Chapter 1

“Commander, sir, I think I've spotted his location,” said the deputy, scrolling down a computer screen. “He appears to live in London, sir, at this location, right here,” he said, pulling up an exact address.

“Ok, good. I think I should put Howell on the case.”

“Howell? But sir, this is such a simple job. Perhaps one of the newer recruits would be better suited.”

“Howell is graduating from his position soon. I say let the boy unwind a bit.”

“Yes sir. I will call him in.”

In no more than three minutes, Private Daniel Howell had arrived. He was 24 now, putting 15 years of the agency's training under his belt. He had busted several hundred criminals, stopped several economic destruction plans, and personally saved the queen herself from assassination – twice. He had grown tall and lean on the diet they fed him. To keep himself undercover, they had at least let him grow his hair any way he chose, so he ended up with a nice fringe. A stern, emotionless look had developed on his once happy-go-lucky face. He stepped to attention – “Sir! Private Howell reporting, sir!”

“At ease, soldier.” He lead Dan to the computer where the address had been arranged. “Here is the address of a man we believe to be smuggling, selling, and possibly taking drugs such as cocaine and marijuana. We want you to go here and investigate. You know the drill – if he's guilty, bring him in. If not, fish around to make sure he's not lying.”

“Sir, a drug bust? Isn't this a little low level?”

“Did I ask for your opinion, private?!”

“Sir, no sir! When shall I move out?”

“We have a place set up for you in the same building he's expected to be residing in. This information was given to us by a woman who also resides in this building. The guy's name is... eh, deputy?”

“Lester, sir. Philip Lester.”

“There you go. Now go get dressed into more casual attire.”

“Sir, you want me to go undercover for this?” Dan figured it would just be easier to go in and make the arrest instead of taking his sweet, useless time.

“Yeah. Soften him up a bit. Get to know him. Be friends with him. Then go in for the kill, yeah?”

Dan internally sighed. He didn't find it honorable to play games with his targets. “Yes sir.”

“What was that?!”

“Sir! Yes sir!”

“Atta boy! Now go: you are dismissed. You will be sent out to London in two hours.”

Dan left and walked to his dorm. He packed the things he needed – laptop, phone, wire, gun, handcuffs, etc. – and changed into street clothes, as well as packing several changes in case he was to stay long. The commander was unpredictable, but Dan knew just how to stay on top of him, as he did everyone. It was that reason that Dan was top private.
