Halfway into the party, Taehyung already feels like he's overstayed his welcome. He's often glancing at his watch, waiting to hear your voice boom through the speakers and announce you're going to dance for your boyfriend.

Until then, he's perched at a corner of the crowded space, like a lone loser. Girls looked his way, though. To which he responded with a flirt wink and turned away immediately with his drink. He wasn't present for dirty business anyway. And he most definitely wouldn't want to risk getting into anything with one of your friends.

Although, if Taehyung paid more attention, he'd be able to tell exactly which of the girls would be friends with you. He thinks you're less of a diverse person and like to stick with your kind. He thinks it's nice of you. The mini dresses that almost expose their bare bottoms, no sleeves and low cut necklines wouldn't be your ideal crowd. He doesn't think there's anything wrong with them, but he knows it's not your cup of tea. Or he was just overthinking.

"Can I have everyone's attention?" The MC's voice cuts deep into his thoughts.

Taehyung straightens, searching the room to find the exact position of the speaker.

"I think it's time."

Taehyung flinches, almost spilling the rest of his drink. He spins around to find you twirling a piece of your hair. The folds on your forehead tells him all he needs to know. You're nervous.

"You're scared?" He asks softly, searching your face with his eyes. You keep looking up to the MC, where he's making small jokes before he introduces you.

"I can't do this alone. I don't think I can even do it anymore," You say in one breath, pause, catch your breath, then your heart rate increases. "Taehyung, I'll flop."

You swallow, and accept your fate.

"Y/N. You won't be alone," Taehyung rubs your shoulders.

"You'll dance with me?" You don't know if it's relief or the adrenaline rush caused by thinking that you'll be accused of cheating, but energy surges through you.

"No. I got you back-up dancers. That's my gift," He shoots you a boxy grin and looks towards the other side of the room. There are two ladies in black who also appear to be searching the area.

Before you get to express your gratitude, the MC announces your surprise.

Hesitantly, you pull away from Taehyung, thanking him with your eyes. He gives a little nod and mouths goodluck to you.

You're in the spotlight. Bright, blinding lights and sharp, judging pairs of eyes peer on you. Jungkook's right in the middle, and you focus your attention on him. He's looking back at you with slightly wide eyes and his lips parted. You can barely read his expression, but it's something you'd never really mastered.

When the music starts, you force your body to move. It's not as easy as it was during practice. Your brain is muddled, voices keep yelling and images play in your head. You're struggling to remember the next steps, instead of them coming naturally to you.

You miss a step. It's small, unnoticeable, but every bone in your body can tell. Jungkook does too.

You see a flit of disapproval in his eyes, right before he looks away.

You disappointed him.

Your eyes want to tear, but you blink them away and carry on with your choreography. Searching the crowd again, you see Taehyung smiling so wide.

So wide that it lights up the whole room. His little claps feel like a cup of coffee on a tired Monday morning. So you keep dancing. You manage to push through until the end.

Once you're done, the crowd erupts with claps and cheers. Strangely enough, you tune them out when you see Jungkook stride towards you.

He has a smile on his face, hands in his pocket while his eyes are stuck on you.

This is it. The moment he realizes he doesn't need other girls. Excitement fills your core when he leans in to kiss you. Butterflies erupt in your stomach. Your head is a mess, trying to revel in the moment before it's over.

Finally. A moment of fulfilment.
