Player
"I don't get it. You tell me stories of all the dates you've been on, and never acually thought of trying to meet the one?"
"Logan, that's different. I'm not ready for that. Love is a horrible thing that I never want to experience, which is why I am who I am now."
"Virgil. One day, you're gonna meet a player and get played, not the other way around."
"Logan, I am the player. I know the hints to players. I'm gonna be fine."
"I'm just trying to be a good friend. Unlike Remy who cheers you on."
"Excuse-e-moi?" Remy walked around the corner as they other two walked aimlessly around the mall. "I think it's a good chance to experience different types of men. Virgil's hot! He get's whoever he want's, whenever he want's."
"1. Other than straights. 2. Where is this going to get him in the future?"
"Um? Around?"
Logan face palmed before Virgil piped up again.
"I know! You both pick me a guy each."
"Easy enough." Remy stated as Logan rolled his eyes and scanned the crowd.
"Oh! That one with the yellow beanie, leather jacket and tattoos. He's looks hot and like a bad boy~" Remy stated. Virgil shrugged and walked over to the man, tapping him on the shoulder.
"Hey, I like your tattoos."
"Thank's cutie. What's you're name?"
"I'm Virgil. And you are?"
"Everyone calls me Deceit."
"What do you do?"
"I'm in bike gang. I should take you for a ride sometime."
--------------------
Virgil walked back over to his friends, smirking with pride.
"I've not a name, number and a date. He's gonna take me on his motorcycle."
"Or, he's going to take you on his motorcycle and find somewhere to harass you."
"Logan, chill. Anyway, which guy you picking?"
"Um... The guy in the white jeans and red jacket. Seems nice. Dramatic with a big smile. Maybe a bit extra, like you."
"Fine." Virgil smiled and walked up to the guy Logan had pointed out. He was tall and quite beautiful in Virgil's perspective.
"Hey."
They guy spun around with a big smile and looked down slightly at Virgil.
"Hello, may I help you?"
"No help needed. I just... wanted to let you know you're quite beautiful."
"Thank you?"
"I'm Virgil." Virgil stuck his hand to shake, the man took it cautiously before smirking.
"Roman. I know what you are."
"And what's that?"
"You're the tough-guy player. Get's whoever they want when they please, don't give a care whose heart they brake. But really you're broken inside and don't want the pain of someone breaking your own heart."
"Ouch... touché. But what if you're wrong?"
"Then, I'll give you my number, so we can have a friendship so I can get to know you."
--------------------
"I got a name, number and... a rejection."
"Wait wHaT?!" Remy pratically shouted, but he managed to keep it hushed.
"Yep, he want's a friendship first. But I can't do that!"
"Why not? It seems sensible." Logan stated, sounding bored.
"Being a player is: flirt, hook up, get them in your bed, leave, never see them again. Plus, if we become friends, I won't be able to do that to him!... I won't want to lose him..." Virgil rubbed the back of his neck, a faint blush over his cheeks.
"Hey~ At least you still got the hottie with the motorbike." The blush dissopeared as he smirk.
"Hell yeah I do!"
"You two can head to the car, I suddenly remembered I need to pick up something. That is, if you're not busy, Remy?"
"Babe, I'm always free." Remy led Virgil out the mall doors after Virgil was given Logan's keys.
--------------------
Logan sighed as the two left. Walking up to the person he spotted for the 'dare', he tapped his shoulder, causing the guy to turn around.
"Sorry for bothering you, I'm Logan."
"Names Roman. Is there a reason you're..."
"Yes. I just wanted to talk about Virgil."
"The tragically hansome emo? That Virgil?"
"If that's how you would descibe him, then yes. I just wanted to say that what you did was a good thing to do and to go easy on him."
"I'm confused."
"I've been trying to tell him for weeks someone is going to turn him down, but sadly he has the person who turned him into the player telling him he can get whoever he wants. But, he's still afraid."
"Afraid? Of what?"
"Losing people. It's why he leaves instead of watching people leave. I won't say to much, just please... go easy on him."
Roman smiled.
"I'll keep the little Prince safe."
--------------------
A few months later.
--------------------
"Virgil, get up! We're going shopping!" Roman barged through the door with the key he was given some time ago. He opened Virgil's bedroom door before shutting it immediately.
"And there is someone in the bed! Sorry! I should have knocked!"
"Aww. Princey's embarrassed. It's fine, we're covered up."
After a few seconds, he opens the door and walked back in. Grabbing a pillow and hitting Virgil with it.
"Get up." He looked at the stranger before rolling his eyes. The two really were a tangle of limbs in the covers.
"And who are you?"
"Names Deceit. Virgil and I hook up quite a lot, don't we cutie?"
Virgil hummed with a smile before turning to Roman. "Okay, out so we can get dressed."
"You better not start making out." Roman stated.
"No promises, Roman."
Roman closed the door and sighed. He really was starting to wish Virgil would get his life straight instead of listening to Remy's words of heartbraker.
--------------------
"Hey Virge... you should probably stop drinking."
"Why?"
"Because I'm surprised you don't have a hangover from your little get together with Mr.Tattoos."
"I didn't drink last night. Got to keep an open mind when you're a player."
Roman sighed as he contuined to look forwards.
"Princey? You can't change me, it's who I am, and also, I'm a little tipsy, catch me."
Roman quickly stopped Virgil from falling face first into the floor as they walked around the city. Virgil looked up at Roman with a drunken smile.
"You're eyes are pretty."
"Now you're drunk. Let's put some drinks away."
"No. These are mine, I want to live a little."
"Live without being drunk."
"I can't live like that! The pain of what I was like before this is killing me!" Virgil stood there a while before shoving the bottles into Roman's hands.
"If you can't live with me being like this-"
"Virgil, I'm trying to help-"
"I don't need you're help, now let me finish! If you can't live with me being like this, why bother staying with me?" Virgil was on the verge of tears before he stormed away, more angrily walking a few steps, stopping and turning back.
Roman held out a half filled bottle for Virgil to take, but was surprised when Virgil cupped his face and smashed their lips together instead. After a short while, Virgil pulled away and looked him dead in the eyes.
"That's my goodbye."
"Virgil, no!" Virgil stormed away again, fully leaving this time.
--------------------
"Virgil? Sweetie? Where are you?"
Remy slowly walked through the door until he heard a heartbraking sob from the bedroom. Rushing in, he found Virgil huddled in a corner with beer and wine around him.
"Oh my... Virgil..." At the mention of his name, he looked up, showing his patchy face from crying and running eyeliner.
"Is he with you?"
"Who? Roman? No... I'm alone."
"Good... I never want to see his beautiful face again!"
"This argument must have been bad...What happened?"
"I... I don't know... one moment we were walking through the city. He mentions my drinking, I lash out. I kissed him goodbye and stormed away.... I kissed him..." Virgil went into a state of panic at the thought of what he did.
Remy crouched down and grabbed his phone. "That's it, I'm calling him."
"Remy! No! Please... I can't see him..."
"Virgil, you sound like a child. Talk to him before you regret it."
"Remy... no..."
Remy stood up and walked out the room, dialling Roman's number.
--------------------
"Roman."
"yes..."
"I need you at Virgil's house. Now."
"I don't think that's a good idea..."
"Roman, that kid is sobbing his heart out in his bedroom, surrounded by alcohol. I need you here now!"
"Remy, it's my fault he's like that!"
"No it's not! It's mine... I made him the player. I taught him how to do the things he does. He came to me, helpless, begging me to like me. To get what he wants. To forget everything... I gave in and look at him now. You're good to him, Roman... I need you..."
"... I'm on my way..."
Remy hung up and paced outside Virgil's door.
--------------------
"I came as quick as I could." Roman strode through the door with a quick pace, stopping infront of Remy.
"He's in there. I just need you to try calm him down... sort things out with him..."
Roman nodded and slowly opened the door.
The sight was nerve wracking. Virgil's head was against his bed as one knee was against his chest, the other spread out infront of him. He was holding another wine bottle as he took a swig. His breathing was shallow but his heart seemed to be going 100miles per minute. Tears were streaming down his face and his eyes showed emptyness.
Roman closed the door behind himself as he took careful steps towards Virgil.
"Virgil..."
"Don't come any closer."
Roman sat down on the dark floor, crossing his legs.
"Okay, I'll stay this far away."
Virgil looked into Roman's eyes before another tear fell down his face.
"I want you to leave."
"I'm not going anywhere... I just want to talk-"
"I don't want to hear it!"
"Hey, I let you talk, it'a my turn."
Virgil sighed and looked back at the wall. Staring into nothing.
"Virgil, I don't know what you've been through in the past, and I don't know what the future will bring. But this is the present, and we decide what happens for our future. I don't want to be without you in the future, so I'm not leaving you now... not ever."
"I... I kissed you..." Virgil look back at Roman, but never meeting his eyes. "I don't just kiss my friends and move on! My mind will never live it down. Don't you hate me for that?"
"I could never hate you..." Roman opened his arms for hug, offering a gental smile. Virgil look at him for a little longer before placing his bottle done and crawling onto Roman's lap.
They stayed like that for a while. Virgil sat in Roman's arms.
"And presides... I wouldn't mind another one..."
Virgil looked up at Roman shock, to say the least.
"B-... but when we met, you said-"
"I said we can have a friendship so I at least knew who you are before I even think about letting you play me."
"I don't want to play you. I don't brake you. I couldn't do that to y-"
"Virgil. I don't care if it's one night or more. I want you. And if you don't like it... we can go back to before, like it never happened."
--------------------
3 years later
--------------------
"Oh. My. God."
"What is it?" Roman looked at Virgil confused.
"Deceit's over there." Virgil hid behind Roman to make sure, the tall man with tattoos didn't see him.
"Daddy, who's Deceit?" A little girl about the age of 4, looked up at Virgil as she gentally tugged on his hand.
"An old friend, sweetie."
"Can I meet him?"
"No Darling." Roman looked down at the little girl who had a curious look in her blue eyes.
"But Papa-"
"No, he's not... friendly?" Virgil stated, trying to see how to place his words.
It had been 3 years. The first year, Roman got Virgil out of his habbits and his player side. The second year, they spent every minute with eachother, Virgil afraid that if Roman left, he would go back to the beginning. The third year, they adopted a little girl who was perfect for them. It was soon coming to the 4th year.
"But Daddy and Papa... he's coming over now." Virgil's eyes grew wide as he turned to look at where Deceit just was, and true to her words, Deceit was on his way over. He picked her up and handed her Roman.
"How about you and papa go get ice cream?"
"Virgil?"
"I just want to sort this out."
--------------------
"Who was that?"
"Which one?"
"The girl. I've never seen you with or mention a little girl."
"My daughter?"
"Oh so you settled down then? Is Roman the father?"
"Yes. Why?"
"No reason. I guess I had a little hope you still wanted what we had."
"That was 3 years ago."
"I say again... hope."
"I guess you had it coming for going with the play boy. You knew that aswell. But I'm not the same guy anymore. So leave me and my family alone."
"Remember that you came to me, not the other way around."
"Look. You were... amazing. Okay? But that's not me anymore. You should meet my friend, Remy. He's a player. Calls you 'Hottie' and he's the one who told me to talk to you."
Before anything else was said, Virgil walked away towards Roman and his daughter with a smile.
"Daddy!" Virgil grinned as he picked her up.
"Hey sweetie."
Roman kissed Virgil's lips before asking-
"Is everything okay?"
"Yeah. It's hopefully sorted out."
"Daddy, I got you a chocolate!" She smiled as she handed Virgil the chocolate icecream.
"Aww thanks baby girl." He said before kissing her forehead.
-------------------
He didn't need to be a play boy to change his fear of missing people. He didn't need achohol to forget the past. All he needed was this. A family. No matter how small it was. It was perfect.
Virgil was seated on the couch and he tried to set up the disney movie, but also watching as his husband chased his now 6 year old daugter around the room. Their laughter was like music. Virgil smiled as the sight and sound of his family. Their daughter soon launched herself onto the couch and tucked herself under Virgil's arm. Roman sat on the other side of her, but his arm around the back of the couch, his hand resting on Virgil's shoulder. Aladdin playing on the screen.
This was all he needed to know he wasn't alone anymore. And this time... no one was leaving.
... well until their daughter grows up and leaves to start her own life. That's why Virgil's counting to make moments like this matter. He loved his family. He really did.
