26 Time for Explaining
POV Elsa
A soldier. I'm a soldier and I didn't fail. Finally I'm able to learn how in reality to protect my kingdom and people who I care for.
At the moment I'm going out from the base because I'll meet up with Shawn. I'm still working on the idea of getting the two brothers back together. Misunderstanding leaded them apart. Just like Anna and I got separated, well, I actually hurt her and then I shut her out but the way Captain lied to his brother to shut him out is not different.
Shawn was already at the gate, he never came inside the base area as he is repulsed by the military. However he has still continued being a friend of mine even though I chose his brother and I stayed in the military.
"Hi," Shawn smiled faintly. He had a thick winter jacket on and a scarf around his neck. His cheeks were pink because of the cold winter air which I never saw happening to Jack who always had the same pale skin unless he was blushing.
"Nice to see you again," I grinned and joined him on the other side of the gate. Shawn just huffed and we began walking, I could see that he had been waiting some time and was getting cold.
"Anything new at work?" I asked hopefully to break the ice between us. The invisible ice that I didn't create.
"Nope. Should we go for a cup of coffee? It's freezing outside," he shivered and tucked his hands better inside his pockets when he glanced at me.
"Let's go into park. There's an ice skating ring and a stand that sells hot drinks?" I suggested and he nodded his head.
Once we got into the park we got ourselves the hot drinks and sat into bench. Shawn was somehow distant and in his thoughts.
"I heard that you and Flounder are going to bring some new songs into the bar?" I said while looking at him.
"Yeah, that's true," he sighed.
"Okay, what's wrong?" I questioned while I squeezed my mug in my hands.
He lifted his eyes from his mug and looks straight at me.
"Why did you choose my brother anyway?" Shawn said with his words dripping venom.
"W-well," I stuttered badly.
"I'm waiting." He snapped.
"A-at first I was afraid of him, then I pitied him but there... there was always something good underneath. He can be a jerk but sweet too," I gulped.
Shawn went into his thoughts but suddenly he smiled.
"So you found his soft side again?" He nearly laughed and I nodded my head.
"Then... what the heck happened to him?" He whispered. I heard the suffering in his voice, like he had been mourning his brother's passing even though he still was alive.
"He should tell you by himself, how about next weekend you would meet up with him on Saturday?" I brought the idea to surface again. I wasn't going to do it right away but now I guess the moment was right.
Shawn shook his head and threw his paper cup to ground. The coffee he barely touched spilled into the snow, coloring it. "Just tell me now, it's unlikely that he will. I deserve to know, I lost my little sister and little brother that day. Don't take the opportunity of having one of them back away from me," he insisted. There was a fire in his eyes as the will to know was carving his insides.
I sigh and place my cup to the bench. I turn so I could face him. "Shawn, I'll tell you but please let him explain by himself that day too. Don't stop listening, he told me these horrible things but... you need to know the full story," I said quietly as I took his hand.
His fingers curled around mine and he squeezed my hand. "I'm ready to know after all this time," he said securely.
Then I began explaining, telling what happened on that day. What Jack was being forced to do and how it all ended up in Emma's death when he refused. Shawn was staring emotionlessly to the ground with his eyes wide open from the shock. Once I got to the end I wasn't sure if he was listening anymore.
We sat in silence for a while before I place my hand on his knee. "Do you now realize that there's hope for him?" I asked with my voice shaking.
Shawn pushed my hand down and buried his face into his own hands. I just stared at him while he was breathing heavily. Then I realized that he was crying, gently I tangled my arms around him.
"Y-you mean he was dealing with stuff like that alone? My little brother was suffering and I didn't realize?" Shawn mumbled between his sobs. And when he looked at me it made me flinch.
His tears, I had never seen anything like that. They were like pure light, bright as day and golden. Those drops were running down his cheeks, then falling to the ground where they shined for a moment before turning off. I just stared at him in amazement.
"Shawn?" I gulped. He sniffed and wiped the remaining tears to his jacket. Then he inhaled deeply, his breath was hitching but soon he had gathered himself.
Then he smiled faintly, "I may not have the same strength as my little brother. I guess you saw my light."
"L-light?" I gulped.
Shawn just laughed bitterly and squeezed his hands into fists. "Light that's golden, it guides you through your life. Everyone has it... except Jack, you could call it purity," Shawn shrugged.
"I don't get it," I mumbled and narrowed my eyes.
"In my family the first child has always a twin. My father had a twin that died, he got Emmet's light. You can't see it in him the way you can see it in me... because I was supposed to die before I was born. The twin without powers always dies and gives his light to the one with Winter's powers," Shawn explained and seemed sad.
"Why is that light so important?" I tried still to figure out.
"Jack and I were close, we were doing stuff together... having fun you could say. He needs someone with light to be around him or he losses himself to darkness. It makes him, well.. you've seen the outcome. Anyone could lose their light at one point but he never had it," Shawn whispered.
"Then you really should try to forgive him," I insisted. People were skating at the ice near us. Nobody seemed to notice of what we were speaking of.
"I never was that mad at him even though I wanted... now I'm just mad at myself. And, I think he found his light in you," Shawn glanced at me. His smile was warm, intimidating and made me flush.
"In me? Well I'm not the cheeriest person," I laughed insecurely.
"Maybe that's why he needs you around, heck... He needs people around even though he tries to isolate himself. But, just be careful. I'm still against of how you are in the military. No one should be," Shawn said strictly.
"This means that you will meet him?" I asked and gave him a smile.
"Of course. Just give me details but now, I should get you back to base because I've got some work to do," he told me and got up.
Shawn brought me back to the base area. He was cheerful, hopeful in a way that I haven't seen him being before.
"See you around sister-in-law," Shawn grinned mischievously.
My cheeks warmed up. "Uh, why would you say something like that?" I gulped.
Shawn winked his eye, "Don't let my brother make you wait for too long. I mean he is doing indecent things with you so he should take responsibility... no matter what kind of ass he is."
"Wait, I don't think that he wants to," I mumbled. Shawn doesn't know my real status, my real identity as the Queen of Arendelle.
Shawn just laughed and left while waving his hand as goodbye. It was like he didn't want to hear the word 'no'. I sigh and go back inside the base.
It would be dinner time soon and I'm heading to the Mess building. There are paths in the snow right were the walking routes were before winter came.
While walking I pulled out my locket from under my jacket. I open it up and look at his picture. He wasn't smiling in it but I'm always able to see his clear cyan blue eyes, his thick wind wisped silvery white hair whenever I want.
"I wish that you could be happy again," I whispered as I touched his picture.
Then I heard a loud whistle that split the air. Something smacked against my back and I turn around, there's no one but I see the remains of the snowball that hit me on the ground. The whistle came again from up.
"Arendelle," a voice spoke from above where I'm staring at. It was Captain, he had gone to a high branch of the nearby tree. He nodded his head up in suggesting way and reached his hand towards me.
I swallowed the lumpy feeling from my throat, my trembling fingers stuffed the locket back inside my jacket as I began walking towards the tree. His fingers entwined with mine when our hands touched, he pulled me up easily and then we fell to lay on the wide branch. The tree was an old maple tree.
I gasped when he waved his hand in the air, the trees smaller branches began frosting and then covering from powder snow. Soon we were inside this snowy tent, the rays of the sun were coloring into ghostlike blue. All this time I remained silent, resting against his chest while he was underneath me.
"I called your name few times," Captain mumbled.
"I.. I didn't hear you," I replied and felt little bit afraid.
"You think?" He chuckled and gave me a grin.
"Why were you calling me?" I insisted.
"I was resting in this tree and saw you coming this way. I thought, hey, why not to rest with her?" Captain said playfully.
I frowned, "Nesting? Are you a bird?"
It made him laugh for some reason. "Geez Elsa, wash your ears. I said resting," he chuckled and then silenced. He was staring into my eyes.
"I'm sorry," I whispered. I truly had heard him wrong.
He had already closed his eyes and his breathing was getting slower. Slowly I place my head back against his chest, his heartbeat is calm.
"Jack?" I said quietly.
"What? Didn't you moron realize that I'm trying to have a nap," he mumbled. However he didn't sound angry or irritated, instead he opened up his other eye.
"H-have you ever thought of yourself in... high position?" I gulped.
"Well I'm a Captain already and that means I'm higher in position than you," he muttered.
"I meant... even higher. M-maybe Commander... Colonel...or," I continued nervously. Now he was staring at me seriously.
"Or?" He asked blankly.
"King," I managed to gulp out. Silence was again between us while I stared at him.
"Nah, I haven't," he replied after a while. My breath hitched when I realized that I haven't been breathing while I waited for his response. I bury my face against his chest quickly, feeling of embarrassment takes over me and I shiver.
Then he lifted my face, he was looking at me with his daze being dreamy. "I may not be the knight in shining armor but I belong to you Queen," he whispered and then began kissing me. His arms went around me and embraced me gently.
I was out of breath after the kiss. He wasn't speaking but the thing he said before was indulging me. I sat on his lap while my trembling hands were opening up the buttons of his green jacket. All that time he laid still, looking at me with his face turning redder each moment. His body tensed up when I finally got my hand underneath his shirt, I leaned down to kiss him again. He tasted like mints like he always does.
My fingers ran through his hair, messing it more. His chest was going up and down vividly in the base of his fastening breathing. Gladly the snow was sheltering us from sight and we were moving further quietly. I placed his other hand on my hip, then he was more than happy to caress over my hip and back, sliding his hand underneath my jacket.
"Jack, you--," I began.
"Will you--," Jack was speaking over me but both of us got interrupted by his phone that was ringing. Reluctantly I moved away from sitting over him. I had noticed the tightening of his pants and I bit my bottom lip while he took his phone from his pocket. He cleared his throat before taking the call.
He was getting some instructions apparently, he was just replying simply with 'yes' and 'no'.
After the call he began buttoning his jacket again, he was serious again.
"Did something happen?" I asked carefully. He gave me an angry glare.
"We are going to get instructions for a mission," he mumbled and suddenly a strong wind blew the snow around us away. Now I could see the base again and not the walls of our snowy tent in the tree.
"We?" I gulped.
"Yeah, I'll fucking get mad if you mess up," he muttered and pulled me close.
"I wouldn't do it on purpose," I insisted, my voice was shaky as I was afraid of him hating me.
He just sighed, "I meant that I can't deal with you possibly getting hurt. Better get going." He groaned and carried me down from the tree.
"See you in the Den. Bring rest of the squad and you've got ten minutes," he snapped and began running towards the den. I didn't have time to say anything else to him as I was in a hurry too to find the others.
POV Hiro
"Captain told you that we're going for a mission, huh?" Hiccup asked from Elsa.
"He did. We need to hurry to the Den," Elsa spoke fast. We fastened our steps and then we went up the stairs.
We went inside and there was just Colonel Moon standing, waiting.
"Ah, I see that you arrived. Please take a seat, Captain's will arrive shortly. I made them get some equipment for me," Colonel Moon chuckled.
I sat on a wooden chair that was part of a half circle, each seat was facing the spot where Colonel Moon was. Elsa sat to a two-seated couch next to me. Flynn and Hiccup were sitting on similar wooden chairs on my left.
The door creaked open behind us and we saw how they were bringing in a projector and a file. They also carried some guns and suits to a table nearby. All of them were looking serious.
"Close the door Sandy?" Colonel Moon asked. Captain Sandy nodded his head and did as he was asked to.
Captain Toothiana sat on the table next to the pile of ammunition. Captain North pulled one more wooden chair to sit on. I glanced at Captain Frost, his eyes were almost like examining us when we sat on our chairs.
My eyes flashed open, "G-get up to honor the Captain!" I gulped aloud.
"Uh, no need to," Captain Frost mumbled and pushed us back down. Then he sat on the remaining seat on the couch, right next to Elsa.
Captain Bunnymund brought himself and Captain Sandy some chairs too. All this time Colonel Moon waited for everyone to be ready. Then he cleared his throat.
"It seems that we have a mole inside base. This is why we're doing this briefing in secret. Captain Frost personally said that he would trust his life in your hands so this is why you four are trusted. Don't ruin that trust," Colonel Moon spoke highly. Something in his words made shivers go up on my spine.
"In any case we need someone to maintain The Sleigh while you're out on the mission that I'm about to give you. Haddock is probably the best to keep the plane working. And we need your cunning nature to surprise the enemy Fitzherbert," Colonel Moon mumbled while walking in front of us.
Hiccup and Eugene agreed to what Colonel Moon said. Then he asked me to go with Elsa and Captain Frost to be extra eyes on the field.
"So what's the mission Moon?" Captain Bunnymund questioned while crossing his arms.
"Last time didn't go that well," Captain Toothiana sighed. Her words made everyone to glance at each other worryingly.
"I think that I found a place where they might be creating that black sand which poisoned my son—I mean Captain Overland. We need to find it, destroy it and get away," Colonel Moon explained. Then he started the projector and aimed it to the white wall in front of us.
He showed us the location and then our positions. Now it was time for the operation to begin.
