23 Time for Truth

POV Shawn

I wave my hand to her when she gets outside the gates of the base. Quickly she walks towards me with a smile on her face.

"Shawn, I'm glad that you could make it!" She sighed in relief. I laugh and lift up the collar of my jacket, it's rather cold outside and my neck is freezing.

"No problem, so to the shopping mall?" I grinned as we were walking through the piles of snow. She nodded her head and then she looks at the crystal blue sky.

"I'm just wondering still... why did you get back into military? It's just that you left me a message of not coming back when you left from Burgess to your own home," I muttered and ruffle my hair before putting my hands back to the warmth of my pockets.

"I told you already. It's something that I need to do and soon we will be called as soldiers," she said in enthusiasm.

"Mmmh... that's what I'm most worried about. Then you have to go to field," I sighed when we were almost there. We saw the smallish mall coming out around the corner. Finally some warmth.

"I can handle myself," she said quickly, a slight touch of irritation was lingering in her voice.

"Jack is what I worry about. I'm not sure if he can keep his squad in safety... also I don't approve the fact that you're taking likings towards him," I said to her and I glance at her. She bit her bottom lip nervously as she does always when I bring out a subject that's hard on her.

"You should speak with him. There's something you don't know," she said quietly and clenched her hands when I opened up the mall door to her. She went inside first.

"That you're sleeping with him? Trust me, I know you and him too well," I snapped. An awkward silence landed between us and I was sure that she would ran off but she didn't.

"I didn't mean that... but he should tell you what really happened back then," Elsa gulped.

"When?" I insisted when we headed to our usual cafeteria.

"When Emma...," Elsa began but quieted down quickly. Her eyes were sad now as we sat to one of the tables.

"Wait," I gasped and stopped her. "He told you what happened?" I spoke quickly as I grabbed to her shoulders.

"You're hurting me Shawn," Esa whispered. Her eyes were terrified. "He needs to tell you, I could arrange you two to meet?" She smiled a bit but I shook my head.

"He wouldn't come and I'm not sure if I even want to see him," I spoke bitterly. He had done too many things I disapprove with.

"We're friends, aren't we? Please... try it," she insisted, her eyes were looking at me determinedly.

"Whoa... says the woman who is screwing him?" I hissed and lean over the table.

"That's really not nice to say," Elsa said with a slight sob.

"He is messing your head and that I sure want to see," I replied to her coldly as I lean back on the chair. A lady came to ask what we want and I told her to bring the usual order for us. Soon she brought Elsa her hot chocolate and me my regular coffee.

"So, you're coming?" She said after a moment of silence. I nodded my head.

"Just say when," I mumbled, she nodded her head and gave a faint smile.

"You two will make up," Elsa sighed and took a sip from her hot chocolate.

I look while people are passing us. The sales after Christmas have begun and people are mindlessly shopping things they don't actually even need.

"Ummm... so when is your birthday?" Elsa asked nervously. I look back at her and she was toying anxiously with the napkin that was between her fingers.

"Don't try and buy me some stupid gift from the sales," I grinned. "I surely don't need a garlic crusher, I use a knife," I chuckled and Elsa laughed a bit with me.

"Anyway, when is it?" She asked again and smiled warmly.

"31st January," I smiled slyly.

"Wait... end of this month? We have our winter exam then," Elsa gulped. Her face went pale.

"Well good luck to that," I laughed a bit and I lifted the coffee cup to my lips. The smell of rich, smooth black coffee filled my nose and I took a sip.

"How does it feel to turn out to be 26?" She said teasingly and then I burst out my drink. I kept on coughing and staring at her, she had that devious smile.

"What? I'm going to be 24," I said while coughing. I think I inhaled some of that coffee, it stings.

Elsa frowned, "No... wait... I thought that you and Jack are twins?" She whispered.

I wipe my mouth with a napkin and glance at her surprised but then I realized. "Yeah I am... has he been telling you that he is 25?"

"Uh, yeah?" Elsa mumbled.

That's when laughter rose from deep inside of me and I laughed like a maniac.

"SHAWN!" Elsa said with lecturing tone.

I began calming down but I still chuckled a lot, "Hah, he has been telling that lie for few years now. He is always 25 because he wants that he is taken seriously. Oh my... haha."

Slowly I got a grip of myself while Elsa was wondering things by herself. One moment ago I was laughing at my brother, his usual kind of pranks but now the hate towards him returned. It felt weird for not to want to kill him for one slight moment. Quickly I empty my coffee while looking down.

"Sorry but that's the truth," I mumbled quietly.

"I see... what would you like for your birthday present? I could give it to you before I go out for the exam?" Elsa smiled a bit. She had clearly noticed the change in mood.

"You quitting the army... or just something you have selected for me," I grinned to her. She had flashed her eyes wide open from shock when I told her to quit but I didn't let her say a word before I continued.

"Could you leave me shopping by myself?" She asked but I shook my head.

"Nah... Jack sent me a letter that I need to keep an eye on you since you're threatened... I might not have powers or military training but nothing will happen to you when you're with me. Even though he is a bastard I trust to his word," I explained. She nodded her head and sighed.

"Fine, I'll ask my sister to send something," she smiled as she got up. We began going through the crowded stores in the mall.

POV Eugene

Punzie caught me up when I was getting out from the Mess. They just deserved the evening snack and I was heading to showers and bed.

"Hey Eugene," Punzie smiled. She was wearing a warm winter coat and her hair was flowing over her shoulder.

"Hi, I thought that you would be in bed already," I grinned. I was the last one to leave because they always let you get seconds from the leftovers.

"I was just about to... but I need to tell you something," she whispered and pulled me close. Our cheeks were against each other, the snowflakes were falling down from the sky and could be seen in the light of street lights. The air was so cold that our breath was steaming.

"What is it?" I whispered.

"The older soldiers told me about a dare for newbies. We already did it and so should your squad," Punzie mumbled mysteriously and I raise my eyebrow.

"Wait... what dare?" I gulped.

She giggled a bit and I concentrated on listening. Then she began talking quietly again, "Break into file room. Then take your squad leaders file and read it through together, then return it. We did it for Captain Toothiana and it was enlightening!" Punzie cheered.

"I don't think that it's a good idea," I told her as I pulled away.

Then I smile her a bit and gave a kiss on her cheek, "Good night sweetie." I was about to leave but she pulled me back.

"It's part of becoming a soldier! Ritual!" Punzie insisted with fire in her eyes. I sighed and nodded my head.

"Fine, we'll do it tonight," I whispered and she seemed satisfied. We wished goodnight and then we left to our own barracks.

However I'm going to do the stealing alone. Then there's much less risk on getting caught. I'll just bring the file for everyone to read.

While walking towards the barrack holding the file room a shiver runs up my spine. Stealing Captain Frost's file and reading it feels like a bad idea but... if it is necessary then we gotta do it.

When everyone was safely asleep I was sneaking outside the file room. It was easy to pick up the lock, hide whenever I heard something suspicious. Soon I was holding the papers and heading back to my own barrack. Gladly the lights on Captain Frost's barrack were off.

"Hey, wake up," I urged everyone as I pointed them with the light of my flashlight.

"What! I was sleeping," Hiro groaned as he turns around on his bed. Everyone was rubbing their eyes.

"Why are you dressed like that?" Elsa questioned while she stared at me.

I grinned and lifted up the file. "Well I was told about a dare that every soldier should do. So should we take a look at who Captain Frost is?" I cheered.

"No you didn't," Hiccup gulped out as he sat down.

"Yeah I did! Here are the files of our Captain," I winked my eye and then I began handing the papers to everyone.

"Okay! Just say when you find something interesting," I encouraged them as I began going through my pile.

"This is so wrong," Elsa whined as her shaking hands put on her flashlight and then she began glancing through the papers she had.

"Whoa! Colonel Moon trained him into using those wind and snow powers. Captain inherited themfrom Colonel," Hiro gasped aloud.

"Listen to this!" I said quickly. "Took piano lessons since he was three. Been in high class schools and clubs. Who would believe... I mean that language," I said mockingly when I turned the page.

"Captain has a twin and had a sister," Elsa read aloud quietly.

"Anything on your paper pile Hiccup?" I questioned.

"Wow... Expert in martial arts, sniper, dog trainer... Been in who knows how many battles and been using sick bed a lot because of it," Hiccup muttered.

"Mm... I found out that he might be gay. No relationships," I chuckled.

"That doesn't necessarily mean that," Hiro groaned.

"Anything on yours Els?" I asked and turn to look back at her. We guys had gathered into circle at the corridor in excitement but she kept on her bed, reading quietly.

Then I froze. Someone was sitting next to her.

"Yeah, anything interesting Private Arendelle?" A deep voice spoke and I point the flashlight towards the place.

Elsa startled and dropped the papers she was holding. Her eyes were staring at Captain Frost who had sneaked inside and sat next to her. He was looking down at the papers that were on the ground. Rest of us hid the remaining papers behind our backs.

"No use Fitzherbert. I know how this squad stole my personal files but this was certainly interesting," he spoke coldly as he got up.

Then he glanced down at shocked Elsa. "She was just about to tell you how I sometimes experience sexual harassment which I never report. Nice, embarrassing fact. Right?" He said sarcastically. His voice was dripping venom and bitterness.

"I'm sorry Captain. I wasn't going to tell about that," Elsa whispered. Her voice was shivering from fear.

"Just go on and tell them how I failed on a mission that was deadly towards my little sister? I mean you got the juiciest part of the file?" He snapped and walked to the corridor.

"Captain," Elsa began again but then he looks her over his shoulder.

"Shut the fuck up," he yelled and then he glared at everyone.

"No matter which one of you stole the file. This is the punishment. One of the supply bags that you get to winter exam will be filled with useless crap. No tent, no food and so on. One of you will suffer the consequences and you may not look into the bags to see which one is the bad one. You can't help each other and one of you will fail the test. Just one week and I can see you suffering so badly that it makes things... fun," he said coldly with a scaring amusement in his voice.

Then he left, after telling us that we should skip breakfast. He made Hiro to gather the file which he then took with him.

"God dammit Eugene!" Hiccup groaned and jumped to his bunk.

"Hey, I'm sorry... I didn't know he was following me," I whispered faintly.

"That was a stupid idea! Who told it to you anyway," Hiro muttered.

A sob came from Elsa's direction and I glance towards her. She had buried herself inside her blanket.

"Just sleep already and stop!" She shrieked and it was enough to make each one of us get to bed and turn off our flashlights.

Her sobs and crying herself to sleep made me regret my decision. I just hope that I'm the one who gets the faulty equipment and not her. She has been trying so much to get through the training and now I did this.

A/N:

This time no POV from Elsa or Jack. Were the ones from Shawn and Eugene satisfying? ^^

Guess whose POV is next... Jack or Elsa?

BTW. What do you like the plot so far? And the twins, Jack and Shawn, how you feel of their characters? :3
