Jungkook got you your dress. A gold, backless dress that sticks to your figure and rolls down to the floor. Sequins scatter around the front, while the back is plain and shiny. It's such a beautiful dress that it makes your heart swell.

"Are you so excited you're smiling to yourself?" Jia looks at your reflection with a teasing smile, combing her hands through your hair to catch stray strands. You roll your eyes at her as your cheeks flush red.

Jia is a hairstylist, so handling your hair is a job she takes upon herself every time you have an event. She's decided on a beautiful updo that makes you look like a bride. It makes butterflies dance in your stomach.

You're about to reply her when your phone lights up.

"Happy Anniversary, don't forget your choreo! See you in a bit 💋"

It was a text from Taehyung. Immediately you read it, you pick up your phone and turn it over, fighting the smile by biting your lip

"If you're cheating on Jungkook, I'm all for it, but not on your anniversary girl," Jia mutters while she's trying to chuck pins into your hair. She's determined to make sure your hair stays put all day, even though you're going to dance with it.

You sigh and glare at her through the mirror.

"I'm not cheating, okay? That's my dance instructor. He's just that way." You clarify, smoothing out your dress. Your mind wanders to Taehyung again. You wonder how he's dressed. Would he wear a suit or cargos?

"I hear this dance instructor is hot, though," She wiggles her eyebrows and you furrow yours. Confusion takes over your features.

"Who told you that?"

"Taehee has good eyes, and a mouth," She points out casually as she reaches for the hairspray.

Jia finishes your hair and makeup just 6 minutes after 3 o'clock. While you wait for your Uber, she engages you in more conversation. You promise to give her all the details when you're back, since she would not be able to attend. It hurts you, but she has Taehee to deal with.

It's 4:14 when you pull up to the venue. You'd reached out to Jungkook while in the car , suggesting it'd be nice to make an appearance together. While you expected a reply, Taehyung texted you again.

Taehyung

I thought the party starts at 4?
Where's the party girl?

you:
ever heard of fashionably late?
it's just 2 minutes past 4, even
I'm omw

Taehyung:

On your way??

Have YOU heard of fashionably late?

You:
🙄

What are YOU even doing there?

Taehyung:
Let's just say I always keep to time

You smile at his text. You get down from the Uber after paying and look around. The music's already blasting, but you feel out of place for showing up early.

You subconsciously look around for Taehyung, or really any familiar face. You find someone leaned against a white car. A silhouette you wouldn't miss. Just as you're about to walk to him, your phone vibrates again.

JK❤:
I'll be omw soon

You scoff, feeling your mood instantly fall.

"Party girl?" A voice makes you look up. It's Taehyung. He's turned to you fully now, waving his phone lightly with a huge smile. You drink in his attire. Black shirt with black slacks that he fills in well. You wonder if it's because he's mostly in sweatpants and cargos that you never understood how bulky he was. His muscles flex in the shirt when he stuffs his phone into his back pocket. You try not to gape.

"Where's the party boy?" He looks behind you, like he's expecting Jungkook to spawn from nowhere.

"Running late?" You plaster a grin on your face, hoping he doesn't ask too much. Thankfully, he doesn't.

"Let's hang out a bit? Till people start coming in." He offers you a hand and you take it. He leads you towards the back of the building, where there's a garden and a little bench that faces the pool. Soft music plays in the background and you take some time to marvel at the space. It doesn't take you a lot to guess that it's booked as well.

"You look beautiful," is the first thing Taehyung says to you when you sit on the bench.

"Thank you," you whisper and turn to fiddle with your nails. You suspect your cheeks flush red but you don't want him to see it.

"How scandalous would it be to find us both here," he laughs. An amused breathy laugh that allows him to stretch comfortably on the bench. His body fills the space, long legs stretched far enough to tip your heels slightly. Your eyes betray you, and redirect to his thighs.

"I know, right." You give a tight lipped smile, then force your eyes to meet his. "But we're just friends, right?"

"Teacher and student," he corrects, then thinks for a while before speaking again "That sounds even more scandalous,"

It makes you laugh out loud. Indeed, it did. Some excitement your life would definitely need.

"Just friends won't do. Nobody thinks boys and girls can be just friends,"

"But they can!" You whine, but he hits you with an unsure hum.

You check your phone for updates from Jungkook. The last text you sent sat pretty in your chat box, unopened.

you:
text me when u get here

Taehyung's eyes slip to your phone unintentionally. He sees the texts. He notices how your lips tug downward in a slight frown.

"You wanna know what I did last Christmas?" He asks, forcing you to drag your eyes away from your screen.

"What?"

"I was a chicken mascot," He's dead serious when he tells you. No sort of emotion on his face, that your unsure if you should laugh or feel sorry. When a beat of silence passes, he continues.

"I danced like a chicken on the streets, and a kid bit my leg so hard."

You're not sure why, but you laugh really hard at his confession. Maybe because it's random, or it's just the image of a tall chicken on the road that sets you off. You're wailing for air, then before you can hold yourself, you slap your hand against his thigh.

His muscles tense and his grin almost fades. He's staring at your hand. You stare at it too. It's dangerously close to his waist.

You're scared to move your hand away, because the air is no longer light and fuzzy. Every passing second feels like a forbidden minute.

You hear keys jam into the door to the area and you snatch your hand away. When the door swings open, you feel your heart in your throat.
