38 Fun or Love

POV Astrid

"Have you seen Captain anywhere?" Elsa asked and made me turn around.

"No! Astrid don't let go of the string!" Merida raised her voice. Quickly I redeemed my grasp on the string which would hang party flags of different shades of blue to hang on the wall.

Elsa was embracing herself while looking at me. "Just a second," I smiled as I placed the loop in the end of the string into a nail.

Merida cursed while she got down from her stool and I got down from mine.

"Seriously mom! How much more of decorations you want!" Merida whined as she left the room. I heard her mom responding something of doing things properly.

"I saw him going out a while back when he came out from basement. That bastard was quite arrogant to Merida's dad by not responding to his question," I sighed.

"Yeah, well... He has been avoiding me today," Elsa whispered.

"I thought that he does that on regular basis," I winked my eye but she seemed to be a bit down.

"Hey girls, what's going on?" Hiccup popped out. He had a set of led lights in his hands.

"I think that I'm going to get ready now... You said that Anna would come tonight right?" Elsa gulped while she tried not to cry.

"Yup, I personally called her," Hiccup laughed and then flinched when Merida's triplet brothers run in from somewhere and took the lights from his hands. "Oh man, I wanted to hang those up," Hiccup pouted.

His expression was amusing which made me giggle a bit and kiss his cheek. "You're really sweet sometimes when you're foolish," I chuckled and Hiccup blushed.

"Mm... Okay so I'll just go into the bathroom, lock myself up and shave my legs with razor since but why would I tell this when no one cares?" Elsa exhaled and turned around. I heard a sob escaping from her.

"Hiccup... She's sad and crying go and do something," I hissed to him.

"Like what?" Hiccup gulped and ruffled his hair.

"Find Captain Frost and tell him to drag his ass to Elsa or I'll do it and I won't handle him gently for hurting her," I stated.

"Okay! I'll get going," Hiccup gasped and turned around.

"Els! Hiccup goes out to look for him," I yelled after her and she glanced over her shoulder with a smile on her. She mouthed a silent thank you and I nodded my head.

When Elsa had left I began to organize the candles on the table and soon I felt someone tapping my shoulder gently. I turn around and I see Hiccup.

"Well, did you found him?" I asked.

"Uh... no... Where should I try to search first? You got any clues?" He laughed nervously and I rolled my eyes.

"Try outside, that's where he went while back," I groaned.

"Thanks!" Hiccup cheered and run out. Soon he returned again, tapping my shoulder.

"What now?" I exhaled and then I blew a hairstrand away from my forehead.

"He is on the roof," Hiccup shrugged.

"Umm... Then go up to the balcony and climb on the roof with him?" I said rather slowly so he would really get my point of going to chat with the Captain.

"Alright, I'll do my best even though he isn't the best guy to chat with," Hiccup chuckled and shrugged it off. Then he headed upstairs and Merida got back.

"Geez, first mom wanted me to help with doing some minor snacks but she got mad when I used her veggie knife to cut some pieces of meat so she ordered me back here to help. Did you hear me – she ordered me?" Merida groaned and began lighting the candles.

"Sounds like a pain," I laughed as I saved a floral piece from catching fire.

"Yeah... So why did Hiccup ditch the work? And where did Elsa go?" Merida asked while tucking her hair away from her face.

"Hiccup went to get the Captain down from the roof and chat with Elsa who is seemingly upset because Captain apparently avoids her. Some really complex stuff I guess," I shrugged.

"Oh, well let's hope that he can bring him down or I will and I'll use brutal force," Merida huffed.

"That's what I said!" I laughed and she joined my laughter after patting my shoulder.

POV Jack

How can she really forgive me? After my sister's death I swore that I wouldn't let any other girl die in such a cruel way because of being part of something so pointless as army. And I was doing fine with it, some private's quit in the middle of training and no parent had to go through the pain of losing a daughter, no brothers loosing sisters.

And then she came.

I pull my leg closer to my body as I lift my chin up to look at the sky. The clouds are blocking the view to the stars, the rooftop feels a bit slippery but this is the only place where I can be at my own silence. Besides I don't have to see her.

Falling in love was something which I refused to do, I didn't want to love anyone, I didn't want to care of anyone. However the most important thing was not to be loved by anyone, missed by someone even if I would die.

Elsa, she changed that all and it meant misery for us both. She never gave up with me, even though I tried so much to push her away with cruel manners, by trying to break her emotionally and physically. She's actually quite scary, how she can see through barriers you've built up through the years.

A glimpse of glowing moon caught my eye. Why did I ever have to be son of Colonel Moon? It was like a curse to bad things.

"Ah crap!" Someone hissed and I heard how shoes were kicking a rain drain.

"What the fuck do you want?" I said with my voice being blank and shallow. Then I took a sip from the bottle in my hands.

Beer tastes so bitter compared to wine but since there wasn't anything else it will do.

"Sorry Captain, I just need to speak with you," the nervous laughter was familiar and then I saw a hand grasping onto the ceiling and I saw how Soldier Haddock was pulling himself up. His eyes were terrified as he had nearly fallen.

"I don't need to speak with you," I muttered my response as he was walking towards me. The frosted surface of the roof was making him tremble but determinedly he kept on approaching me.

"I know but I can't help but to intervene," he hissed as he let himself drop down to his butt to sit. He whimpered a bit and it was the cherry to the cake, making me chuckle to his pathetic try to do things smoothly.

"How can my whole squad be full of idiots this year?" I laughed before I lifted the beer back to my lips for another drop of it to reach my throat.

"Maybe because our Captain is an idiot for trying to do things alone –sir," Haddock responded and made me cough.

"What the fuck?" I managed to ask even though my breath was wheezing after the liquid had gone to wrong throat.

"Listen, I do not know why or how Elsa got so into you but she's freaking crying right now. She's refusing to come out from the room and it seems like she's upset because of you," Haddock said in disgust while his eyes narrowed and glared at me.

I roll my eyes, "It is her decision if she doesn't want to go into that lame party."

"I don't think that it is the party she is concerned sir, I think it is the way of how you've been avoiding her lately," Haddock snapped and slammed the beer from my hand when I was about to take another mouthful.

"Get the hell out!" I roared to him as I froze the roof beneath him.

I see how his body begins to slide down the roof, like a kid usually goes out in nice winter day with his sleigh to go down the hill and screams in excitement. Well this time Haddock was screaming in more horrified manner when he was closing the edge. I sigh as I get up, the alcohol had made my feet a bit insecure but I quickly got down to him and I grabbed to his hand when he disappeared to the other side of the edge.

He looks so stupid while his feet are kicking the empty air.

"I t-thought...you would let me--," he said with being out of breathe, his hand grasped onto mine tightly.

"That I would let you fall and crack some bones?" I replied blankly. He nodded his head slowly while sweat was dripping down his forehead.

I began pulling him up and soon he stood back on the roof, taking support from his knees and breathing in and out.

"Stop overreacting," I ordered him.

"Overreacting? You almost threw me down from the roof!" His voice rose to higher one like someone would have their voice after almost dying.

"You were pissing me off soldier," I shrugged and went back to my spot.

"Technically your uniform is lost somewhere and you're like any normal person – well as normal as you can be concerning your jerkanism," Haddock sounded victorious while he was again climbing up the roof.

"My what?" I hissed.

"You heard me. What is the matter with you anyway?" Haddock insisted while he sat next to me.

"The fact that I am alive," I replied.

"Then you are the only one thinking like that. I think that Elsa is some reason pretty happy that you're alive but unhappy because you avoid her," Haddock muttered. He snatched the beer bottle from my hand when I pulled it out from the front pocket of my hoodie.

"That was mine," I growled.

"You're mistaken, she is yours – this is mine!" He cheered when he unopened the bottle. He took a sip from it and then he sneered from disgust. "Uhhh.. this is so bad! You drink warm beer," he shivered while he spoke and held out the bottle.

I grabbed a hold of the bottom of the bottle. "I don't drink anything warm," I said quietly while the bottle began forming frost on it and the drink began to cool down.

"Wow, that's handy!" Haddock laughed and took another sip. "Now, share your feelings like man to man," Haddock grinned and poked my side with his elbow.

"There's no way I would --," I began but then he did puppy eyes and it made me stare him for a while. "Are you fucking drunk already Haddock?" I gulped.

"Just call me Hicc-Hiccup!" He chuckled and his cheeks were a bit red.

"Name suits you though," I sighed. "You know... loving something only causes pain," I whispered while glancing up at the sky. The clouds were slowly drifting and revealing the clear sky.

"And pushing the ones you love away hurts them too," Haddock huffed.

"Keeping them close just... kills them," I managed to say out loud.

"Not if you use that feeling as a power to protect them!" Haddock chuckled.

"That got my sister killed, she took a bullet for me," I said without thinking. Probably he doesn't remember this anyway later on.

"Think it this way man! You are now the one suffering, the one who got left alive! If you would've died instead of that sister of yours, she would be the one whining about it! Now, just focus on keeping your ass okay for the sake of Elsa. Marry her, get some kids and grow old with her. Lots of love man! Hey.... can you see the little sparks and floating hearts?" Haddock laughed as he stood up.

"Geez chill down," I said while quickly getting up and grabbing to his shirt before he started to wobble towards the edge. The empty beer bottle fell from his hands and rolled down, smashing at the rocks on the ground.

"You chill!" He giggled and suddenly hugged me. "Captain, you are good guy deep down!"

"Shut up," I hissed as I tried to get the guy off but it was like he was glued on me.

"If you hurt our Elsie's feelings again every guy in our squad will come after you and neuter you... and then kill you," he sobbed and patted my back.

"You do know that it is kind of impossible for me and her to be together?" I gasped out while he was squeezing my breath away.

"Like why?" Haddock asked.

"I'm her superior, I could go into jail if army finds out and she has royal blood which I am not," I insisted while trying to squirm free.

"Stop worrying so much before things have even happened! She doesn't care and you should not either," Haddock muttered and let go.

He stares at me and nods down to the balcony where he had climbed up to the roof. "Go and get her tiger. Dance while you both are young!" Haddock cheered.

"I really don't," I began but he hushed me by placing his hand to cover my mouth.

"Dude, she locked herself up in the bathroom and she spoke of a razor blade," Haddock whispered. I threw his hand aside.

"WHAT FUCKING RAZOR BLADE?" I shouted. "Why didn't you say earlier?" I said while I flew down to the balcony.

"You didn't ask," Haddock shrugged. I groan and told him to get down from the roof in one piece before I ran to the guestroom.

I barged in and I heard water running in the bathroom. Without asking I blasted the door open and then I heard a scream.

My face turns red as I'm staring at her. She's standing in a bath tub, shaving her legs and being all naked. I pull the door close behind me.

"I thought.... the razor and.." I whispered.

She stares at the water at her feet and I glance at her body. The cuts on her skin have red shade around them, she's healing up slowly after what I did.

"Do you even like to look at me anymore? You've been avoiding me so much Captain," she whispered.

"Get down from there," I ordered and she climbed down, trying to take the towel but before she could I wrapped my arms around her.

"I can't stand looking at you --- because of what I did. It hurts me each time I face you but now... I'm ready to carry that burden to be with you," I spoke softly to her ear.

"You know, I have the ring you gave me to hold for you," she whispered and sounded cunning.

I began laughing, "I'm not that fucking ready Arendelle." I said while pushing her off from me.

She frowned and crossed her arms over her chest and I grinned. "You are the fucking woman Arendelle, it is a mans job," I smiled slyly, "—to propose such things."

"You sure?" She whispered.

"Yeah and for punishment. 100 pushups until you collapse from exhaustion – on top of me," I said while trying to hide my smile which was mischievously appearing.

She gasped and grabbed the towel which she hit me with, "How about we turn the table and you're the one on top!" She laughed and then did a sharp pull when I took hold of the towel. It made me fall to the bath tub and my clothes were soaked.

I stare at her, my hair is dripping wet and covering part of my face. "Denial is my mistake," I spoke silently.

"What?" She laughed. "Just get yourself clean and come to the party, I'm glad that Hiccup found you because we both need something nice right now," she chuckled and squeezed my cheek.

"You are such a devious little girl," I said when I grabbed to her wrist and pulled her closer. Our faces were one inch apart.

"H-huh?" She gulped.

"Devious. You sneaked into my heart and to my bed like a succubus," I sneered.

"That's mean," she whispered and tried to wiggle her hand free.

"Get used to a mean guy if you want to be mine, yes I can be rather sweet but a bit of a jerk sometimes but hear me out, loving you is something I can't deny from myself anymore at all. Heck, if people ask me of how I feel about you I'll just say that..." I said quietly, making her lean down towards me.

"Say what?" She insisted, her blue eyes were examining mine nervously.

"You'll know one day when someone asks," I grin and she slapped my chest while huffing in irritation.

"Just get ready," she snapped but I got her close enough to smack lips against hers. At first she was tense but then she relaxed, kissing me back. I closed my eyes as my free hand was now caressing her soft, just washed hair.

"You've been drinking again," she gasped when we parted from the kiss.

"Yes but only you can make me drunk," I said playfully when she wrapped towel around her and went to the beaten up looking bathroom door. She rolled her eyes at me before closing the door but she had a happy smile on her.

Haddock was snoring on the couch when we got to the party that Dunbroch's mom organized for her daughter's friends. I just don't get the friends part but that's how she thinks of people who are in the same army with her daughter.

"You seriously are going to wear that?" Soldier Hofferson spoke next to me.

"It is a hoodie, what's wrong with that Hofferson?" I questioned while my eyes followed Elsa's movement around the living room.

"Everyone else has something nicer on. We're celebrating that Elsa – you two are okay. And call me Astrid because you aren't looking like a Captain either right now," she sighed.

"There's no way I'm wearing the thing that Mrs Dunbroch brought me," I snapped my tongue while the image of the square patterned flannel shirt came back to my mind.

The door was knocked and Dunbroch's dad went to open it up. I nearly suffocated to my drink when three people walked in. My brother was in front, after him both Anna and Mushu tried to squeeze through the door. I turn my back at them quickly.

"Saw a ghost?" Astrid chuckled and looked at me mischievously.

"More like nightmare," I replied.

"ELSA!" Anna squealed and I look over my shoulder, she rushed to embrace her sister immediately. However I didn't manage to notice Shawn in time and he patted his hand on my shoulder.

"Jack, you stupid bastard. Still alive?" Shawn said and I managed to trace a hint of relief in his voice.

"Somewhat yeah," I said while turning around.

"Good. By the way, I need to speak with you and Mushu as well," Shawn said seriously while nodding towards Mushu who sneaked into another room for privacy.

"Alright," I nodded and we headed over to Mushu.

He was casually leaning against an antique table made from dark room.

"Is your brother still mind fucked?" Mushu asked from Shawn.

"He is just the regular idiot now," Shawn laughed and I gave him a death glare. How does he dare.

"Are you sure?" Mushu asked and I went to him. I stared into his eyes while I squeezed my hands into fists angrily.

"You want to try me?" I snapped.

"Yeah, the normal hot head," Mushu chuckled. "Sooo... how are you and the gal?" He winked his eye.

"It's none of your business. Why you wanted to see me... or should I ask why Colonel Moon send you?" I hissed.

"Well, the events are turning up. I got some juicy information," Mushu cheered and jumped on table.

"Go on," I insisted.

"There's a reason why we brought that noisy girl here with us... Anna? Right. Well since you escaped from Pitch Black he decided to start his destruction from kingdom of Arendelle. From what I found out he is pissed and once he manages to take the lights off from the world he will go berserk," he explained.

"Hold up. He's going to attack?" I asked.

"Yes, which is why we need to get our strongest fighters back so they're not making him stronger," Mushu cheered.

"You're sounding like dad now, " Shawn exhaled and I kind of got his point.

"Mmhmm... Did you two boys listen to me at all? Arendelle's kingdom is going to be wiped out as soon as the sun stone is stuck into this weird device thingie with all flashing lights and then it sucks the light out!" Mushu groaned.

"And his nightmare sand works in the dark quite well," I mumbled. My back was against the hardwood bookcase.

"Yeah and we need to know if you can cure bring Sandy back," Shawn insisted.

"Me? Like how..." I exhaled as I closed my eyes.

"Duh! Same as Elsa went with you, she forced you out of that nutcase state with loving you – kisses and smooches, aye?" Mushu laughed.

"Love isn't my thing, it is hers," I rolled my eyes.

"No no, dad said Elsa's inner strength is her strong love towards others—," Shawn began.

His words made me laugh, he was so in the wrong tracks right now. "Do I look like I have some love towards others?" I chuckled while mocking at them both.

"I think it worked when you loved Elsa back. She got that bad sand out from you," Shawn whispered.

"Well, not all of it. Only Sandy can fully change it and he is kind of... how would you describe it Mushu?" I said while staring at the red haired guy.

"Mind fucked sir," Mushu grinned and I nodded my approval.

"Then we need Sandy back," Shawn stated.

"But I don't love Sandy and he surely doesn't love me. Wasn't that the connection you were telling me about? You know, between me and lady Arendelle," I groaned.

"We both know that your core is fun, you can use that," Shawn smiled in a way that his eyes were nearly golden instead of brown.

"I haven't had much fun times lately," I huffed as I look down.

"You used it to help Elsa with her problem with nightmare sand one night," Mushu cheered aloud and made me to look at him.

"Have you been spying on me?" I said quietly. He began trembling while I stared at him and Shawn laughd a bit.

"Yes – I mean no. Absolutely not," Mushu laughed nervously and when I was about to tell him go to hell the door opened.

"Is there a problem?" Elsa asked quietly as she closed the door behind us.

"Actually there is," Shawn began explaining.

"Pitch is going to attack on Arendelle," I told her and she began squeezing the fabric of her dress.

"I see. How much time we have to prepare for a war?" She asked and looks determined.

"Look, I know your kingdom is precious to you but I don't think that your citizens should battle," I explained.

"No they don't, I need to do it," she whispered in more determined voice that I've ever heard before.

"Good, because I think that everyone from the army forces that's hanging in this place agrees. Or that's what Colonel Moon said," Mushu said aloud.

"What do you mean?" Elsa asked.

"He means that Captain Jackson Overland will come to lead the operation of freeing the Guardians squad with my and some others help while you protect your kingdom. Once we're all back, we will settle this battle and grudges once for all," Shawn spoke like he was determinant. The fire in his eyes was lit.

"Geez Shawn, I thought that you were the antiwar type guy in the family," I whistled.

"That was until that bastard tried to take everything I value away from me – even my selfish brother who acts so bravely and like an idiot sometimes," Shawn grinned victoriously.

Elsa chuckled a bit and I saw a glimpse of her smiling. "What the hell is so funny?" I snapped. Shawn had made me agitated by his choice of words.

"He is right, you are an idiot sometimes," Elsa smiled before leaving the room and me dumbfounded.

A/N:

Okay, typing this chapter took few days longer than I thought. Sorry about that, I quite got exited of organizing baby things, washing baby bottles and sewing things xD.

I hope that you enjoyed the update though.

I tried to update 12 hours ago but Wattpad was ofcourse going through maintenance - ugh! BTW. I'm sorry for my lack of responses to your guys PM's and to things you sent to my message board. I read them all but pregnancy is making me tired and my hands aching and the real problem is that I like to type more on my computer than with my phone AND for some reason my computer/Wattpad on web browser doesn't let me publish any comments, replies etc unlike my phone app does... so annoying!
