014.
DIANA stirred awake. She laid in bed a while trying to fall back asleep. She eventually rolled out of bed and got ready for the day, throwing on a decent outfit. A series of bangs echoed and Diana stood alert. She listened into Stefan and Damon's rooms to hear them snoring lightly. She rolled her eyes wondering how they were still sleeping. She carefully walked downstairs to see Elena and Elijah by the door.
A smirk grew on her face, "Well, well, well," Elena jumped spinning around, "The doppelganger finally seeks help from someone other than the Salvatore brothers," she continued sarcastically.
Elijah smiled at her and she hugged him tightly. Elijah planted a kiss on her forehead and Elena watched the encounter with a scowl, "Well considering you're not helping."
"I'd rather slit my own throat than help you," Diana replied bluntly.
Elena rolled her eyes then turned to Elijah. "Can I trust you?"
"Can I trust you," he shot back with narrowed eyes. Elena pulled the dagger from behind her back and handed it to him and he took it carefully.

Elijah, Diana and Elena sat in Diana's black Camaro whilst Elijah sucked on a blood bag. Diana was driving aimlessly and the car we deathly silent. The tension was so thick it could be cut with a butter knife.
"Pull over here," Elena demanded pointing to the side of the road.
Diana complied turning off the engine before turning to Elijah, "You look better. Well except for your suit."
Elijah nodded before addressing Elena, "Where did you get the dagger from?"
"I'll tell you but we have to work together Elijah. I need your word," Elena pleaded. Diana rolled her eyes as Elijah replied, "Your ability to make demands has long passed." He took another blood bag and sipped on it.
"No demands. I'm offering you my help in exchange for yours."
"And why should I even consider this?" Elijah questioned as Diana looked at her nails in boredom.
"The same reason you haven't killed me. You need my help to kill Klaus and I need you," Elena stated confidently.
"The only reason I haven't killed you is that, Nik needs you for his ritual," Diana shrugged. Elena's phone rang, "Answer it. It's probably my brothers."
Elena answered the phone and Stefan's voice echoed through it, "Where are you? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
"Where's Elijah?"
Rude. He didn't even ask about his favourite sibling.
"He's here."
"Where? I'm on my way."
"No, Stefan. Elijah and I need some time alone. Plus Diana's here," Elena defended.
"Listen to me he can't be trusted. He will use you to get to Klaus."
"Oh my gods," Diana muttered before taking the phone, "She'll be fine Steffie. No harm will come to her. Nik'll kill me if his doppelganger is damaged by the time the sacrifice comes." Elijah chuckled as she handed the phone back to the doppelganger.
"Elijah's a nobleman, Stefan. He lives by a code of honour. I can trust him. He knows that I'd be incredibly stupid to betray him again. By removing the dagger, I've proven myself," Elena assured.
"You can't do this alone."
"I'm not alone. Diana is here and it's my decision, Stefan. Please respect it and make sure Damon doesn't do anything stupid. I'll be in touch," as she hung up Diana could picture the offended look on Damon's face. Elena passed her phone to Elijah who placed it in his jacket pocket. He then held out his hand for Diana's and she raised an eyebrow in challenge.
Elijah sighed in acceptance, "Nik's here," Diana announced blatantly.
Elijah stiffened, "Klaus is here?"
Elena nodded, "He's taken over Alaric's body."
"Of course he has. One of his favourite tricks," Elijah admitted.
"What are his other tricks? What is he going to do next? You're the only one that knows him well enough beside Diana, and she's not saying anything," Elena questioned desperately.
"Yes, I do." Elijah had a dazed look on his face as Diana started the car once again.

They found themselves outside the Lockwood mansion. Elijah said he would be able to get a suit there. When he told Diana that she muttered something along the lines of
You and your suit obsession causing him to crack a smile.
They were now standing on the doorstep waiting for someone to get the door. When Mrs Lockwood finally answered it she was surprised to see her visitors.
"Elijah! Diana! Elena what are you doing here?" she caught sight of Elijah's burnt suit and her eyebrows furrowed, "What happened?"
"I've had a bit of an accident Carol. I was hoping you could help?" Elijah asked innocently.
"Well I'm on my way to a meeting, so I..." she began but was cut off by Elijah stepping inside and compelling her.
"It won't take much of your time."
Carol smiled brightly, "Of course anything you need," she said opening the door wider.
Elijah thanked the woman with a smile, "Well first things first. I'm going to need a change of clothing."
"You mean another suit," Diana muttered lowly so only he could hear.
"Well, you can try one of my husband's suits. I haven't boxed them up yet," Carol offered.
"Wonderful," Elijah commented.
"How do you know she's not on vervain?" Elena inquired confused. "'Cause I'm the one who got her off it. Right before you and your friends killed me. Twice."
Elena looked down guilty and Diana snickered, "If you'll excuse me I'll be down in a moment," Elijah told them.

Mrs Lockwood had left so Diana Elijah and Elena were alone. They were sat in the living room in awkward silence. Elena was as stiff as a board whilst Diana was laid on the couch in a comfortable manner.
"So I assume that the Martin witches are no longer with us," Elijah commented breaking the silence.
"No. I'm sorry," Elena denied with sympathy.
Elijah nodded, "And Katerina. She would have been released from my compulsion when I died."
"Klaus took her. We think she might be dead," Elena said.
Diana groaned, "She's not dead. I saw her last night. And Nik wouldn't just kill her he'd torture her for the amount of time she betrayed him."
"I agree. It's not Klaus' style. Death would be too easy for her after what she did," Elijah said.
"I don't understand. You say you want him dead but you still make Katherine pay for betraying him," Elena shook her head in confusion.
"I have my own reasons for wanting Katerina to pay. There was a time I would have done anything for Klaus," He went into another memory and accidentally let it slip that Klaus was his brother. "Klaus is my brother."
"I heard that. I'm still processing it," Elena muttered.
"Well Helen it would make sense that the Originals are related in some way," Diana said snarkily.
"You knew?"
"Of course I did Helen. I've been with him practically since I was turned," Diana shrugged.
"You're married to Klaus!" Elena exclaimed. Diana shrugged once again whilst Elijah looked at Elena, "Yes. I'm a little behind on the times but I believe the term you're searching for is OMG."
He sipped on his tea as Diana snickered in amusement

"There's a whole family of original vampires?" Elena inquired while Elijah inspected his suit.
"My father was a wealthy land owner in a village, in Eastern Europe. Our mother bore seven children," he explained vaguely.
"So your parents were human?" Elena asked stupidly causing Diana to groan.
"No, Elena their parents were vampires but they magically popped out seven kids. God, if I had a dollar every time you said something smart I'd be broke." Elijah chuckled at the girl.
"Our family was. Our origin as vampires is a very long story, Elena. Just know we're the oldest vampires in the world. We're the original family and from us, all vampires were created," Elijah explained.
"Klaus is your brother and you want him dead," Elena repeated confused.
Elijah however dismissed the question, "I need some air. I'm still feeling a tad..." he paused thinking of the right word, "Dead. Come."
Diana and Elijah walked down the steps towards the garden with Elena trailing behind them like a lost puppy.
"So as you can see nothing can kill an original. Not the sun. Not fire. Not even a werewolf bite. Only the wood from one tree; a tree my family made sure burned," Elijah informed the human.
"That's where the white ash for the dagger comes from," Elena realised.
"Yes. The witches won't allow anything truly immortal to walk the earth. Every creature needs to have a weakness in order to maintain the balance."
"So the sun can't kill an original. Why is Klaus so obsessed with breaking the Sun and the Moon curse?" Elena questioned with confusion plastered all over her face.
"Right." Diana and Elijah were suppressing a laugh, "The curse of the Sun and the Moon. It's all so ... biblical-sounding. Don't you think?"
"What's so funny?" Elena asked noticing their suppressed smile, "I don't understand. Klaus drew the Aztec sketches about the curse."
"Roman scrolls. African tribal etchings and any other culture or continent we felt like planting it in," Elijah added.
"But why?"
"The easiest way to discover the existence of the doppelganger or get your hands on some long lost moonstone. Is to have every single member of two warring species on the lookout for it," Elijah responded.
"So it's not Aztec at all?" Elena questioned desperately.
"It doesn't exist," Diana and Elijah said at the same time.
They then walked away leaving a perplexed Elena, "What?!"
"Klaus and I faked the Sun and the Moon curse dating back over a thousand years," Elijah told them as they strolled through the Lockwood gardens.
"But if there's no curse..." Elena started.
"There is a curse. Just not that one," Diana cuts her off.
"The real one's much worse," Elijah added.
"It's a curse placed on Klaus," Elena's phone vibrated loudly but they continued.
"What are you talking about?" Elena questioned. She was desperate to know how she could stop her inevitable death.
"Klaus has been trying to break it for the last thousand years. You are his only hope," Elijah told her.
"What is this curse?" Elena's phone was really annoying Diana by now.
"Give her the phone 'Lijah it's annoying the hell out of me," Diana snapped.
"Your phone will not stop this incessant buzzing," Elijah complied.
Elena answered, "What? Ok, I'll be right there."
"You're not going anywhere," Elijah protested.
"Klaus went after my aunt Jenna. Please she's my family," Elena argued.
Elijah nodded, "I'll be back. I give you my word." she promised
"Your word is nothing to me unless you keep it."
Elena nodded in response but when she went to leave.
Diana grabbed her arm, "Tell Jenna I'm sorry I lied to her. " Elena nodded again before running off leaving the two vampires alone.
"You like her aunt but not her?" Elijah mused. Diana rolled her eyes in annoyance, she seemed to be doing that a lot that day, "Helen is an annoying whiny bitch. Jenna is more reserved and less bratty."
She turned to look at him and noticed his tie was dropping she fixed it and he glanced down at her. They fell into a comfortable silence. "Hey, you're old right. Can I ask you a question?" Diana spoke up.
"Ask away Bellissa."
"I had this dream. It was strange. I heard this voice telling me I have some great potential. When I woke up I was completely out of it. I almost killed Katherine."
Elijah's eyebrows furrowed, "I've never heard of anything like that but I'll search around and see if I could find anything."
"Thanks 'Lijah. Now let's talk about your hair."
◊◊◊◊◊◊◊
Elena eventually returned panting for breath, "Welcome back," Elijah greeted in surprise.
"Tell me. What's Klaus' curse? Elena stripped herself of her jacket and threw it carelessly.
"Please," Elijah gestured to the couch.
"My family was quite close, but Klaus and my father did not get on too well. When we became vampires we discovered the truth. Klaus was not my father's son. My mother had been unfaithful many years before. This was her darkest secret," Elijah explained.
"Klaus was from a different bloodline. Of course, when my father discovered this he hunted down and killed my mother's lover and his entire family," he told her, "Not realising of course, that he was igniting a war between species that still rages until this day."
"A war between the species," Elena enquired her head cocking to the side.
"The vampires," he stated, "And the werewolves."
"So Klaus' real father was from a werewolf bloodline? What does that make Klaus? A werewolf? Or a vampire?"
"God Elena. Buy a brain. He's both." Elena's eyes widened.
"A hybrid would be deadlier than any werewolf or vampire. Nature would not stand for such an imbalance of power. Therefore the witches, the servants of nature, saw to it that my brother's werewolf side would become dormant."
"All witches are a pain in the ass," Diana commented.
"That's the curse Klaus wants to break," Elena realised.
"He wants to trigger that part of him that's a werewolf. If allowed, Klaus would sire his own bloodline. He'd build his own race. Endangering not only just vampires but everyone," Elijah said.
"Yet you helped him!" Elena accused.
"Listen here doppelbitch. Don't blame Elijah for helping his brother. If your brother had a part of him locked away you would help him. So shut up," Elena closed her mouth.
"I helped him because I loved him," Elijah defended, "That's changed now he must die."
"Sure," Diana muttered under her breath.
"We have the dagger now we can stop him," Elena smiled thinking she had found a way out.
"When a werewolf is wounded by silver it heals. And original can't be killed by anything but the white oak ash on a silver dagger. So you see the conundrum the dagger does not work," Elijah reminded.
"What? Are you saying that Klaus can't be killed?"
"There's one way to kill any supernatural species... at the hands of the servants of nature themselves," Elijah told her. Diana having heard all this before was practically dozing off from boredom.
"A witch. If they can channel that much power." Elena sighed, "But it would kill them."
"The curse must be broken on a full moon. That's when he'll be at his most vulnerable. A witch with enough power... can kill Klaus."
"What if I told you that I knew a witch that could channel that much power," Elena wondered aloud.
"Then I would tell you there's one more thing you should know," Elijah then proceeded to tell her about the elixir he had made for Katherine.
"You found a way to save the doppelganger?" Elena inquired.
"Yes, Elena. I did. But unfortunately, Katerina took matters into her own hands first. I believe you already know how that played out."
"You cared for her didn't you?"
"It's a common mistake, I'm told. And it's one I won't male again," he confessed. He looked to Diana's sleeping form and sighed.
"Wait by the car I'll get Diana."
When Elena walked off Diana jumped, up having not been sleeping at all, startling him. "You're not going to be able to kill him."
Elijah looked down, "He threw my family in the sea."
"Please. Nik may not admit it but he loves you guys and he's trying to protect you," she related.
"It doesn't matter, Bellissa. He's going to die. Even if I may not be completely ok with it." She nodded in response as they walked out. They got into the car and drove in complete silence.
Diana dropped off Elena and Elijah at the boarding house deciding she wanted to have some time to think and feed.
