An Inside Look

As Annabeth and Luke rode up the elevator, she noticed he didn't remove or even loosen his iron grip on her shoulder. He'd been even more protective and stubborn lately, and it worried Annabeth. Uptight boys didn't reach the top of the social ladder, nor did they make their friends shine in a very good light. "Er, Luke?" She asked.

"Hm." He replied shortly, looking straight ahead.

"You can let go now, I think I'm safe from Percy in a closed elevator."

His head snapped down to look at her, as she was a few inches shorter, "Don't ever say his name again!" It was almost as if he was jealous of Percy, but why?

"Luke," Annabeth protested, pushing against his side. "Seriously, let go."

Luke's eyes were hard as steel, and completely focused on her own. "I am not. Letting. You. Go."

"I'm fine!" She shoved his side harder, trying to loosen his grip, but he only tightened it.

"Annabeth, stop!" He shouted at her, and it echoed off the walls of the enclosed space, "I'm protecting you, so shut up and come on!"

Annabeth was at a loss for words. He'd never said anything so harshly to her before. It stung, almost as much as her arms, but on an emotional level. She stayed silent as the door dinged and slid open, and Luke forced her towards the single room on this level. Premium indeed. She had no idea where he really got all this money from, as his mother was definitely in no shape to work. Perhaps it was from his father, who was never mentioned. All she knew was that he left for business, and that was eight years ago. As Luke scanned his I.D card to the door, and it clicked unlocked, he finally let Annabeth go. He stepped inside to the mahogany flooring, and turned towards her, opening it wider, inviting her in.

She didn't move. "What's your deal with Percy Jackson?"

Luke's eyes flashed with rage, and he grabbed her wrist and yanked her inside. She stumbled in, and he slammed the door shut, locking it, as Annabeth's sharp grey eyes caught. "Never talk to him again, or look at him. He's a bad person, Anna. He does drugs, smokes, and ditches class, and I don't want you influenced by him. Heck, he probably drinks too!"

Annabeth wasn't listening anymore, she was mad. She wasn't going to be pushed around anymore. "Maybe I think that's more attractive than a rich boy who thinks he can do whatever the freak he wants! Maybe, I'm not a dumb blonde airhead who can't make any decisions for herself!? Did that ever occur to you?"

Luke growled, and his hand struck out, slapping Annabeth hard across the cheek. She stepped back, one hand to her now stinging face. "Don't you dare talk like that to me! Kronos will not allow it!"

Annabeth stared at him in shock, "What are you talking about, who's Kronos?" She only knew of the Greek mythological Kronos, who was god of time. Maybe it was a code name of some sort?  Who would be so crazy about Luke, almost like he was to her?

"Kronos," Luke began, expression dangerous, "Kronos is the next world dominator... My lord. He resides inside of me, stirring, waking, giving me power. He is patient.. And has waited long to rise once more from the very depths of the world below the underworld... Tartarus." His words were slow and powerful.

"Luke, are you alright?" Annabeth asked quietly, slowly backing away towards his plush living room.

Luke was fast as lightning, and he grabbed Annabeth, throwing her into the wall. "I'm fine... I'm better than I was as a mere mortal, for that matter," He brought his face dangerously close to hers, "Are you afraid, Anna?" He asked quietly.

He was still using his pet name for her, even now. It did scare her, honestly. His mother was mental... Could he have gone off the edge as well? Maybe it was in his genetics. "Luke!" He was pressing her wrists into the wall, crushing them.

"That's not a good answer," He whispered.

Her heart was pounding in her chest like a frightened rabbit's, and her adrenaline was on high. "Luke," she attempted once more, trying desperately to free her pinned arms. The wall was digging into her back, pressing an indent. "Please," she pleaded.

A downside of dating someone athletic? They went to the gym. And they lifted weights at the gym, making them stronger and much heavier than others. Especially men to women.

"I don't like your answer," His blue eyes were seemingly searching her, looking for something she herself didn't know of. "The answer I want, is a yes or no. Are you afraid of me, Miss Chase?"

His breath was hot against her face, and she had to force her face to keep blank. "You're my boyfriend, why would I be afraid?"

She wasn't sure this was her boyfriend though. This didn't seem like the same boy who'd asked her to go to the old carnival with her a few months ago, it seemed like a horror movie possession scene!

"You should be afraid of me, I'm so much more than you. So very, very much." He released her wrists, and turned, practically sauntering over to his plush gray couch. He sat down, actually, he flopped down, tucking his hands behind his head. "You'll see, Anna, you'll see how much I am."

For some reason, despite the calm and light tone Luke, or whoever this man was, used, the words sent chills down her spine.
She rubbed her wrists, which were red, and turned to the door, slowly sliding the lock back to the unlocked position. She was going to find out more, yes, but she'd rather have a quick escape if he was violent with her once more. Thank the Lord himself for the oil that kept the lock silent, the grease. A creaky lock would probably have made this Luke turn. The thought made her shudder.
