POV Astrid

My morning routine is always the same. I get up earlier than anyone, then I run for a while and head for showers. This morning was not any different, after a good run I'm walking towards our squad's shower barrack.

Once I was passing some other squad's barrack I saw Punzie getting out from their shower barrack.

"Umm.. Punz, why would you use some other people's showers?" I raised my eyebrow to her. Her long golden blonde hair was all dripping wet.

"I was just returning from giving Pascal a walk when I heard a scream from here," she replied smiling and shrug her shoulders.

"Scream?" I replied with my tone being high pitched from the surprise.

"Yes, a girl had stepped out from the shower. Then she slipped and hit her leg, I healed her," Punzie giggled.

"I see," I laughed a bit while we kept walking towards our barrack.

"Today was a nice day for a run? I mean the air is nice and crispy and the snow is freshly fallen last night," Punzie sighed and looks around.

"It was. See you at breakfast?" I smiled when I was climbing up the stairs to shower building.

We had some free time today because we're going for a forest exercise for the evening and the night. Me and Hiccup will meet soon and I'm waiting him at the shooting range.

"Hey!" Hiccup shouted and ran towards me. I wave my hand to him, the army green uniform suits him well.

"Took you long enough!" I laughed.

"Sorry," he pants out and leans his bodyweight on his knees. "I have that mental exercise with our Captain later today. You know, the one which made Eugene and Hiro act weirdly," he exhaled.

"It's fine. Just remember that be yourself and remember who you are in here," I smiled to him as I touched his chest. We've been friends for a long time, even before the army. I was there for him when his father died.

"Thanks. So how about some shooting?" He smiled and gave me a gun from his other shoulder.

"Ah, so we try shotguns today?" I grinned.

"Yeah," he chuckled.

We went to the outside shooting range to our own separate booths and then we began shooting at the objects. Neither of us missed the target. Our parents were weapon enthusiasts, we practiced our whole childhood together.

"Nice shooting," Hiccup laughed after we had shot out all our ammo.

"You didn't do too bad yourself but still I hit more into center than you did!" I laughed and punched his shoulder before giving him the shotgun.

"Yeah but I'm even better with melee weapons," he winked his eye.

"Just give me a blunt weapon or axe and that smile goes away from your face," I said cockily as I crossed my arms.

Then he gasped. "What's the time?" He gulped.

"Just over 12 in the noon, why?"

"Oh crap. I'm late! Captain will be even more angry than before. I need to go," he gasped and glanced at me with puppy eyes.

I sighed and gave him a smile, "Well give me the guns and I'll get them back to storage. Now beat it!" I laughed. He thanked me in gratitude and began running.

When I was about to go into weapons storage I saw Captain Frost rushing down the stairs of office building. I notice how he looks around just before I go inside the weapons barrack.

"Two shotguns loaned by Hiccup Haddock for practice purposes. 12 rounds shot with each one," I told to weapons keeper who began looking through the notebook where they write the information down.

"Thank you. And your name?"

"Private Astrid Hofferson," I replied.

"Thank you. Now you can go," I was told and I left from the dusty building.

I didn't see Captain Frost once I got out. However it seems like Hiccup wasn't the only one who was late. Now it's time to organize my equipment for a night in the winter woods.

POV Jack

What would be finer start for December than a missed out practice. Yesterday I told Private Haddock that he and Arendelle should come to do their personal training. Yeah, they have to do the same thing that Private's Fitzherbert and Hamada did almost couple months ago. I need to break their emotions or at least see how they deal with stress.

First one to go is Haddock but Arendelle is much tougher case to break. She actually thinks that love is a powerful thing but I need to prove her wrong for her own good. Or maybe just get her to quit? However I guess that this will be the moment when I see if she can handle being a soldier, to obey orders and leave her heart out of this. If she can, then I guess that there's a chance she can make this out alive.

I just finished setting up the place for Haddock's arrival. Now I just need to wait a little longer until he arrives to the barrack. Nah, I'm just gonna handle one thing first.

I head to base's gate where they handle the people who pass through these gates. Once I got noticed by the two guards inside the guard posts on each side of the gate they got out.

"Nice to see you Captain Frost," they both shouted in unison as they kept their hands in salute.

"At ease," I ordered them.

"What brings you here sir?" They asked as they went back inside their posts. I go to the older one.

"I'm just gonna call you Phoebus because there's no way in hell I'm gonna say your last name," I groaned as I lean over the counter.

"It's de Chateaupers sir," he replied and run his fingers over his goat beard. I stare into his blue eyes with 'I don't care'-look and he sighs and ruffles his blonde hair.

"Listen, I need to do a permit for a Private to leave from the base," I told him and he nodded his head while giving me the form.

I start filling it up.

I paused on that point. Her birthday is the 22nd, she was born in Winter Solstice and it's funny how her 21st birthday happens to be on Winter Solstice too. A smile slowly spreads to my face but soon wears off when Phoebus clears his throat.

"There's a long way until end of this month sir," Phoebus said questioning.

"Just so I don't forget and let's leave the return date open for now," I replied. Actually I'm afraid that I might just change my mind and this way it's already done. Her permission to leave.

I gave the permit to Phoebus and then I left.

One more thing to do before Private Haddock comes. I look around me and when no one is watching I used the aid of wind to speed to office barrack where my father is. The snow which was covering the base felt good under my feet when I ran.

Gladly Colonel Moon wasn't occupied so I got to meet him right away.

"I need to discuss with you sir," I told him when I got inside his office. He lifted his face up from his papers and he smiled. I just stare at him and wait for his respond.

"Relax Jack, just.. Oh for God's sake! Ease soldier!" He sighed and I stop saluting him. He pointed me to sit.

"Sir, I need you to do something," I told to Colonel Moon.

"Jack, I may be your superior but I'm your father. Never forget that. What can I do?" He asked and crossed his hands.

"Sir.. I mean dad. You know that my future partner was known when we encountered the enemy last time?" I asked and he nodded his head.

"Yes, you were quite worried about it," he sighed and looks down.

I jumped up from my chair and then I slammed my hands on the table. "Yeah, they fucking told me how they would KILL HER! And since you didn't kick her out from the army I had to--," I began.

"You had to keep her in the base so she would be safe. I know that Captain Frost," Colonel Moon said as he stood up. His blue eyes were concerned.

"So now I'm asking... asking that you make sure, absolutely sure that she gets protection when she's out from the base. A bodyguard. Dad, I'm begging you," I breathed fast.

"You don't think she can protect herself?"

"Not from those people and she's not ready. She's too kindhearted, too trusting," I pant out as I clench my hands into fists.

"But her powers," Colonel Moon began but I interrupted him.

"She doesn't know that I know. I don't think that she has full control over them. Besides the reveal of her powers hasn't been seen yet and you said that the situation where she uses them gives you the best idea who she is as a person. Before that she can't be a soldier and my--," I spoke fast.

"Your partner. Well let's hope that she can show her core soon," Colonel Moon smiled faintly.

I roll my eyes for the word, 'Core', I've been hearing that ever since I was young. It is something that is said to be the source of our special talents and powers. Something that makes us who we are. My core was Fun but I don't see anything fun in life anymore.

Without saying anything I walk to the door and out.

"Your core is just waiting to get out again," Colonel Moon raised his voice after me. I wave my hand at him while keeping my back facing him.

Private Haddock was waiting at me on barrack's door. I glared at him angrily, meeting my father never ended up otherwise than him reminding me something that I wanted to forget.

"Get in," I order Private Haddock who flinches and follows me in.

The corridor is dark, the whole barrack has been meant to be depressing and taking hope away from people. This is where we test the mental strength of our future soldiers. Every wall has been painted into black, there are no windows and just few flickering lights.

I can hear Private Haddock walking after me. This won't be easy thing for him.

"Go into that room," I nod towards the door on the left.

He did as I ordered him even though he glanced at me suspiciously. Then I shut the door after him. I know his fears, I know his weaknesses. I know their all weaknesses, I know them.

"Captain?" His voice echoed from the other room. There was no light. And now he was alone, the iron door was keeping him in.

"Get out before you die in there," I hissed through the door and then I went to sit down on the opposite side of the corridor.

Hour later it was time for the plan to go into action.

I listen how his father's voice echoes inside the room. Telling him how disappointed he is to his son. The father of his that died a while back. I made Private Hamada to create a program that changes voices into something else. I was the one who recorded those things but it's his father who says them.

I cross my arms and wait. How the words go worse and he begs for it to stop, that he didn't mean to disobey him and give his father unhappiness by following his own path.

"You dishonored me!" The voice roared and I stood up.

"Dad, I didn't mean to!" Haddock shouted.

A metallic sound could be heard in the inside. The knife had just dropped down.

"Kill yourself for your sins to be forgiven," his father spoke.

Then there was a silence. I was getting ready to him to tell his dad to piss off and then demanding the door to be opened. The silence was lasting long and I slowly got up.

He should have given up by now. He didn't do it actually?

I go to the door and get ready to open it as I reach for the handle. Then the door vanished and my eyes widened as I jumped back. It just fell down.

Then Private Haddock roared and ran towards me, I saw some flames being swing at me and I keep avoiding his hits as I keep jumping back.

"Do you honestly think that using my father's voice could make me collapse! It just makes me mad!" He shouted at me as my back slammed against the wall.

I barely managed to cool down the flames when the blade slammed against the wall near my head.

Private Haddock was panting and staring at me fiercely.

"How did you do that," I gulped out as I broke his grasp.

"My father was a fighter. That knife solved everything, I could use it to get the screws out from the door and then I found some flammable fluids that I used on the blade," he mumbled and wiggled the knife out from the wall.

"Well, I guess that you just showed your inner fighter, you sure have some flame burning inside you Private Haddock," I spoke to him.

"Is this exercise over?" He groaned and turned his back at me.

"Yes. Tell Private Arendelle to get in, she's been waiting outside for a while I think," I ordered him.

"Yes sir," Private Haddock said and left.

"God dammit he sure surprised me," I gasped when he was not hearing me.

Then I went froze the doorway shut leading to Haddock's trial place. Now it was time to ready Private Arendelle's test and I quickly got it ready. Love is something that could lead her to her own death. She needs to realize it.

I hid myself when she came in. I was inside observing room where some tv's were located to look at the surveillance tape from the place where I prepared her test. She was confused looking while she passed the observing room, that's when I pressed a button.

"Elsa," a gentle female voice called.

"Anna?" Arendelle replied and began walking towards the room where she heard her sister's voice. When she was at the door I went to the surveillance screens. Now she saw the puppet standing in the corner of the room.

"Anna, what are you doing here?" Arendelle insisted and went towards the puppet.

"No Elsa, stay away. Don't step there," her sister's voice pleaded.

Then Arendelle stepped on pressured plate. It made a weapon shoot and straight into puppet's head. Her sister's scream was heard until the bullet pierced the head. Then the puppet collapsed down, the blood capsules inside it broke and blood was staining the floor.

Arendelle was still standing in shock over the pressure plate when I took my knife and started making my way towards the room. As I thought she was now slowly walking towards her assumed sister in the dark. I sneaked inside the room and I readied my knife.

Once she kneels down I took my chance.

In few moments I managed to grab her from behind, "Are you fucking stupid! Letting your emotions to take control when you should secure your--." I shouted but then she kicked my feet and threw my hand away from her shoulder.

She managed to throw me to the ground, grab my knife and hold it against my neck as she locked me on the ground by pressing her knee on me. I was panting, she took me by surprise.

"Anna would never say that I should stay away," Arendelle hissed as the blade was tightly against my skin. She was angry by the looks of it.

"So... you never thought of that as your sister? But... if you did you would've just acted foolishly, huh?" I said sarcastically.

"No. I've always been aware if people are around me," she mumbled and eases her grip which was stupid.

I pushed her off and she got up but I was faster. I took my knife back and I press her against the wall and held the knife on her neck. She was panting out hard.

"What the fuck was that?" I insisted to know.

"I was afraid of hurting you," she exhaled and glanced down at my neck. The blade had cut me slightly when I broke free from her grasp.

"Never hesitate, heck... if you need to kill me then just do it," I ordered her.

Then I felt something pressing on my back. "Are you sure Captain? I could destroy some of your organs by piercing you behind your back. I didn't come here without my own knife," she smiled at me. My mouth fell open and I stare at her in misbelieve.

I took the knife from her neck and I began to laugh. "Destroy my organs? Shit you just surprised me Arendellle," I chuckled while watching at her. Then I used a remote control to put on the lights, her knife was still against my back.

"You are bleeding sir," she whispered and took her knife off from my back.

"Just a scratch," I told her while I pressed my hand over my wound. My powers cooled the wound and the bleeding stopped.

Suddenly she embraced me. "What are you doing Private?" I insisted to know but my arms go around her. Her head is buried against my chest.

"Sir, I just don't want people to get hurt," she whispered.

"Me neither. Remember to obey my orders... always, never question them Private for your own good," I mumbled close to her ear. Her hair felt soft against my cheek and her scent lingered into my nose. She nodded her head and muttered a quiet response, then I pushed her off.

"Exercise is over, you passed. Now you're dismissed," I told her strictly and then I began walking away from her and the room.

Alright so as you all know I promised to reply to at least one of your comments in Chapter 18. I'm gonna continue replying until midnight of 9th August 2015. Then I'll just check the comments randomly because my Wattpad notifications about comments don't work.
