8: bank robbery
Priscilla rushed back to the cafe, then sat down immediately to tell Conner what she just saw. She didn't even give him a chance to talk.
"Guess what I saw!" She said loudly, almost forgetting their fight.
"Okay, but where on Earth have you been?! And what about storming off and not talking to me?" He said incredulously.
"I was out walking and I saw a cat!"
"Good for you..." Conner muttered.
"But the cat's fur was sort of burnt, and it's eyes were purple!"
"What?!" He said bewildered.
"Yes! And you know how our eyes look like fire?"
He nodded.
"Well, the cat had lightning in it's eyes!"
He stood up quickly. "We gotta go find it! Where did you see it?"
"In the nearest alleyway, but it ran away. It went away from the cafe, deeper in the city."
"Come on, we can't risk loosing it." They both headed out the door, and hopped in his hover. "It might have been in the explosion..."
Conner sped off after the cat in the direction Priscilla told him to.
"Then doesn't that mean the cat is part of the FRR?" Priscilla asked.
"Most likely, unless another cat was outside of the of the lab with us. It was dark."
"Turn left."
They made a sharp left turn, passing down the street faster as they gained speed.
"Keep a look out for it!" Conner said.
Priscilla gazed carefully at the moving crowd of animals, but she couldn't find the black cat.
Suddenly, a small flare of black movement with twin violet spots caught her attention. It headed into an alleyway, then opened a door and ran inside.
"That way!" Priscilla barked. "In the alleyway, and through the door!"
Conner served to the left, bursting out before another hover from the other lane could hit him. He abruptly parked the car, then jumped out. Conner opened the door, revealing a dark stair case made of metal.
They looked at each other for reassurance, then Priscilla headed down the stairs. Conner followed close behind.
The darkness engulfed them, and soon they couldn't see their own paws. Desperate for light, Priscilla recalled a scary memory to light her paws up. The time when Peter had put a worm in her birthday cake when she turned ten made her paws flicker on a little. She willed them to glow more, and red light flared down the staircase as she ran. There were several more stair ways to go.
"What's that light coming from?" Conner barked.
"I just made a little fire! I couldn't see anything!"
"Ow!" He yipped. "It made the stairs hot! This is metal!"
"Oh, stop complaining and just go!" Priscilla barked back.
After about twenty flights of stairs, a door appeared. It lead to ground level where cars traveled. The cat's tail disappeared around a corner heading into the street. They briskly followed, running into other pedestrians and homeless animals.
The cat had slowed down a bit, so they were able to stay not too far away. They followed the cat to a bank, where it slipped inside. Conner and Priscilla followed.
The inside of the bank looked like a robbery scene. About fifteen cats with masks over their heads and glasses stood with guns in their mouths.
Now why are they holding the guns in their mouths? Well, since animals can't really hold things, new guns were developed so they could operate the entire thing with their mouth. It was supposedly safe for the shooter.
Other animals that were in the bank were huddled together with guns pointed at them. Potato sacks and garbage bags were being brought back from the door in the back by other cats.
A large, lioness with burnt golden fur and crackling, aqua eyes glared menacingly at them. She wasn't particularly strong looking, but she could have easily pinned both of them.
Her glare faded to an evil grin. "Well, seems as if our puppies have come to see us off. Ninety Three?" She asked, looking at the cat they had chased. "Would you like to do the honors?"
The cat's fur stood up, then purple lightning cracked at his paws and tail. "With pleasure."
Ninety Three leaped at them, paws crackling loudly. Before he could land on them, Priscilla pushed Conner and herself out of the way. They toppled over like dominoes as Ninety Three landed right where they were. The lightning connected from his paws to the floor like a plasma ball would.
As he turned around, Priscilla and Conner got up. She willed herself to become angry, then let out a deep bark that turned into a roar as fire leapt from her jaws. She scorched the cat, leaving his pelt on fire. The cat stopped and rolled on the ground as a brown and white cat took his place. He also had lightning, but his eyes and lightning were a deep blue.
As he crackled, the lights flared on and off, and soon they exploded. Conner lit his paws up with some difficulty.
The cat yowled as he struck a blow at Priscilla. She felt her insides twist, and a metallic feeling coursed up her. She willed the feeling to go to her paws, and they flared up. She barked again, fire leaping from her jaws as she swatted the cat. It wasn't very dog-like to fight with their paws, but she didn't want to bite him.
Fire caught on the cat, but he didn't seem to care. They both kept sticking each other with their powers, and Priscilla kept turning the cat's electrical energy into heat.
In the corner of her eye, she saw Conner battling two cats. He looked terrified and confused, and he kept getting shocked.
"Direct their lightning to your paws!" Priscilla barked.
In a second, both of his paws lit up like a bonfire, drawing the cats back.
With a swift blow, she hit the cat in the face then jumped over to the lioness. The she cat slammed Priscilla to the ground with her mighty paws, then dug her claws in and turned on her electricity.
Priscilla screamed as aqua lightning coursed through her body. Metallic pain filled her skull, and her vision went dark. She tried to pull all that she could to her paws; trying desperately to keep the lightning from her heart, head and organs.
With a giant flare from Conner, he pushed three other cats away then leapt to Priscilla's aid. He brung a flaming paw down hard on the Lioness's head, making her tumble a little and stop her flow.
The cat tumbled away, her head on fire. She was now screaming as she closed her eyes and patted the flame out. "Aggghhhhh!! You monsters! I can't see!"
The wounded cats limped out of the bank and ran away, some others following. One larger gray male choked the flame with a potato sack filled with money, then he guided her out of the building. The potato sack caught on fire.
Priscilla hauled herself up, watching the lioness's fluffy tail tip disappear from view. Police lights from hovers glared from above the bank.
Dogs jumped from them with guns in their jaws. They barged in the bank with loud barks.
"Freeze!" One dog barked, while another shine a flashlight on Priscilla and Conner.
"Oh crap..." Conner muttered.
A golden retriever padded up to them, a scowl etched in his face. "What happened?! Did you steal the money?"
"What? No!" Conner barked. "We can explain!"
Two other dogs hooked cuffs on their paws.
"You can explain to the warren."
