43 Live to Love, Love to Live
POV Merida
The campfire warms me up like the coffee that I just made. I throw in another piece of wood which cracks in two once it hit the flames. It feels great to be out hunting again, even though I haven't caught anything.
Walking around in the forest has always been a relaxing thing for me. Let alone going out to hunt for few weeks, just wandering around and going where your feet takes you.
Something pokes my elbow and I laugh when I see Angus begging for a treat.
"Here you go lass," I laughed as I tore a piece of rabbits meat from the almost finished roast.
Angus licked his lips after he had eaten his share. I smile to him calmly when I reach to get the cooked rabbit off from the charred wood that I had taken off from the fire so I could make us some dinner.
Just when I was about to eat I heard some sounds coming closer in the dark forest. I place the meat down and I reach to my knife.
Suddenly a dog barks and I see Angus greeting it.
"Toothless! Come back buddy!" A familiar voice shouted and I laughed when Toothless jumped over me to lick my face.
"He is here Hiccup!" I yelled and soon a shadow approaches my camp site.
Hiccup comes in the light of the fire and smiles when he sees me.
"Wow, Merida. What are you doing here?" He laughed and sat other side of the campfire.
I managed to get Toothless off from me.
"I was out hunting," I grinned and I handed him a piece of rabbits meat.
"Really? You know this forest is pretty far from where you're from. Like nearer to my home since I take Toothless out to stretch his legs in here each day," he wondered.
I shrugged, "Well I've been wandering around for couple months. I've had free time since I quit in the military but they may call me if they need help."
I took a piece of the juicy meat and ate it.
"Oh, you quit too. I left when Elsa did," Hiccup hummed.
"Yup, Hiro left with me and Gogo. Astrid's doing well, don't you think? She is now a Captain, she got the title when Frost was imprisoned," I explained to him.
"Yeah she's doing well.. " Hiccup sighed and stared at the flames. He still hadn't touched the meat he had in his plate.
"Is something wrong?" I asked.
"Uh, it has been just less than a year since I broke up with Astrid. She wants different types of things from life than I do," Hiccup exhaled and began eating.
"Mm.. like she wants a career in the army and you want a peaceful life?" I questioned.
Damn this meat is tasty.
"Yeah, kind of. And you want to wander in the woods?" He laughed.
"Kind of. I felt that the army was a chain around my ankle, trapping me," I shrugged.
"True. So HiRO went back to Fransoskyo with Gogo?" He asked.
"That's the case. Now he is literally patrolling the streets with his dog Baymax, his friends are helping him," I grinned.
"Umm.. do you have anything for this evening?" Hiccup laughed nervously all of a sudden.
"Nah," I replied and continued eating.
"Want to see my town? We could catch up with things while we're on it," he suggested.
I thought for it for a moment. I raised my shoulders and let them drop, "Sure why not." I told him when I got up. I wiped my hands on my pants and I got my bow from the ground.
After we had put down the flames we started to walk through the forest. He was leading the way and soon I saw the lights of his town ahead. He even offered a place to stay for tonight which was nice of him.
When he had finished up the tour he brought me to a place up the hill. It had a nice view down to the town.
"This is my favorite place! It is so quiet and beautiful," he cheered.
"Quiet when you're not around," I mumbled and he gave me a look.
"What?" I asked.
"You are strange sometimes Mer," he muttered.
"Like how? You're the one that asked me out in the first place. You know what I am, don't you... deal with it," I said sarcastically.
"No I didn't ask you for a date!" He snorted and rubbed his neck awkwardly.
"You're hopeless," I exhaled before pecking a kiss on his cheek. It made him blush and look away.
"Uh..okay I guess we need to call it off for tonight," he whispered and started to walk down the hill. He almost tripped to his own feet which made me laugh.
"Sure thing lass," I replied and I rushed after him.
He is a goofy guy and making fun of him is kind of cool but.. I guess I like him.
POV Elsa
It has been a year from the battle which happened in Arendelle. Pitch Black was sentenced for life and he is in high security prison. My career in the military ended on the day of the battle, now I'm fully responsible over the troops of my kingdom and I feel confident to command them in case of a war happens again. That was my ultimate goal when I joined into military in the first place.
My thoughts wander back in time to think of the year that passed. Captain Frost disappeared after he was released from the prison where he was waiting for his trial for three months. He has been gone for nine months and he hasn't contacted me at all within this year. All of his promises seem to be good for nothing.
I dip the quill pen into ink and I write the last signature for today. The sun is beginning to set in the horizon when I look outside.
There's going to be an event later today which I need to take part in. One of my guardsmen has accomplished great things and has been suggested to being promoted as the guard commander and as the queen I'm the one giving the title.
"Elsa," Anna knocked the door before coming in. She was wearing a really beautiful dress, made into events like this when we need to be there as the faces of the kingdom.
"Yes, I'm ready in a wave of a hand," I smiled and as I spoke I waved my hand. An ice blue dress that was completely done from shining ice crystals formed over the simple dress I was wearing.
"I wish I could be ready that fast. You have no idea how much time it took for the maid to tighten up the straps behind my back!" Anna groaned.
"You should lay off with the chocolates," I laughed as I offered my arm to her. She took it and leaned her head against my shoulder.
"Not fair, you eat them too and I can't see any effect on you," Anna mumbled.
"Oh Anna, you know how to make me feel better," I sighed with a smile. Anna wrapped her arms around my waist and I placed my arm over her shoulders.
We went into a small room in the end of the festive hall. Here we would wait while the crowds go inside first. Then we would walk into stage where our royal seats were to begin the ceremony.
Kristoff was looking rather uncomfortable in his suit. I laughed a bit when he tried to adjust the golden ribbons that went over his left shoulder. His suit was a lot like my father's was, only the royal marks of a king weren't there thus there's just a queen for this country and it is me.
"This is so exiting!" Anna laughed and I felt happy to see her so excited.
Before going to military we had experienced so much with her. My powers were once uncontrolled and they got the better of me but she helped me to gain control again and find my true strength. Love that is so powerful but it also can feel so painful. Now I'm happy that we can keep the gates open, organize events like this and interact with people unlike we did before.
"It really is exciting," I agreed.
"Forgot to tell you that Shawn arrived today," Anna cheered and my eyes widened.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I gasped.
"Well you were busy and he said that he could wait," Anna shrugged.
Shawn had been a close friend to me during the year. He tried to get Jack and I into contact but his brother had refused. At first Shawn managed to convince me that Jack did so because he wanted to protect me but when the days, weeks and months passed even Shawn started to doubt. Until Jack just vanished without telling where he had gone.
"Mmm... we should probably ask him in for dinner," I wondered aloud when a butler knocked the door and informed us that we could begin now.
The horns were blown when the doors opened. Anna walked in while holding Kristoff from the arm. I stepped into festive hall right after them. The guard was lined up in front, nobles and citizens were behind them and mixed up. I nod my head to greet them when I go in the middle of the stage.
When the horns stopped their sounds of celebration it was my turn to speak.
"We have gathered today to greet our precious guardsmen who keep us safe each day. I am pleased to tell you that one of them has proven their worthiness to his fellow guardsmen and is from today being called as their commander," I began my speech.
I see how three guardsmen come forth. The one in the middle comes to stand in front of me with his eyes laid down to ground. Then he kneels down to one knee.
I turn to my right where a servant carries the royal sword on the pillow. A sly smile spreads on my face when I notice the priest of Arendelle watching me in the crowd. Then I took my gloves off one by one before taking the sword into my hand. A thin layer of frost covered the blade but it didn't get me nervous or surprise anyone.
"I am glad to pronounce thee as the commander of Arendelle's guardsmen and the right hand of the throne Sire," I spoke as I let the blade touch his both shoulders.
The sword was placed back on the pillow and I cross my hands in front of me. I'm waiting for him to stand so I can congratulate him on the half of the throne like I'm supposed to.
He is still kneeling and one of the two guardsmen who came with him to the stage tries to poke him.
I clear my throat, "This is the part where you can stand." I whispered.
He remains quiet and silent whispers start to spread in the festive hall.
"I said you may stand," I spoke highly.
"I prefer on staying on one knee your highness," he said quietly. His voice made me frown, something was so familiar with it. Still his gaze is placed down.
"Why is that?" I asked, I squeezed and relaxed my hands nervously.
"Will you marry me?" He asked playfully and my eyes flew open.
"That's not how you speak to our queen!" One of the nearest guards shouted as he approached the new commander who was kneeling in front of me.
Then he lifted his head up slowly and when two of my guards grabbed onto his arms our eyes met. His smile was warm and his eyes were looking at me dreamily.
"Let him go," I ordered and they let him stand on his own feet.
"Jack," I managed to say aloud after I stared at him for a while. "Where were you?" I gulped as I tried my best to not let my voice shatter in front of the crowd.
Jack chuckled and flashed a smile, happier than I've ever seen on him. "I was busy with joining your rows, getting higher on rank to make a proposal to my Queen," he grinned and I wiped a tear away from my cheek.
"What proposal?" I sniffed aloud and I heard how Anna giggled a bit behind me.
"Geez you're still that stupid soldier that came into my squad. I asked your hand in marriage," he laughed and made the whole festive hall gasp in unison.
His words paused my heart for a moment. My face was burning up when I grasped to his arm, quickly I pulled him after me and I dragged him off from stage.
We went inside the small room and from there to a secret corridor. My hand was squeezing his hand tightly but I didn't say a word. The feeling of joy and anger was mixing up inside my heart into this confusing and playful kind of state of mind. He was intelligent enough to remain quiet as well.
I closed the door behind us. He stood before me, wearing the uniform of Arendelle's guardsmen. For a moment I wanted to just wrap my arms around in and in the next passing second I was filled with fury that made me want to whack him with my handbag (with a bowling ball inside).
"I'm not stupid, you are," I finally muttered as I crossed my arms, my eyes glared at him.
He just let out a slight laughter, his hand went to rest over the swords handle, the sword was tied around his waist with a belt.
"Someone seems happy to see me," he said cunningly like a fox. With couple steps he made the gap vanish between us. His hand went to my cheek and I pulled myself away from under his touch.
The hand that he touched my cheek with went to rub his chin until it dropped down.
"If you truly want to make me happy, you should start explaining," I said coldly.
Try not to shed a tear, I convinced myself.
He sighed, "Why?"
"I missed you. That's why."
He rolled his eyes and I see him reaching to his pocket. He pulls out an envelope with my handwriting on top.
Shit, I thought.
From the envelope he pulls out a piece of paper which he carefully folds open.
"I got this rather interesting letter while I was in jail," he said and made a remarkable look to my direction.
"Please don't," I begged.
"Dear JackASS," he began and I saw a smirk spreading to his face.
"I didn't," I whispered.
Jack's voice raised above mine.
"—It has been weeks – no.. months since I last heard from you. This is why I am starting to feel that I'm just now getting to know the real you and you don't give a damn of others than yourself. You called me a bitch and as a piece of meat when I saw you last time. Shawn said that you're trying to protect me but it must be a lie.
Hear me out because this is how I feel of you, Captain.
You are a selfish backstabbing bastard that thinks that he is the only one having issues. I honestly thought that you could change but you're still that chauvinist pig that you were when we met. I hope that you trip to your own feet when you're keeping your nose up and minding your own business, heck... even your words smell like crap!
Stay away from me.
Sincerely yours,
Elsa of Arendelle."
He fondled the letter back to the envelope while I stared at him with my face being red. It was awfully quiet.
"Jack.." I said with my shaking voice.
"Fuck, it even had the royal stamp in the end and a seal on the envelope," he laughed aloud and wiped a tear from his face. His reaction left me dumbfounded.
"Huh?" I gulped.
"Come here you idiot," he grinned and opened up his arms. When I didn't move at all he pulled me into his embrace.
When I smelled his fresh, minty scent I closed my eyes and my hands grasped to the fabric of his uniform.
"You didn't answer to my question... My angel... will you marry the demon you tamed?"
"You aren't mad because of the letter?" I gulped.
"That letter kept me sane.. kept me working towards my goal. I left the army, I joined into your guardsmen to be close to you and today... today I felt strong and brave enough to ask you to be mine," he whispered and I felt how his head leaned against mine.
"I was always yours," I replied to him. Then I continued, "And I will still be yours... from this day forward until death will us part."
He hugged me tightly.
"You know," he said softly to my ear.
"What?"
"After our marriage I'm again equal with you... even though I'm not a Captain anymore but neither of us will be superior," he chuckled.
"Wait... I'm now your boss," I realized when I look up to him. He is just smiling and staring back.
"Kiss me.. . Captain Frost," I said quietly.
"I am not a Captain anymore," he replied but I hushed him with my finger placed on his lips.
"I order you to kiss me... and I want you to obey the title of a Captain when we're alone," I smirked.
The kiss he gave me almost made me melt. I missed the feeling of his lips against mine, they were soft and fit perfectly together to mine. My fingers were unbuttoning his jacket while our lips battled against each other, it was getting hard to breathe. Hard to breathe not because of lack of oxygen but because of the heat that was building up between us.
I got his jacket open and my hand went inside his t-shirt, his skin was cool and his chest was muscular. His heart was thumping against my hand while I was discovering his body. When I tried to sneak my hand under his pants and boxers he grabbed to my wrist.
"Someone is naughty," he said like he was lecturing a child that was about to steal some cookies from a jar just before dinner. I look at his mischievous smile as my cheeks are still flushed.
"I thought.." I mumbled and he pecked a kiss on my cheek.
"On our wedding night--," he smiled while speaking. He takes out the ring that is his familys heirloom and he places it to my finger. It fits perfectly.
"What happens on our wedding night?" I asked. It was hard to hide or almost impossible to keep the disappointment as a secret because of the way of how my voice sounded like.
"—On our wedding night I will make you feel like you should as you're the one holding my heart. Your bed will be our bed when I make love to you... and if you let me pick out our wedding day.. it will be a permission for me to --," he smiled but then he seemed like he was getting embarrassed.
"To what?" I questioned while lifting an eyebrow.
"To --, " he placed his hand over my stomach and I knew what he was going to say, "—let you carry both you and me inside. Our first child."
He pulled his hand away from my stomach but I placed it back. I smiled to him and I it seemed to ease up his feeling.
"I know.. the days you could..p-possibly.." he gulped.
"Get pregnant?" I laughed and he exhaled and simply nodded his head.
"You may choose the date," I winked my eye.
"Wow... I never thought that I would be, uh, planning things like this," he mumbled, "—I thought I would die in order to get my revenge."
I placed my hand on his cheek and I then noticed the two lockets hanging around his neck.
"Isn't that mine?" I asked when I lifted the other one up. It was damaged.
"Yeah, the bullet hit it... I have kept it on me ever since," he smiled.
"You know, the so-called demon gave me that locket and it protected me from death... which means that the demon wasn't a demon after all," I laughed.
"Perhaps," he shrugged.
Suddenly Anna came in with Kristoff and Shawn. They all were keen on knowing how the proposal went. It felt like they had known this but I didn't.
After spending the evening with them I went to bed. The day had turned out to be full of surprises.
For a moment I lied on the bed alone, staring at the ceiling and rotating the ring around my finger. Tomorrow I need to announce the engagement and start the wedding planning so they could be two months from now.
A knock came out of nowhere and I sat up on my bed and listened. The wall moved and I saw a tall figure coming in. Quickly I turned on the light and I saw Jack, wearing a blue hoodie and brown pants.
"Sorry to sneak in like that but as your former Captain and bodyguard and the new commander of your guardsmen I'm really concerned about your safety," he grinned.
"I can keep myself safe very well, thank you," I replied quickly, "—but I wouldn't mind having you near me."
With a shrug he climbed on bed next to me. I let my head touch his shoulder and he didn't try to pull himself away like he would've somewhere back in past.
"You should get used to it, having me watching over you on each step you take for the rest of our lives," he whispered.
"Are you some sort of guardian angel now?" I laughed when I entwined my fingers with his.
"Guardian demon," he said really seriously.
We both began laughing until he got really strict looking. "I'm serious Els," he huffed but then laughed again.
"We could discuss about the past year?" I asked.
He shook his head, "I was in jail few months even though they released my dad. When I got out I had my goal to quit and move on... My place is here and I just wanted to see you but first I needed to prove myself to you."
"There was no need for that," I whispered.
"But I took you by surprise," he winked his eye.
"Yes but I just wanted to hear from you all this time," I said while trying to keep myself together.
"The problem was simple, Ursula.. but dad found out some scam about her after his release and now she's in jail. I heard about it few days ago," Jack wondered aloud.
"How was she the problem?" I insisted.
"She would've gotten you into jail as well. She is good with destroying lives. Anyway, we can discuss about the past for as much as we want after the wedding. How about some wedding planning?" He chuckled.
"I really want to invite my friends from the army too," I smiled.
Jack nodded his approval but then he smiled slyly. "No alcohol though, or that Haddock might get out of control," he laughed.
"Why?"
"Let's say he can't handle it and I'm not spending my wedding night saving him from rooftops," he smiled.
Finally he was happy, happy with me. The barrier that kept him from loving and caring seems to be gone. The man who was ready to give up for his life for revenge is now a man who is waiting for future. The things that are going to take place in the road ahead we both do not know but we're walking that path together, hand in hand and with our love as our weapon and our protection.
A/N:
