6 Butterfly
POV Shawn
My phone woke me up by it's aggressive ringing. I yawn widely and grab it from my bedside table. I glance at the number and roll my eyes.
"What's up Flounder?" I reply.
"That's not a good way to respond to phone. How about a hello?" Flounder sighed.
"Hello and that's not the way to introduce yourself when you call to someone," I teased him. I lean my head to my arm which I'm holding behind my neck. It's already noon.
"Haha, really funny. Curse these smartphones!" Flounder groaned.
"Yeah so, why did you wake me up?" I say and ruffle my hair.
"First of all to check how you are doing? Those girls did take you home? Oh! How's your mom?" He laughed.
"I'm doing okay, yes they did and moms probably at work," I reply quickly.
"Speaking of work... shouldn't you be teaching at university?" Flounder mumbled.
"Nah, I have free day because it's weekend stupid," I chuckle.
"Oh yeah.. Well I do work on weekends," Flounder laughed.
"Yup. So can I come to play piano this evening at the pub?" I ask carefully. My fight with him might not be seen in a good light.
"Well the bartender wasn't that mad because you didn't break anything. It was close though. You should really keep your mind steady," Flounder said strictly.
"I know but I really hate him!" I gritted my teeth together.
After long preaching from Flounder we hang up. He was always looking after me, we've been hanging together ever since we were kids. Now even more because his best friend Ariel is engaged.
When I got downstairs I look at the photo frame over the fireplace. Elsa, who is actually a really nice girl despite being in the military, was watching it yesterday. Taking it out from sight is really fascinating me.
Jackson was always reckless idiot. I was the responsible one and came to live with mom after everything. Everyone around the house was always praising the greatness of army. The place where death is evident.
I sigh as I open up the fridge to get something for breakfast. There's nothing that can fix up things between me and Jack, nothing. Nothing at all to make up what he has done.
POV Elsa
Wednesday. Last weekend was a nice little cheer up after long week. Well, now the week has begun again and lasted for two days already. Two painful days of mental and physical beating. It's like he doesn't want me here. And he really doesn't want me here.
This day frightens me the most though. It's the day we practice hand-to-hand combat. Guys were excited to practice it again. We've had it few times but I've always got knocked down.
Now I hope that my evening practices with Fa Mulan have paid off. Merida recommended her and she really made me go to my limits.
"First I want to see Miss Arendelle getting a reminder how pathetic she is. Go and fight with Hamada, try to knock him down," Captain Frost laughed and glared at me. He was so distant and hateful feeling again.
"I really wouldn't want to beat you up again," Hiro whispered when we stood in front of each other.
I smile faintly at him as he bows to me. He does this every time before indulging into battle. "It's okay Hiro. Just don't go easy on me," I tell him as I spread my legs.
Captain Frost blows into his whistle and I see how Hiro tries to end it short by kicking me off from my feet. However I jump over his leg and I hit him to his gut when he wasn't protecting himself. He holds his stomach and I grab onto his head, apologizing as I hit my knee on his head. He flew to ground.
I glance at Captain Frost. His eyes widen in shock and he just keeps staring at us. Even Hiccup and Eugene remain quiet.
"AWESOME!" Eugene cheered and Hiccup joined him. I help Hiro up and he shows me thumbs up while holding his head. I laugh a bit happily.
"That was pure luck," Captain whispered. His voice was so cold that it almost froze the blood inside my veins.
"Beat her confidence down Haddock," Captain nodded to Hiccup. He seemed dissatisfied as he walks in front of me. Hiccup tried to attack me first and I dodged it. I used his body weight to throw him down.
Eugene was more tricky. He was fast and could predict my moves. I got hits from him and he from me. I wasn't sure if I could defeat him but finally his attention was distracted when few girls passed us. He noticed Rapunzel's laughter. It was enough to help me to get him out from his feet.
"ELSA WAS BEST! YESS!" Hiro laughed and cheered me. I blushed. This time I didn't screw up. Maybe he will now compliment me? Even once? I improved a lot.
"Private Arendelle," Captain Frost spoke behind me when I had helped Eugene up.
"Yes?" I reply smiling as I turn around. Then I gasp, I saw him taking his jacket off and standing in front of me.
"Time to take that freaking smirk out from your face," he hissed. "Don't get cocky private. Let's see if you can beat me up," Captain smirked. His eyes narrowed and he looks scary. Angry. Really angry.
My hands shook as I regained my fighting pose. He blew into the whistle which hangs on his neck. Immediately he attacked, trying to kick me down. I dodged it and I aimed my fist at his stomach. He stopped his move and jumped back.
Suddenly Captain was behind me and I felt how his fist hit on my back. It made me fall to my knees and then he lifted me up.
"Captain she's down already!" Hiccup shouted and soon I felt sharp pain on my face. I gasped as he had hit me on my jaw. He was breathing furiously and I just shivered in fear.
I tasted blood inside my mouth. My lip felt sour and then he dropped me down. His clothes were bit dusty and he wiped it away before putting his green jacket back on.
"The practice is over. Get some food," Captain spoke emotionlessly. I stood up and I ran past him and everyone. I felt humiliated, my moment of succeeding was taken away by him.
I didn't go to eat like the rest. I just went into my barracks. Then I kept on staring outside, I felt empty in the inside. As time went on I felt even worse.
Suddenly I saw Captain Frost getting out from his barrack through window. A sudden burst of anger rushed through me and I stood up. I need to stand up against him and tell him how I dislike his behavior.
I ran after him but he was having some distance already. I won't humiliate myself by running after him. I will follow him and speak with him when he stops.
However my intention to speak with him disappeared when I notice where he was heading. We went out from the base and towards a surrounding which gave me chills.
I keep watching him from distance. The stones made from clear white rock are spooking me out a bit. The cemetery is filled with grave stones like this and I look up to see the flag of our nation flowing in the wind. The stones are perfectly lined up, between them is a certain gap.
To my eye all the stones look the same. However Captain doesn't even glance at them, he walks with his back straight. He has taken off his hat which he is carrying against his chest. Then I noticed that he had put on white gloves.
I bite my bottom lip as I tiptoe my way behind a tree that's shadowing some of the stones. He doesn't seem to notice that I'm stalking him. There's couple rows of stones between us and he is currently walking five tomb stones away from my location.
When I got ready to run behind the next tree in the area he suddenly stopped. His face was blank and yet sad when he turns around. I hid behind the tree but I realized that he wasn't trying to see if someone was following him.
I watch how he stares down at one certain grave stone. His hand brushes over the top of it when he kneels down. Slowly he looks down and closes his eyes. He seems so... so.. sad? Wait, he can't be sad. He is just a cruel and cold hearted jerk.
It startled me when he got back up again. My heart was racing when I hid myself behind the tree again. The feeling of my lip being on fire from his beating before returns to me, like a flash of lightning, as fast and strong. He might hit me again if he knows what I am doing.
"I have something for you," I heard Captain Frost whispering. His voice was gentle so it clearly wasn't something that he said to me. Finally I managed to gather the shreds of my courage again and I look what he is referring to.
My eyes widen as I see him waving his hand in air. The ground in front of him is being covered with snow and he leans down, grabbing some of it into his hand. I watch how he blows into it, making the snow glow in blue. Then my jaw literally dropped when he squeezed his hands together, leaving the glowing snow between.
When he opened up his hands and threw the thing he was holding to ground behind him I watch in awe. He had knelt down, touching the glowing object. The air around me cools down and a breeze was gathering around him. Tiny ice crystals started to form and gather into the tiny object which he was staring with focused look.
The thing he created was something.... reminding me of...
It was large object, crystallized looking but when he touched it again. The crystals exploded all around and I saw something shimmering in the daylight. It was clear looking and beautiful.
I've seen these type of objects in marvelous halls for music. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen actually. A piano, the type of that you see in concerts but something was different. It was like it was made out of glass?
But I'm just wondering and stunned of how he made it. Maybe he is a wizard?
In the same way he created a small stool in front of the piano. He had this small smile on his face when he sat on it.
"This is for you," he whispered and glanced at the grave again. Then I saw how his fingers were touching the keys of the piano. My heart was pounding inside my chest. Captain can play a piano? Like his brother?
When he wasn't watching I sneak behind the tree that was directly behind the grave which he had paused at.
The melody was gorgeous. It captured me but somehow it sounded really heart crushing.
My breath hitched when he started to sing all of a sudden. I'm just blown away by that fact and I hide behind the tree again.
"When she was just a girl she expected the world
But it flew away from her reach
So she ran away in her sleep and dreamed of
Para-para-paradise, para-para-paradise, para-para-paradise
Every time she closed her eyes
When she was just a girl she expected the world
But it flew away from her reach and the bullets catch in her teeth
Life goes on, it gets so heavy
The wheel breaks the butterfly every tear a waterfall
In the night the stormy night she'll close her eyes
In the night the stormy night away she'd fly
And dream of para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
(Oh oh oh oh oh, oh-oh-oh)
She'd dream of para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
(Oh oh oh oh oh, oh-oh-oh-oh)
La-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
And so lying underneath those stormy skies
She'd say, "Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I know the sun must set to rise"
—-"
My back is tightly against the tree. He is singing to a girl? Our Captain? To a girl? This is so weird.
When I watch at him again I see him leaning his forehead against his hand.
"FUCK!" He shouted and startled me. I watch how he slams his closed fist on the piano and I yelped a bit when it exploded. Weird sparks fly all around and I see the ground getting a weird layer over it. It's white and... melting?
Wait. If it's melting maybe? Just maybe?
I look at what he is doing now and I see him kneeling down again. His hands are moving in the air and when I was able to see clearly I saw him holding a glowing blue rose. Slowly he stood up and started walking away. His face was emotionless once again.
I remained there, leaning against the tree. It feels like my heart could jump out from inside the ribcage at any moment. I'm so curious to see why he was at that grave.
No I shouldn't, it's his own personal thing. I should leave.
Few steps later I stopped. The piano and rose were bothering my mind and the weird explosion. Quickly I go back and directly at the grave. I look at the rose that he had placed in front of the grave.
My heart paused for a moment when I touched the rose.
"ICE!" I said half aloud in excitement. "M-maybe I'm not alone with this after all," I gulped out aloud. I look behind me, there's a big puddle of water. The piano must have been made from ice too.
"So that's your secret," I laughed half aloud. Then a shiver went up on my spine and I place the rose back down. He had given the rose to someone. And to be precise, to a girl.
Slowly I look at the grave and I notice the small butterfly sculptures on the top. My eyes look down and I stare at the text.
"Born 12th of June 1994. Died 2nd September 2012," I read aloud. We had just about six months age difference. Should I read the rest?
My body shivers a bit as I read it from the beginning.
"A beloved Daughter and a True Soldier," I continued reading. "Our Baby Tooth who is missed dearly by fellow Guardians," I gulped aloud.
S-so she was on his team like Toothiana was. I hold my breath as I look at the name. Do I even want to know who his love was?
"Emma Eleonora Overland," I whispered. It was like my whole world had paused. Emma Overland.
Quickly I read the rest of the grave stone.
"Missed by Mom and Dad, Brothers and whole country," I finished reading it.
"T-their sister. T-they had a sister. T-the girl in the picture," I mumbled aloud and I muffled my gasp by covering my mouth. I feel tears streaming down on my cheeks. My shoulders are shaking as I try to prevent my crying.
I close my eyes and I wave my hand in the air. Now there's two ice roses instead of one. This is the memorial day of her death. Captain's little sister.
I just shook my head in shock. This information is almost killing me. I would've died if Anna would've been killed.
