~*~

Long ago, in a separate timeline, Angels and Demons lived together in harmony. Angels took care of the air and water, while the Demons took care of the earth and fire. One day, a feud broke out between two different members of the Angels and Demons, starting a war and breaking the two kingdoms apart. Nowadays, the Angel Kingdom has kept separate from the Demon Kingdom, taking refuge in the sky above water, where Demons could not get to them. The Demon Kingdom went underground, building a society where everyone treated each other as inferior to one another, creating rebellions to get back to the overworld and back to the peace they had.

The present-day kingdoms have new heirs, still separate. The Angel Kingdom has two heirs, Roman and Patton Wing, being princes to the throne. Patton is the older out of the two and is next in line for the crown. Roman has never liked that he was the second birth, residing to being in the guard instead, being given a leadership role instead of fighting. Roman doesn't like that either and wanted to sneak out of the castle to go to the ground, having to fly for about half an hour to get to land.

The Demon Kingdom also has two heirs, Virgil, and Logan Horn, easily having Logan take over the throne, due to Virgil forfeiting the crown, being older than Logan. Virgil was immediately shunned by his father for not wanting to take the throne, but, it wasn't the first time in the Demon Kingdom that someone has done this. Virgil had an anxiety disorder that tended to get the best of him, so, Logan did the most logical thing, and offered Virgil an idea to pass on the crown to himself. When Logan was born, he accepted the fact that he was the second born, and was content with Virgil having the crown. Virgil immediately agreed, knowing that in less than four months, many Demon in the Elites class would be brought in, being allowed to enter the Royal class by wedding with the next heir to the throne.

Virgil sighed, staring out his window, looking over the underground. He felt antsy, more antsy than usual, and wanted to get out of the underground. Ever since the Great Rebellion, they have put access to the overworld, keeping the royal family underground to prevent potential attacks from the Angel Kingdom. Virgil locked his bedroom door and opened his window, flying out to get to the access chamber to get to the overworld. His father didn't care for him anymore, but, it's better to take precautions to not get yelled at by his father, which happens quite often already. Virgil waved at Terrance, a guard of the access chamber, putting a finger up to his lips to keep it a secret. Terrance and Virgil were best friends since diapers, Terrance becoming the head of the guard, always staying at the access point when he wasn't around the royals. Virgil flew up the access chamber, landing on the soft grass outside of the pipes. He took a deep breath of fresh air in, relaxing a bit at the chirping and swaying of trees.

Virgil flew up to the treetops, getting a bit away from the access chamber. A single rule was placed for the access chamber, and that was to not be around the access chamber unless if you are entering or exiting the pipes. Villages form the Demon Kingdom are placed ten to thousands of miles away from the pipe system, ensuring the safety of the kingdom from the Angels. Virgil flew up into the sky, twirling around, his black feathered wings spreading to the full span of 16 feet from the left to the right-wing. Logan was always fascinated with how large Virgil's wings were, being a recessive trait amongst the Demons nowadays. Large wings were more common in the overworld, but not underground, needing smaller wings to conserve space. Virgil watched the sky below him, flapping his wings to stay in the clouds. He never liked the fact that the Angels and Demons were separated, but, history is history, and he can't change that anymore. He forfeited his right to the crown and is content with his decision.

Roman flew across the ocean, seeing land in his view line. He smiled excitedly, thinking of the different opportunities he could get by being on the ground. The clouds were ground for the Angel Kingdom and no one passed the seventh generation has set foot on the ground, but he'll change that, change the history that was started by the seventh century. The rumors around the history say that Demons started the fight, and killed one of their angels, causing a war to begin. Roman does not believe the rumor, being told differently by the older generations of five and six that are still alive today. They say that the angel that started the fight with the demon had wanted the land that the demon had, and killed the demon and himself to start a war, vengeance, and spite starting between the two families.

Roman hovered over the grass, eyes shimmering at the possibility of what it would feel like. They had an artificial grass that covered the clouds for the artificial trees, all of it feeling like a cloud, and not what was described by the elders. Roman put one foot on the ground, gasping at the soft, scratchy feel of grass, and the wet mud being thick, and feeling dirty, quite different from the clean waters up in the sky. He put his other foot down, tearing up at the new sensations and folded his wings. He kneeled, getting a portion of his pants dirty, running his fingers across the blades of grass, plucking a blade out from the ground, inspecting the odd shape and feeling.

Roman sat down, careful not to get his wings dirty, smiling at the new feeling. It wasn't as soft as clouds, but it felt real, too real in Roman's senses. He then remembered the spell that he learned to camouflage himself, turning his wings into a gray color, along with changing his halo into horns. They say that the Demons had a tail, but the elders said otherwise, confirming that they had feathered wings just like them, with a set of ram horns atop of their heads, varying in shapes and sizes. Roman stood up, looking around the area, smelling the dirt and listening to a chirping noise. He couldn't remember the last time he's seen or heard a bird, they were exiled from the Angel Kingdom, claimed to be spies in the Demon Kingdom. He flew towards the sound, finding a birds nest, leaving it alone to ensure the safety of the baby birds.

Roman hummed, and went to the treetops, looking up at the sky, spotting a flying object up there. He tilted his head and flew up to where the object, identifying it to be a man, a demon to be exact. Roman hid among the clouds, watching the man in front of him, looking down at the ground with distaste. He had dark brown hair, almost black, with streaks of purple in it, red eyes and very pale skin. There was black coming from underneath his eyes, his eye color popping from the dramatic look. Instead of seeing his horns, there was a patchwork hood over his head, a hole purposely on the back for his wings, and... no tail. Awesome.

Roman watched as the Demon stopped flapping his wings and plummeted to the ground, making the prince gasp, wanting to come out and save him, but, the demon would be caught off guard and-

Virgil's wings popped out before he hit the ground, flying back up into the sky, a smile on his face. He spotted another demon up in the clouds, making him a bit flustered as he watched the demon fly down to the ground. The demon had red and brown hair, possibly dyed due to the dark red color, a blood-red t-shirt on and a pair of black shorts, with no shoes. Virgil cocked an eyebrow at that but shrugged his shoulders. He's never really seen the over-dwellers dress, so he couldn't presume that they wore shoes. The demon looked up, his eyes being a gorgeous shade of golden brown, making his cheeks heat up.

Who in the goddamn Demon Kingdom said that this man could look like an angel? Virgil questioned to himself, becoming a bit more flustered, not looking where he was flying, flying into a tree. The demon saw and immediately ran over, frantically speaking, "Oh my God, are you okay?! You just flew into a tree, you can't be okay!" He looked over Virgil's body, clearly missing the flustered state that he was in, checking his facial features.

"A-Ah, sorry, I shouldn't be doing this, I don't even know who you are!" Roman said, taking his hands away from the real Demon. He put his hands in his lap and looked down, face going a shade of pink, embarrassed that he just ran to a Demon to help him. If his mother and father ever found out, they would be furious. Virgil sat up from the ground, avoiding eye contact with the boy. "U-Um, I'm Virgil Horn, Prince of the Underground. I'm not surprised you wouldn't know me, my brother was the only one introduced to the overworld," Virgil mumbled, looking at the tan demon. He was definitely from the overworld, demons from the underworld tended to be a tad paler than regular demons. He looked around, finding no village to be around, confusing him.

"Uh, sorry if this sounds weird, but, shouldn't you be at your village? I heard it was a mess after an earthquake," Virgil said, standing up, continuing to speak, "I have to go back to the underground, don't stay out for too long, the Angels might get you." He wiggled his fingers to feign fear, smiling softly at the laugh he received from the Demon. "Will do. Goodbye, Virgil," Roman softly said his name under his breath, finding it very pleasing to say. Virgil nodded and flew up into the sky and inwards towards the pipes, leaving the Demon behind, realizing he didn't get his name, and scowling at himself for not doing so.

Roman looked around and went back to the ocean, flying up into the sky and above the clouds so he wouldn't be spotted. He transformed back into his Angel form, making sure to wash his feet, albeit begrudgingly, and checked his clothes for any stains, which there weren't. Angels were doomed with forever white clothing, sometimes getting cream colors or off-white, depending on the age and class. The cream was for the elders and off-white were for middle-aged people who were in the middle class, and not in the upper or royal class.

Roman landed on his balcony softly, having looked over his shoulder several times to ensure he wasn't being followed. He looked back into his room, and sighed softly, thinking back to the Demon he met. He was nice and didn't do anything threatening as the stories said. The elders always said that the Demons were nice people, and, if they weren't, they would destroy the whole planet, holding that power at their fingertips. The Angel's were able to bring down the whole sky and raise the oceans if they wanted, but, didn't. Why they did not do it, Roman didn't know, but he was glad they hadn't. He strolled over to his bookshelf, making sure to unlock the door to tell people that he was no longer 'sleeping'. He usually used that tactic with his family and servants whenever he wanted to get out of the castle and explore, whether it is the ocean or the sky kingdom, or, for today, the ground. But he could never tell his family about that, he would be suspended for life and drowned in the ocean. He frowned at that, remembering the cruel punishment that the Royals did when Angel's were defiant and went to the ground.

Angels and Demons used to be in romantic relationships and were split apart forcibly by the Royals, punishing the ones who wanted to go back to their lovers. Roman sighed softly, reading over excerpts in his history book that younger Angels made, having a bias in the entire book. 'Angels are good's, and 'Demons are bad's, were frequently sprinkled in there, one way or another. For some reason, he yearned to know more about Virgil. He wanted to so bad.

He sat on his bed, head in his hands, trying to think of ways how to meet him again. He couldn't go underground... could he?

Virgil stared over the people that were here for the Royal choosing of a bride or groom for the next in line. Virgil would eventually have to do this, but, luckily, he could do that in his own time and meet the upper class, or marry a middle or lower class Demon if he wanted. He looked away from the crowd to Logan, seeing that he hasn't found anyone that seemed remotely interested in. So many have come to this thing, and, just by looking at the crowd, he's not impressed. Virgil hummed to himself, taking note to take Logan to the overworld one day, not only to hopefully see the other Demon but to get Logan away from work for a little bit. Virgil looked around, wanting to see if the Demon had come down, as per usual for Overworld Demons to see the annual tradition. Virgil slumped a bit in his chair as he could not see the Demon in the Overworld section, knowing it was a long shot that he would be here.

Logan looked over at Virgil, and whispered, "No one here is very interesting to me. I have read all of their profiles, and most of them are doing this for the money, not for actual love. I want to call the rest of the day off." Virgil snorted and whispered back, "If you can convince Father to cancel the rest of the day and send everyone home, sure, be my guest." Logan glared playfully at Virgil, the latter knowing very well that that was not the answer that he was searching for. Logan and Virgil would usually have these tiny debates against each other, knowing that they are not hurting each other, emotionally or verbally.

Patton was in a similar situation as Logan, having Roman on a throne next to him, looking for suitors as well. Patton was bored and tried not to show it, simply tapping his fingers against his thigh as he met men, women, and the ones in between. None of the suitors that were chosen for him were catching his eye, making him all that antsier. He just needed to get out, explore with Roman for a bit, and, hopefully, clear his head and make a decision soon. Coronation was due in a few months, and, per tradition, the Angel Kingdom preferred that he would have already chosen a suitor. Patton glanced at the sundial across the room, huffing as he realized that he had to go through this meet and greet for another two hours. He was tempted to just call the rest of the day off, having already read up on the people that had come today. Yes, it would be selfish to say no to so many people, but, it wouldn't hurt many people. They were just trying to marry Patton to get in the Royal family.

Roman looked across the crowd of people, noticing that his older brother was bored and wanted to get out of the castle, do something. Roman contemplated if he should bring his brother to the land where he met the Demon Prince, Virgil, and introduce Patton to him. He'd have to make Patton promise that he would never tell Father and Mother, afraid that the consequences would be very rash and extreme. Patton looked down at his fingers, twirling them around and creating a mini tornado of air between his pointer fingers. Roman noticed this, and sighed, giving in. He shot a look at the Royal Advisor, giving him a signal. This signal told the Royal Advisor to make up an excuse and get everyone out of the castle. Patton had already met three-quarters of the crowd, making it a viable excuse to just tell everyone to go home. Damien nodded, and cleared his throat, talking over the large crowd in the throne room. "Alright, everyone, listen up. Prince Patton is exhausted and is very grateful that you all came here. For the people he has not met yet, come again tomorrow. I hope all of you have a wonderful evening," Damien said, gathering people up to have them exit.

Patton sighed, and gave a grateful look towards Roman, getting up from his throne to go to his room, beckoning Roman to follow him. Roman sighed and sat in the chair across from the bed of Patton's room, nodding towards him. "So... do you want to go on an adventure? If you do, you have to promise me that you will not tell anyone else that we went somewhere without escorts," Roman said, biting his lip nervously as Patton thought about it, nodding excitedly when he reached his compromise. Patton never gets the opportunity to leave the castle often, and, when he does, he is surrounded by guardsmen, usually holding people at sword-point if they got too close. Roman nodded, smiling nervously, walking to the door and locking it, feigning the 'study or sleeping' policy.

"So, I need you to not tell anyone where we went. It's very taboo, and we could get in huge trouble if we get caught," Roman said, adrenaline running through his veins. He wanted to show Patton the Demon Kingdom from the very moment he found it, but, of course, didn't want to get in trouble. Patton tilted his head, and whispered, "Where are we going?" Roman stared at Patton, whispering back, "To land."

Virgil was flying in the clouds with Logan, laughing and flying around each other. They haven't gotten the opportunity to this in forever, knowing that ever since Logan took the crown, he was busier than ever. Virgil sped towards the ground, spotting a familiar Demon on the ground. His eyes widened, popping his wings open suddenly, landing on the ground softly with Logan following him. "What is it, Virgil-" Logan interrupted himself, spotting two Demons talking amongst each other, looking at the one with large ram horns and blondish curly hair, and light red eyes. His mouth opened and closed for a few moments, seeing Virgil walk up to the tanner Demon of the two. The redhead smiled, and said, "Prince Virgil! Lovely to see you again! This is my brother Patton." The blonde one, Patton, gave out his hand, smiling at my brother. "Hey, Kiddo! I'm Roman's brother,  Patton. Nice to meet you!" Patton said excitedly, a shimmer in his eyes. Logan stared on, watching the Demon's every move.

This didn't seem right, but, he couldn't place his finger on it. It could be the fact that they were Overworlders, and, therefore, he has never met them. But, so close to the ocean?
