Review on last 2 parts:
Roman and Virgil got split up by their homophobic parents and Virgil was sent to a private school and pretended to be straight while Roman stayed at his school and did the same, but in a slightly different light- he was miserable and pushed people away other than his friends Patton and Logan who he met couple months after Virgil left. Roman's mum had slapped him when she noticed no change in his behaviour but Roman's dad has learnt that being gay is apart of who his son is. Virgil came back and Roman and Virgil started secretly dating again (with the help of Patton's sleepover idea). OMG Patton is gay too!! OMG so is Logan AND him and Patton are dating!!! What?!?!?! No shock (we all know). Virgil and Roman plan on moving out into a little house for them once they are at legal age to do so.
I think I covered it. On with the story!!
Roman's POV (like the other two chapters):
The alarm blared in my ears as I groggly rubbed the sleep from my eyes and turned the ringing off. Another day. It's what it always is. Night turns to day and day turns to night; and that's how every other day starts. It feels like every other day. But it's not. Life starting to get good. Dad is accepting me. Virgil's back in my life once again. Patton and Logan dating was a surprise, but I can now see all the signs and how they show effection in school hours. Mum still hates me; who cares though. The time she slapped me has been the only time. Dad was always around to make sure of that. Another day. Any other day. But today, no matter how cold and lonely the world is... I know there's people who finally care. Patton. Logan. My Dad. And most importantly, Virgil.
Virgil. The first boy I've ever loved. The boy who showed me flaws matter in the eyes of beauty. The boy that got sent away. The boy who came back. He claims he hasn't changed in the time away, but I can see it. It's not bad, it's beautiful. This timid, shy and cute emo blossomed into a more confident, hot, edge lord. I can see it. I don't know much about his time away, but it definitely made him stronger in the eyes of beauty. He still has his anxious moments and times were he secludes himself away from people, but he stands up to people who hurt others, I witnessed him stand up to his parents... not that I should have been in eyesight of his parents.
Another day. Any other day. But a day where Virgil's back. I got to keep making every moment count... I never know when he might be shipped off next.
I smile as I sit up in the white sheets of my bed. Stretching my arms wide to wake my body as I start to move. One foot in front of the other. Something Virgil used to say...
"Hey, are you okay?"
"Yeah... why wouldn't I be?"
"Well... that was a big scene..."
"One foot in front of the other I guess..."
Roman looked at the emo beside him with curiosity, shoving his hands into the pockets of his hoodie.
"What?"
"One foot in front of the other. Like how every day starts out. Wake up, and no matter how life pressures you and makes you want to stay curled up in the covers of your bed, you still get up and move. One foot in front of the other. "
"Your a strange person... you know that?"
"I'm not the one talking to a stranger now, am I?"
"You know me?"
"See you at school, Roman."
One foot infront of the other, and Roman was making his way down the stairs. He moved into the kitchen as his father turned around with a steaming mug of coffee. The sent wafting around the room.
"Sleep well?"
"As well as I can."
"That's good... I guess."
His dad took a sip of the liquid as his eyes closed, Roman walking around him to grab some cereal and the milk. Once he was seated down at the table with his bowl of cereal, he slowly ate the food, taking in the feeling of it running down his throat. His dad took the stall infront of him with a smile.
"So? Anything panned for today?"
"Well... going to Patton's house once again. Not sleeping over tonight though."
"Oh? How come?"
"Patton has family coming over tomorrow, and Logan is working late tonight."
"Ahh okay..."
Roman's mother walked in and gave a slight scoff, deciding to ignore her son. His Dad only have her a slight glance before returning his full attention back to his son.
Family. Supposed to be a walm and loving word. A word that when mentioned, you feel calm and at peace. A word that means unconditional love from a mother, father and siblings if any. Right now, that word was dust. That word is dust in the collected of the past, and left in the present. That's why Roman and Virgil plan to move into their own apartment. Love unconditionally, get jobs to secure them, adopt, create a family, love them unconditionally and grow old together. Family isn't apart of Roman's present, but more... a word for the future.
"So what time would you be home?"
"I don't know. Maybe when Logan leaves or I might stay a bit longer."
"Patton's house is basically your second home." Roman's father laughed as a smile spread onto his lips.
Home. Home is where the heart is. Patton's house isn't his second home. It is his home. Virgil's there. Patton's there. Logan's there. Love is there. Friendship is there.
"I guess."
Roman decided to just finish his cereal quickly as he tried to ignore his mother. She stood tall in the corner of the room, making some toast and a tea.
"I'll be leaving soon..."
"Okay Kid."
Roman glanced at his mom and looked at her questionly. "Mom? ... that okay with you?"
She looked up before looking towards her husband, a puzzling look plastered on her face. "Huh... thought I heard something..."
"For Heaven's sake, Mother! I'm your fucking son!!"
Roman huffed and left the room (pushing his bowl onto the counter on his way out) anger boiling through his veins. He stood on the other side of the wall, standing beside the door to the kitchen he just left. His breath was uneven, but nothing a few deep breaths couldn't fix. Roman lent against the wall as he listened to the conversation starting up in the room.
"Darling. He's your son. You can't treat him like that."
"Michael, you know what he is! It's unnatural to like the same gender!"
"He's still your child, our child. No matter his decisions, we need to care for him. He's not a legal adult yet so he needs a mother to be there to care for him."
"Oh please. That boy he's so inlove with probably is being treated 10x as bad. And I heard he manged to straighten out. Roman needs to do the same!"
"That boy has a name. Katy. Virgil contributed to Roman's life more than we ever did in the 3years we knew him and maybe the year he's been gone. Our son probably even turned gay because Virgil treated Ro more as a person than you ever have."
"You can't be on their side!"
"You hit our son!"
Silence.
Roman took another deep breath before walking up the stairs, not wanting to hear anymore of the conversation. He tried to hold back the tears, but they were already running down his tanned skin. He wiped at his eyes delicately, trying to keep his presentable look, knowing he might have to splash water on his face to get rid of the red blotches on his cheeks. He reached his room and shut the door lightly.
Don't lash out. Come on Roman! Breath. Deep breaths, big deep breaths...
"I need you to breath for me... deep breaths."
"I-I c-can't! T-t-throat... Ro!"
Virgil clawed at his throat and the fabric of his shirt to pull it away, trying to find anything to help him breath. He pushed himself into the corner of the school's bathroom walls.
"Follow my breathing-" Roman pulled Virgil into his lap and brought Virgil's hand to lay on the red fabric that clung to his chest. "In.... and~ out.... In..... and out~...."
Soon Virgil's breathing was shallow, but still shaking as he steadied his trembling.
"You didn't have to do that..."
"Virgil, you almost stopped breat-"
"Not that... you didn't have to defend me..."
"Hey," Roman brought Virgil's chin up to look at eachother, and they could both tell how broken the other was. "For you? I'd risk anything..."
Roman sighed to himself as he finally calmed down. His breaths now even and that single memory dancing at his mind. They had been dating a few months before and that was when Roman found out about the bullying that was going on between his boyfriend and to what he thought was a friend. They had promised to keep their relationship quiet in fear of homophobes, and what Roman's 'friend' was doing, they were both glad that they hadn't even told their friends.
"One foot infront of the other."
"You're quite extraordinary, aren't you Roman Prince?"
"How do you feel about homsexuals?"
"Virgil black? Can I call you mine~?"
"For you? I'd risk anything..."
"I don't think you know how much light you brought into my life, Virgil Webb."
"I love you."
"You boys need to explain yourselves!"
"I don't want you two together!"
"Roman! You better fucking straighten up you little faggot or I want out of this house!"
"Mum! I'm right here! Listen to me!"
"Dad..?"
"Roman, you need to let go of him. He's gone!"
"I doubt Virgil's coming back."
"I honestly say you need to get over him."
"I'm sorry, you okay?"
"I-I'm... gay? I mean I'm great! I'm okay... hi..."
"Babe... you seem anxious."
"I want you and only you."
"Goodnight mi amour ... my love."
"Picture perfect."
"You're no son of mine."
Roman ran a hand though his hair as more memories flooded him. He slipped back out of his room and into the bathroom. He lent over the sink as he turned the taps, splashing water onto his face till he hoped his face had calmed down.
He dried his face and walked back dowm the stairs and out the door. Not caring to say goodbye. They know where he's heading.
He had his hands shoved into his pockets as he tried to act as normal (and as straight) as he could. The walk was almost nerving. It's not like it's not an everyday thing. Either morning or evening; sometimes even night, but sometimes he wished things would go back to before. When Virgil would turn up at his house unexpectedly, claiming he wanted a movie day or dragging Roman to Starbucks. Back when Roman's mother used to hug him when he was down, and try to make conversation with him. When his father...acually, he prefers hks dad the way he is now; the change was for the better, not for worse.
He walked up the cobbled path of Patton's drive and knocked on the door. The door shifted before slowly opening and Virgil peered out.
"Hey~"
"Hey stormcloud~ You gonna let me in?"
"What's the password?"
Roman stiffled a chuckle as he tilted his head.
"I'm guessing we're watching tangled?"
"'Not even close'." Virgil giggled as he quoted the lines from the movie just mentioned.
"A password... let me see... is it...," Roman pretended to think, but knowing full well that Virgil was going to let him in depending on how weird, cute or obvious answer he gave. " Oh! Is it 'I love you and I hate my parents so much?'"
"Omg! How did you know?"
Roman giggled as Virgil shifted to open the door. Roman stepped in and immediately pressed his lips to his lovers.
Once they broke apart, they both smiled before Virgil's face slowly fell, he stepped closer and cupped Roman's face. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be? I have you right here. I have Logan and Patton somewhere. Where are they?"
"Don't change the subject."
"Baby, I'm fine."
Virgil sighed and lent closer to Roman's ear, and placing a gental kiss on his cheek. "Your face is still slightly red from crying."
"It's just mum."
"She hurt you again?"
"No. Just pretending I don't exist so her and Dad got in a fight."
Virgil stepped away and slid his hand into Roman's, leading him into the sitting room.
"They were fighting? But I thought that-"
"Dad's acually pretty okay with it now."
Virgil's eyes flew open as he pushed Roman to sitting on the couch, slowly lowering himself into Roman's lap.
"Does he know I'm here?"
"No. God no! I don't trust him enough to not tell mum." Virgil let out a thankful sigh and lent his head onto Roman's shoulder, curling up closer to his boyfriend. "All he knows, is that I'm not de-gaying myself any time soon. He knows I love you and nothings changing that and he's learnt to accept it, and to accept me."
"That's one parent on our side then."
"Hey, that's not true. We have three. Patton's parents are supportive."
"Our parents, Ro."
"Yeah..." Roman nuzzled his face into Virgil's neck, causing the emo to giggle as he tried to (not fully) pull away from the sensation of the soft tickling.
Their conversations varied through different topics, they had even manged to put tangled in and got to the scene of them about to arrive to the kingdom. (Repunzel had just ment Maximus.)
"Where are Pat and Lo, by the way?"
"Collecting Pizza instead of ordering. I don't know why but they just decided they wanted a journey and I was left to wait for you..."
Virgil dropped his head onto the back of the couch with a dramatic sigh, causing Roman to gasp. "Huh! How dare you! And I thought you loved me?!"
Roman grazed his fingers on the shorter's sides making Virgil squirm with laughter. "Stop! -Ro-... Roman! S-Stop! I love you-! St-stawp!"
Stopping his actions, Roman let Virgil pin his arms away from his body before Virgil slowly cupped his face, trying to catch his breath back.
"I love you. I have loved for 3 years and I'm never gonna stop."
They pressed their lips together once again, showing their passion and love through that kiss. Roman wrapped his arms back around Virgil's waist before a knock sounded at the door. They broke apart and Virgil shuffled off Roman's lap with a smile.
"Prob just Pat and Lo."
As soon as Virgil left the room, Roman was a alone, but something struck his mind.
If that was Pat and Lo, wouldn't they walk straight in? If their hands were full, how were they able to get that heavy of a knock? Why did that knock sound almost angry? Why- wait.
Roman lept up and scurried out the lounge after his boyfriend.
"Wait! Babe, don't open the-"
Roman reached the lounge door and stepped into the hallway, his eyes widening at the sight before him.
Virgil had just opened the door and was probably just as scared as him, maybe even more fearful. His skin had paled to almost be whiter than a sheet of paper as he stood frozen in the spot.
"... Virgil Webb."
"... Katy Prince..." Virgil shifted his gaze to Roman's father after a while of intense eye contact with Roman's mother. "... I-... I um-..." Virgil swallowed thickly as his breathing grew harsh
Mike shifted in his feet as a smirk tugged at the side of his lips as he spotted his son behind. Katy spotted him soon after and her eyes grew cold.
"Roman Alexander Prince! Here. Now."
Roman walked over and pressed his shoulder to Virgil's as be trailed his hand to intwine their fingers; hoping to try calm Virgil's breathing.
"Explain to me... what exactly is going on and why the fuck he's here!"
Roman's throat went dry as he opened his mouth, almost to find his own anxiety shooting through the roof.
"Umm... Virgil moved back? ... 2 months ago?" Roman paused as he watched more anger build up in her eyes. "... And... we're dating?... again?"
Virgil tightened their grip as his body started to shake- Mike taking notice of this in a flash.
"Katy..."
"Roman. I need you home. Right now!"
"But-"
"Katy?"
"No, Roman! You and your sick, twisted mind need to be straightened out! You faggot!"
"Mum-"
"Katy."
"Virgil, I am contacting your parents about this and you are to never and I mean never to come near Roman again."
"N~No..-"
"But Mu-"
"Katy!"
Katy turned to her husband as fire was set fire to her eyes. "What?!"
"Stop!"
Roman's mum instantly was shook about what Mike had told her. Confusion only just making it's way onto her face.
"What? Honestly Michael?! You-"
"You're scaring them to death!"
"Good! They may get it into their homosexual minds to listen!"
"Katy! We're outside! Not even at our own home! And you think it's okay to lecture them on something they can't change?! Virgil's shaking and in tears and Roman can't even talk to you because you refuse to listen!"
"You're no better!"
"Acually... I am... I pay the bills so I want you out of my house and to leave my family alone!"
Virgil shifted and was now wrapped in Roman's arms as hot tears streamed down his face. Roman currently craddling Virgil as he held back his own. Katy went to speak back before Mike cut in and turned to Virgil. Looking him in the eyes.
"Virgil. I want you to move in. I will even take full custody of you if your parents are still homophobic. And I want you yo feel safe."
A smile broke out onto the two teens faces as Virgil pushed out of Roman's arms and into Mikes, crying into the man's shoulder. Roman stood by as he watched the moment.
Wow...
Roman risked a glance at his mother and immediately regretted it. The look that woman could hold sent icy shivers down his spine, but he smirked once she tore her eyes towards him.
Smirking knowing she lost her husband.
Smirking knowing she lost her home.
Smirking because he won the battle.
He won and so he stood proud.
"Fuck you mum. Hope you have a nice time in hell."
