Chapter Fifty Two

~Amy's POV~

I felt a strange sense of calm wash over me as Bakugo rushed at me swinging his fist. Thanks to our training sessions, I was getting better at reading his movements. He was trying to make me think he was swinging with his left but he was going to fake out with a right hook. I easily deflected with my left arm, knocking his hit away before countering with my own right hook. Pride filled his crimson eyes as my fist connected with his chin.

"AH! Katsuki! I'm so-!" I began to squeal but cut off as he clapped a hand over my mouth.

"What the hell did I tell you?!" He roared.

"Hey, watch how you talk to the Princess." Shinso grumbled from his seat in the grass as he, Monoma, and Todoroki had volunteered to watch our training session.

"Why the hell are you all here anyway?!" Bakugo snarled.

"I had nothing better to do." Monoma shrugged.

"Moral support for the Princess." Shinso noted.

"I was worried you'd accidentally hurt her." Todoroki responded bluntly.

"What the hell, Icy Hot?!" Bakugo snarled.

I giggled softly, they were all getting along so much better now. "I'm so happy you guys are friends now!" I beamed.

"Over my dead body." Monoma scowled at the others.

"Definitely not friends." Shinso folded his arms across his chest.

"Let's go again." Bakugo grumbled, ignoring their commentary. "I'm not holding back this time." He smirked.

I felt my heart skip a beat at this. "I'm not sure I'm ready for that."

Bakugo's lips twitched at this as if he were holding himself back from snapping at me, "you are."

I felt a strange sense of elation at his words.

"If you two were using your quirks the loud mouth would be blasted off to the moon." Monoma pointed with a smirk.

"Shut the hell up!" Bakugo snarled before turning on me, "go!"

I leapt back swiftly as he rushed at me. My body moved with practiced grace now. We'd been training for so long I could read his every move by watching his eyes. We were going all out for this round, so I had to stop retreating and dodging and actually get on the offensive. As he rushed me a second time I rushed forward to meet him head on. I crossed my arms in front of me blocking his punch before shoving his fist away and retaliating with a strong kick to his sternum that sent him stumbling back a few paces. Resisting the urge to apologize, I rushed forward as he was momentarily caught off guard.

Bakugo recovered quickly and once I was in reach he caught me in a complicated grapple and attempted to pin me to the ground. Remaining calm, I hooked my leg around him and managed to use his center of gravity against him to flip our positions. Bakugo's back hit the ground hard, instantly winding him and he stared up at me with a mix of awe and pride as I pinned him to the ground.

"I did it!" I cheered.

Bakugo smiled softly, "knew you could."

My face flushed with heat at this.

"What kind of training is this?" A familiar voice sounded near the dorm building, startling all of us.

I turned, still sitting on top of Bakugo to see Togata. "Mirio-senpai?"

"Hey Princess! I have an invitation for you." Togata beamed and held up a small envelope in his hand.

Bakugo grabbed me by the waist and lifted me off of him before getting to his feet and offering me a hand up. He threw a scowl at Togata but said nothing as I went to accept the invitation.

I opened the small envelope to find a neatly scrawled invitation on a small blank card. It was from Sir Nighteye, inviting me to lunch. Why would he want to have lunch with me? Was he upset because I'd turned down his invitation to complete my work study with him? No, that didn't seem right, he'd liked my last rejection letter and even said he looked forward to the next one.

"Right now?" I asked Togata, uncertainly.

"Yep, I'm here to escort you." Togata smiled brightly.

"Escort her where?" Bakugo, Shinso, Monoma and Todoroki all asked simultaneously, causing Mirio to burst into a fit of laughter.

"Hey, that's a neat trick." Togata chuckled.

"Mirio-senpai's mentor invited me to lunch." I held up the invitation only to jump as Monoma took it from me to read it.

"Why?" Bakugo growled.

"He used to be my Dad's sidekick." I offered shyly before looking at Togata, "do I have time to get cleaned up?"

Togata offered me a warm smile, "yeah, take your time, I showed up early."

I threw one last look back at Shinso, Bakugo, Todoroki and Monoma before bowing to them politely, "thanks for your help, everyone." I scurried away to go get a shower.

After a quick shower I headed to my room to change and found Ritsu atop my desk appearing to be practicing his sword fighting skills with a cotton swab. I giggled quietly as I changed into a cute pastel dress that wasn't too fancy or too casual. Ritsu scampered over to me and quickly climbed me as I finished drying my hair.

"Did you want to come to lunch with me?" I asked him with a smile.

Ritsu nodded enthusiastically and I couldn't help but giggle. When I returned to Togata I found Midoriya at his side.

"You're completing your work study with Sir Nighteye, Izuku?" I asked him curiously.

"Ah, I'm not sure yet, I hope to." He looked nervous.

I glanced over at Togata curiously.

"It's kind of an audition." Togata smiled.

I offered Midoriya a bright smile and caught his hands in mine, "I'm sure you'll get accepted, Izuku."

His cheeks flushed bright red, "ah, thanks, Amy." He stammered nervously.

We followed Togata to Nighteye's agency, it was about an hour away by train and Midoriya and I would get bashful anytime anyone would recognize us as UA students. Togata and I kept trying to keep Midoriya positive about his interview with Nighteye. Togata kept emphasizing that Nighteye loved humor and all he had to do was make him laugh and he'd be good.

When we arrived at Nighteye's office, Midoriya threw open the door as Togata called out in greeting, "Heyo! I brought the Princess and that first year guy I mentioned yesterday."

The door swung open to reveal a young woman locked in some kind of contraption being tickled mercilessly. Midoriya and Ritsu, not quite understanding what was going on right away, automatically attempted to cover my eyes. I could hear the young woman squealing in laughter and felt alarmed at what we'd just witnessed. I peeked through Midoriya's fingers and around Ritsu's paws and took in the room. It was covered in All Might posters. Sir Nighteye was just as big a fanboy as Midoriya!

"What kind of place is this?!" Midoriya panicked.

"Guess she didn't make him laugh." Togata said seriously as if that explained anything at all that we were seeing.

Nighteye turned his harsh yellow gaze in our direction, shooting a scrutinizing look at Midoriya before sweeping over to me. His gaze softened as it landed on me. "Ah, Amy I'm so glad you could join me."

I threw a worried look over at Midoriya, it seemed like Sir Nighteye was being mean to him. Was it because of Dad? Midoriya was doubled over and appeared to be shifting his hair in some way before he sprung up appearing to be impersonating Dad.

"I'm Izuku Midoriya." He said in a voice that sounded very similar to Dad's.

I clapped a hand over my mouth trying my hardest not to laugh and held my breath as I waited for Nighteye's reaction to Midoriya's impression.

"What is this, boy? Are you ridiculing All Might?!" Nighteye asked, his gaze practically piercing through Midoriya. "Is this a joke to you?"

Midoriya started to panic and was struggling to keep his face in his silly All Might impression. "N-No!"

"You attempted this blasphemous excuse of an impression on All Might's former sidekick." Nighteye scowled as he reached for Midoriya. I felt momentarily worried and was about to intervene when Nighteye grabbed Midoriya's face and began critiquing every minute detail of the impression he'd mustered up.

Midoriya explained his impression from one of Dad's earlier rescues, giving Nighteye pause. I smiled as the pair of them began geeking out, though Nighteye's geeking out was more tempered and cool as he was still trying to prove something. While Midoriya and Nighteye were geeking out Togata went to release the young woman from the strange tickle machine.

After their geeking out session Nighteye became even more serious as he went to sit at his desk. I stood with Togata and Bubble Girl, Nighteye's sidekick.I felt a little out of place, Nighteye's attitude toward Midoriya was severe and bordering on mean again. Nighteye picked up his signature seal as if he were going to stamp Midoriya's contract and smacked it next to the contract onto the desk.

"I think you missed." Midoriya piped up nervously.

"Because I am not approving this." Nighteye continued to tap his seal to the desk as he talked. "I understand how working here could be beneficial to you, but how can you benefit my agency? How can you contribute to society? How can you be useful to others?" He stood up abruptly and held his seal in his hand, "It's time for you to show with actions not words what you bring to the table." He extended the seal, "three minutes, you have three minutes to try and take this seal from me, if you want to work as a hero under my guidance then stamp that contract yourself." He glanced over at Togata and Bubble Girl, "the two of you, go wait outside."

"Sir!" They answered in unison before taking their leave.

I stood nervously near the door and started to follow.

"You may stay, Amy." Nighteye called to me.

I wasn't sure I wanted to. Nervously I tucked my hands in my dress pockets and froze in place. I glanced over at Midoriya and offered him a bright smile, "I believe in you, Izuku."

Midoriya's cheeks reddened and his expression shifted from one of fear to one of determination, "thanks, Amy."

"I will take no offensive measures and you are free to attack me as you desire. Don't concern yourself with what happens to the room." Nighteye said seriously as he flipped the seal between his fingers. "Just come and get it."

Nighteye announced all of Midoriya's moves before and as he was executing them as if he could see everything he was going to do. I watched as Midoriya flew about the room with amazing speed and precision, being careful not to hit me or any of the All Might merchandise as he tried to take the seal from Nighteye.

"I had high expectations for you until now. You have the power to become a symbol but you're mediocre. Meanwhile villains everywhere are getting reckless and gloom is creeping closer. A pity. All Might chose wrong after all. Mirio should have inherited the power." Nighteye remarked.

Midoriya looked shocked and momentarily hurt. "What are you talking about?"

"Don't get me wrong I do love and respect All Might but I don't understand why he chose you. How can you succeed him?" Nighteye adjusted his glasses as Midoriya froze up looking like he might crumble at any moment. Self doubt began to cripple him. "You think you have time to stand there frozen? Or are you just getting tired and running out of ideas? I was honestly a bit curious when Mirio told me he was going to bring you here to introduce you but it turns out it was a waste of time, there is a candidate who is far worthier of inheriting One for All than you. As such I cannot acknowledge you."

"Stop it!" I looked to Nighteye as tears welled in my eyes, tears for the hurt in Midoriya's heart thinking the person he looked up to most in the world regretted choosing him as a successor. I turned to Midoriya and offered him a tearful smile. "Dad chose you for a reason, Izuku. You are worthy. You're already my hero, you were before you even had a quirk." I smiled at him through the tears threatening to fall, "never forget that."

Tears welled in Midoriya's eyes, "thank you, Amy." It was the boost he needed as he stopped holding back and shot around the room like a bullet. "I'm going to take that stamp from you. I swear. I'm going to make you acknowledge me." Midoriya said, his voice brimming with confidence and determination.

After the remaining time had elapsed, Midoriya smacked into the wall to avoid one of Dad's posters and slid down the wall with a bloody nose. Nighteye had provoked him the whole time, but upon noticing that Midoriya had managed to avoid me and all the All Might posters he seemed deep in thought.

The office door opened and Togata and Bubble Girl returned cheerily. I rushed over to Midoriya's side and quickly pressed a handkerchief to his bloody nose to try and stop the bleeding.

"I'll take the boy, Mirio." Nighteye said after a moment startling me and Midoriya both.

"But I didn't do either of the things you asked me to." Midoriya said in astonishment.

"I told you to take the seal from me and stamp the contract yourself but I didn't say you'd be rejected if you failed." He turned to Togata, "show the boy around Mirio, we'll return shortly." He turned to me, "shall we?"

I hesitated, what if he thought I'd been rude before? But he was being mean to Midoriya and doubting Dad's choice. Bowing my head politely, I ducked out the door and followed along behind him. We went to a nice restaurant within walking distance of the agency. I was nervous and nearly tripped a thousand times in the short walk to get there. Why did he want to have lunch with me? What could he possibly have to discuss with me?

After we were shown to a table a little away from the other guests, tea was served and we were given a moment to look over our menus. I nervously glanced up at Nighteye, his expression was soft and inquisitive. "How is your work study going?"

"Um, g-good. Tech is really kind and I've gotten to meet many other Pro's while helping them with dispatches." I stammered.

Nighteye nodded, "I know my words to Midoriya were harsh, but he has big shoes to fill."

"No he doesn't...he'll forge his own path and be a new kind of symbol of peace. No one will ever replace Dad, but that doesn't mean they can't also become the greatest." I said softly.

Nighteye looked thoughtful before smiling, "you must take after your mother."

It was so hard to remember her now. My heart hurt as I tried to recall the sound of her voice, but it was a distant memory and never sounded right in my head anymore.

"I'm sure you've picked up on some attributes of my quirk through the demonstration with Midoriya, but I wanted to discuss another application of my foresight." He said seriously.

I gave him my full attention, though Ritsu was trying to compete by bringing me random utensils from the table thinking I needed them.

"When the activation criteria is met, I can see years into someone's future with 100% accuracy...or so I believed, until I met you."

"I don't understand."

"I used my quirk on your father, years ago, though he'd asked me not to. I saw his demise, I saw us parting ways but I never saw you." He glanced down at Ritsu struggling to lift my teacup.

"What does that mean?" I asked hesitantly as I assisted Ritsu.

"I don't know. I tried to activate my quirk when I met you and your father at the bookstore, I couldn't use it on you." He noted.

I felt my stomach churn. "...is something wrong with me?"

"I don't believe so." Nighteye offered me a smile, "but with that knowledge in mind, it makes me wonder how many inaccuracies could be in my vision..."

Because of my existence. He didn't want to say it aloud but I knew that was what he meant.

"I did some digging. If my theory is correct, I may have an idea as to why my quirk doesn't work on you."

I held my breath.

"I think, perhaps, you were part of All for One's plan. I believe he may be your maternal grandfather, or at the very least, is somewhere further down the line on your maternal grandfather's side." Nighteye said calmly.

"Being created by beings with One for All and having All for One's blood in your veins, I think it not only protects your quirk from being stolen, but protects you from quirks like mine." He paused, "Amy, are you alright? You've gone very pale." He reached across the table and placed a hand over mine. I felt strangely faint.

I thought of the time Monoma had tried to use his quirk to steal mine, how it nearly killed him. I thought of All for One holding me hostage, did he know we were related? Was it all part of his plan? What plan did he have for me? I couldn't breathe.

"Amy." Nighteye squeezed my hand.

I focused on him and realized everything in the restaurant was floating. "I'm sorry." I squeaked and tried to regain control as I heard the building begin to groan in protest. "I'm sorry." I repeated, my hands were shaking, I couldn't focus, I needed to focus. "I'm sorry."

Ritsu leapt off the table and curled up in the crook of my neck trying to hug me tightly.

"Take a deep breath." Nighteye caught my other hand in his and kept his eyes trained on me. "Everything is fine."

Everything was most definitely not fine.

"Amy!" Midoriya's voice sounded from near the entrance of the restaurant.

"I-Izuku?" I asked shakily.

"It's alright, Amy" He threw his arms around me, "you're calm. I'm calm. Nighteye is calm. Everyone is calm." He hugged me tight and I shakily clung to him as if he were my only lifeline.

I felt my body beginning to relax and I was able to breathe again. Everything returned to its rightful place and I felt myself begin to feel faint again.

"How did you know?" Nighteye asked in awe.

"Everything was floating in the office and even cars on the street." Midoriya replied nervously as he held me against him. That was nearly a block away!

"Izuku." I whispered softly as I felt myself beginning to slip from consciousness.

"Amy?"

"Thanks for saving me." I slumped against him.
