o. a chance encounter
THE DOOR TO LEO'S HOUSE SEEMED COLDER THAN IVY THOUGHT IT WOULD BE, THOUGH SHE SUPPOSED IT WAS DUE TO LEO NOT LEAVING OFTEN ENOUGH. She knocked on the door, and unlike with Remus, the door opened almost instantly as though he was waiting for someone. Leo took one look at Ivy and smiled weakly, ushering her in silently and closing the door.
"When did you come back?" He asked, walking into the living room.
The whole house was cold, Ivy noticed but she didn't make much comment. "Two weeks ago, I was busy working on a personal case and I didn't want it to potentially danger you or anyone else. I'm sorry I didn't contact you sooner, I can't imagine what you must be feeling right now."
"I just don't know what to do."
"I'm here for you." Ivy assured him. "I come back to England and it's a mess."
Leo, looked away from her, staring at a photo leaning atop the fireplace. "We're not kids anymore."
"Merlin, Leo, I know." She shivered, and pulled him close to her. "I know."
"I've done everything I can but everyone I've asked has no idea what happened." Leo shook, and Ivy held tighter to keep him steady. "He's just gone, without a trace. Monty can't find him and she can find everyone."
Ivy nestled her head into his neck and breathed in. "Have you ever considered that he doesn't want to be found?"
"No. Why would he just leave? He wouldn't just leave me alone in this house, we swore we would stay here together. Even if there was a war, he promised and now he's gone. He lied to me." Leo couldn't contain it any longer, and his body wracked with sobs.
Ivy kept him as close as she possibly could and rubbed gentle shapes into his back. "Shh, it will be okay. We'll find him and we'll get him back Leo, I swear it. Whatever it takes."
___________
Ivy walked down the street, noticing the eery darkness that seemed to creep up from every edge and even the streetlight flickered every few moments. There was nothing to suggest it was a dangerous place but the way that the street was almost silent was starting to creep Ivy out until she noticed a rush of ginger hair.
"Percy? Is that you?" questioned Ivy, soft enough that she wasn't even sure he had heard.
"Ivy?" He hissed quietly, mumbling a few choice words under his breath. "I thought you were in Egypt."
"I came back, obviously." She replied sharply. "You haven't happened to see Luke around have you? I was hoping to find him but he hasn't been home."
"No, I erm, haven't." Percy responded, and went to put his keys through the door. "Now if you'll excuse me, I would like to go inside and go to sleep. I have an early shift at the ministry tomorrow."
Ivy rolled her eyes. "Typical, of course you would have. Goodnight."
She continued to walk down the street, turning around every few moments, swearing she could hear something behind her. Every time she looked however, nothing was there.
In the distance, they looked on watching her turn her head in suspicion. They turned away, eyes glazing over, before apparating away.
__________
"It's the only way he'll learn, Rebecca."
"Please! We've known each other since Hogwarts, Trevor, please! Have some sympathy."
"Oh would you shut up already!" Trevor yelled, his voice echoing off the walls of the basement. "I was going to make it a quick demonstration but it appears your mouth has just earned you a bit more...fun."
"Mum, I don't want to."
"You have to do it son, it's the only way." Rebecca sneered. "Teach him a lesson."
The boy held up his wand and mustered all the anger and hatred he could summon looking at the man in front of him. The man looked up at him and silently begged but the boy just mouthed that he had no choice.
"Crucio!"
The man writhed in pain, screaming over and over, begging it to stop.
"That's my boy! Hit him where it hurts!" Trevor cackled.
The son couldn't hold it up any longer, and he let go of his wand, breathless.
Rebecca glanced over at Trevor and her son and held out her own wand, pointing it at the man. "You want it to stop? I'll make it stop. Avada Kedavra!"
And the light left his eyes in an instant.
