Two
After being led inside the castle with four guards flanking me all the way down to their so-called dungeon, I found myself being thrown inside a prison cell, the restraints on my hands and feet were gone.
I got up from the floor, brushing dust and mud from my clothing and whipped around to face the smirking men, "You bastards! You're not even real guards are you? Just some stupid puppets being played in a board game of reality. You think you can keep me locked forever? I will avenge my people!"
One of the guards scowled and spit right on my left cheek. The rest of them laughed, watching me wipe the sticky saliva off in anger. My veins boiled in rage. 'How dare they mock me?!'
"Look Princess." A tall guard spat, he said my title with such scorn, it was as if saying it poisoned him, "You may have been treated like royalty and a great leader from your petty kingdom. But you're now in the domain of King Agreste and whatever he demands you follow. No one here answers to you!"
"Enough!" A deep, angered voice bellowed from behind. It came from the main door of the dungeon and the voice echoed around the pale walls.
The guards quickly stood at the side and adjusted their posture as the tyrant walked forward to my cell door. He was in his Miraculous form, Hawkmoth, a gray mask covered his face and he was dressed in a long, dark blue tail coat. The King's eyes gleamed as he stared down at me with satisfaction.
"Princess Marinette Dupain-Cheng." He bowed down mockingly, his lips curled into a smirk, "How nice of you to join my collection of Prisoners of war. I guess that fighting was all for nothing. Such a pity the revolution was wasted on such a naive, stupid girl like yourself."
I gritted my teeth, my hands tightened around the bars of my cell and my knuckles turned white as snow, "I fight for freedom. For my home. For my family. For my friends. For my people. And I am no prisoner to you!"
"Says the one who is behind bars." He retorted, raising a challenging eyebrow, "I'll see that this retaliation is ended now that I have you as my prisoner. Your parents will have no choice but to give up their kingdom and Miraculous to me in exchange for their petty daughter. From now on you stay here and you belong to me." He leaned down until his face was inches from mine and I could've easily punched him between the bars, "Try and fight back and I'll have your execution scheduled without hesitation. Are we clear?"
I stared into his dark, brooding eyes and said nothing. I held his gaze without flinching until his hand whipped out in a flash and grabbed my chin through the cell.
"I will not repeat this again." He growled menacingly, his grip tightened around my chin and I held back a painful grunt, "Are we clear?"
I forced myself to nod and he let go of my face, pushing me backwards. I stumbled in surprise to the floor, clutching my face. I was sure he left a mark.
He chuckled to himself and turned away, speaking to the guards, "Make sure she is fed daily, taken out for exercise and is granted for whatever fulfills her personal needs. I don't want this pet dying like the one I had before. She needs to be in good condition for my bargain."
They acknowledge his request right away and followed King Gabriel out of the dungeon. Once I heard the door slam shut, I collapsed on the dusty floor. I wasn't able to regain my Miraculous to help me escape. They must've done something to make sure I didn't revolt. I fiddled with my short, blue pigtails which rested on my shoulders. My clothes dirty from being thrown inside the cell and I was covered in cuts and bruises. The red earrings, which was the source of my Miraculous, felt empty and powerless.
As I laid on the cell floor, I couldn't help but feel fear and hurt for my people and family. I felt homesick and worried that they soon will be led to destruction, a long way from freedom.
