Ah Hua

Ah Hua remembered the day of the fire, the day she wasn't beside her master, her savior, and her friend. "It was my fault that you died on that day. It was my fault. Have I gone faster to your side? You wouldn't have been forced to take your own life. You would never-"

She was desperate, pacing in the dungeon. Ah Hua couldn't sit nor stand. She walked from front to back, left to right in the empty cell that only had a wooden bed and straws at the side. "If I wasn't so stupid, the damn eunuch wouldn't be able to lock me up in here. I would rather stay by her side than leave her alone. I need to get out from here," thought the woman.

Suddenly, someone was rushing into the dungeon, and she heard them talking about the fire that was spreading in the palace. "We need help. You and you, go fetch buckets and go help to put it out. I will stay here watching over the prisoners," said one of the prison guards.

The others passed their keys to him.

Everyone moved swiftly and left while the guard held all the keys continued to sit over at the table and began polishing his weapon. "Have to keep it sharp," said the man as he looked over at Ah Hua. "You are a little pretty thing," as he walked over to her.

She stared at her from the prison bars that separated them.

He was closed enough to the bars and Ah Hua grabbed his neck with her arms, snatching away his weapon and stabbed him to death. He gurgled blood as he tried to call out for help, but he was already dead. The woman took the keys and freed herself from the prison. She wiped away the blood on her hands and headed out. "I have to find the princess," thought the woman.

She looked over at the other prisoners and threw the key to one of them. "Free yourself from here. I know that stupid head eunuch must have accuse you of something and locked up you guys in here as well."

After telling them that, she quickly walked away and exchanged clothes with a nearby maid and then she went to the direction of the gate, which she heard from the kidnapped maid that the princess will be passing through later when she is leaving the palace. As she walked, Ah Hua saw the fire that was burning in the palace. Everyone was headed there, to save the fire that there were less people who noticed her.

She patted at the palace. She didn't care about this place nor the people in it. They were only bad memories from the time she took her first step in this place. She was sold and was bought in her as a servant. She was worked hard and starved. If she wasn't saved by the princes, that life would have continued until the moment she died.

Ah Hua stared at the hands she had, "If I hadn't met the princess, these hands filled with callouses from training with the sword would have been caused by wood chopping and carrying water. I would have never learned letters and be a vice commander."

Suddenly someone was yelling across the threshold. She quickly hid and saw the barbarians were entering the palace. "What is happening? Why are they so many enemies here? This is the capital. How?" thought Ah Hua. There were many questions running inside her mind, but she knew that the princess was in danger. She needed to hurry to her side but there were many enemies.

She felt a sudden chill behind her and narrowly escaped from death. A barbarian was looking at her and tried to kill her. Without a second thought, Ah Hua turned tail and ran away, without a weapon she would be dumb to fight against him. "My princess, please be safe."

Screams were heard as she ran away. She caught a guard who was heading towards the enemies and asked him, "Where is the princess? Did you leave he palace?"

The guard was annoyed being held back by her, but he replied, "She didn't leave. She went to the throne room where the fire was. She wanted to save the emperor that was imprisoned by a sea of flames."

The guard left and Ah Hua was angry at herself, "I should have headed to the fire. The princess loved the emperor. It was a mistake on my side." The woman hurried to the main hall but when she arrived, she saw someone leaving from the side hall.

"Who is it?" thought the Ah Hua as her clothes were not slightly even burned at the edges since she escaped from the burning hall. However, the color, it was red. "Princess?" She ran after the girl.

Ah Hua stared at the girl in front of her. Her little princess, YuanMing.

"Calm down, YuanMing. Calm down child," comforted Ah Hua but suddenly she pushed her away.

There was a scared expression on her face. "Who am I? Why am I remembering these? I don't want to remember. I am just YuanMing. YuanMing, I am princess YuanMing."

Ah Hua was getting anxious at her condition. She remembered this; it had happened many times. "No, YuanMing. No, you mustn't. Take a deep breath. Calm down." Ah Hua tried to approach her, but YuanMing couldn't and didn't allow her to touch her and ran away.
