Chapter Eleven - A special tour

-Aurora-

While Granny was still at Sandringham, I had asked a while back if as a part of the project's I'm in to we could give kids not in the best situation a chance to see and be part of the tour of the palace. Kids from up and down the country with a trusted adult were coming to Buckingham Palace. What they didn't know is that I would be there and leading them through the day.

Liam was doing his own solo engagement today. While I remained in London he was traveling up to Leeds. With a kiss on the cheek and a good luck I headed out for the day. Making the 15 minute drive to the Place it was closed for the public today. The children and their aunts started arriving and by 10 they were beginning

"Hello Everyone. I'm Sarah" Sarah one of the tour guides greeted

"Hi." there were a chorus of hellos and hi.

"Welcome to Buckingham Palace, I'm happy that you've come here today. Now I'm one of the tour guides here at the Palace but I'm not the one who's going to be taking you around today." I walked out

"Hey, guys." the turned around and there was a gasp

"It's the Princess." some of the older children chimed as i came over to join them "Guys it's Princess Aurora." i gave them a wave

"I hope you don't mind if I take you around today, is that okay?" they all agreed "Thank you Sarah." she nodded her head and moved to the back

"Are you really a Princess?" one of the little one's questioned

"Yeah, I really am a Princess." I chuckled "My Granny is the Queen." the seemed in awe of everything going on.

"I have a lot to show you today and there are some activities along the way, so who's ready to get started?" they cheered and I nodded "All right then lets get started. So right now we're in Queen Victoria's throne room. Now out of curiosity how many rooms do you think are in this Palace?" they raised their hands

"Yes what's your name?"

"Dylan and a thousand!" he exclaimed

"Not quite a thousand but it does feel like that sometimes, any one else?" a older girl probably about 11 raised her hand "Yes..."

"Mila 600?" she wondered

"So close, In this Palace alone there are 775 rooms." they were shocked "These include 19 state rooms where Her Majesty the Queen will host guests. 52 royal and guest bedrooms 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. Then you have other special rooms like swimming pool where us members of the family learn to swim, a cinema for the staff and other cool things like that." Another raised there has

"Does the Queen use all of the rooms?" he wondered

"No, she doesn't The Queen uses roughly six rooms on a day to day basis. Now the Palace isn't just home to the Queen but its also where she works. Does anyone here know or actually live above a place of work?" a few raised their hands "it's like that. on the lower floors its a hub of activity for a work day and above are where family members go to relax after a busy day."

"But what does she actually do?"

"Come with me and find out. I started walking backwards "so Her Majesty the Queen attends to matters of state. The government are busy with doing what they think is best for our country. What is said, done and created is then sent to the Queen where she looks over what is going on. Some of what she gets needs royal accent which is a fancy way to say the Queen's yes to what they ask. So it can be officially become law.

Not only that but she helps keep the friendship to other countries not just of the commonwealth but everyone." We came to stop in one of the offices "Now sadly I can't take you to the actual office the Queen uses but it's a lot like this one. Everyday My granny receives a red box filled with homework and it her job to go through it all and do what she needs to do."

"Go ahead have a look around." they split off

"Is the Queen here today?" a little boy wondered and I dipped down to talk to him "I'm William."

"William, that's a good name, one of my brothers is called William, and my husband as well." i chuckled "My Granny's not here today, no."

"Where is she?"

"She's at Sandringham." another kid answered " Right? That's what Mr Davis told us anyway."

"Yes, that's right. If you ever pass here it's easy to tell whether she's at home. If the union jack flys on the flag pole she's not in. If the royal flag is up then she's in here " I nodded "But even at Christmas she still works, the only days she does is Christmas day. She's very busy."

"Does that mean you don't get to see her?" a five year old girl asked

"Of course not. Just because she's the Queen doesn't mean she never stops being a mummy, granny and more recently a great granny. Though she works every single day, she keeps balance, she will work in the morning and have free time in the afternoon, then it can be the other way around. Come on."

"So what does she do when she's not working?"

"Spends time with her family, horse riding, playing cards, playing with us. We have meals or one to one time."

"Welcome to the Picture Gallery" I held my arms out "Here we have a small collection of beautiful and yes very old and sometimes boring paintings. This gallery houses a small group of art. The rest are in other houses and in galleries" We made our way to the first activity which was making our own crowns.

"Princess, my teacher says your a Duchess as, well. What is that and why?"

"A Duchess is a member of nobility and they're married or widowed to a Duke. Duchess is the second title I took after marrying my husband." I answered

"So your both?"

"Yes. I was born a Princess and when I married i became a Duchess. So my full title is Her Royal Highness Princess Aurora the Duchess of Suffolk."

"So is your husband a Prince?"

"No. Prince or Princess are born, like me. My husband is a Duke. His Royal Highness William the Duke of Suffolk." I answer "Okay now that our crowns are done who want to learn how to be royal for the day." they raised their hands

"Okay. So up first we'll have Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. I tapped the heads. and they came forward. What's your names?"

"Elijah.

"Una."

"Right Una is the Queen and the Queen bows to no one. Her Majesty Queen Una will nod her head in greeting to every one and shake their hand. Usually if there is queen as the head it's unlikely she'll have a King with her because the old annoying rules say that a King is higher than a Queen. Which is why her husband is Prince Phillip.

"Who wants to be the Queen's children?" i picked four out. "Don't worry with the British royal family you will all get a turn at someone. Okay..." I lined them out of the family and then instructed them

"Okay, we're gonna play a game that me and my family play. It's called meet and greet. So now knowing who you are. I want you to think in your head who you would greet with a bow and curtsy and who would do that to you. So without me saying anything walk around the room and give your hello. Remember boys bow from the neck and girls curtsy," they walked around bowing and curtsying while i joined the adults.

"So how do your family play this, if you don't mind me asking?"

"No not at all, we have the name necklaces like the children have and then we swap names, because we have such a big family sometimes we think as ourselves rather than who is on our name card. Its fun." I chuckle
