XII. Nine Years
A/N: I haven't edited this chapter and beyond yet, so the writing might not be as good from this point haha😭 sorry! I will continue editing ASAP
The nine years passed by so quickly.
Since then, she'd actually learnt to sort of be okay with her mother.
Only problem was the reason why. The words that Rebecca said to her always stayed in her heart.
"Morning, November." Virginia smiled; her cruelty about her daughter's sexuality never really stopped but the two still sometimes got along.
That was enough for November.
She kind of missed the average world, which she hadn't visited for nine years, but she was okay with that.
"Mommy?" November turned towards Virginia, who was looking at her with a smile on her face.
"What do you want, November?" Virginia inquired, but not in the snappy way she had when November first asked to go into the average world.
"Do you ever think..." The hopeful girl began, "That I could go back out there one day?"
"Maybe, sweetheart." Virginia grinned. "But this time, I'd like to come with you."
November, shocked at her mother's agreement, gazed at Queen Virginia with one of the warmest smiles she'd ever smiled.
"You know, I think I'm starting to understand." November smiled.
"Understand what?"
"Why you're the queen. You're my queen too." November grinned, glad that her mother had finally gotten her humanity back.
"And you're my little princess." She smiled brightly, but it faltered. "I'm very sorry I killed Rebecca. I just didn't want you to turn into a lesbian."
"Well, is it okay if I let you in on a little secret?" November giggled. "The person you killed was a clone."
"Are you serious?" Virginia scoffed.
All of that time she'd spent to finally form a bond with her mother had most likely gone to complete waste.
"That's actually pretty clever." Virginia muttered, chuckling. "Ahh, just don't fall in love with her, okay?"
"Mission accomplished. She was very rude to me the last time I saw her anyway." November sighed.
"Good." Virginia laughed. "You know what? All of the past rulers told me that as a queen, I should hate the poor."
"Oh shit, so now I can't leave the castle?" November frowned.
"November! Language!"
"I'm 20." November giggled.
".... Oh yeah." Virginia smirked. "And no, let me finish my story. Geez, November."
"Okay.." November smiled.
"So all of the previous kings and queens hated the poor. It was like a ritual I wasn't allowed to break."
"Yes?"
"But... Screw it." Virginia said, opening the golden castle gates and pulling out a megaphone.
"Attention, people of the.. normal world."
November smiled when Virginia called it the normal world. Normal. She loved the new side to her mother.
"I'm holding a party in my castle tonight."
The crowd groaned; they always had to buy invitations, and that was for the few who had enough money for that.
"Excuse me, I'm not done yet." Virginia giggled. "All of you are invited! But I learnt that buying your way into a party is ridiculous. You can all come - for free."
The groans in the crowd gradually turned to cheers, November flung her arms around Virginia.
"Thank you so much."
"No problem, November. Now I'd like to meet the girl, Rebecca, who I thought was dead." The Queen laughed.
"Of course." November chuckled, running through the town, trying to find Rebecca.
However, she was slightly scared about seeing her again after all of those years, how would Rebecca react to seeing her again?
Well, one life, one chance, she was going to live that one life and take that one chance. Maybe Rebecca wouldn't be mad.
She knocked on the tattered door of the same old treehouse she'd always known, waiting for an answer if the girl was home.
November was met by Rebecca; even more beautiful than she'd remembered her, and that's saying a lot.
The first words Rebecca said to her could've fixed every single heartbreak she'd caused November.
Rebecca said the words despite Queen Virginia standing right at the entrance behind the princess.
"I've been waiting for nine years to see you at this door."
November's heart melted.
"I'm Rebecca." Rebecca said to Virginia, unsure of how to feel about the queen.
"I'm Virginia. Pleased to meet you." The queen smiled.
'Maybe she isn't as bad as I thought.' Rebecca thought to herself.
"N-Nice to meet you too." Rebecca stammered, surprised by the softness in Virginia's voice.
"I see you and November are friends." Virginia grinned. "You seem a lovely girl."
"Thanks." Rebecca blushed. "You're not too bad for a queen, Virginia. Not too bad."
"Good to hear." Virginia laughed. "Anyhow, I'll leave you two, I have to prepare for the party."
She paused at the door for a second, turning her head back around.
"And remember, Rebecca." The queen gently told her. "You're all invited, free of charge."
A smile formed on Rebecca's face.
"I'll be there."
