CHAPTER - 3
"Babe," Brendan moans in my ears.
"What you sleepy head? Get up now. Some people do have work to attend to." I push him off me, peeling off the covers. "No," he whines, dragging the "O" way too long. Trust Brendan to go all dramatic. He grabs my hand and pulls me back in, tucking my hairs behind my ear.
"You won't agree like this, seems like I have to punish you," I scream, getting on his chest and banging on his broad abs. My hands actually have no effect on his skin whatsoever as he laughs and drags me down on his chest with his big, muscled hands. My body squashes against him and I breathe in the scent of his perfume, which is still lingering from yesterday's party. I know at that moment that I don't want to leave. It will be so good if I could stay like this the whole days, wrapped in each other's arms. But reality kicks in soon and I shake off my laziness and get off him. He gives me his signature puppy eyes look.
"Not today, love," I plant a quick kiss on his lips, breaking off before he could actually deepen it.
"What will you say to your mum?" he rolls over, yawning. Brendan has all the time in the world. He works from home and does multimedia editing for big companies. He has been chasing Disney animations for quite some time and rumors are in the air that Disney may after all be short on staff and willing to hire.
"My mum knows I'm staying over at Gladys' for the night. And I'm supposedly playing with her twins. Who knows I'm babysitting this grown up baby here?"
I brush the tip of his nose lightly. He tries to bite my finger when I give him a light slap and go about my work, chuckling to myself.
Morning is the most blissful time for us both. I cook him breakfast which is mostly scrambled eggs and toast with his favorite espresso coffee. I can't cook for the life of me, but he never complains about having a proper breakfast. I never learnt to cook. Maybe I was too focused on my career. Most of the work at my apartment is done by the maid and I eat all junk for lunch and dinner. So basically breakfast is far healthier for me. "Yum, yum," he licks his fingertips with unnecessary emphasis and suddenly licks one of mine too.
"Jeez!" I push him away, "Keep your tongue off me."
That is the wrong move, because he seems to get more agitated and soon I'm fighting off his unruly tongue with the folded Morning Daily.
After the dishes have been done, I throw on my formals and slip into my heels, with Brendan tugging along like a forlorn puppy. He follows me around every time as if I'd hide behind the curtains and jump on him saying peek-a-boo! Argh!
He's still so childish. I doubt if I've made a mistake in choosing him, but hey, he loves me and I him. After all it was love at first sight or maybe love at first bite, because he bought me an ice-cream when I had no money and no friends to borrow money from as I had had a fight with Gladys.
Still smiling to myself even at the tuberail station, I check the phone for a goodbye message from him. He has sent a hell lot of cute emoticons. I try to balance my briefcase in one hand and the phone in the other, typing furiously, my whole attention on the screen when I bump into a lady.
"Ouch!" She screams, pushing me as I trip over a bench, stagger back two feet and catch my footing on someone's shoes and find myself falling on my front.
A man reaches out to grab my hand to break my fall but instead of falling on his chest gracefully, like they do in movies, I hang precariously, one leg on the ground and one arm in his grip and my briefcase split open. How do they do it in movies and make it appear as if the time stops for the breath of a second?
"Hey, you okay?" my savior grabs my other hand, hoisting me on my feet as he squats on the platform trying to gather my stuff. I sit down beside him too and in a minute we gather almost all the papers except those lost under the feet of the ever moving crowd. I'll have to do damage control back at office. Finally we're both up on our feet and I look at him to thank him. My heart really stops for a moment. It's him. That man.
"Jason?" I gape at him in disbelief.
"Oh... It's Patty—"
"Don't dare," I hiss.
"Oops, sorry Patriesse. So it's you that gave me the head-butt." he grins.
"I didn't give you a head-butt." I put my hands on my hips, sounding angry. "It's just that —"
"That you were too busy on your phone to notice the world around. Who was it? Your bee-eff?"
I blush fiercely. "It's none of your business."
"Oh —Believe me, it is my business if someone assaults me with their head." he is clearly enjoying my discomfort.
"You're impossible."
"I never said I'm possible." he crosses his arms, looking into my eyes.
"I—I—Ummm you go by this route every day?" I ask, trying to change the topic.
"Nope, I was going to see you at your office."
