Chapter 10: Karkat ==> Flip Your Shit

Oh, trust me. You plan to do just that. You thought Terezi was your friend! How could she flirt with Dave like that, especially right in front of you?! That's exactly what you intend to find out. You haven't talked to Dave since last night. You don't want to hear what he has to say. Actually, it may more or less be that you're afraid to open your big dumb mouth. You'd rather "talk" to Terezi and hear what she has to say than to yell at Dave and possibly ruin what little relationship you have with him.

After you finish reshelving the books at the library, you make your way down to the laundry room. You continually clench and unclench your fists, digging your nails into your palms as you go. You find her just where you expected to, hunched over a basket of laundry, folding them and placing them into a cart to take to the inmates.
You know Terezi heard you walk in. She pauses what she's doing for just a second before resuming her work and murmuring, "Hey, Karkat..." You can't help but growl, flipping the basket onto the ground, the clothes inside scattering on the floor. She doesn't even blink. She simply bends down and cleans the mess, muttering, "Okay. I deserved that."
"How the Hell could you go behind my back with Dave?! How could you flirt with him right in front of me?!" You snap, the words spilling out of your mouth before you can stop them. "He and I have hardly been together for a month, if that, and already someone's trying to snatch him up?! If it was going to be anyone, I'd have expected it to be Eridan. Not you. I thought we were supposed to be friends!"
"We are friends!" She insists, her voice almost pleading.
"Then why'd you do it?" You hiss back, a lump making its way into your throat.
Terezi groans and slams her fists down on the table. "I didn't do anything! I didn't sleep with Dave. I never even kissed him. Well, I did on the cheek a few weeks ago, but that was completely platonic! Besides, if I was going to kiss anyone here, it'd be you way before it'd be Dave." Her cheeks burn as she looks away. "Besides, it's working. I catch her looking at me all the time. I know she misses me. It's going to work... It has to..."
You can feel you own face heat as she speaks. Your anger dies down and is replaced by sympathy. Allowing a small smile to grace your lips, you ask, "Why didn't you just tell me?"
She sniffles and rubs at her nose. "Because it's dumb. She doesn't care and I care too much. I had to give John head to get that movie slot!"
You bark out a laugh, tears pricking your eyes. "Are you serious?"
"Yes!" Terezi huffs exasperatedly. "I don't know how you did it!"
A snort escapes you as you chuckle, covering your mouth. "Probably the same way you did. Just... You know... In a closet."
"You two didn't actually fuck, did you?" She questions.
You shrug and muse, "I guess he's just got charisma." You wiggle your eyebrows and grin at her.
She gags and shoves you playfully. "Eugh! I thought you were a man of taste!"
"And I thought you were a strong, independent woman who doesn't need a bitch like Vriska," you counter smugly.
She falls silent after that, shuffling her feet as she whispers, "I thought I meant something to her, you know?" You nod. "So I feel lost. I mean, she was around for so long. She moved on so easily."
"All the more reason to drop her," you decide.
"You really think so?" She seems unsure.
Placing your hand on her shoulder, you lower your voice and tell her, "I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it. I know you're worth more than that. More than Vriska. More than Meenah. More than John's dick." She giggles at that, and you smile. "You'll be out of here soon. You can start living again. You won't need her because the world will be your oyster."
Terezi bites her lip and "glances" up at you. "Aren't you mad about the whole Dave thing?"
With a scoff, you wave your hand dismissively. "Why should I be? Nothing came of it. I believe you. But next time you flirt with my man, we'll fight. I don't care if your blind or not."
She laughs wholeheartedly at that, her arms wrapping tightly around your neck. "Thanks, Karkat."
"No problem," you reply as you pull back. "Next time you have romance issues, don't go to Dave. He's hopeless."
Terezi nods assertively and salutes. "Aye aye, Captain Crabby-Butt." A knock on the wall throws you from your train of thought as you both turn back towards the door. Terezi sniffs the air and tenses, her voice coming out low and hollow. "What do you want, Vriska?"
The blonde clears her throat and rubs the back of her neck. "Can we talk?" She casts her gaze over to you and adds, "Privately?"
You turn your eyes down to Terezi, who smiles up at you and whispers, "It's okay. I've got this." Her head turns back in Vriska's direction. She shrugs nonchalantly and drones, "Fine. But make it quick. I have things to do."
You grin and peck her cheek, mumbling, "Go get her, Tiger," in her ear before heading for the door.
"Hey," Terezi calls over to you. You look over your shoulder to see her smile and correct you. "It's Dragon. Not Tiger."
You chuckle. "I'll keep that in mind."
"Thanks," she says, almost sheepishly. You play it off as though she meant for it to be a joke, but you really know what she's thanking you for. "Any time."
You leave, closing the door to the laundry room behind you as you make your way back to you cell. Dave is sitting on your bunk reading one of your romance novels. You clear your throat, causing him to drop the book and jump to his feet. His eyes snap over to you, his face a light pink. "Shit. Sorry. I was just uh..." He picks up the book and dusts it off. "It fell..."
You rolls your eyes, making your way over to him. He seems petrified until you stand on your tiptoes to press a gentle kiss to his lips. This takes him by surprise, so you clarify. "Terezi just explained the whole thing to me. You're in the clear."
Dave sighs in relief. "Thank god. Mind explaining it to me? I've yet to go the scoop."
"Vriska," you deadpan.
"Ah. So I take it you and I are okay now?" He asks hopefully.
"Hmmmm..." You tap you chin, watching his terrified expression. Finally caving, you hum, "I guess so."
He immediately smiles. "Good." He's quiet for a moment before asking, "Want to go play cards with Rose and Kanaya in the Rec Room?"
You snigger and take his hand. "Yeah. I'd love to." As the two of you make your way down the hall, you wish Terezi a silent "Good luck". You know she's going to need it.

~Author's Note~

This story is terrible and is beyond saving, so I'm just going to finish this writing it in my old, shitty style so I can get to the new, good stuff. I won't half ass it, but I totally don't know what to do with this, so I'm just gonna try to finish as quickly as possible. Sorry that this is so bad. Thanks for reading it anyway.
