying to change the topic.
"Oh why is that?" Ochaco asked.
"Well he'd probably talk about it with me and Kacchan and then Kacchan will complain about how Izu never shuts up about All Might and that's not a brutal cycle I'd want to be a part of."
"Oh that reminds me. Are you, Bakugo and Deku close friends or something?"
"Uhh ya we lived in the same neighbourhood growing up, I'm practically Izu's sister at this point." Iruka let out an awkward laugh.
"Has Bakugo's personality always been so hot-headed?"
"He used to be much worse. Oddly enough he's lightened up a little since we started UA. "
The rest of the day went by in a flash. That day for their practicals they practised using their quirks on one another to grasp what they should do in a certain situation. Iruka's situation was a robber. Simple situation and 1 she's had to deal with.
After school Iruka went of to see Hound Dog. Their counseling sessions had been bumped up to twice a week since the USJ attack so it was ashame she couldn't walk her friends home. Her parents had to stay longer than usual so Iruka walked home alone. She hadn't intended to go through the alleyways but at that point, it was just a habit to walk through there.
When she heard someone crying out for help she rushed to the scene. She didn't like what she saw, a man holding a bloody knife ready to attack a little boy no older than 10. She dropped her bag and quickly flew in to stop the man.
She had changed into a hawk and grabbed the knife, surprising the people there. She changed back and yelled at the boy to run.
"You're nothing more than a high schooler, you bitch." The man lunged at Iruka and she jumped up before giving him a good kick in the back as a kangaroo.
Once the man was down for the count she followed the scent of the little boy. She found him hiding near a dumpster curled up scared for his life.
"Hey, kid are you alright?" She crouched down next to him so as to not scare him even more. He didn't say a word nor did he move. "Hey I know that was scary so why don't I bring you to the police station."
"P-police station?"
"Ya, the nice people there can help you in any way they can. Do you want to go?" The little boy nodded and they both got up off the ground.
Iruka grabbed her bag and they both headed to the station. Iruka tried to get the kid to talk but he was dead silent the entire way, she didn't blame him going through something like that would be traumatising.
Iruka explained to the police officers that were pretty used to seeing Iruka on an almost daily basis. Something Iruka never understood was why she was never charged for pretty much-doing vigilante work. Ahiro Monoro, the head of the office, was well acquainted and didn't think she should be punished. She was transparent with what she did and never injured anyone badly, merely knocked them out.
"Well, I should head home now. Bye Monoro. See you around kid." She rushed out the door after waving at the little boy one last time. Shoot I'm going to be late.
She rushed home as fast as she could, somehow Iruka's life ran on pure luck because the police station was only a few blocks away from home. Of course, this didn't stop her being late but she came home late here and there and considering how this is a world of villains and heroes it wasn't rare to be caught up in the crossfire.
When Iruka got home she realised her parents weren't home yet so she took the opportunity to start dinner even if it was Shota's turn to make it. He wouldn't be able to make it anyways considering how busted his hands were. Speaking of the mummy himself, not long after Shota and Hizashi arrived.
"Hey Little Listener you making dinner?"
"Ya I am. Since somebody wouldn't rest like they were supposed to." Iruka said, lacing her words slightly with annoyance.
"This isn't about me coming to school today is it?"
"Oh no definitely isn't. But it could be the fact that you said that your health was none of our concern. You're our teacher how could it not be our concern I mean hell you almost died. What would you do if I said my health wasn't any of your concern that night." The night Iruka was referring to was when Shota found her, which stung the man a little but he remained un-phased.
"Alright alright, I admit what I said was a little harsh. I'm sorry."
"Hmph. Fine, come on dinner's ready."
"Hey kiddo I know you come home late sometimes, could you maybe try not to. I don't feel easy if you're out late after the USJ attack, we don't know what other kinds of information the league has on us."
"Mmm sure thing."
