20 Guarding the Treasure

POV Elsa

He really did give me a permit to leave from the base for my birthday which is tomorrow, 21st of December. I was born in the day of Winter Solstice. Now I'm on my way to thank him for it because when someone in my status has their 21st birthday it is always a big thing. I found out that he had gone to office barrack building where higher ranked superiors are like Colonel Moon.

It's just that I feel so out of place while I'm walking on the corridor. The doors and the frames are made from dark wood as well as the wall panels which reach half towards the ceiling. Otherwise the walls are depressing green color which reminds me poison that takes your joy of life away.

Suddenly I noticed how Captain Frost was pacing in the room which was in the end of the corridor. The door was narrowly open and he was apparently meeting Colonel Moon whose office it was. I found it out from the name tag in the wall.

I sat waiting on a chair outside Colonel Moon's office. Then I would thank Captain Frost for keeping his promise. My ride will arrive in less than hour and then I'm going to home this time. Not into our leisure time mansion which is nearer the base.

Since the door was open I couldn't avoid hearing parts of their conversation.

"Dad!" Captain Frost groaned. His voice was nearly shaking.

"I'm really happy that you two are getting along better like I wanted you to be," Colonel Moon said warmly.

"I'm still not happy about this. I can't work with her, she's--," Captain Frost was panting out. He was clearly upset.

"You should still continue working with your relationship with her. She is going to be your partner," Colonel Moon continued.

"Private Arendelle is not ready, way not ready," Captain Frost yelled angrily.

My heart began beating rapidly. They were talking about me, Colonel Moon wants me and Captain to get along for some reason.

"No matter if you like it or not, she's your new assist on field and will replace Baby Tooth," Colonel Moon stated and mentioned Captain's sister.

"Well I don't," Captain grunted.

"Take it as an order, be friends with her like I told you to do before."

"Fine."

That was the point when I was done listening. He never was showing me kindness, it was all an act and an order to him. Done by his father.

Quickly I got my things and went to pickup place where limousine was waiting. I didn't bother to change my clothes. I thought that I was helping him by being nice to him but he was deceiving me, that cold asshole.

I hate him.

The day changed into another and Anna came to wake me up in my room. She jumped to the queen sized bed with pillars and started laughing. She sang me 'Happy birthday' and shut me into embrace when I sat down.

"Thank you Anna," I whispered even though the treacherous person from yesterday was still bothering my mind.

"I'm so happy that you'll stay here now. But why did you quit the training?" She questioned.

"None reason which should concern you," I smiled to her reassuringly. Before leaving from the base I had gone to inform that I won't come back. For the sake of myself I have to let it go, it was just a silly girls idea anyway.

"Oh," Anna pouted. I smiled to her slyly and then I waved my left hand in the air and I gave her a bouncing miniature snowman with charcoals as eyes and mouth.

"Awww! I love these snowgies!" She squealed and took it into a hug.

I began laughing while I used the opportunity to get out from bed. "I know, last summer I kind of did a bunch of them by accident on your birthday," I chuckled.

"Yes! It was the best birthday ever," she cheered and I rolled my eyes to her when I began getting ready. The party would be later tonight. It's my 21st birthday where my engagement, which is done from political reasons, would be also announced.

"I enjoyed it a lot too," I replied while I braided my hair into loose French braid. I missed this hairstyle a lot while I was in training.

"Ummm.... I have to tell you something," Anna laughed out nervously all of a sudden.

"What?" I questioned while I changed my night gown into a dress. It was sapphire blue and reminded me a lot of the ice dress which I made once, even though this one is shinier and is more ballgown like.

"You will have your own personal bodyguard tonight. That's what the advicers said," Anna explained.

I shrugged my shoulders, "Whatever if that guard stays out of my sight."

Anna helped me putting on my crown and so I could have a small moment before going downstairs for breakfast. The bodyguard would follow me downstairs. It's just so silly that our advicers don't think that I can handle things by myself.

My door was knocked and I circle my way around my arms chair where I sit.

"Come in," I spoke highly.

The door creaked open and I see how someone begins stepping inside. His shoe is shiny black and judging from the pants he is wearing Arendelle's uniform. A uniform with a set of pants and jacket which are so bright silver that they almost seem white and with shimmering golden trimmings and shoulder pads.

My eyes flashed open and my jaw dropped when my he walked in. He whistled on high note while his glacier blue eyes were scanning around the room and his hand went through his silver white fluffy hair and then he corrected his position by standing in front of me. His eyes were now looking straight at me.

I nearly jumped up from my chair, my heart is beating rapidly and a storm of emotions is circling inside me like a tornado which is about to wipe out the whole area. He just dares to stand in front of me with his feet a little separate, his arms bended behind his back.

"Arendelle, I always knew you were rich. But a fucking Queen?" Captain Frost spoke like it was nothing.

"What are you doing here? You do know that I'm in much higher position than you are soldier," I snapped at him angrily. That traitor dared to come and stand in front of me, that cunning fox who was always doing just things because he was ordered to.

"Hah, I wouldn't have treated you any different even if I would've known that Private Arendelle was actually the Queen of Arendelle. That was really clever coming up with a last name," he mocked at me and grinned.

I could pierce him with ice spike right now.

"You didn't respond," I mumbled and I clenched my hands into fists to avoid killing him with my powers.

"I'm your bodyguard. You just vanished from the base yesterday Your Highness," he said and his words were clearly irritating him.

"Well, now you should vanish," I ordered.

"I can't, I'm your bodyguard tonight My Lady," he muttered and looks me beneath his eyebrows. That was the last drop and now my glass is full, letting the angry seas dwell everywhere.

"I HATE YOU!" I shouted at him with my voice cracking.

"What?" He replied blankly and his arms went to rest against his sides.

"I said.. I HATE YOU!" I yelled again and I took one step closer to him. My whole presence was dripping of rage towards him.

Suddenly he walks closer, closing the gap between us. "Say it again Arendelle," he said quietly while looking into my eyes.

"I HATE--," I began again but then his hand hidden by a white glove touched my cheek and his lips went to mine. He is kissing me gently for a short while.

My eyes were watering up when he slowly pulled away.

"I hate you," I then nearly cried to him.

He just flashed a smile. "Say it one more time," he whispered and before I could say anything he smashed his lips on mine. They were moving against mine, fitting to them perfectly and feeling so soft. My heart was beating irregularly as his hand was caressing my back.

Again he parted from me and his eyes were looking at me keenly.

"I h-hate y-you so much," I stuttered and then I gulped when a sob nearly escaped from me. I hit his chest while my own chest is aching. In an instinct my hands went to his shoulders.

"Say it again?" He mumbled close to my ear and then he lifted my chin up.

My cheeks warmed up when he kissed me again. He smells so good and the feeling of this is overwhelming. Each move his lips make against mine are like he is asking permission to continue, into deeper kiss. I let my feelings take control, kissing him back felt right.

When he felt my lips move slightly against his he wrapped his arms around me into embrace. Our lips were in perfect sync and everything else disappeared. My heart was fluttering, my legs were turning into jell-o but the way he holds me is the best. The warmest embrace, the most protecting one and just for me.

Then he parted.

"Well?" He exhaled while being out of breathe.

"I..I.." I began and my words were lost, then he pecked a quick kiss on my cheek and I gasped while closing my eyes.

"I love you Jack," I said really quickly and I threw my body against his, making him support me.

Then he pulled me a bit away from him, lifting up my face so our eyes could meet again. Then he cupped my both cheeks. "I wish you wouldn't have said that," he said quietly and I could see some sadness mixed up with hope and affection in his sparkling blue eyes.

I took his hands from my face and I took his gloves off. Then I placed his right hand on my cheek again and we shared another kiss.

"I'm at your service tonight Highness," he practically laughed after he managed to wiggle his way free.

I nodded my head to him while my heart was still pounding rapidly inside my chest. I just had confessed something to him, something that my heart had desired for a long time. Love is powerful thing and now my heart is beating towards him.

Quickly I tucked a hairstrand behind my ear while I listen to his footsteps echoing on the corridor. He is straight behind me, following me like a bodyguard should. I guess I want more from him though, clearing up my mind and realizing it took some time.

Anna ignored the fact that I had a bodyguard tailing me wherever I went. Captain Frost was practically my shadow like any castle guard would be. However I on the other hand, I was awfully aware of his presence the whole day while I was getting birthday greetings from the people of the town.

At the ball which was done for my honor people were buzzing around me. Mostly the men who had come here because I was still free for marriage unlike my sister who is with Kristoff, even in this party. Captain Frost was keeping his distance from me and sometimes I saw him standing in the edges of the large room and keeping his eyes on me.

The time flew fast and it was time to announce my engagement. Then I would do a dance with my fiancé. Carefully I go to a stage where my royal chair is placed and the music pauses. Everyone's attention was on me.

"Tonight is special since as the Queen of Arendelle I have come to the rightful age of thinking marriage due to old traditions. My royal advicers have been weighing up the options of who my future husband should be from all of you who have approached me on the matter," I began. My heart was roaming inside my chest as I look at the anxious bachelor's. Anna was concerned while she stood next to me, she knew that I'm not the type of person who chooses someone who I've never met.

I look back at the crowd while I'm keeping a break on my speech. My eyes wander around until I notice him standing straight in front, against the wall on the far side of the room. Captain Frost is blank on his face, there's no trace of emotion of any kind.

"I've decided to chose none," I spoke and Anna cheered next to me and gave me a strong hug.

The crowd was chatting loudly, some of the much older aristocrats were in shock for my news. Saying things like it's absurd and outrageous. However the men were now gathering around the stage. Now my engagement dance turned into available one for anyone.

"Let's continue the celebration," I told as boldly as I could.

When I got down from the stage I tried to avoid the guys who were now acting like animals. Cornering me and trying to get the dance from me.

I tried to fled to drink table and ignore them the best I could. Then someone grabbed my shoulder.

"My Queen, would you give this dance to me?" A man with long greased black hair asked. He was muscular.

"I'm sorry but I can't. Mister?" I smiled politely.

"James B. Hook and I ask you again," He laughed and took my hand and began leading me to dance floor.

Now the band began playing the song which was meant for me when I do my first dance with a man of my age.

"I don't want to. Please let go," I pleaded but he didn't obey me.

"Let go of her Majesty," A harsh voice spoke. I glance over my shoulder and I see Captain Frost.

"Or what? You should just scatter, stick," Hook mocked at him.

"Do you want to dance with him?" Captain Frost looks at me questioning and I shook my head.

"Let go," he ordered Hook and started unsheathing the sword which was tied to his waist by belt. It was part of Arendelle's uniform too.

"Okay, no need to be violent," Hook gulped and let go of me. The band continued playing while I was still standing on dance floor. Captain Frost put the sword back and then he bowed at me.

"Mind dancing with me? I think that they won't let you be until you dance with someone," Captain Frost asked and offered his hand. I took it and my cheeks flushed.

My left hand went to his shoulder and my right took his left hand. His right arm wrapped around my waist and he pulled me close. A smile crept on his face when he began leading me on dance floor which got cleared from other guests who were now just watching at us.

He had a good ear to music, every step and move floated with the flow of music. Even the butterflies which were flying in my stomach were also dancing. Again he smelled like mints, so sweetly that it made me smile to him shyly. I just kept watching at his eyes that were sparkling much more than any stars in the wintery night sky.

I was sinking in to this charm of his. Despite of being so rude and harsh towards me he had enchanted my heart by his mysterious way of concealing himself and now I swore that I'm going to open his inner gate and set him free like Anna did for me. For Love.

When the song ended I curtsy him and he nodded his head. Then he turned his back at me without saying anything. He had just saved me from being surrounded by dance hungry single men by giving that dance himself to me. It isn't satisfying that the only man who I would like to be around me doesn't want to be close to me.

I went to Anna who was looking at me in confusion.

"You danced with your bodyguard?" Anna muttered.

"Yes, he saw that I wasn't comfortable around these men so he helped me out. Could you ask the servants sent me some snacks to my room? I feel tired and I think that I need to go and prepare for night already," I smiled to Anna.

"Sure, you've been pushed through a lot in that military training anyway. Isn't it nice to get a break from that jerk?" Anna laughed.

I turn my head from staring at Captain Frost to look at Anna. "What did you say?" I questioned since I wasn' focusing at all.

"Nothing--," she giggled and touched my arm, "—go to rest. I'll handle the guests with Kristoff." I thanked her and I began walking towards the exit.

"Her Majesty will now go for her rest. The celebration will continue however," they announced when I went to the door and I waved. Captain was tailing right after me, not letting me slip out of his sight like I wished for.

When I got to my door Captain Frost opened it up for me. "I'll stay and guard behind your door through the night. Missy," he grinned mischievously.

"Come in Captain," I ordered him and he sighed and followed after me. Couple moments later the servants brought some fruits, biscuits and hot chocolate in a tea pan which we use here in hot chocolate uses only.

I got us both mugs and I suggested him to sit on the couch which was part of the coffee table area in my room. Being isolated in my room had provided lots of things in the room like own small dining table, sitting area and bathroom. Well I guess that the future Queen could have had it all anyway but this was my home, my isolated room.

I placed the mugs on the table and I was about to grab the pan and pour us both some chocolate but Captain was faster. He poured my mug full and was then trying to place the pan down.

"Please, pour one for yourself too," I urged him and then I followed with my gaze how he filled the mug in front of him. Then he leaned back on his couch. It's so strange to see a man in my room, there hasn't been one since my father died.

Captain was staring down when I took first sip from my mug. It cooled down nicely in my hands.

"Why did you just leave?" He mumbled and looks up. "You were supposed to have a bodyguard with you when you leave from the base but--," he continued and his voice cracked. Then he took a pause and inhaled deeply.

"I got mad, that's all," I replied and then I continued drinking my hot chocolate. He didn't say a word but he reached to grab an orange from the fruit plate and then he was peeling it slowly. There was no smile on his face, his other leg was touching the edge of the coffee table and he was leaning back on the couch.

"Your bodyguard missed the flight," he told me and lifted his eyes. "That's why I needed to come because I know how to fly," he whispered and threw me the peeled orange. I barely managed to catch it.

"It is not my fault that you were always pretending to be nicer towards me because of your – Colonel Moon's orders. You betrayed me. Why are you such a jerk anyway? Your sister would certainly be mad," I yelled at him when I got up.

"Geez, now I know where you got that attitude to speak against me when you joined military. Queen's can do all they want? Huh?" He said sarcastically, his voice was bitter and there was no other possibility than I just hurt him by bringing up his sister.

"I need to apologize. I guess that my time in military has made me rude--," like you I wanted to add but I didn't, "—in any case I don't need a bodyguard."

Captain began laughing and then grinned. His confident attitude made me startle.

"In any case you said something before your birthday celebration," he said and looks at me from under his eyebrows. A devious smirk spreads to his face and that makes me feel uncomfortable.

"Y-you imagined it," I whisper and embrace myself. Suddenly I feel really cold as cold sweat rises on my forehead. Avoiding his eyecontact is tricky.

"In either way, Private , no matter what you feel... never try to do otherwise from my command. I really tried that we... uh... that we wouldn't have to work together and you would just quit for your own good. Now I'm asking that never disobey me in any situation--," he told me seriously.

"What are you saying?" I asked from him. My voice was stronger this time and I raised my eyebrow.

"I'm saying that you might be my partner in the Guardians one day. Colonel Moon is sure that you're the best candidate for co-operating me... something about me being tricky," he chuckled and stood up. Quickly he emptied his mug and came to stand in front of me.

"Oh, so you actually don't want me to quit?" I slowly started realizing his words.

"Sort of yeah... Just do as I say and we might get along. Well, if I order a massacre towards women and children you can question me, heck, knock me out if you have to," he smiled and signaled me to stand by curling his fingers couple times.

When I stood up he circled his finger in air and ordered me to turn around. As he wanted I did as he ordered me to do.

"Lift up your hair," he said quietly and I told as he told me. I lifted my French braid over my shoulder and I heard a small wooden clap coming from behind me.

At first I felt something cool on my chest and then going around my neck. My heartbeat increased and I reach my fingers to my chest. Something smooth and metallic is over it and I feel how Captain's fingers are clasping the necklace behind my neck.

"I couldn't arrive to a birthday party without a gift. Right?" His voice was surprisingly soft. I quickly walk towards my dressing mirror, it's hard not to seem too enthusiastic right now.

He had hang a white gold locket on me. It was oval shaped and sparkling. I bit my bottom lip as I lift it up and open it.

"Empty," I spoke aloud in slight disappointed voice. There were places for two pictures on the inside. I turn it around and I read the text in my mind.

"'For Angel'," I read the text, then I gasped and turn around.

"From a demon... Put anything you desire inside it. However I've given you permit to stay at home over Christmas with one condition," he explained. I saw heat rising to his cheeks and how he moved his weight from feet to another.

I squealed and ran to hug him, he squirmed like a snake when someone's trying to kill it but he eventually relaxed. "Geez, you didn't even hear the condition," he groaned when I let go.

"Tell me it Captain," I said and a smile spread on my face. I can spend Christmas with Anna and Kristoff.

"I'll stay as your bodyguard. Unfortunately I gave your previous guard a holiday because he missed that private plane of yours, your Highness," he said and bowed a bit which surprised me. Sometimes he seems to honor me but I'm not sure if it's his way to insult me.

"I guess I can deal with it," I whispered and my cheeks heated up. "Umm... about the night," I gulped.

"Oh yeah, good night. I'll guard behind your door," he mumbled and turned around. He walks straight to the door in fast pace.

"Stop!" I ordered and he froze to his feet with his hand on the handle. I used the moment and grabbed the thing I needed from my desk.

When he turned around I spoke insecurely, "Smile!" His eyes widened when my camera flashed.

"What the hell are you doing," he said coldly.

"Uh... I need a p-picture to your gift of who gave it to me," I stuttered and then I sigh and go to my couch were I collapse to sit. Gosh I suck with people. He just kept silent.

"I am sorry. I guess that the years with barely any other people's contact made me a bit... tense," I whispered.

"Really now," he said blankly and opened up the door. I bury my face into my hands and I beat myself mentally.

"Warn me next time, that flash nearly got me blind," he said and closed the door. My heart began increasing in the power and speed of beating.

"Conceal, don't feel," I told to myself and I slowly stood up and went to my dressing mirror.

At first I opened up my braid and let my hair loose. Then I took my dress off and changed into my night gown. All this time my face was emotionless and I just stare at my reflection.

Then I see the locket hanging around my neck, I touch it and my finger caresses the smooth surface. Slowly a wide smile spreads on my face. He just acknowledged me, he came here and wasn't that bad. I rush to my bed and I jump to it. The pillows bounced when I landed on the mattress.

I'm breathing fast and I bite my bottom lip until it is too painful. I can't keep it in anymore. I flip around and when I get a flashback of our dance and how he came to save me from tight situation I began squealing against the pillow.

When I had let it all out I turn back to lay on my back and slowly I realize one thing.

"Oh my god--," I whispered to myself, "--I'm starting to act like Anna." A groan escaped from me and I close my eyes.

I breathe in and out and try to relax. Finally I'm back into my calmer self and I open my eyes again. However the butterflies were still dancing inside me when I crawled under my blanket and fell asleep.
